Best Japanese restaurant in the area. Amazing assortment in the menu and overall price/quality.

Horrible music. Bad bad value - tiny fatty tuna slice for 13 pounds.

I had food poisoning from eating sashimi here. Had dinner with two other people, they had cooked food, I had sashimi. Woke up with diarrhea and vomiting in the middle of night.

Food was ok, but not great when we tried it. Not sure why my previous rating disappeared.

We had lunch and had to wait for almost one hour to get our dishes. Seems our order was forgotten as people who arrived after us got their dishes before. We complained that it was taking too long but got no clear apologies or discount on the bill. It is a pity because the food is delicious. We have been coming here for many years but will not be returning.

Just bought my first takeaway sashimi from Maguro - whilst more expensive than somewhere like itsu so sooo much better and worth every penny - amazing...!

honestly worst sushi place, so overpriced & doesn't even taste remotely satisfactory.

Oh what have they done? This used to be such a great sushi restaurant. A real gem. Now, after an expansion into next door, things have gone so wrong. The refurb is shabby, where as the original was stylish. But it is the food that's truly suffered. What was once delicate and delicious has become clumsy and lacklustre. I can only assume they've also changed their chef, replacing them with someone cheaper who once made sushi boxes for Aldi. A huge loss. Maguro I miss you

Enjoyed a casual dinner at a time one might have expected the place to be busier. All the food was very good except for a sashimi salad which had been too-drenched in dressing that would have been better left 'on the side', not least as then the salad would have been crunchier as the menu had promised Slightly offputting was the near-constant traffic of staff between the restaurant half of the premises and the sushi/take-out half.

Not great experience. Very nice serving staff but very slow service with food arriving randomly . Bought us wrong dishes and were ungracious about changing them. All the sauces a bit sweet for my liking and extremely expensive for a dimly lit and fairly shabby cafe restaurant.

Omg! Like Omg! Seriosly! I was in many sushi houses in many countries and that is one of my best experience! Owner was absolutely amazing! Make sure we happy. It was sunday So they run out some things, he make sure we Will be happy with all swap he offer us. Also we was really fossy about few stuff what wasnt problem at all! One of places who easy You can comunicate in English... Not really comon in Sicily! We all love it! Worth Any penny!

Prima sushi! Maar niet de beste sushi die ik ooit heb gegeten. Restaurant is klein, er zijn maar weinig tafels! Daarnaast is de prijs ook aan de hoge kant.

Really disappointing- we used to be regulars pre-pandemic, first time back and it seems much has changed. Maybe they were having an off night but the tempura was soaked in oil, they did change it but the new dish came back the same, dripping. The rolls were fine but nothing blew us away like it used to. The atmosphere was different, I don’t know if it’s changed ownership but where we used to come out of this place buzzing, it was just flat and the staff just seemed so indifferent. The other thing that really ruined the atmosphere are all the delivery drivers who stand outside impatiently pressing the buzzer and looking through the window - the same window we and our friend were seated at. I did food deliveries during the pandemic and was always respectful of diners when in-dining came back - I always made sure the staff knew I was there then would wait discreetly… Maguro really need to have some system in place so the drivers don’t gang up around the entrances, it completely ruins the experience from the moment you arrive and have to push past the drivers to get into the restaurant! So disappointing and I’m not sure we’d come back to dine in.

Very nice meal - although some of the sauces were too sweet and plentiful. Excellent fish quality and some yummy and interesting choices you don't find elsewhere. The atmosphere is ok but more (dark) cafe than nice restaurant and service is quite slow. Worst thing is there is a constant stream of deliveroo drivers standing right outside the window/door with staff constantly taking out brown bags full of takeaways to them. As it's a small restaurant it's all hard to ignore. We enjoyed the food but it's not really what you would expect at around £75 a head.

Maguro Sushi has been in Lanark Place quite a few years and we actually went back goodness knows how many years after our first visit. Really bad because we actually live not a 5 minute walk away and always see the owner and say hello. We were very impressed as we were going to over order and were told we had ordered too much food. Thank goodness we didn’t order what we were going to. We just had a main course each which was beautifully cooked and plentiful. The staff are delightful and what we saw of the other dishes looked beautifully presented. Definitely a sit in or a take away for us. It was also very good value for money. They take cash or card.

Beautiful restaurant with great food and welcoming staff!

We used to come here all the time and then what with covid we had a big gap. I went a few months ago with my wife and it was not as good, but rather than write it off we decided to go again, and so went for dinner last night. The food is "so so": lots of delivery drivers wait around outside with mopeds shining their headlights through the window whilst they await takeaway orders from the counter next door. It's much less pleasant than it used to be, but probably more profitable. The restaurant owner is a miserable guy: ultra low customer service skills, grumpy. The setting was a bit bright, too many lights, not at all intimate. The food was mostly okay but the tempura had a Nasty aftertaste like the oil was old or dirty. Time to raise your game guys. This used to be a fabulous neighbourhood Japanese restaurant. It's just a takeaway these days that puts up with walk in diners. Not cool at all.

Completely overpriced considering food quality and portion size.

I had dinner there on the 13th of November. Sunday is not the best day for sushi, but i wasn't expecting this: The Negi Toro Maki poisoned me: I spent the following three days with severe diarrhoea. Crabmeat Tartar and Nasu Dengaku weren't bad, I'd have given this place 4-star despite it not being japanese, but being food poisoned in such a place is, honestly, sad. Try to avoid this place.

The service fluctuates but I like their lunch set.

The best place to go for sushi, good price and delicious food. I've been here many times and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Must try the prawn tempura roll, the dragon roll and the calamari.

We had the salmon tartar. the sashimi tray, the crispy duck rolls, the rock and roll, totoro nigiri and it was all so delicious! Dinner for 2 with a small bottle of sake £112 service included. We will be back.

Delicious! Say inside with a group (12). Everyone very content and happy with the flavours and service. Beef teriyaki, sashimi, Korean fried chicken and Katy’s chicken were favourites. Helpful staff too. Busy, so make a reservation if you can. Definitely recommend, try to sit outside ;-)

Excellent Sashimi and very good service.

Really impressed.- We came here with friends for dinner as we are big fans of Japanese Food. Everything was 5* from the smart high-end décor and dark wood Asian-style interior to the friendly and attentive service and of course the delicious super-fresh dishes - I'd highly recommend their amazing chicken yakitori skewers and the mixed tempura (so light and tasty). Highly recommended - definitely coming back very soon. 10/10

Very good food, but horrible and loud music, we could barely listen to each others, and when we kindly asked the floor manager she said that she couldn’t do much about it because of the strict instructions by the owner… Don’t think I will come back again guys 😕

Came here in the afternoon and wanted to take the seat by the window but was told the it’s reserved. When I left, I did not see anyone came. I have also reserved a table in advance and was hoping to get nicer seating. The staff service wasn’t to the service I expected. Drinks were slow and wasn’t as friendly as I would want. The set was average, some nice fresh seafood, but the sashimi set I found the maki roll wasn’t done nicely. Felt it a bit broken apart. Overall I think it’s nice restaurant but service and quality of the sushi could be improved.

Lunch menu is really good value

Fuimos a cenar con mis hijos y nos encantó. Nos gusta la comida japonesa y tanto la elaboración como los productos de 1a calidad son excelentes. El personal estuvo muy atento a nuestras peticiones, la única queja fue que la música era demasiado alta, lo demás todo bien.

Maguro is a great local Japanese restaurant 🇯🇵, tucked away in a little side street in Maida Vale. I’ve eaten a couple of times at Maguro 🍽 and over the past one or two years also collected quite a few take-aways 🍱. The food is always very tasty 😋 , I particularly like the seasonal Chicken Katsu Summer Roll - it’s the perfect light dish to take into a park on a nice warm evening 🌇. Even though they specialise in sushi and I don’t eat fish, I always find something delicious on their menu 👍.

This is one of the hidden places in London. Food quality is great and place neat, clean and quiet. Don't miss the crispy dumplings 😋 a place away from tourists overrated places.

Had the beef noodles which were great, very tender and flavoursome. The owner is a wonderful man super generous gave my daughter complimentary ice cream. Can’t wait to go back

I have always liked Maguro but ordered a rather expensive meal via Deliveroo. The sushi was not fresh and the meal was substandard. Very disappointed. I really want my money back.. feel very cheated.

Avoid this place. Word of warning: avoid sushi places NOT run by Japanese. This place was not good. Food mediocre and portions skimpy. And price exorbitant. Their online menu has since doubled. 2 adults 2 kids, eating sparingly and bill was 190 pounds. Absurd. Plus they fold in an extra 20% for server. Will NEVER go back. Feel taken advantage of.

Last visit was TERRIBLE. Not fresh and almost inedible from the foul fish smell. We are regulars but not sure we will return after this.

Love Maguro! Great for dining in or delivery. Lunch menu particularly good value. The sushi bento box is my favourite.

I came here to pick up an order and for 15 minutes they are not checking my order and after that they telling me it’s going to be ready in 5 minutes but I waited more than 1 hour. Not happy at all😖😖😔😔

Tremendous sushi and sashimi. Duck roll, prawn tempura, Rainbow and California roll were spectacular, teriyaki chicken and beef yaki were fine, everything well presented and flavoursome. Nice woody ambience in repurposed pub. Excellent service. Would definitely go again or order takeaway.

Really nice food but terrible service. Extremely slow and then when we tried to order dessert at 21:30 we were told the kitchen was shut so we couldn’t. Normal etiquette would be to tell us beforehand and ask if we wanted to order anything else - I’m sure the owner wouldn’t like to hear the restaurant is losing out on revenue due to such poor standards. Besides this, staff didn’t care how our meal was, brought everything in the wrong order and could barely utter the words bye or thanks when we left - basically looked like they hated being there. Told the manager at the end and instead of offering us something to come back like a free dessert next time, he just seemed to be angry with the staff next door, but in truth he could have found a moment during our 2 hours there to ask how our meal was going, so he was just as much to blame. A real shame and won’t be returning.

My taste buds are 'ageing' as I am getting older (although I have not reached the point to like wine yet) and I started liking Oriental cuisine, whether is Japanese or Chinese etc, no wonder with so many Chinese restaurants closing in central London, I decided to place an order with this restaurant located in this tiny street that you could easily miss, not far from a busy pub and other eateries. I was really missing dim sum and the lovely Japanese girl advised me to go for Steamed Hand Made shuma which has a spicy kick and comes with 5 pieces, beautifully packed in this gorgeous box. I noticed there was another guy waiting for his Deliveroo order to take as the tiny restaurant was empty inside and I placed my order returning some 15min later to collect it when I also made the payment. This is great as in the future I will place the order on the phone and collect it when I will be in the area. Cannot wait to return and get more items - the staff was very nice and friendly although it was my first order!

Staff unfriendly and hardely spoke English. The service was very bad. The quality of the food has gone down. I informed the owner and he did not care. I had to wait 50 min for takeway. Truly appauling experience.

Love to have picnic with Maguro lunch box. Nice composition, taste good. Salmon in the salmon&avo roll was so huge.

Ordered from Deliveroo after having seen Maguro on my walks near Little Venice. The special rolls were so fantastic that I'm going to order again order next day so my parents can try it. Can't wait for lock-down to fully end so we can try dining at the restaurant.

Hey! I've ordered takeaway for lunch and dinner several times and each time the food and service was consistently excellent. I tend to order the chirashi don just due to ease for lunch. Everything I've tried has been really fresh, conveniently packaged with fresh wasabi (not packets, thank goodness!) and the staff have always been really friendly. Highly recommend!

The food was really mediocre, i have had better sushi from tesco, there was just no flavour and everything seemed to be old and soggy

Fantastic food and service and adequately priced restaurant. Lovely to eat in at and good for take-away too. Favourites are their spider roll, salmon and tuna sashimi and rock tempura.

Even during these difficult times, this little gem in Little Venice / Clifton Gardens / Warwick Avenue Japanese restaurant tries its best. So, I am glad they are still ope for takeout and deliveries. I wore a mask and walked there this afternoon, and took home the usual - 2 Maguro Bento boxes for £39. Beautiful quality, except this time the tempura batter is too thick. I do understand they may not have their usual chef. It doesn't matter though because we love the meal. Some wine and a nice atmosphere - HOME!!! No tip. What more do we want from life? Adapt ot die.

Stellar sushi in a good location. A cozy atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff, with quick service and high quality sushi. The food is pricey, so be wary on a student budget and I recommend for special occasions.

Good quality & cozy neighborhood sushi restaurant. Loved the Vegetable gyoza, miso soup, and spicy edamame as the no-brainer starters. Yellow tail nigiri and dragon roll was fresh and deli. I was not impressed with the tuna tartar.
