A superb location, excellent food and lovely staff. The tea room is close to the Thames, the Runnymede memorials, the Jurors, Writ in Water and now the dramatic Last Survivors by Willow Twisters. Sandwiches are fresh, tasty and with excellent gluten-free options. Manager Andy is a vivacious and committed recycler who makes time for his clients and who is a fabulous advertisement for the National Trust. Eat inside or outside: this tea room, its manager and its staff are first class.

We visited here following a walk alongside the river. On one side of the cafe, is a busy main road which runs from Egham to Windsor, but on the other side you’re surrounded by the perfect setting for nature walks through the National Trust grounds. I was expecting more of an ‘afternoon tea’ feel for these tea rooms, although it felt more like a standard, small cafe. The food was average and quite expensive, having had a fruit scone which was very hard left us slightly disappointed. The Victoria sponge, on the other hand, was huge and very tasty. The tea was served in individual small teapots, which was nice. It was relatively clean. Inside there is also a bookshelf which is a nice touch. Overall, a good pit stop during a hike, cycle or if you’re just passing through.

Awful will not be returning very slow service we took into consideration they were busy but felt ignored and they forgot one of our drinks also felt like we were being rushed out as they told us they were closing but they still had 30minutes which was rather rude kept hearing one particular older guy shouting out the kitchen which really ruined the atmosphere of our lunch staff all young and rude

I don’t often write reviews, but absolutely had to, following our brief lunch in the tea room today. We popped here for food and a leg stretch, to break up our 4 hour journey. We’re so pleased we chose this over a loud and busy service station. The staff immediately made us feel welcome, and took charge of the experience with warmth and confidence. Nothing was too much trouble - it’s been a long time since we’ve experienced genuinely exceptional service. We will definitely pop back again!

Very little choice to eat . A few sandwiches mostly cheese toastes in the fridge or pasty type things . No salads or healthy sandwiches or salads . The manager ( I think Was busy being rude about a member of the public that. They can’t read . The toilets were dirty . No sun umbrellas up outside . Waited for a while to be served whilst the staff looked busy . We would have gone somewhere else if we knew the area . Avoid “

We have visited the tearooms for a bite to eat which has always been very nice. The staff are always friendly, but on this occasion we were served by a older man he was polite but his appearance was not very professional to tell you the truth he looked like he had come out in his pyjamas black scruffy shorts and a scruffy grey tshirt not what I would have expected of the national trust.

This our local National trust site and it has now lost t's way and soul. No longer is there a range of lovely home made cakes - everything is prepackaged or premade run of the mill and the scones aren't even made fresh on site. Be aware unless you tell them not to they will microwave the scones which ruins the texture. So disappointed as used to love coming here, but now it is no better than an average tea room. National Trust sites are renowned for freshly on site made cakes and savories, but this one has lost that and thus the heart of what makes a National Trust tea room. There is no longer the selection of NT goods such as biscuits and fudge to buy - just some sad looking pencils and pads. Looks like we will now be heading to Osterly Park instead for cream teas and better cafe.

I helped lead a group of 117 students and adults in January. The Magna Carta Tea Room was just what we needed after our journey from the USA to Runnymede. Weird for fifteen minutes to get a Magna Carta trail pack for my two daughters. Only 50p each so thought it was a bargain, shame that the pencils provided were all broken and rather than complain I thought it best left as by the time is been served the queue was out of the door. What really got my goat is that the girl serving was clearly new and had to seek guidance every time she had a customer. It's not her that upset me so but the fact that the girl who new all the answers was in the kitchen area cleaning down.Prioritisation is key - if it's busy then serve and clean down when quiet. By making people wait and walk away disgruntled you have lost money and have a review such as this. You need a little guidance with reference to time and task management is all but I would suggest that this should already be in place in particular over a very busy bank holiday weekend.

Stopped for coffee at these Tea Rooms this morning. Lovely coffee and great freshly made cheese scones - gorgeous. But there was only one person serving and doing so very slowly. It was 10.30am and several people in the growing queue at the counter were becoming anxious about time as they were getting the boat trip to Windsor. Surely that must be one of the peak times for this café at the height of summer? Why have so few staff? Advice would be not to stop here if you're in a hurry!!! Have to say that however nice the food (and it is also reasonably priced) it is served with a generous portion of DISINTEREST. And the tables were certainly not either cleared or cleaned quickly!! I think at a venue which must be visited by people from all over the world the National Trust (to which I belong) should be doing much better than this!!!

This is a cafe/tearoom on the National Trust run Runnymede Magna Carta site. It has parking which is free for National Trust members. The cafe however is a little disappointing which is sad because it has great potential. The staff were all very young and were unable to offer any advice on the surrounding attraction. There was a limited selection of refreshments and to top it all the card machine did not work so even during the short time I was there they lost loads of potential revenue. Such a shame for what could be a really thriving little place with a little work and imagination.

After seeing the monument, and tramping across the muddy field with a push chair and toddler, we were relieved to find that the tea room was open. On a previous visit they had sold out of scones, but December is not as busy a month, and so we were hopeful! We were disappointed. Instead of any welcome, we were regaled with the fact that they were closing. I looked at my watch and as there was twenty minutes to go, asked could we have tea please, so tea for 4 it was - served in takeaway cups!!! There would have been time for us to eat cake, or scones but there were none to be seen on display, though i did notice a couple of other people eating them on a nearby table. I suppose they could have been the last ones sold, but , from the demeanour of the staff, I feel the cakes had probably been packed away well in advance of closing time… I was also surprised, ( given the closing time was well displayed on the door) that the door was physically locked a minute before the stated closing time, to deter other people wandering in.Where do the National trust find such people?!!! , The door was unlocked to let us out, and no we were not the last ones to leave, and no, we will not be going again!

Went especially for Cream Tea on the recommendations of friends but what a disappointment... the scones were dry and crumbly, clotted cream came in a prepacked pottle that looked dry and tasteless. The jam however, was very good. Hubby had sausage roll and coffee, these were fine. Hope the scones and cream will be fresher if you decide to go - it is the only place near the Magna Carta and Kennedy memorial.

A couple of years back this was a great place for a Sunday morning breakfast. Since my last visit the national trust has taken it over. The pluses - nicely decorated, selection of items relating to the loc toon to purchase. However the food let it down badly. I ordered two bacon I sandwiches, a sausage roll and two lattes. I received A bacon sandwich in the worse bread I've ever tasted (tastes like inflated Kleenex), the bacon was acceptable but it was generally not enjoyable. The coffee tasted as if it was out of a machine and it wasn't even a full cup. The sausage roll was slightly overlooked. The bill as £13.55. I won't be returning which is a shame as this was such a nice destination in a lovely spot.

I had the macaroni cheese and it is one of the best I have ever tasted. Nice little cafe in a good location near the various memorials

Not a good experience. How wrong can you get two bacon sandwiches to go? Very slow service. Poorly trained till staff. Soggy, bacon. Nice bread though.

A lovely tea rooms serving all manner of food and drinks. Albeit a bit pricey, the food is excellent. Very lovely staff on hand and they even have a rewards card. Is good to do my bit for the National Trust.

Have visited this establishment twice in the last month. The Magna Carta Restaurant is situated by the river at Runnymede , very near the Kennedy Memorial and RAF Memorial. I believe it is a listed building and is owned by the National Trust.. As started before in another review, the choices were limited for sandwiches at lunch time when we visited, but they were good. When we had an afternoon cream tea it was delicious and the scones were huge and freshly baked. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Charming cafe; we will return.

Visited on a Sunday with our daughter & son-in law as we didn't want a big lunch in a pub. Choices were limited but three of us had jacket potatoes with different fillings, Nicely presented with coleslaw on side. Husband had a cheese board. Friendly staff. Not too long a wait for service. Café nicely situated for a scenic walk by the river before or after eating.

Called in at the tearoom after visiting the Kennedy Memorial and the RAF Memorial, arriving at 1.15. The staff were very pleasant but seemed totally overwhelmed by demand. We had what appeared to be the last of the sandwiches, which were just about ok but the cakes were very poor. The coffee walnut cake was tasteless and dry, and the rhubarb traybake was just plain awful. Dry texture and the rhubarb was hard and dry. Maybe we were just unlucky as it was a lovely day and they were very busy, but another time I'd take a picnic.

Popped into the Magna Carta Tearoom for a quick cup of coffee on a Sunday morning in February. There was something completely soulless about it - perhaps it was there only being one other customer but there was nothing that would make me want to come again. The Latte was Ok but next time I'll take a thermos...

We went there for a cup of coffee and cake, the place is ok. The cake are very good however is too small and very hot (heating on during summer time!) the staff is quite slow what isn't helpful specially when you have a little one, also is small and when is full is really noisy and annoying place!

We were booked for Josie's 14th birthday in April 2023. What a LOVELY venue. Easy to find in the centre of Chertsey, access was really easy from the rear of the premises, helped by the lift (so really helpful for disabled users) The interior was clean with optimum facilities and hospitality equipment and all had a great time. We would so recommend this location to anyone looking to have their party and function in the Runnymede Area. 11 out of 10 for a wonderful experience

Excellent service, quality products. While visiting family and staying in a nearby hotel, this place was our morning breakfast and coffee. The friendly staff worked quickly to keep lines to a minimum, as many locals dropped in for a coffee to go. There is comfortable seating inside and outside, and the staff didn’t rush anyone away. I was there many times in a few days.

Nice little place to have some food and let the kid's play in the toy/ball pit section, reasonably priced and friendly staff...
