Madras Cafe in Glasgow City

Sorry it’s taken so long to post this review as I thought I had but hadn’t! If you want a delicious meal with great service and ambience the you must go here!! 3 of us booked on a Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 and we were running a wee bit late but that was not a problem . The two young lads that served us were great, advising us on some things to help us choose. We had 3 pints of Kingfisher ( as you do) then poppadoms and chutneys which were fantastic. Starters were 1 x prawn and 2 x chicken dishes, ( we all had a taste of everything) absolutely delish and the accompanying sauces were great. Mains, 1 x Goan prawn dish, 1 x Monkfish dish and 1 x chicken dish with rice, nan etc. again, fantastic! We all agreed that it was probably the best Indian meal we had ever had. We even got to meet the chef/ owner who was lovely. We tried to book for last week but they were on holiday, but we will be back soon!!

What a wonderful place for dinner! The Lamb Amritsari was incredible and the staff are warm and attentive making it the perfect place for a date night, especially if you’re foodies!

Madras Cafe is a fantastic choice for dinner - food is delicious, atmosphere is lovely and the staff are attentive and professional. The menu is reasonably priced and the choices are wide ranging with mild to spicy options for anyone's pallate. 10/10 would recommend!

Amazing spot! Food was amazing, & staff were soo lovely and helpful. We celebrated my brothers birthday and everyone started singing. Just a brilliant atmosphere overall, will be back!

The food was enjoyable overall! The dosa was absolutely delightful, perfectly crispy and full of flavor. The malai kofta, though, leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. Service was decent—not exceptional, but it didn’t take away from the experience. All in all, we had a lovely time and left with happy memories!

Was a short distance from our hotel and really glad we went. Easy to book online, great food and lovely atmosphere & staff.

Visited on a busy Saturday evening. They fit us in no problem. Staff are all very friendly and attentive without being too intrusive. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Would visit again and definitely recommend to others.

One of the worst experience ordered food and food came fully spilled the whole curry was spilled and I spent nearly £19..my question is if your food is spilled in the plastic bag will you eat it..ordered through uber eats and no proper response either from the restaurant or from Uber support.worst experience..this is how they do business .And I couldn’t eat and the rice was tasted worse.

Delicious food! Ordered food for our office Christmas party and was not disappointed. The team helped me place the order and made sure everything was ready exactly when they said it would be! So many people in the office commented on how delicious the food was.....colleagues have made me promise to get our catering from Madras Cafe for all of our future parties!!

If this is South Indian traditional and authentic cuisine then my grandad is Elon Musk. It might be called a cafe but it certainly does not have cafe prices. The food is distinctly below average. It's not even real Punjabi cuisine which would have made a difference. Where was the heavy use of coconut and green chillies or curry leaves? I do not recommend.

Great friendly service and fabulous food. Four of us had separate mains and every one was delicious. A definite step up from your usual local curry house. Cannae this being a pre gig regular when we come to Glasgow for gigs.

Food was good, sophisticated from the authentic simplicity of south indian dosa and idli.

I literally cannot stop thinking about the honey mango lassi - it was totally the best lassi I've ever had. Food was phenominal, we got the tandoori roti, south central combo, palak paneer, and saffron basmati rice. Between the two of us, this amount was perfect (all vegetarian). I could not recommend this place more! Also its closeness to the train station was perfect for us. We went for lunch and the whole experience (atmosphere, service, food/drink) was perfect.

Nice atmospheric south Indian restaurant. Had a good and reasonably priced Masala Dosa and a paneer masala that was less spicy and creamy than usual - but was absolutely delicious. I also had a honey-mango lassi that I also found less creamy than usual - unsure if this is a South Indian type - but was anyway sweet and fresh.

2 visits this week, both excellent. The dosas were amazing so thin and crispy . Also the starters and a lovely mixed veg curry. Couldn't fault it.

Delicious palak paneer and fresh desi salad. The naan was perfect. Mango lassi was fresh and not too sweet. We loved every bite and the service was great as well. Highly recommend this place for a delicious dinner in Glasgow.

Easy booking online, welcoming and friendly staff who are not constantly hanging over you and rushing you through the courses. We were mistakenly given Chicken pakoda instead of veg, we said we were happy with the chicken pakoda. however, the waiter came over about 5mins later with veg pakoda 'on the house' and apologised. Our starters were good portions & and delicious. Our mains were lamb and veg dishes with side of rice and nann, which again were plentiful, tasty and delishious. We had Kingfisher beer with our meal. The restaurant is just a nice size, not overly crowded with a lovely atmosphere. Would definately recommend and will return. Well done Madras Cafe and Thank you.

Absolutely amazing food and service . Probably the best indisk meal I ve had outside India. I had the Punjab samosas and the Masala Dosa. It tastes so original, fresh and spicy, like being in Indian heaven. Thank you Madras café , for making my Day Iben from Denmark

A little walk away from the main part of town - but worth the visit for authentic food. Good TripAdvisor reviews were warranted. Got busy very quickly in the evening with many locals (and tourists). Very generous servings. We chose a range of dishes. Cafe seemed pleased to accommodate diners that wanted different types of taste and levels of spice. Surprisingly extensive wine list, beer and soft drink options. Service was very good with senior waiter checking everyone regularly and making sure all diners were happy. He made good recommendations too. Even a personal smile and ‘thank you’ while holding the door open for every diner as they left. Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped by without reservation when staying in nearby hotel. Food was authentic and delicious. Service excellent and good central location. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend.

Fantastic curry here! Tried a few different Indian places while in Glasgow and this was our favourite. Had the malai kofta, butter paneer, lamb punjabi and monkfish and each dish was delicious. Great options for vegetarians.

I am giving one star only for Masala Dosa it was very small size with spicy potato sabzi and pathetic sambar . I felt 12 pound for such dish was not worth. Very less vegetarian starter option .

OVERVIEW The food was just OK, I ordered the daal and some starters! PLUS + The daal was noteworthy at a 4* level; it was hearty, and you could distinctly taste the freshness of the ginger, coriander, and chilli with every bite. + Accommodate meal alterations. + Reasonably priced. + The young server went out of his way to be hospitable and chivalrous. + Walk-in dinner time availability. MINUS - Overall, the starters were just OK, at a 3* level. The “sea bass amritsari” was described as “subtle” in flavour; unexpectedly, all other starters followed suit, as all starters were just subtly spiced and not bursting with exotic flavours as you would expect from an Indian restaurant. Contrary, the side sauces and beetroot salad that accompanied the starters were flavourful and lived up to expectations. - The “tandoori roti” was dry. - The “Frankie roll” paneer was overpoweringly sweet. - The restaurant could benefit from a renovation to match its famous reputation. - The restaurant could benefit from a quick, hassle-free table QR code payment method, i.e., the "Sunday" payments app. ORDERS Starters: * Tandoori Roti * Frankie Roll (Paneer) * Sea Bass Amritsari Main: * Daal Tadka

Loved Madras House… I can’t decide which is best- the food or the service! We ordered a sampler platter (chicken wings are amazing) beet salad, garlic naan and the sea bass special. Xlent veg options. Madras cafe takes care and time with their cuisine- and it shows. The staff were all lovely and they work together so well. Pls open a restaurant in seattle! :)

Very good food and service. Authentic Indian food is ordered coconut prawns and its very flavorful and tasty.

We booked the Madras cafe for lunch on Saturday and had their lunchtime special. The menu didn’t look extensive and I was tempted by the al a carte, but thought there was something that appealed to us all so gave it a whirl. We had the chicken pakoda, aloo tikki and chicken 65. All plates were cleared. The food tastes fresh and delicious. For mains we had lamb dansak, mysore lamb and my favourite the street food pancake. The staff advised on what side would be needed and were right. The staff were friendly let us have a catch up before coming to take our order and happily advised on the menu. The service was top notch and I couldn’t believe the place wasn’t packed. Excellent food, great service and a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

First Indian restaurant which was better

Vegetarian foods are excellent. Beware while ordering non-veg items, it may contain human fluids, because they are giving halal items. Even though the restaurant owners are innocent, Double check about it.

Absolutely fantastic food! While visiting Glasgow was recommended here by a friend and was so happy I went! Had the lamb chops to start and lamb Rogan josh for the main! Both were so tasty and delicious! The lb Rogan josh was so tender it was unreal! Fresh garlic and coriander naan was also to die for! Will be back whenever I return to Glasgow!

We visited without booking and the team was more than happy to seat the 3 of us, even though the restaurant was busy. All of the starters and mains we ordered, were flavoursome and delicious. The portion sizes and prices were spot on too. Hands down the best "traditional" Indian we've eaten at and we'll definitely visit again the next time we're in Glasgow.

Visited the MC on Thursday 25 July for lunch with two chums and it was delicious. The food was great. It was fresh and tasty and not full of oil. It was very tasty and fresh. The service was polite, helpful and speedy. A wholesome recommendation from me - and the price for three (£75) was very decent value. Thank you.

Went to Madras cafe to celebrate our anniversary. The service was excellent and received a lovely welcome back. We choose the pre-theatre menu had great 2 courses for £16.95 which included sides. Food was amazing from start to finish including the service, look forward to our next visit.

Do not let the outside surroundings put you off from seeking out this absolute gem of a restaurant The interior is a bit utilitarian however there is a nice buzzy feeling to the place evenat a relatively early evening booking THe menu is interesting and offers a lot of choices The service is very good and the recommendations from our waiter completely hit the mark The starters were excellent as were teh mains. I had a chicken dish and my wife went for the dhosa, which she loved THe food was exceptionally good and it has to rate as one of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten in

Nice place to go for Indian food. Big menu with something that fits everyone. Food was good, no complaints. Service wasn't the most effective but they were very nice and helpful.

The best Indian restaurant in Glasgow I know!

A small, quiet restaurant located near the center. The staff are wonderful and the food is delicious.

Up from Manchester and was recommended this restaurant by a local colleague. First of all service is very good. Ordered lamb chop starter which were amazing but also gave us Chicken 65 on the house to try, again very very good. Onion chutney with the poppadoms was really nice and different. Mains we had Madras and South Indian chicken, really tasty, fresh and beautiful. My only criticism is that the madras is down as "Not for the faint-hearted" which made me think it was very hot, it isn't spicy but that's a personal preference, still very nice. Will be coming back 100%. Thank you.

I visited here with a group of friends and we all thought that the food was excellent. The lamb rogan josh that I had was very tasty and the lamb was tender and it had a decent level of spice. The kingfish starter was spicy and flavourful too. Service was quick and efficient and we got a complimentary round of lemoncello after paying the bill. The place was very busy on a Saturday night - booking essential.

Came here for a pre theatre menu meal, was absolutely stunning, beer on draft was kingfisher and it went lovely with the curry, staff were absolutely unreal and so friendly, would highly recommend.

Really excellent food, best to book and well worth it

My party of 5 adults had a lovely dinner tonight. We cleaned all the plates with the naan and roti, getting every drop of the sauces. We shared plates family style. Everything was so delicious and having dosa was such a treat. The server warned us the tandoori sea bass would take longer to cook, but that worked out perfectly as we had served some other other dishes already and could make room for this last plate. The service was also great, very attentive and kept our water glasses filled. We are just visiting Glasgow, but would definitely make this a regular rotation if we lived close by. I highly recommend this restaurant. We found the restaurant through Google as it was closer to our location. I tried to get a table through Open Table, but reservations were only available for an hour later. I called the restaurant instead and they confirmed a table was available and they would hold it for us for the 15 minutes it would take for us to get there. The restaurant was busy on a Sunday night, so we were glad to have that assurance.

This is a warm spirited and delicious restaurant. They made a spot for us on a rainy evening when they were quite busy. We had the masala dohsa and palak paint and both were very good. Great value and lovely spot to spend some time.

Five stars are not enough, this is hands down the best Indian cuisine I’ve ever tasted, my entire party agreed. The Dutch couple sitting behind us finished their meal and immediately made a reservation for the next day. If you’re in Glasgow don’t miss it!

My husband and I went for dinner with another couple while vacationing here in Glasgow. We had a delicious dinner served by a helpful friendly waiter. The menu is extensive and I wish I could come back multiple times to try more of their offerings. Highly recommended.

Fabulous curry with delightful, fresh flavours and an interesting selection of dishes. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive - absolutely loved our meal there! The nicest naan bread we’ve had in years.

The restaurant is tucked behind a shopping centre, looks non-assuming, but was brilliant! We went there without booking a table on a friday evening and were offered a table by the window, although we were only two. What lovely and welcoming staff!! Great laid-back atmosphere, mixed clientel, families, tourists, single persons and couples. We ordered two vegetarian dishes, rice and naan, soft drinks, they used a variety of vegetable, it was delicious! the spice level good without being overwhelming. Good value for money, highly recommended!

An unpretentious looking restaurant but served excellent food. As vegetarians we were very pleased with the choices on the menu and both our choices were very good indeed. The service was also very good - attentive without being intrusive.

We have been to Glasgow many times and are usually creatures of habit so wanted a change. We looked for a good Indian Restaurant on line and came across Madras Cafe which had good reviews. My wife and I have to say that the service was great, staff friendly and the food was exceptional. Definitely recommend and we will be back.

First time visiting this Indian restaurant, won’t be the last! Delicious food, served in nice surroundings. Lovely welcome from our waiter Shihab who took his time helping my husband when he was trying to describe a dish he thought was on the lunch menu (he’d forgotten the name!) We look forward to a return visit…I can see this is going to be our go-to lunch venue every time we’re in town!
