Madras Cafe in Glasgow City

We had the chicken tikka and chicken 65 starters, followed by the chicken tikka dosa and lamb punjabi The food and service was excellent, we just turned up and were lucky we picked a great time to come. We arrived at 6.45pm and by 8.30pm it was full mobbed. Great place and highly recommend!

Delicious food and excellent service. A comfortable place to visit when dining alone. The naan bread was delicious and big enough to enjoy alone with the garlic chilli chicken. Free ice cream as well if you fancy it!

Took a chance after walking past in the morning and returned later that day. Ordered from the pre-theatre menu and couldn’t fault the food. Really enjoyed it will need to come back and try the main menu.

Best dosa I've had in ages! I'm visiting currently from Chicago. I had dosa in many major European cities, and obviously back in the states. This is a top notched restaurant. Exquisite flavor/quality of dosa, sambar, and chutney. I had the Mysore Masala Dosa. The music is very tantalizing and pairs extremely well with the ambiance here, including the giant artwork throughout the restaurant depicting places in Kerela, India. Speaking of Kerela, the head chef is originally from Kerela so you can trust that you are eating Indian food freshly straight from the motherland! 5 out 5 stars. Another bonus, I was seated right away and received my dosa and beverage in under 5 minutes. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed!!!

We went there at the end of the day for dinner. We had - masala dosa - idli sambar One of the dosa was under cooked and the idli was hard. The restaurant as a whole isn't bad, but I have had better.

Usual lovely meal. Hot and delicious. Flexible menu options and great value for money. Can't fault. Wish I could go every weekend.

Nice little indian cafe, we ordered masala dosa which we enjoyed whole heartedly. The aloo tikki though could have more yoghurt/curd with it, being desi’s it was bit weird to eat them dry, but otherwise highly recommended

Our first visit and some of the best food we've had. The Monkfish Keralan was definitely the best fish dish I've had. My wife's Goan tiger prawns was equally good. Service was spot on, either very little wait time and the staff were first rate.

All my friends love this place. They say the best and authenticity Indian experience they ever had. Honestly the service is so homely and one of the wonderful place in Glasgow that sticks to the tagline "People make Glasgow".. The manager Shihab is friendly and always on top of his game.

Lovely food and always good service

The service was great, friendly staff who were more than happy to offer ideas and suggestions for dishes. All the food was very tasty, even the starters! Only slight (very slight) annoyances was that the rice and bread sides were all quite small (they did warn us of this but it still felt a wee bit small for the price). Get three between two people etc. And whilst my curry was exquisite the chicken was not as tender as it could have been; not quite tough but slightly overcooked. Would definitely come back.

This is the best Indian restaurant in the city - the flavours are phenomenal and every dish sings with depth and spice that only a true artist can deliver. The Frankie roll is one of best surprises I’ve had as a starter for a long time, and the butter chicken is the most authentic I’ve had in this country. The staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you and the atmosphere is fantastic. Well done 👏

Superb food, wine and service. We had the valentines special menu which was great value for money and included everything we wanted from the main menu. The lamb chop started was excellent, perfectly cooked tender lamb chops with very tasty sauces. I had the Goan tiger prawn mains which was creamy and spicy and the naan was very good too.

Absolutely beautiful food and service. Friendly helpful staff. Would definitely recommend. My daughter said it was the best Korma she has ever had. Everything was lovely and plenty of it. Would come back again for sure.

Such a beautiful evening! We came for our anniversary which we did not remember until our starter came. We ordered the Masala dosa, lamb bhuna, and the paneer Frankie roll. Frankie roll was delicious and crispy and the sauce was sweet and spicy. The bhuna was lovely and flavourful and had a good/low level of spice. The lamb was very tender and cooked well. My partner is vegetarian and had the masala dosa. He said “the dips and curry were very nice , it was a hearty portion, delicious and tasty and flavourful, pancake very crispy”. Servers and staff are also so lovely! They offered us a glass of Bailey’s at the end of the night. We’ll definitely be back!

Heard a lot about this place, and this is why decided to try this restaurant for an early dinner. I have lived in south India for 6 years and IMHO this is not an authentic South Indian restaurant. £16 for 2 pcs idli (most densed idli I have ever seen) and 2 pcs vada with that sambar (?) and coconut chutney which lacked seasoning like everything else. sambar tasted a bit like potato curry, not at all like sambar. I wouldn’t mind paying this much for a starter if it tastes good. The only good thing was handi chicken, which is why two stars and don’t get me started on that so called Masala chai. Overall absolutely disappointing experience, not worth it and won’t recommend it to anyone.

Sorry it’s taken so long to post this review as I thought I had but hadn’t! If you want a delicious meal with great service and ambience the you must go here!! 3 of us booked on a Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 and we were running a wee bit late but that was not a problem . The two young lads that served us were great, advising us on some things to help us choose. We had 3 pints of Kingfisher ( as you do) then poppadoms and chutneys which were fantastic. Starters were 1 x prawn and 2 x chicken dishes, ( we all had a taste of everything) absolutely delish and the accompanying sauces were great. Mains, 1 x Goan prawn dish, 1 x Monkfish dish and 1 x chicken dish with rice, nan etc. again, fantastic! We all agreed that it was probably the best Indian meal we had ever had. We even got to meet the chef/ owner who was lovely. We tried to book for last week but they were on holiday, but we will be back soon!!

What a wonderful place for dinner! The Lamb Amritsari was incredible and the staff are warm and attentive making it the perfect place for a date night, especially if you’re foodies!

Madras Cafe is a fantastic choice for dinner - food is delicious, atmosphere is lovely and the staff are attentive and professional. The menu is reasonably priced and the choices are wide ranging with mild to spicy options for anyone's pallate. 10/10 would recommend!

The food was enjoyable overall! The dosa was absolutely delightful, perfectly crispy and full of flavor. The malai kofta, though, leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. Service was decent—not exceptional, but it didn’t take away from the experience. All in all, we had a lovely time and left with happy memories!

One of the worst experience ordered food and food came fully spilled the whole curry was spilled and I spent nearly £19..my question is if your food is spilled in the plastic bag will you eat it..ordered through uber eats and no proper response either from the restaurant or from Uber support.worst experience..this is how they do business .And I couldn’t eat and the rice was tasted worse.

Delicious food! Ordered food for our office Christmas party and was not disappointed. The team helped me place the order and made sure everything was ready exactly when they said it would be! So many people in the office commented on how delicious the food was.....colleagues have made me promise to get our catering from Madras Cafe for all of our future parties!!

If this is South Indian traditional and authentic cuisine then my grandad is Elon Musk. It might be called a cafe but it certainly does not have cafe prices. The food is distinctly below average. It's not even real Punjabi cuisine which would have made a difference. Where was the heavy use of coconut and green chillies or curry leaves? I do not recommend.

Food was good, sophisticated from the authentic simplicity of south indian dosa and idli.

I literally cannot stop thinking about the honey mango lassi - it was totally the best lassi I've ever had. Food was phenominal, we got the tandoori roti, south central combo, palak paneer, and saffron basmati rice. Between the two of us, this amount was perfect (all vegetarian). I could not recommend this place more! Also its closeness to the train station was perfect for us. We went for lunch and the whole experience (atmosphere, service, food/drink) was perfect.

Nice atmospheric south Indian restaurant. Had a good and reasonably priced Masala Dosa and a paneer masala that was less spicy and creamy than usual - but was absolutely delicious. I also had a honey-mango lassi that I also found less creamy than usual - unsure if this is a South Indian type - but was anyway sweet and fresh.

2 visits this week, both excellent. The dosas were amazing so thin and crispy . Also the starters and a lovely mixed veg curry. Couldn't fault it.

Easy booking online, welcoming and friendly staff who are not constantly hanging over you and rushing you through the courses. We were mistakenly given Chicken pakoda instead of veg, we said we were happy with the chicken pakoda. however, the waiter came over about 5mins later with veg pakoda 'on the house' and apologised. Our starters were good portions & and delicious. Our mains were lamb and veg dishes with side of rice and nann, which again were plentiful, tasty and delishious. We had Kingfisher beer with our meal. The restaurant is just a nice size, not overly crowded with a lovely atmosphere. Would definately recommend and will return. Well done Madras Cafe and Thank you.

Absolutely amazing food and service . Probably the best indisk meal I ve had outside India. I had the Punjab samosas and the Masala Dosa. It tastes so original, fresh and spicy, like being in Indian heaven. Thank you Madras café , for making my Day Iben from Denmark

A little walk away from the main part of town - but worth the visit for authentic food. Good TripAdvisor reviews were warranted. Got busy very quickly in the evening with many locals (and tourists). Very generous servings. We chose a range of dishes. Cafe seemed pleased to accommodate diners that wanted different types of taste and levels of spice. Surprisingly extensive wine list, beer and soft drink options. Service was very good with senior waiter checking everyone regularly and making sure all diners were happy. He made good recommendations too. Even a personal smile and ‘thank you’ while holding the door open for every diner as they left. Definitely worth a visit.
