Madras Cafe in Glasgow City

Oh my god. Such an amazing restaurant. The food is fantastic. So flavourful and great value. The staff were so friendly and the service was brilliant. Im literally posting this from the table. Just celebrated an anniversary. And they brought out a surprise dessert. Definitely will come back again and bring friends along. Its worth it.

Had a birthday party meal here last night. The food was tasty although the portions were very small . The bathrooms could do with a refurbishment and the prices are far too high for the small portions received. I would rate this place 5 out of 10

On a recent outing to the city with the family we decided purely by chance to dine at Madras Cafe. What an amazing experience. Our host Shihab was very informative about the menu and went out of his way to ensure that each dish ordered was suitable to everyone’s palate. A superb selection of starters was served. The Spicy Lamb Chops were succulent. The Frankie Roll was not to be missed and the Varutha Fish which was pan-fried King Fish with vibrant spices was truly amazing. The customary Chicken Pakora also hit the spot. The main courses which followed also did not disappoint, Chicken Madras, Bombay Butter Chicken, Lamb Punjabi (mouthwatering) and Monkfish Keralan cooked in a spicy garlic-chilli ginger and coconut sauce, delicious. Our main courses were served with a selection of Rice and Naan Bread (Peshwari Naan an absolute must). This was followed with Gulab Jaman with Ice Cream. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of both the food and the service. A return visit is definitely on the cards. Highly recommended!

Amazing experience!!! Excelent food. We had appetizers, main and desserts and all was extraordinary. Our server David went above and beyond, we felt pampered at all times. Would recommend and definitely go back to dine at Madras.

Another beautiful meal enjoyed at the Madras cafe. Lamb chops as main meal, tender meat marinaded in delicious spices cooked to perfection.

My family and I went to Madras and we had exceptional service and food. They accommodated for my coeliac allergy, and had amazing gluten free options! We all completely finished our dishes, great portion sizes and prices as well ☺️ Thank you Madras! 5/5

We had a lovely monk fish curry, lamb korma with rice and peshwari naan. The waiter was very polite, making sure we knew how spicy the monk fish dish was prior to ordering. Would definitely go again.

What a brilliant discovery. I’ve eaten in most Glasgow curry houses but not this one. It’s in a part of town I usually overlook but it was amazing, better than the other South Indian I usually go to in the merchant city. Try the chai liqueur!

Tbh I'm surprised at these rave reviews. Came with a friend on a Monday night and found the food sub standard. Had the seabass which was overcooked and dry. Starter was minimal.

Really, very good. Lovely tasty Samosa to start and a delicious Chicken Chettinad as a main course. It just tastes, and looks, like a lot of care has been put into each dish! It just tastes great!

Really great food, beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were polite and attentive also great customer service. I ordered a dish which I didn't realise had coconut in it, which is not flavour I like, I spoke to waiter and this was changed to an alternative in minutes and no charge for original selection, also provided free rice as an apology. It’s more difficult than you would imagine to find authentic Indian food- but Madras Cafe delivers every time! We are frequent guests here, travelling from Ayrshire to Glasgow to participate in their delights, either as a couple or with family. I am coeliac and their menu offers multi gluten free options. The staff are lovely and when visited with family for my husbands birthday- they made him a birthday desert. The food has depth of flavours, their Dosa’s crisp and light. Prices are very reasonable.

This is the Best chicken tikka masala i ever had, full of flavours and aroma. The pre theatre menu was of great value. Had chicken sixty-five, chicken tikka masala and a bread at 16.95. The server was very helpful and kept my request of putting some fried onion on top of my curry. Don’t miss this place if you’re near the central station.

Great food in the city centre. Slightly off the beaten track, almost hidden away from the city bustle, but definitely worth seeking out. The staff at the restaurant are courteous, helpful and polite; an excellent dining experience.

Madras Cafe has been on our to try list for a while now so we finally took the opportunity to give it a go. The front of house was clean and well presented. The staff were courteous and friendly. There were 4 of us in our party and even though the various dishes we ordered were reasonable quality, the portions were disappointingly small. The flavours, although nice, were not incredible enough to justify the pricing either. We had both chicken and vegetarian curries with portions of naan, poppadoms & rice too. All in all a bit of a let down unfortunately.

A gem of a place serving excellent food. It’s the best curry I’ve ever had, I’ve always been an Ashoka girl but this is my new go to for Indian food.

Highly modified South Indian dishes to suit local palate. You might like it if you are not from South India. Dishes are on the costlier side. I couldn't imagine you having to order a side dish for the ghee roast (dosa).

Must go place if u are looking for Authentic Tasty Indian food ! The service, David, was great and suggested a few items that were med spicy and tasty. Food was spaced out in order to enjoy the food and enjoy the ambiance. Authentic Indian music was playing and you can tell a Chef from South India was making the food. I had the spicy lamp chops, palak paneer, chicken 65, bullet naan, and King fisher beer. Great flavor and portion was appropriate. If you are in city centre area of Glasgow, come try and be ready to be satisfied.

Heard a lot about this place, and this is why decided to try this restaurant for an early dinner. I have lived in south India for 6 years and IMHO this is not an authentic South Indian restaurant. £16 for 2 pcs idli (most densed idli I have ever seen) and 2 pcs vada with that sambar (?) and coconut chutney which lacked seasoning like everything else. sambar tasted a bit like potato curry, not at all like sambar. I wouldn’t mind paying this much for a starter if it’s tastes good. The only good thing was handi chicken, which is why two stars and don’t get me started on that so called Masala chai. Overall absolutely disappointing experience, not worth it and won’t recommend it to anyone.

Probably the best Indian food I have had, the service was second to none and always with a smile. The waiter David was exceptional and explained the selection as if he was the chief, great knowledge Will definitely be back.

A lovely little gem of a restaurant tucked away behind st Enoch. Five of us went for lunch. The menu was great, with excellent vegetarian options. Started was aloo tikka. Lovely little potato fritters with delightful sauces. Highly recommend that. I went for the Lamb Rogan Josh as the main course. I can say with hand on heart that the lamb was perfect. Perfectly balanced spice and flavour. The meat was deliciously tender. The prices are great too. Prefect for a treat or a lunch date.

Didn’t think food could get better than we have already eaten but ….. Madras Cafe was excellent. Every dish we had was perfect. Some advice is not to eat before going here because you will not want to leave a crumb. Friendly, welcoming and a very efficient service. 5* Will be visiting again. 👍🏻✔️

I can only rate food as I ordered to go. The food was not correct. I ordered a chicken dish but received a sweet cheese plate, it was more dessert vs dinner. Half my food was missing and the packing was done so poorly my incorrect food spilled and ruined the correct food in the sweet sauce and a mango sauce. Very disappointed since this was a highly recommended place for the food quality and it’s ability for takeaway.

My wife treated me to meal at this small restaurant because of its Tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and used fresh ingredients and the service was also very good. Highly recommend this Indian Restaurant.

We went for a casual dinner with friends having first visited the restaurant a couple of days before and been impressed. It was a bit of a punt that really paid off. Our pals were just as pleased as we were with the food - we were spoiled for choice so had the £29.50/pp menu for the four of us. There were some new dishes and original tastes that as experienced (old!) diners we hadn’t tasted before. Hats off to the team at Madras Cafe.

I came across this café on my business trip in Scotland. With my family I enjoyed their absolutely spectacular fresh paratha (a type of flat bread), their lamb biriyani and their variety of different curries. Each one had a unique flavour, however all the food there shared the same texture which is what made it worth a 5 star review for me. All their food did not feel as oily or as heavy in fat as most Indian restaurants do. I would definitely would recommend this to anyone as this is an experience in your life you don't want to miss.

Overall 4+ stars for the service. Location was difficult to find. They did an amazing job in making North indian Food (Aloo Tikki, Paneer Gravy and Naan) but the Dosa was Okish and sambhar wasn't upto the mark. Should hire a better South Indian speciality cook. Staff was courteous and friendly.

A hidden gem due to its unsuspecting location. We shared a gorgeous dinner for four. Staff were attentive and welcoming, without being overbearing. Portion sizes of mains were generous. All food was delicious and clearly prepared with a lot of care. We left very full and content!

Absolutely loved eating at the Madras Cafe, this was my husband and I'm first time and definitely won't be our last. We got the Chicken Sixty Five to share as a starter which was delicious. For mains, I got the Nayantara Chicken Tikka and King Prawn and my husband got the South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken - we got Jeera Fried Rice and the Garlic and Coriander Naan to accompany our mains. The mains were absolutely stunning, so fragrant and flavoursome - we finished our plates clean! My husband and I were actually celebrating our 4th year wedding anniversary, on our booking we did select this option but didn't think anything would come of it and we were that bothered, however the staff surprised by bringing out a little chocolate cake for us to share with a candle on it - so, so sweet of them to do and we are genuinely so grateful! Food is fantastic, customer service is top notch- thank you to Shihab who was so wonderful. Please give this place a try!
