Madeira's in Northampton

The food is great, but don't expect anything too fancy. Good old fashioned Portuguese menu. The only issue is, service is very slow and the food took a long time to come out. But we can forgive that because the atmosphere and food is so good.

Much like the last review, we arrived at 7pm and left at 9.30 without having our main meal. It took 30 minutes just to place a drinks order so we decided to order everything at once, as we could see how stretched they were. The drinks and simple starters arrived for about 8pm. At 8.50 the waiter said ‘two minutes’ and then again at 9.10. We decided to bail out at 9.30. Clearly not enough staff and badly organised. A shame as it’s meant to be a lovely place. However, be honest with your customers and don’t give misleading times - manage expectations!!

Came here for a birthday meal with friends and had my kids with me. We arrived at 7 and ordered as soon as we were able to. By 930 there was still no food and we were told it was on its way several times. The kids were very hungry and it was only when we said we would go elsewhere that they got the kids food out (it was only nuggets and chips). We cancelled our own order at 10 as it was still no where in sight and we couldn't be given a time. We had been one of the first to arrive in an empty restaurant and other tables and come in much much later, ordered and had their food and were leaving by the time we left. It's appalling really. Half the party had some sort of food arrive before we left but the others we found out were waiting up to another hour after we left for their food. As we left the restaurant we found they were still serving takeaway orders throughout this which just baffled us if you can't keep up with the people you already have there

Spent a fabulous night here yest eve, celebrating a friend’s birthday. From the front of the restaurant it doesn’t look much but once you get inside it feels like you’ve been transported away to one of your favourite foreign holiday restaurants. It was a delight to make a return visit. Once again, the food was excellent. Best garlic bread in town. Waiting staff can’t do enough for you. Nothing too much trouble. Choice of music great. So much so it was lovely to be able to get up, let your hair down and have a good dance/sing-song. A brilliant night was had by all. Thanks Madeira 👍🏻

This has got to be the best spot ever! They are so welcoming and friendly you feel like your on holiday when coming hear it’s amazing! The food is very tasty and amazing quality for the price. It is a little chilly in the winter time out the back but they put the heating on for us which was lovely! Defiantly worth the visit I’m defiantly coming back

We’ve just spent a Sunday afternoon here the atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff can’t do enough for you . The quality of the food is second to none. Until you walk outside you would think you were in a little corner of Portugal. Highly recommend for any occasion.

Visited on 17/11/21 for a meal with my wife - the meal was delicious - 2 courses of Portuguese "heaven" that brought back holiday memories. It was quiet but that was due to us eating early but one or two others came in to eat after us. The staff were extremely friendly - even the owner took time to come over to speak to us and asked if we had enjoyed the meal.

This restaurant is a real hidden gem. Cosy atmosphere, great service, great food, great for all ages our kids loved it too.

We and all our friends love this place and can't wait to get back in . The Fishcake starters are so light . I have never had anything I didn't like and I've worked my way through a fair chunk of the menu. You can't beat the drinks prices anywhere. We are booking for next week .

We had kebabs on sticks that was tasty. The pizzas were amazing, the Portuguese dishes were interesting and varied. This is a lovely little place and the conservatory has been decorated in bright colours and flags, with a TV playing music. This was fun and different,we would return to try other dishes. My husband had a 'Francesinha'. He loved it.

It was my first visit and my only regret is not to have visited sooner! A cosy restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and fantastic Portuguese food. Plenty of choice on the menu and for drinks. I will definitely be visiting Maderia's again soon!

I visited with my family, and I have to say it was amazing! From the food, to the service, and atmosphere I couldn’t ask for anything better. It was just simply delicious. Lots of options for food, Highly recommend a visit, I’m definitely coming back again soon!

Great authentic Portuguese Cuisine. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in lively colours and feels super cozy. The food was amazing and really tasty. We had the beef kebabs and franceshina - to die for! All well prepared. The service was five star. Friendly and welcoming staff. We will certainly be back!

Went here with family as visiting the area, Wow what amazing customer service, the food is truly yummy the staff amazing, so friendly and nothing too much trouble. I recommend this restaurant big time it’s out of the way down birchfield road so if you went during the day you would miss it if you blinked your eye!, it’s people friendly, children friendly, even a dog was in not miss behaving at all. The lady who served us was fantastic as if you have an allergy she will also make sure that the ingredients in your choice is going to be especially for you. Would highly recommend this restaurant. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Such a special hidden gem in Northampton. I came to eat with my family and had the best evening. The food was absolutely incredible, the staff were all very welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere also amazing! Would definitely recommend, I will be coming here more often!

Have been here a few times with family and friends. On first sight it can look like just a takeaway. But go in and there are tables in the rear. The own is friendly and helpful, the food is lovely, fish is excellent and the skewers are good too. The house wine is delicious. I didn't know plain rice could taste good. The prices are good as well. Well worth a try.

Just ordered takeaway pizza was made fresh and was delicious excellent value for money too. Staff were lovely too.

We were happy with our visit from start to finish. We popped in to see if they were able to cater for a food allergy. Not a problem at all. We returned with the rest of our group. We were given a warm welcome. The restaurant area is magical. It felt like we had been transported to Portugal. The food, the atmosphere, the service and the drinks could not be faulted. Very good value. Such a shame we live 100 miles from this delightful place.

This is our local got to restaurant. Very friendly , good value for money and some great Portuguese food.

Have now been here twice, my dad having introduced me to the place earlier last week. I took 2 of my friends along with me and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Not your typical eatery, but still a great experience. When you first enter the front looks just like a takeaway, however round the corner there is a lovely restaurant/seating area. The food is very tasty, good size portions and excellent value for money.The waitress is very lovely and makes the experience that little bit nicer.

This place really does feel like a restaurant / food place you would find if you were on holiday. The portions are sizeable and the people are lovely. I’d recommend this place to anyone. It’s great!

Had been looking forward to eating here for some time. Went in and felt quite unwelcome as it seemed to be full of regulars who didn’t like others being there. The food portions were big for salads and the meat was very good - overall great value price wise. Could be a lot cleaner mind you!

Came here for dinner with 4 of my friends and my husband, we'd heard this was a good place to eat and the food was average and good value but I'm unlikely to return. The atmosphere was strange and we felt like we were intruding on the regulars who seemed quite at home. Love Portuguese food but will have to head into London like before rather than returning.

Been to this place numerous times to celebrate my friends birthday and my birthday. The pizzas are always amazing and so is sangria! The chicken shish was heavenly.

Lovely place, very friendly staff & more importantly fantastic food It was for my son's 9th birthday and they really enjoyed it. The fish courses are recommended We will come back for more!

A couple of recent reviewers seem to have had an axe to grind. Good luck to them. Go somewhere else! Back at Madeira's on Friday for a big Backgammon tournament match. Made welcome, as always. Food and drink delicious and excellent value, as always. No longer do shisha, which has made the atmosphere less vibrant and enjoyable, but might now be a bit better for people looking for a quiet night out. Great place!

We have visited place tonight , and i am so sorry to say it was horrible.We came with my partner and a kid, place was filled with few other groups. First wen we sat down, there was a complitely drunk woman, she was loud all restaurant was turning heads, nothing was said to her partner to take her out. But that was not an issue.Waiter came to take drinks order - we didnt even have a wine list. No prices. So we just took a small jug of wine. When he came for a food order - we asked few questions about food and he seemed so unsure what is good, no recomendations at all. Finally he said that there is an amazing portugese dish - my partner took it. It was not on the menu though. We asked for it to be bacon free, he said ok. I got fish for myself with rice and salad.When food arrived - it was a bowl with sandwich inside, topped with a gravy ( more like a soup) and chips on top. Sandwich had salami and ham inside ( we asked for no bacon - no pork) its was fulled with it.My fish was ok, rice was filled with butter ( i was hoping for some flavour in it, but no). Salad had no olive oil or salt in it, just 3 slices of cucumber and tomato, and iceberg lettuce cut. We had no salt or pepper on the table, no sause was offered. Lady brought food to the table without saying any word at all and left quickly. My hubby sent the pork sandwich back - reordered mixed grill instead. We said we will pay for sandwich - no problems. I ate my fish alone - while waiting for grill. When it arrived it was a huuge plate filled with meat and chips with same cut vegetables. It didnt look nice, tasted not fresh, at the end we left all the plate full with food. Noone came to us to ask if we at least need salt or mayo, it was dry and tasteless. What shocked me the most - owner of the place was sitting down with his friends at the next table - smoking shisha and chatting. Same thing did our waiter. But nobody even bothered to come to us and ask if everything is ok, do we need water etx.My partner had to stand up and go to the cupbord to get some sause for us himself!!! I do realise that this place is just a small place in middle of nowhere- but it is fun by a family - it should be looked after. If u are a person who wants to eat a lot, dont really care what it looks like and tastes like and pay £10 - go for it. We payed £35 for a plate of rice and piece of fish, two other playes went straight to the bin. We payed - nobody asked how we liked it. It was awful. Better go billing or mcD.I love food and go and try new places - this one is a miss. Would never go back.

We booked for a Friday night 3 weeks ahead as we left after our first visit, which had been very good. No note was taken of our booking which is always a worry.When we arrived bang on 7.00pm 3 weeks later we were greeted with blank looks followed by 'why didn't you ring and confirm?' Well, call me old fashioned and Mr.Picky but we had booked last time we were there. It was made out to be our fault!We were then crammed into a small room with 2 tables, the other seated sensibly about 12 but for about an hour there was constant seat rearranging and people coming in and out as about 20 people were trying to be shoehorned in. It was chaos.Having ordered at 7.10, we sat, and sat, and sat waiting for our meal. A party of 30 people arrived AFTER us and were all catered for in the main eating area before us. Eventually at 8.45, we were taken through to where the party of 30 had already left, seated and presented with our meals at 8.50. So 1 hour 40 minutes after ordering we finally ate.NOT ONE APOLOGY either while we were waiting or as we paid and left.This was our second and ABSOLUTELY OUR FINAL visit to this restaurant. Never, ever again.

Always worth travelling down from Liverpool for a night at the Madeira. Great food, great value, great people. And very, very friendly!

Probably my favourite place for a relaxing night out. Used to be called Mediterranean Grill. At the front just looks like a takeaway but the main room is at the back. Lot of people go for sheesha, which I don't fancy, but I love the food and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Welcoming, inclusive place. Had hummus starter with olives and (new to me) Lupini beans. Then a wonderful mixed grill with a couple of Coral beers from Madeira. Terrific value. Always a joy!

Um bom restaurante para comer ou simplesmente para um café ao final da tarde com alguns amigos. . A comida é excelente e adorei o atendimento.. vou voltar sempre que for possível. . Recomendo!!!Comidinha portuguesa e agora com mercearia. .

Really tasty home style food, gorgeous bread, tender beef skewers and massive portions Would recommend the Piri Piri sauce to go with the beef, prawns in garlic were delicious. Dining room in conservatory is rustic but welcoming, service is friendly.A welcome change from chain restaurants. Deceptive from the front as looks like a take away, definitely worth a visit.
