Mumtaz lounge in Northampton

Went yesterday on a Sunday (13/04/25) with two cousins as the new Mumtaz lounge have now moved to Merlins. Ordered King Prawns for starters but it wasn’t spicy enough for my liking even though I did ask the waiter to make it spicy Bengali style. In my glass of Diet Coke however there was a fly which I told the waiter about which he just laughed and put the glass on a nearby table. He didn’t do anything about it until I told him I need a new glass! The Keema Nan was good and was fresh but the mixed grill for the main again was not spectacular. The tandoori chops they gave to replace the chicken which apparently they ran out of was quite tough to chew and not soft. Overall it’s nothing special and the fact that there was a fly in the glass when they poured the coke raises questions about their hygiene and so won’t be coming back.

- Gave us dips then half way through took them from us saying "they aren't fresh" - Over an hour to get our food - The fizzy drinks were flat - Warm tap water given - 25 mins to get the bill after asking three times - Toilet had no soap and nothing to dry your hands The food was alright but everything else was very poor. Didn't feel very welcomed, the interior is very run down.

Its a shame i have to say this but they need training on customer service. Been a regular for years now. Always have a cheeky takeaway. We decided to eat in couple days ago and with being a regular i thought i would be greeted a little bit more friendly than i did. Felt like they didnt want me and my family there. Will not be ordering from there again!

Food is always lovely here. The only reason for writing this review is based on the Managements claimed knowledge the Taste card. The hand written receipt was very cleverly made to look confusing with prices scattered and not matching dishes. Management claimed that 3 cheapesr priced dishes free is what we were entitled to with the Taste Card. I queried this with Taste Card themselves afterwards and was advised this should have also included starters and desserts which we didn't get although I did ask over and over with the Manager. At no point was he correct. Unfortunately it doesn't matter how good your food is, if you are not honest with good customers, in this case my elderly father, you loose out.

Absolute quality, good value for money too and nice friendly staff members

Always have my takeaway from here. Never been disappointed meals really good, drivers very friendly and always within ten minutes of delivery time.

Visited with my wife and a friend and found it to be a really excellent restaurant. Very clean, very pleasantly decorated, really nice and friendly staff, excellent food and reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back.Thank you

Amazing food, cooked with love. Full of flavour and very high quality ingredients and meats. The service I received from these gentleman was so lovely. I had an issue ordering online and they helped me out over the phone and even honored the discount. The menu options were so unique and it was honestly the best food I've ever had. Can't wait to dine in. What a gem <3 .

Updated October 2024 Just had meal.... WOW EXCEPTIONAL FOOD,,, all very beautiful, tasty, so many flavours really top quality & 3 dishes, sides, extras, delived to my door, all for £20.00 !!thanks mumtaz 😁 Beautiful food and lovely service as always .

Really enjoyed Sunday lunch and the offer is better than many buffets as you order your personal favourites rice man etc for a great price. Will definitely be coming back!

Consistency is the key to success. Which is exactly what this place has. We hadn't had a chance to visit for over 5 years and yet, the quality hadn't slipped at all.

Hadn't been for a long time and had forgotten just how good the food was, will not leave it so long next time. Prices about average for an Indian restaurant. Staff friendly and welcoming. We shared pakora, tandoori paneer, biryani all cooked beautifully with lovely crunchy vegetables

Wonderful! Best Indian food I have eaten in years! Every dish was super tasty and freshly cooked. Their Thursday special deal was a bargain and my friend and I were suitably impressed. Would definitely recommend.

Food was awesome and flavoured. Food portions are great pieces of chicken are big in size. Definitely will try more and more.

I have used the Mumtaz virtually every Saturday for a number of year but no more. Today the so called medium curry was far to hot and was thrown away. I always praised the Mumtaz on there quality and the amount of meat in the curry. Today there was very little meat poor quality covered up with lots of sauce. It is now time to find a new Indian restaurant. I have to ammend my review. On Sunday out of the blue the manager of the Mumtaz arrived at my home to apologise for the poor quality of the food he gave me a very nice bottle of red wine and told me my next order was free. I was stunned and still cannot believe what happened. I will of course be returning. Thank you so much

First time going food was banging, didn't know what to have asked waitor to recommend something and it was delicious will defo go or order from there again.

We have had a very good meal at the restaurant previously which made us want to return for a family birthday. It was a Thursday evening and a completely different eating experience. While the welcome and service was friendly, the starters were good it was when we received our mains that we were disappointed. We have over 30 years experience of Asian cuisine after growing up in West London so we know what to expect from our orders. So I was surprised when I ordered a balti dish lacking in identifiable vegetables and flavour apart from an abundance of salt, the chicken was undercooked and rubbery. Another of us ordered a biriyani and asked that the vegetable side dish have a little heat to it to contrast with the rice. The waiter suggested Phal strength (we are not the type of English people to be competing on levels of chilli intake) to which he said 'no, just a little heat please'. It seems the waiter or the chef did not understand this and basically put overly massive heat into the rice (not a usual Biriyani) and the vegetables, which by the way, were unidentifiable apart from onion. The tikka masalas were extremely sweet and red (which I know is different everywhere) but the sweetness meant you couldn't taste the tomatoes. It was a family celebration so we didn't complain properly, although we did ask why there was the extreme heat in the rice, and if the chef was ok and the waiter brought yoghurt to bring balance but apart from heat and salt it was still lacking in all the many wonderful flavours we should have been able to taste. It was not a cheap meal and it was one of the worst meals we have had, and sadly it only takes one bad meal to stop going to the restaurant because there are many other restaurants which consistently make great food. Unfortunately we can't recommend this restaurant to anyone on this experience.

Tonight I had a reservation here with a big group of friends which was booked weeks ago...when we got there at 7.45pm as we were asked, they said they were not ready for us. So we had go away and come back which we did an hour later....they were still not ready for us...another 30 minutes later we got in...we were sat down on two tables near each other...after already giving them our food order a few days before to make it easy, they still went round twice to collect the food orders!!! So two hours after our booking time and still no food....some of us eventually got our food at 10pm....others were still being served their food at 10.15pm... some of us had to wait for drink orders to be taken whilst the other table had their drinks a while before.... when some of us started leaving as it was getting late, they miscounted the people left to split the bill so some people who were drinking Champagne and some who drank water ended up paying the same!!! What an absolute joke of a restaurant....the only good thing I can say is that the food was very well cooked and tasted lovely....but was it worth a two and a half hour wait.....ummmmm NO!!! I'm afraid I will NOT be eating here again.

Being generous this was not a very good experience the food was terribly salty and poor quality I couldn't recommend this place to anyone and will not be returning.

Food is fantastic ordered here again last night and had madras curry pilau rice Chicken tikka st. BomBay potatoes naan bread and poppadoms and everything was lovely will be defo ordering again. Best curry house in northampton 10 stars

I would highly recommend this restaurant. The staff were really helpful over the phone and the ordering and delivery time was spot on. Food was delicious. Full of flavour, well packaged and nicely labelled which shows attention to detail. My kids really enjoyed the food too. 10/10.

Cheap curry, nothing special. Very oily and not much meat. Container less than half full but it was almost half the price of my usual so maybe shouldn't have expected any more. Nothing special

Having eaten in the restaurant several times & it being great. We thought a takeaway delivery was a safe option. Our food arrived 35 minutes late & it was cold. Plus it wasn't of the same quality served in the restaurant. Extremely disappointing & enough to put us off using Mumtaz again. For eating in & for takeaways. Sorry guys, but being told our food would arrive within 10 minutes when I chased up the order. Was obviously just a smokescreen to get me off the phone. We all know things go wrong occasionally but the truth is always better received than lies. If I'd been told it would be a further 30 minutes. I'd have had the option to cancel our order. Which is obviously why you weren't truthful with me.

Ive eaten at the most best restaurants that UK has to offer over 45years but when I try Mumtaz lounge I couldn't believe the tast and flavour this restaurant had to offer I had a such an enjoyable evening with my son I've been back there twice so far and I will carry on doing so I highly recommend this restaurant

We love Mumtaz for an occasional treat of a takeaway during lockdown. Decent selection of dishes. You order by phone or the usual takeaway apps. They will deliver or you can pickup yourself. Waiting time midweek is good, unsurprisingly a lot longer on Friday and Saturday even in lockdown.

Traditional Indian restaurant - all the old favourites but very well cooked. Sometimes with Indian restaurant food the underlying product gets smothered - but you can taste the fish, lamb, etc clearly. Particularly good was a potato and garlic side with very tasty spuds!

Went here today for our anniversary where to start ordered 2 cokes both were flat so asked for them to be replaced so off to a bad start we got there about 6.30 the place was empty we waited ages for our food when it came was told sorry we have 30 deliveries which is why we waited so long. When the food got here we were missing a nan bread when I tried to speak to the guy to ask about the nan bearing in mind the restaurant was empty he cut me up and said let me stop u there the phones ringing then another guy came and replaces the nan I then ordered a cobra beer which was also flat at this point I was done complaining and just wanted to leave when we asked for the bill the guy tries to make up for a bad experience by offing us free drinks on the house and we asked if we could get them to go there was a bit of no we can't but then came back with one bottle of cobra for me and the wife were we supposed to share it as for the food was pretty bad it was a good job I wasn't that hungry I ordered the tandoori mixed grill first time here for our anniversary will be our last time bad service bad food and bad compensation for the above also I rarely ever complain as I'm too embarrassed but this was awful

If you wish for delivery service use just eat as delays from ordering direct are rediculus. Most recent today over 1 hour!!!

Brilliant food, great service, can’t fault it!

Staff are sound, food-wise the best Indian I've ever had.

Service was reasonable, the Tandoori mixed grill was overcooked and on the dry side, though edible. The onion Bhaji's were good, along with the Mushroom Bhajia, which was very good. House white was reasonable for the price. A solid experience.

First time visiting Mumtaz and it certainly wasn't a disappointment! The food looked so full of colour and was tasty with plenty of different choices and the Cobra beer was ice cold and accompanied the food amazingly! Will definitely be back !

The food is really good. Probably the best in Northampton. Service is friendly and efficient. I don't know why but the place is rarely crowded. Perhaps the restaurant lacks atmosphere. Worth a visit just for the food.

We visited Mumtaz for an impromptu Sunday afternoon curry because we're feckless and couldn't get our shiz together to make a roast. Was this a good idea? Was the buffet up to scratch? Well, before we answer those questions, let's just take a moment to bow at the alter of Cobra - truly a lager worthy of the supporting actor Oscar to curry's starring role. Okay, on to the service. The guys at Mumtaz are so welcoming and friendly that you literally expect them to pull up a table next to you and show you their family albums - a service that's lovely, but sometimes you just want to eat your curry in peace. This isn't a criticism, guys, we love you. The food, dude, review the food! The buffet was plentiful, well cooked, tasty, distinctive and varied enough to be worth coming back.
