Please avoid if you have kids as my 2 sons was getting pervy looks by this bald haired guy and it's a staff member at there place randomly approaches my kids all the time and keeps doing this and I have even witnessed he is doing this to other vulnerable children aswell.

Lots of local people in the place. I ordered a Francesinha and it was nice 6.5/10. Also some Portuguese pastries 8/10. Service is a little bit slow because it’s basically a one man show in the kitchen…but it’s worth the wait. Closes really early and it’s not opened for dinner.

Authentic, great quality Portuguese food, kind staff and a lovely atmosphere. Love the variety of dishes, and trying new things. Stand out dishes for me with the pasteis be bacalhau, the bacalhau com natas and the francesinha! Fresh and delicious! Would definitely recommend

The cafe is frequented by locals. Service is very slow, The coffee isn’t nice, The decor is tired and dated, The kitchen isn’t very clean, the food isn’t too bad however expensive Toilets aren’t disabled friendly. The owner isn’t very nice he favours regulars over other customers, Interfering in people’s personal issues, Has a narcissistic and dominant attitude.

We were working at the Sea Cadet RYA boat station, it was freezing, madeira cafe was welcoming & served us up a tasty full breakfast, and the cost was very reasonable, fully recommend to all, thanks Angie and Catrina .

The food arrived pretty quickly and nice and warm. I was worried the sauce would spill but it was fine as it was well packed. Very nice.

Arroz de pato and Bacalhau à Braz were great and a lovely bottle of Muralhas for £20. Delicious lunch at a very reasonable price. Will definitely be back to try bacalhau com natas and francesinha.

I Recommend Portuguese food to everybody why not come and try it. + Breakfasts Lunches and more. Very nice Portuguese wine every nice desert plus Portuguese custard tarts. Nice Brandy

If you're looking for authentic Portuguese cuisine the food here is unfortunately disappointing

We were looking for a Portuguese restaurant and found this one not too far away which had good Portuguese food. However, upon arrival we sit down and looked at the menu and it's completely different. We thought we were in the wrong place. There was a Bifana and Prego which showed us it was Portuguese but that was all. The environment was not great. When we arrived there were a few people sitting outside so we went inside which was empty. The atmosphere was dull apart from some music that would play sometimes. It actually looked like it was playing from the owner's phone as it stopped when he received a call. As well there was just this one person, till, front of house and kitchen. The service was okay. Expect to wait for food, however, and this is the only reason I am giving 4 stars (otherwise I would give 1 or 2 stars) the food was great! To be honest it doesn't even describe it. The person that was there seemed tired (or just done being there) but the smile and the thumbs up he gave us when we asked for a second round and told him the food was delicious was actually worth it. The Bifana was one of the best ones I've eaten in a long time. Food is cooked to order that's why it takes time. It felt like a homemade type of cooking and I loved it. I could see how happy this person was on the kitchen so I hope he can stay there cooking and enjoying himself more. The sweet potato fries seemed like a only choice thing. I don't think they had regular fries and didn't even ask if I wanted/liked sweet potato. Which I do but they were a bit soggy and were just the frozen ones pre-cooked. But please go and eat the Bifana there! That sauce was something else! I don't know if it's a weekend/Bank Holiday thing having another menu but I really hope they go back (or serve any other time) the food that was on the menu online. Because I am definitely going back to try it!

Owner is very friendly once you get chatting. Food was lovely had a yummy English breakfast and plenty of it ! Good pricing and a lovely mug of tea. Thank you.

Steak, sausage, ham, cheese, egg stacked on toast with the most amazing sauce AND chips! The missus had to roll me home after but was well worth it. Ive been waiting months trying to find a place that does this sandwich and it was seriously one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had. Great customer service too, so friendly and chatty! Have already recommended to my mates so expect a few more visits soon!

Nice place for a coffee in Portsalde.

Came here with my wife after a recommendation from her work colleague. This little restaurant is tucked away in the high street and you could miss it quite easily. But I would encourage everyone to hunt the place out. The menu is mixed with english breakfasts and sandwiches at very good prices alongside a Portuguese menu and a mexican menu. We opted for Portuguese as the owner is from Madera. We shared pasteis de bacalhau which is basically cod crochets. These were very good and ypu could really taste the fish the exterior wasnt your typical over cooked over fried crochet. Lightly cooked with a good crunch. We then shared arroz de pato duck with rice and chorizo as well as lula estufada stuffed squid.Both dishes were nicely cooked the squid was soft and not chewy at all in fact perfectly cooked. The duck was rich and succulent not at all dry.Overall we thought it was a great little find and will be going back soon

Our Portuguese languiage group are regular visitors here for our annual Christmas get together. Roberto never fails to please with his excellent cooking and friendly service. We all love it!!

All food is made fresh to order and you can find uk cafe food like toasties, burgers, all day breakfasts as well as a selection of portuguese dishes. Bifanas, pregos, bacalhao, polvo, lulas, rissois varios, Francesinhas!! Etc.etc.Good portuguese style coffeesAs a foodie that enjoys Portuguese flavours this is a great place to eat.

Never been before but came with my friend and her baby .had some tapas including filled tortillas and breaded cod fillets. Then had the lovely Portuguese custard tarts for desert. Great service. Lovely place

We visit this cafe/restaurant most Saturdays for breakfast which is always very nice & reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. The owner, Roberto, is very entertaining and always gives us a laugh; don't know if he always means to though - lol! Would like to try the Portuguese evening menu too.

Sadly we did not have time to eat lunch when typical Portuguese dishes are served. But judging from the brunch we had, the food at lunch must be even better and truly authentic! The natas are to die for!

The Cafe Madeira is a small and unprepossessing place in appearance but is in reality a real find for anyone who wants to eat beautifully prepared and presented Portuguese food (a well as the traditional cafe fare). The pasteis de bacalhau are the best I and our Portuguese Language Group have ever tasted and the rest of the menu is equally fine.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's well worth a trip out to Portslade for this little gem. Great quality food, and good selection of Portuguese wines and liqueurs.

We were travelling to Brighton just only for bank holiday weekend. We were looking for different food tonight, We love Portuguese food. Searching TripAdvisor and then found Madeira Cafe. Food was fantastic and good presentation. we had duck rice and cod fish, yummy! very tasty Portuguese food! Friendly Portuguese Chef and Owner!!! Portuguese wine was also very nice and good price, £3.50 for 175ml. a bottle wine only £14. if we are not that tired after sun, I would have a bottle of red instead to chill out ;) had a pastel de nata ( Portuguese egg tart) to take away. very good value. Two people just £38 2 course meal, sharing dessert and pastel de nata with a glass of wine/ beer each and free street parking after 6pm. We will definitely return to Madeira Cafe next time in Brighton :)

We have been there this afternoon for lunch and we found on the menu the truly Portuguese cuisine with very traditional dishes (including 2 vegetarian options), in a typical environment.

It is sad there is only 2 Portuguese restaurant in Brighton but I am glad I have found this one round the corner from my house!!! :) they also have Portuguese produces which they sell during the week. You can even just come round and pick those lovely Portuguese custard tarts! :) I definitely recommend it to everyone. Tasty food at a bargain ;)

We had our second visit to Roberto ' s evening restaurant last night,it was even better than our last two weeks ago.

If you are looking for the truly Portuguese taste, Madeira Café nearby Portslade Train Station is the place to go. The Bacalhau a Lagareiro and the Octopus are just divine! You can also enjoy a good selection of Portuguese beers such as Super Bock and Coral, the latter a must from Madeira!
