Burnt Orange in Brighton and Hove

Definitely my favourite eating place in Brighton. Amazing food, full of flavours and lovely different cocktails.

Excellent food, attentive service and great atmosphere. Absolutely would go back!

I’ve been here a few times and it is sublime every time. Try book in advance to get a seat inside.

Excellent Food, Atmosphere and Service. This is our favourite restaurant in Brighton, where every dish is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The spicy margaritas are top-notch and every member of staff was friendly and attentive.

Delicious small plates, nice ambience and great service. Tried their experience menu and would recommend it for first timers. It gives a real idea of the food n variety of options. Miso aubergine was amazing. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu.

Dropped in on a Monday lunchtime. Was able to get a table in this fun, busy restaurant. All the plates we tried were delicious. The staff were really friendly. Highly recommend.

Great service and wonderful food

My partner and I visited for a Valentine’s Day/birthday lunch. He has several allergies and they were beyond accommodating. They even had a little special touch to help us celebrate both of our birthdays. The service was great and the food is incredible - stand outs for us were the sea bream, aubergine, and squash. Highly recommend!

Great food, great service & lovely chilled atmosphere

I really regret not reacting yesterday when I saw how burnt my bread was. I asked my boyfriend, and he said the restaurant’s name is Burnt Orange—I actually thought it was intentional. The service was good, but if my food didn’t meet the serving standard, why was it even brought to the table? Looking at Google reviews, other people’s bread wasn’t nearly as burnt as mine. No wonder it tasted bitter… and isn’t this carcinogenic? I feel like their quality control is really lacking Their fish was also a bit burnt, but it was tasty, so I didn’t mind.

We were in the private room, separate building. Great food and service although a little cold.

A first time visit and will certainly not be our last. Fantastic food, matched with equally fantastic drinks and perfect service. Could not fault it and will definitely be returning.

Burnt Orange was recommended to us by a work colleague, I was looking for somewhere for my husband’s birthday lunch. I’m happy to report back that her recommendation was spot on. We had the Experience menu and it was superb. Wonderful staff - attentive but low key and very knowledgeable. Cocktails were fab!

Fantastic lunch! I'm not from Brighton - so when I booked this restaurant for a celebratory lunch with my family - I had no idea what treats lay ahead! Firstly, the restaurant itself is really pretty. You enter through a little Mediterranean style courtyard which, in on warmer days must be a real pleasure to dine in. Next, the service! They have really got this right. Very welcoming, very personable, very attentive and on it - but at no point intrusive. Finally, the food - wow!! It was truely delicious and flavoursome and really thoughtfully prepared. Also, do not be fooled by the 'small plates' we all came away very content and full! I would have no hesitation to recommend this little gem and I only hope that I'll return to Brighton at some point - in the not too distant future, so I can dine there again!

Staff were attentive, very quick with food. The decor was classy. Our food was over salted for our liking and the portions disappointly small for the cost..

Went back again yesterday. Generally very good indeed, just a couple of points. It felt rather chilly in the restaurant despite being nowhere near a door or window. Also I guess you were busy, but my dessert was almost slung on the table by the passing waitress. It wasn't the best way to end an otherwise enjoyable meal with generally good service.

Dined here for my 22nd Birthday and was left very disappointed. The atmosphere was very overwhelming due to being extremely loud and cramped in the bar area, the seated area was more breathable which was nice, but still awkwardly intimate. Throughout, the staff and service was impeccable, really really kind server Alicia looked after me really well. I was served my prawns which were sadly undercooked, I switched to Calamari which was underwhelming and very small portions. The crawfish kofta was okay but again very small portion. Artichoke was cremated and tasted burnt ! Overall I wouldn’t go back which is a shame.

The food and drinks are exceptional and worth the visit alone, however I would visit Burnt Orange simply if I’d had a bad day - because every single member of their team was a delight. We had an absolutely fabulous time!

We had an excellent dinner here last night. The service, hospitality and attention to detail was first class. The staff could not have been more helpful. We have been serial expats and this was the first time in 3 years that we've had such good food in the UK - we cannot recommend it more highly. Great atmosphere and buzzing for a Monday night. The pre-dinner cocktails were excellent too. All in all a solid 10/10.

We had the vegan experience menu and it was out of this world. The food was outstanding and bursting with so many flavours. Was a whole new experience. I am a meat eater, but who needs meat when you have food like this. We totally recommend this restaurant. Beautiful and friendly atmosphere.Great service ❤️

My visit was perfect! The staff were incredible - so understanding of my delays- they turned my rubbish evening of train cancellations around with impeccable cocktails (great margaritas and loved the Kalimera), interesting wine selection (never had a Japanese white wine before) and a veganuary menu that was so well constructed and delicious. Absolutely delicious food, very well cooked, packed with lots of flavours. No doubt one of the very best restaurants in Brighton. The room is a bit noisy, but the food more than makes up for it.

We ate at Burnt Orange at lunchtime on Friday and had a wonderful time. It was our first visit. Myself and my husband live in the area and we had our friend with us who was visiting from Guernsey. We chose well in dining at Burnt Orange. We were well looked after and the service was attentive and very helpful. Thank you and we will be delighted to visit again.

The best flavours i’ve ever tasted!! Made the unreal choices of mussels on toast, followed by bbq steak with squash side and left the restaurant in an elated mood! Yuzu margarita and bread and butter old fashioned were stunning and all round a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to return!

Love love love. We had a fantastic evening at Burnt Orange in the private dining room. Food and service were both excellent. The menu is exciting and simply delicious. Generous portions, unusual and tasty flavour combinations. Relaxed and friendly vibe. Was recommended to us and would have no hesitation recommending to others.

Great food, great atmosphere, lovely place. Only spoiled by the lady waitress giving my dad a bit of attitude for asking for the coffee to be brought after dessert instead of before it (which is a service custom in most of Europe) and then bringing back a cold espresso after the dessert.

I had a voucher so took 2 of my oldest friends for a treat during veganuary so some of us could try the vegan menu. I cant fault anything, from the warm greeting as we arrived (how often are we ignored on arrival at other restaurants!), to the advice from the staff on the menu especially when I asked which wines were vegan and the outstanding flavours of the food. All in all a definite 5/5!

Went in without a booking and they managed to squeeze us in. Service was impeccable, the staff were so friendly. They took our coats and our drinks and food came so quickly. Definitely worth the price and the staff made it such a warm welcome

Overrated Service poor, during the ordering quite pushy, during the meal not to be found Food was entertaining Wine list was disappointing considering the reputation of the restaurant. General atmosphere was warm and welcoming. On leaving and reflecting on price and attention given to customers it felt a little fake.

Love it here. The staff are fantastic. Atmosphere great and the food is really really good! I’m not a vegetarian but love the veggie food and opt for more veg than meat which is new for me. Great wine and cocktails too.

Every dish was far too salty! Do they even taste their own food? Fish raw (that dish in particular was supposed to be cooked through), flat bread tasted of the ocean, BBQ chicken RAW and unsafe to eat. I will say the service was excellent and the restaurant design was very pleasing and elegant.

Best place to have seafood. Counter seating by the live kitchen makes it fun. I would recommend the ‘grilled marinated prawns’; though it is tedious to remove the shells, the taste is worth the effort.

This is my favourite restaurant and wish there was one in Tunbridge Wells. The food is always amazing and the staff are excellent.

I enjoyed my experience at Burnt Orange. The food was enjoyable, there were exciting options on the menu, the service was good, and the staff were accommodating to our last minute timing change due to snow making us late. The negatives would be our location within the restaurant and the cost. Our table was seated in the middle section close to the stairs that access the toilet. Atmosphere was lacking although it looked great in the front or back section. Also, I thought it was a little pricy when I compare to other places we have eaten out of the same calibre. I would visits again though.

Absolutely in love with the food we ate and the service we received! 😍 Had seen some cool reviews about the restaurant, so booked it for our wedding anniversary; it lived up to our expectations. Cozy vibes, great food and drinks, exceptional service. Will come again for sure!

we had the vegan tasting menu and it was incredibly tasty and filling - we couldn't actually finish everything. My dining partner had been sceptical about vegan food, but was really happy. The food was varied and delicious. My only quibble is that there isn't any obvious protein in any of the dishes other than nuts to garnish. As a life long wholefood vegetarian, I always expect beans, legumes, lentils, whole grains etc to be provided as a protein source but increasingly with the introduction of the dreadful UPF "vegan meat and cheese" replacements, these old (and inexpensive!) staples seem to have fallen out of favour with chefs and I do not understand why?

Amazing food, drink and service

Wow! Wow! Wow! One of the best restaurants we have eaten in all over the world. Every dish was outstanding! Our service was incredible and the recommendations from our waitress were spot on. Cocktails also amazing! The best espresso martini of my life. We had counter searing which was great as we got to window shop all the dishes being prepared before choosing. We came for lunch and have booked again for dinner as it is our last night in the UK.

We were looking for a busy restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday on a Monday evening and Burnt Orange came up trumps! From the personal welcome when we arrived to the friendly knowledgeable service and the food!!! OMG delicious! You must try this place. A new personal favourite in Brighton. My favorite place to book in Brighton whenever I have something to celebrate! One star less for atmosphere just because it’s always so loud and busy, too popular for its own good haha!

Not a first-timer at the restaurant but I booked the private dinning room for my friend's birthday party and we had the best service and the best food experience! It was 10 of us and we all agreed everything was impecable, very professional and made us all want to come again! Burnt Orange will remain one of my favourite spots in Brighton, well done to all the staff for the hard work and dedication!

We selected the experience menu, which offered a variety of their dishes. To begin, we were presented with four of their appetizers. For the main course, we enjoyed three of their main dishes accompanied by two side dishes. It really was a pleasant experience, and the service was exceptional.

5 stars all round! We had the meat experience menu and it was delicious! Lovely wine and a sorbet cocktail to finish off which was very good too. Service was amazing and all staff members were so lovely! We will 100% be back.

Exceptional in every way. Staff were friendly and great at explaining the dishes. So much passion from them. Food was delicious. I am vegetarian and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Lovely ambiance and a relaxed vibe.

A pleasant evening to entertain some business colleagues. The food was perfectly good, however, my only criticism is that almost all the dishes are creamy or with a sauce or emulsion. And a single glass of Rioja at £16 seemed quite high. Good and attentive staff and warm atmosphere. A bit of freshness on the menu needed though in my opinion to accompany creamy dishes.

A party of 5 had an excellent 2 1/2 hour lunch at Burnt Orange with delicious food which had been prepared with much thought and care, very attentive but not hovering staff and such a nice atmosphere. Every bite was a new sensation of taste. What a treat to eat here.

We spent an anniversary at Burnt Orange yesterday evening as a special treat and we were not disappointed! The cocktails were superb not just the usual ones, some really nice combinations. The food was equally as good and lots of choice, l think we'll keep going back till we've tried everything on the menu. The booking process was simple Donni, Bronwyn and Gareth made sure it went smoothly, we had drinks which we actually ordered in advance; waiting for us upon our arrival. Thanks to everyone you're a class act without being 'stuffy', you made our night very special. We will be returning soon to check out the live DJ👍👍

Extremely well cooked food. Minor quibble with the overall coherence of the tasting menu, which felt like it was two separate worlds fired together by the grill. But very good!

We had a banquet! The food was absolutely delicious and very unique. They have a brilliant selection of vegan, vegetarian and meat options, and everything tasted as good as it sounded. Highly recommend

One of the best restaurants on the planet!! My group had a mix of veggies and meat eaters and we chose the Experience menu. Every dish had a unique flavour and the food was outstanding. Kudos to the Chef and his team!!

Positives - service was quick, discrete and friendly; price is OK but would rather spend more and eat better Negatives - single glazed windows in front room meant very noticeable cold air coming into the room and negatively affecting the ambience The food? Mussel dish was very good Rest was Frankly disappointing- artichokes labelled as simple artichokes but actually Jerusalem artichokes that are completely different - completely overcooked just short of burnt with nothing other than texture and a bland hummus like sauce on the side (1/10) Sea bream despite being covered in a non descript orange sauce had little or no flavour though tender (3/10) Chicken was well cooked and only rendered more interesting by the gherkins (4/10) Celeriac hummus did not in any way taste of celeriac possibly watered down with some other beans (2/10) Aubergine was pretty good but overly covered in crispy onions (3/10) The dulce de leche ice cream was ok (4/10) The panna cotta was frankly shockingly bad - tasted of very little just like a mouthful of creamy butter. Only salvaged by the toppings (1/10) On the surface a lot of the food looks good but it is actually pretty poorly cooked and does not pack anywhere near enough flavour. You guys need a serious rethink.

Absolutely wonderful evening at Burnt Orange. The restaurant is cosy and welcoming, the perfect oasis from the battering wind and rain besieging Brighton today. The food was absolutely amazing - the artichoke, aubergine and hispi cabbage particularly were standout. And the flatbread - how was it possible for it to be so good?! I wish I could eat it all every day forever. Cocktails were incredible - the non-alcoholic ones also felt like just as much of a treat, which is rare. Finally, the staff were also absolutely lovely and super helpful and attentive to us in every way. Also, shout out to their extreme patience when dealing with a very antagonistic couple seated near us. We were irritated by their behaviour and it wasn’t even directed at us! Professionalism and hospitality at its finest. We’ll be back as soon as we possibly can. Please never take the flatbread and artichokes off of the menu x

Today was not looking to be a good day, most of all because I had to venture out to Brighton. So what a nice surprise it was to stumble across this little gem. Great food, great (V friendly) service and excellently located in a nice secluded backstreet. Good outside seating too, for all fellow smokers. Highly recommend, especially for the Miso Aubergine (apparently a common favourite) and the Spring-rollesque Lamb. Thanks for turning my day around :)

First time dining and we would definitely come back very soon! The food was absolutely incredible we sat at the bar so it was lovely watching the food being made. The kitchen is run like clockwork and all the staff were so friendly. Genuinely lovely and friendly atmosphere. We can’t wait to come back!

We chose from the sharing experience menu, and loved the combination of flavours we tried. Warm and buzzy atmosphere with attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Cannot recommend highly enough. Wish we lived nearer!

I would not mind paying for quality food, but your entire menu was nothing short of a few copies of other cousins buy no real food. Overy salted, burnt, under portioned. 3 of us paid £180 and left the place, firstly disappointed, also so hungry We ended up in a local restaurant (shayan), where food is cooked with real authentic ingredients and lots of flavours... Last word: Do not advertise fake! And stop insulting ones intelligence!

Since I was there alone, I was seated at the bar, which is absolutely fine. The chairs were also comfortable and the restaurant is nicely decorated. The meal was excellent. The price is definitely on the expensive side, but worth every pound. I'd love to come back!

Sensational. Absolutely fantastic food and service. We’ve been lucky to be dining out in London all week ahead of Christmas including the Shard and Savoy. The quality of food far surpassed London with a myriad of intense flavours and choices. Would highly recommend if you’re in Brighton. Will be booking again soon. Thank you!
