Coffeetzar in Brighton and Hove

Amazing, delicious cakes and pastries! Would be good for passers-by if the labels of the different cakes in the window display can also be seen from the outside window (as well as from inside the shop too)!

Waited 20 minutes for 2x coffees, to then realize they gave us the wrong order (one of them was syrup and oat milk. They put syrup on the whole milk one). Couldn't wait any longer so had a few sips with the syrup then binned it. This was a take away order and the cafe was empty. Staff was too busy doing other things instead of serving.

A lovely little cafe, really chilled and peaceful atmosphere. Our server was friendly and kind and the food was amazing. Will definitely come back here when I’m next in Brighton

Quiet and beautiful coffee shop with sandwiches and some specials like affogato. We tried the peanut butter cookie and was pretty good :)

I've always wanted to love this place, but I can only like it. It's the cakes that draw me inside, and they always look amazing - but to eat, they can be really hit-and-miss. Certain competitors just around the corner provide more consistently good cakes - and are more reasonably priced. Coffeetzar feel expensive! So why do I come back here? Well, I love sitting in the window, people-watching or catching some sun (especially in winter etc.) I really wish they would keep up the quality of the cakes (not just the Instagram factor!), or, at least price themselves competitively...

Haven't been back here in too long... a perfect hot latte (why are so many cafés serving warm coffee?!) And many temptations. Cozy, comfortable and very warm and welcoming. A perfect place to journal.

Wonderful gluten-free cake selection in this corner cafe near the Lanes. Friendly staff. Sit in the corner window seat and watch the world go by whilst sampling the cakes.

Best spot in town for cake and a cuppa. Always lots of nice fresh cakes to choose from, as well as good savoury and drink options. Lovely to sit outside on a warm day and watch the world go by. Just off the main drag in the lanes so it's nice and relaxed too.

A review of two halves. Your food and service was overall nice, with exception to the Greek Yoghurt. If you enjoy Greek Yoghurt and have had it elsewhere, then you will have some expectations, all of which were quashed when I had their Greek Yoghurt with Honey and nuts. The portion size was disappointing. The honey amount was so meager that it seemed practically nonexistent (the teaspoon I normally put on my breakfast cereal equates to double the amount I had on my Youghurt). The nuts were minimal. I counted about 16 nut shavings (like 1 mm slices off a nut) all of which really didn't amount to much at all). In summary. Tasteless boring Greek Youghurt, with a meager/miniscule amount of Honey and slices of nuts. Not worth the money and really doesn't deserve the name Greek Yoghurt with Honey and nuts. Overpriced, cheap, disappointing.

There seems to be no limit on how many coffee shops Kemptown can sustain and this one is here to stay i think . Lovely decor , excellent friendly service & good coffee . Food looks great .

The staff is lovely, shop is beautiful but the cake serving is very small and less for the price. I wouldn’t recommend having a cake of this serving and price. However the coffee is great

Their cakes are THE BEST, and Idon is an absolute delight, always happy and accommodating. I order birthday and event cakes from him several times a year - they're delicious!

I just wanted to write a review to express how lovely my server was!!! Her name is Tippi and she was SO lovely and chatty!!! I'm a very anxious person and I struggle to leave my house and go to public places, especially to order food and drink, but Tippi was SO kind and lovely and walked me through the menu and gave recommendations and it seemed like she really cared about my anxiety and stuff <3 I hope she is having a lovely day and life and I hope the owner will let her know how good she is at her job :)

Great food, we had the piri piri chicken wrap and the salad wrap, with two oat milk mochas. Everything was delicious and the service was spot on! We were there Sunday morning and easily got a table. I really liked the rustic aesthetic 😊

As you enter Coffeetzar you are faced with a spectacular array of beautifully presented cakes and sandwiches/rolls. The service was swift and the food was of a good standard. So why only 3 ⭐️, well one of my ‘pet hates’ is when you order a tea you are presented with a mug of hot water and a tea bag at the price they charge for tea this is not acceptable. Also the place was a bit grubby around the edges, with uncleared tables and a little food debris on the floor. Resolve these issues and would definitely be 5⭐️.

Found this local coffee shop in North Laine area. Very pleased with their variety of goods from regular, vegan, and vegetarian options! Their oat milk iced latte was quite pleasant (more on the stronger side I must say). Yet their hot chocolate was quite underwhelming with it tasting similar to powdered hot chocolate. The space itself was small and would recommend going in their non-peak hours usually weekdays.

Had a bit of a moment the other week where I panicked and came in with an injured finger and the lady serving was so incredibly lovely and caring, really really appreciate it still! The food and drink here is also amazing every time, would highly recommend this place.

We had post-wedding drinks in the Walrus for 20 people. The staff were really friendly and helpful, providing great hands-on service for our party ranging from 4 months to 95 years!

We were stopping in Worthing, I asked my partner for a Sunday lunch. She found The Walrus and got us booked in. The Pub was fantastic. Proper old English pub. The Sunday lunch? Fantastic!! The duration of the wait for our main course…. not fantastic! (1.5 hours - others seated after us getting tucked in to their lunch as we looked on!). However, after drawing their attention to our deprivation, the obvious recognition of failure from the team and their solution…. they regained… Fantastic!!!! We would recommend The Walrus. If you like BIG Sunday lunches, this is the place for you!

I purchased a falafel wrap to take away for lunch. Falafel was nice but there were only 3 ingredients inside the wrap with no hummus/sauce/etc... So a bit dry. I also asked specifically for it to be fully wrapped in tinfoil 3 times as I was putting it in my backpack and despite the staff member saying she had done it, she didn't, so when I opened the paper bag at lunchtime it had somewhat fallen apart.

Nice and warm and quiet on various winter season days, with good food and drink options available at any time of day when open. Good perch seating where can see out over the street and also sit at table seating where can have lunch and other things, coffee is good in the morning and other times of day too.

Whole menu is diverse from cakes to wraps and toasties. My favourite is the Figtoria Sponge, and the special I tried yesterday (Kale, Gruyere, bacon and sausage filo pie). Great selection of drinks too, smoothies and coffees are all good. The staff also was very welcoming and made us feel at home. Would recommend.

We stood and waited trying to order a coffee, none of the 4 people behind and around the counter even acknowledged us. So we left and went to Bread and Milk just up the road, nice people, nice food and nice coffee.

Had the Coconut Brownie Cheesecake and it was excellent, coffee in the other hand was not good at all! Ordered a double espresso was watery to the point of calling it a mini-americano... And 18 GBP for 2 slices of cake, 1 juice and 1 coffee felt a bit excessive

Highly disappointing. Ordered an iced mocha and a lemon and raspberry polenta cake; the coffee was lukewarm and the cake was stale. I also ordered an iced lemon and ginger tea on my previous visit (cake was ok that time hence why I came back) and it tasted of nothing - basically paid over £3 for a glass of plain water. Decor is nice but that doesn’t make up for the terrible food and drink. I will not be revisiting and would not recommend to anyone.

Came here this morning as I was hungry after an appointment and was greeted by a lovely chap. As a coeliac on a strict gluten free diet it’s hard to eat anywhere but I was surprised to hear there were tons of options. The coffee and cakes were superb, had great decor and chilled music to add. Great service too. Would come again

I came in on Sunday afternoon and was served by two lovely girls. They were very friendly, served me a great latte and took the time to talk me through all the amazing food options on offer - I had the carrot cake which was a perfect addition to my Sunday!!

Amazing array of delicious cakes - catering to everyone's dietary requirements. Go there hungry as slices are large and the man who runs it/owns it is always a delight.

A lot of the huge numbers of people who wander down Trafalgar Street stop and peer into the window of Coffee Tsar, with lots of cakes and sweet treats on display - which are just as good as they look. Inside, you'll find lots of great savoury food as well, much of it Greek-inspired. Coffee and smoothies are very good, and if you do manage to find a seat inside or on the pavement outside it's a great place for watching the world go by. It is very small, though, so a weekday visit is probably best if you want to sit and relax for a while.

Lovely space and Beautiful food but at high prices. £5 slice of cake and £7.50 for a small portion of 2 falafels and a little bulgarwheat is too expensive for me. Good luck to you.

Great tasting coffee and lovely savoury treats.

Love it here - it has become my go to for an afternoon coffee and cake sat outside and watching people go by. I’ve tried most of them and would say the cakes are a little on the bland/ sweet side although they look amazing. I prefer fresh cream but appreciate it doesn’t keep as well. Lunch options are tasty and the coffee is perfect.

We had a quick meet up at this coffee shop...which ended up to be 3 hours in the end...why?!..this place ..apart from the wonderful coffee..and superb line of desserts...the staff had such friendly aura...they made sure that everyone felt welcome..(sad that it had very little space)..but I would definitely recommend this cafe and I certainly come back next time..Bravo,folks!

Disappointed. Reading the good reviews we decided to pop in for a light lunch. Food was microwaved and soggy, the pulled pork and chip bun was just about edible if you take the chips out. Shame because it looks lovely, nicely presented and the food would have tasted good if fresh or reheated in an oven or grill rather than microwave. It's a good job we were cold and hungry and the tea was good or would have left without eating.

(Changed from 1 star to 3 as owner offered money back and apologised for oven not working ) Staff were lovely but the food was horrible enough to warrant a one star review, I had Instant regret after ordering the pulled pork burger & chips(3chips) which were microwaved and sad. We had a cup of tea which was nice and well presented.

The food looked delicious, but we only had time for a hot drink. Maybe next time. The people were very kind and thoughtful. The seating was continental bar style.

Carrot cake was tasty but the portion size was way too small for what you charge. I don't expect a massive slab but this was just silly. I've worked in catering for a long time and guessing this was a mistake which is why I've given you three and not two stars.

Stopped for a quick coffee and a slice of cake on the way back from the beach. Nice vibes, friendly staff and excellent cake and coffee, some of the savouries looked great too!

Imagine I went here a few years ago with my brother and to this day I haven't had a better Latte. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Really made me feel like all my problems went away. P.S i'm still thinking about this place.

After being introduced to this little coffee shop by a friend of mine, it has quickly become one of my favourite spots in Brighton. Not only are the staff incredibly friendly and attentive, even when busy you always receive the same standard of service. The coffee is always incredible and their selection of cakes has something for everyone. I find myself coming into this coffee shop a minimum of once a week. It truly has such a lovely family run vibe and I find myself recommending it as one of my favourite spots in Brighton.

Ordered two ice lattes, a regular latte and a milkshake. Only people there at 20 mins we are still awaiting….. horrendous service. Don’t bother!!

Delicious Mocka and Vegetable Tarn

I love this cafe....it is bright and clean. The coffee is good and the food fresh and interesting. The cafe is small but great for a shopping break or if you need some quiet time to read the paper or just have a break.

Nice looking place with a decent selection of sweet and savory dishes, unfortunately service can be very slow even when the place is not busy.

We stumbled on this little gem whilst have a quiet stroll through the iconic North Laine, just moments down the hill from Brighton Station. We saw the window display with a delicious selection of treats we simply had to go in. The guy working behind the counter was absolutely lovely and chatty...but beware even just a look at there arrat of delectable savoury and sweet treats and you will need to buy some (as we did). 😋

Nice and cozy cafe! It was hard to choose which slice of cake to have! I went for the white chocolate and Peanut butter! It's a little bit pricey but it was delicious. A real treat. Definitely, I'll return. I want try other cakes!! The man who served us was very friendly!

We stopped for coffee late on Friday afternoon . The barista was working alone and as customers started arriving to place orders in the final hour of opening , she was helpful , delightful and energetic in her response . She politely reminded us all of the Covid safety rules . She served delicious coffee - we stayed for a second unplanned cup . She recommended cakes and pastries and was very patient with a complex allergy enquiry bu one customer . She deserves a pay rise !! Brilliant employee

I called in for a coffee and slice of cake, I can't remember the flavour of the cake but it was multi layered with pineapple and coconut layers included, it was delicious. I'd thoroughly recommend a visit if you are close by. Thank you for a memorable visit .

Small but nice café, good smoothies & coffee, feta pie was pretty good too. Spinach pie needed more cheese and less spinach for a better balance. Waitress wasn't very friendly and when we asked for a peanut butter cookie, she brought us the smallest one out of the bu ch, not happy about that as it was quite tasty and we were sharing it so we could do with a bigger one. Everything was expensive, but that's more or less the case with everything in Brighton.

Oh my, what a feast for the eyes. We went mid morning and I so wanted to return for lunch and afternoon tea. I had Greek yoghurt with sour cherries and almonds. So yummy. Staff were so friendly and helpful.

Went for cake and left disillusioned by my overpriced dessert. After asking for a moist pudding, we were disappointed to find our lemon, physalis and blueberry cake was remarkably dry. Safety measures also weren’t in place as our server used their face mask as a chin strap. Despite their lack of PPE training they were extremely friendly and happy to answer our questions - would consider coming back if nowhere else was open.

Lovely milkshakes & cakes and the staff are so friendly! Reasonably priced too for the area, would go back to this one everytime :)

Brilliant coffee and a lovely selection of cakes savouries

I came here with my girlfriend to enjoy some chill out time. We enjoyed the coffee and liked the fact it offered a variety of cakes. Overall service is great. The cakes were a little dry but it’s a small thing to a midget.

Delicious cakes and I really enjoyed their coffee. My girlfriend really like her chai latte which apparently is rare in Brighton as they tend to be glasses of mainly frothy milk.

Went here after a day of christmas shopping and ordered the hot chocolate, which was the best I’ve ever had! Very friendly staff and good price. 10/10 would recommend.

A nice small and cosy cafe place in a good location, in the lanes. The coffee is really good and they do iced coffee too for the hot days! Good thing is they make these tasty bites, cakes, pies, even traditional greek pies like mpougatsa. Lovely atmosphere inside. I will visit again.
