Nice surroundings. Very pricy. Manageress is very rude, never smiles or polite to customers. Customers made to feel unwanted. Whole atmosphere is cold and uninviting. Seems that if you aren't personal friends or family of the staff, you are treated with contempt. They seem to favour women and children over men. The coffee is very dry and bitter tasting so needs lots of sugar to make it palatable . The food is nothing special and scones and jam tastes shop bought not home made. This place seems to think it is in Mayfair London rather than a working class area of Derbyshire. Will never come here again.

This was my first visit and will be repeating it. The drinks and food were very good, as was the atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Popped out for a light lunch today with a good friend. Made at Number 18 fitted the bill of a great place to lunch. I ordered a salad with warm pear, warm beetroot and Goats cheese and asked that any salad dressing be served on the side separately as I didn’t want the flavours overwhelming the delicate flavours. It was perfect, with nice varieties of lettuce, chopped tomatoes and cucumber with chickpeas in the salad. I didn’t need any of the dressing, although my friend who had quiche with side salad and a side of fries used some of it and said it was very nice. Service was very prompt and the staff were very pleasant and it was reasonably priced too. Would certainly recommend this delightful independent cafe/ restaurant to friends and family, and will return again. Tables were spaced well. Toilets were nice and clean with everything you’d expect provided.

Fabulous place, lovely staff that were very professional and friendly. Nothing too much trouble. Well cooked food and good portions. Our poached eggs were cooked to perfection and everything was very reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Thank you for our lovely breakfast.

Lovely lunch catching up with a good friend. Cafe was busy but staff very helpful and didn’t feel rushed at all. Food was very tasty - good choices for all tastes.

Went there for a Sunday morning breakfast and we all enjoyed every bite. Fantastic service, no shortage of bacon and everything was good quality, will definitely come back.

We decided to have breakfast this morning and sat outside in the beautiful terrace garden, I had the Sunkissed tomato sourdough which was delicious and my husband had the Full Derbyshire, I’d strongly recommend booking as they do get very busy, the food is great quality and the staff are always so friendly and helpful.

Reserved a table outside with our 3 Golden Retriever’s, so impressed with the place. Lovely service from Angie & Grace, Halloumi, sundried tomatoes & poached egg on sour dough was delicious, coffee also excellent. Dog bowl, treats available. A gorgeous place for a get together, highly recommend..

I found this cafe which is located just off the main street a few years ago and was very pleased to see it still exists. I came in with friends for morning coffee and we enjoyed it in their rear garden. My flat white was excellent.

Overpriced for what it is. Quiche warmed up in microwave. Very basic salad. I did tell waitress and nothing was done about.

Popped in on the off chance as dropped my sister off at refine around the corner. Absolutely stunning little cafe. Decor is beautiful and the coffee is amazing real tasty coffee and made well! My partner had the full Derbyshire and I had the shakshouka. Both meals were piping hot and absolutely delicious! The goats cheese in the shakshouka was grilled perfectly and added that little something extra to the dish! Reasonably priced for the quality and will definitely return for another brekkie or brunch! Service was with smiles and friendly staff and a warm welcome upon entering! 5*

Called in on a Saturday for lunch, was very busy, managed to get a table after a 10 minute wait, we went for the drunken cheese rarebit served with boozy onions topped with cheese on sourdough toast, it was delicious, coffee was lovely too, we then shared the courgette an lime cake and caramel shortbread which again were lovely. The place is lovely and homely, the staff were nice and friendly, will definitely visit again.

We have been to this great little coffee shop loads of times this year and love their coffee and food. So disapointed when we went there today at 11.40 and were asked if we were eating we said we wanted a snack lunch. Their breakfast...

Ordered farmhouse toasted bread and butter but the toast was only a tasteless packaged thick sliced loaf that had hardly been toasted .I would expect a lot more from a cosy cafe .

Ordered a picnic for a catch up with a friend. Owner very obliging and helpful. Lovely selection of both vege and meat options. Sandwiches, crudities, dips, fruit skewers and a gorgeous Oreo brownie. Would definitely recommend and love to do again!

Last night we had an fantastic evening at Made at No 18. It was one of their Christmas bistro evenings. The 3 course meal was excellent, best Christmas meal I've had at a restaurant . Thanks to all the staff.

After having amazing lunch last time we paid a visit I thought it would be nice for my friends and I to try out the breakfast. We decided to go all out and have a Full Derbyshire! We made a good choice and thoroughly enjoyed our food, it was so tasty, how we managed to eat it all I’ll never know! The service was very efficient and friendly and our coffees tasted great. We had no room for cake or scones but vowed to be back soon to try them as they looked so nice. Thank you for another lovely experience.

Terrible. My order came out wrong twice then it was that soaked in Greece it couldn’t be eaten. I was so looking forward to it as I’ve been before and it was lovely. Meant when I did try and eat it my mum had already eaten most of hers.

Called in today for a breakfast, usual high standard & pleasant staff, Angie was her usual busy self, but always time to say hello. Had a full English, was really nice, set me up for the day, can’t understand why the reviewer gave it one star, if you have a problem, then mention it at the time, don’t run home & hide behind a keyboard writing a bad review, if the staff aren’t aware, then what can they do....always good food here, never had cause to complain.

It’s our second visit recently. The first being for a very nice breakfast. The food was filling, hot and well presented. Today we popped in for a gift voucher and spotted the Victoria sandwich and mince pies so stayed for a coffee and cake. It’s a lovely place, cosy, friendly with a great atmosphere. A warm welcome, and a chat with my hairdresser! Great place, just what Alfreton needs x

Gorgeous and very tasty, thoroughly recommend. Selection was good and great coffee. Though parking can be difficult.

Called in here for breakfast and chose the 'Eggs Benedict' from the list. Initially I thought the asking price was a tad expensive for a breakfast item, but I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. There were two halves of an English muffin with very good quality bacon on top of each, both were adorned with two perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs and Hollandaise sauce. The meal was perfect if there were any niggles at all I would say that the menu could do with telling you what flavours they provide to go with any coffee you order, as it just mentions how much they cost not what flavours they do. This is a small niggle and all in all I would highly recommend paying a visit, service was polite and quick at this small but great place.

I came for a particular item on the breakfast menu (poached egg, avocado and halloumi on muffin) and wasn't disappointed. This, and the eggs benedict were delicious. Good coffee too! We felt rude not to also try the marmalade cake too (also great, and tasted of marmalade rather than just orange). There was a nice atmosphere in the cafe and both the staff and the locals made us feel very welcome. Thank you again

I have visited this establishment on a few occasions, the staff always pleasant & attentive, I am on first name terms with Angie, what a fantastic asset to the place she is, such a pleasure to see her, even when she’s run off her feet, she still finds time to talk.

Having completed our morning’s business in the town, we felt in need of a caffeine fix, and spotted this café just across the road near the war memorial. Some of the seating seemed rather too close together, but we managed to squeeze in, and enjoyed a nice coffee. The cakes on offer looked good too, but – a pity – we didn’t need to eat on this occasion.

Three friends and I popped in for lunch and had such an amazing time. The cafe is beautiful, (could easily be situated in York) friendly greeting as soon as we walked in and were shown to our tables and given Menus, love the fact that they do full table service. It was a hot day so the waitress asked if we’d like a cold drink while we browsed the menu. We were all spoilt for choice but decided on homemade quiche, steak and stilton ciabatta and the salmon salad. The presentation of the food is stunning and tasted amazing. The waitress asked if we’d enjoyed our meals then asked if we’d like a slice of cake or a scone with clotted cream and jam, although we were very tempted we were all so full we had to turn the treats down this time but we will definitely be back maybe for a cheeky gin in the outside terrace. Highly recommend this cafe and can’t wait to visit again.

Struggled to stand at counter to wait to be served

Arrived after breakfast... Wanting breakfast with gluten free requirements! They were more than happy to assist and supplied me with a gorgeous concoction of sausages, bacon, eggs, cheese and bread (instead of an oatcake as per the menu) amazing presentation and the quality and quantity were superb... Will definately return!

Lovely little find just off the high street with incredibly friendly and warm staff. It was quite busy and seemed the place to go to meet with friends if you’re local. The breakfast was hearty with good portions that were well presented and generous.

Went to Made for lunch with my friend. The atmosphere is lovely an relaxed. The menu is so hard to choose from as everything is delicious.

Sat outside in the lovely courtyard, which is a wonderful little sun trap. The food was delicious I had homemade quiche and salad. I have eaten here before and had panini. Both times I really enjoyed it.

This cafe is just off the beaten track close to the main crossroads in Alfreton. I only found it by chance. They do coffee, cake, food and alcoholic drinks. It is a very comfortable place to sit and the coffee I had was very nice.

A friend took me here today for lunch. It really wasn’t what I was expecting for Alfreton and was a hidden little gem.

After not knowing this place existed a week ago I have now been three times in a week! First on a Saturday morning for breakfast with my partner. Lovely breakfast and the waitress (Ella) was so friendly and helpful even though she was busy she still took the time to talk to us. I then came with my friends during the week. Again the service and food was excellent, this time we were served by David, who went out of his way to make my friends little boy of 4 years old feel welcome. On Friday I came back with my partner for the film night and we loved it! The film was shown in a quaint stable converted for the occasion. There was an interval in the film, at which point we had our pre ordered drinks waiting for us on the table. All of the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and it was a truly lovely evening. The home made cakes are lovely too! We will definitely be returning soon.

Nowhere near that compares to the quality and place. Coffee perfect for a complete coffee snob... And an amazing, great quality, local butcher, properly poached eggs and beautiful bread breakfast... All quickly served, with friendly staff Just great.. Make sure you book!

Thought we’d try somewhere new for lunch. The room is a bit snug with people constantly banging Into you as they try and navigate around the place. Decor is nice and gives out a good vibe though the rest room could be thought out a bit better. Cheap hand wash and unhygienic communal hand towel to share with all the other patrons!! The poor woman serving was left to do everything, though during quiet times this might work ok, not at peak lunch time trade. She was left to take orders, clean tables, serve food, serve drinks and take payments resulting in forgetting orders. Food took ages to arrive. Not sure how long an homemade quiche and a sandwich takes to prepare! (Sandwich had a filling missing but didn’t want to complain as the poor waitress was run ragged)

Very limited seating but everything is excellent. The upstairs out the back kind of barn thing has live music at weekends and even transforms into a cinema!

Met a friend for lunch and had the soup and cheese scone - delicious. Bike friendly as the owner said I could lock up my road bike in the Courtyard at the back. Relaxed atmosphere and just a great vibe!

Hi All, First visit to catch up with old friends. Very pleasant surroundings and friendly welcome. Service was excellent and the cappucino was amazing. A lovely variety on the menu and extremely good value for money. Well worth a visit.

We went here for what the owners call a Bistro evening. They don't routinely open in the evening I think. So these evenings are all bookings only. We had a really great evening. The food was absolutely outstanding. It was way better than I was expecting. There was also a nice surprise that there was a live band put on as part of the evening although I think the evening needed to promote this better as it was very low key in the blurb and could have been easily missed by some diners as the band was playing in a little annexe type building at the back of the restaurant. We will definitely come to more of these Bistro evenings.

This local cafe, M.A.D.E. @ No. 18, in nondescript Alfreton in the heart of the East Midlands, has had a bit of a makeover since I last visited. The transformation has taken it from shabby chic (with a hint of eccentricity), to vintage chic (with a decent hint of style). I last reviewed it not long after it opened in 2014, and it continues to maintain its place in the hearts of the locals. I liked the makeover; the addition of some large (and wonderful) old photographs of Alfreton; the removal of some of the clutter, the sage green walls to compliment the exposed brick, and a more comfortable seating and table arrangement. It’s improved the overall ambiance of the cafe. It now epitomises its name: Made at Alfreton Derbyshire England @ No. 18.

Stopped by here for lunch on a whim. Lovely friendly atmosphere and fantastic food. Also love the quirkiness of the place. Will definitely be returning.

My wife and I simply love this place, unfortunately we don't get in as much as we'd like, but given the chance it's our preferred place to enjoy the coffee and food which is always delicious.

A great little café/bistro in Alfreton. The quiche is always excellent and we've recently been to a gin and cocktail tasting evening which was great fun - David was very entertaining!

My husband and I went for lunch last week on our wedding aniversary. The whole experience was lovely. We both had the steak sandwich mine with Cheddar and my husbands with Stilton, they were lovely - my husband even described his as "an epic steak sandwich".

Called in for an early lunch, wasn’t sure what to expect because the inside of the cafe has a slightly eccentric look. Shouldn’t have worried, the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. The portions are very generous and the prices are a bargain. Wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.

I've been using Made @ no 18 for several years for lunch or just a coffee and a cake and always enjoy my visits. The food is consistently delicious the service is always very attentive and my dog (who's well behaved) is also made very welcome.

Came across this cafe by chance when visiting the local health centre. Every now and again there is nothing that beats a traditional english breakfast so we were enticed inside in pursuit of this classic dish. We were surprised to find that mine host had put a new slant on delivering this dish by putting it into a ciabatta. It came and was absolutely fab! loved it. The meal was fresh and full of flavour and a very generous portion, couldn't eat it all but really enjoyed the experience. Certainly go back again when in town and looking for something to eat.

Loved my treat of fish finger ciabatta and chips. All home made and delicious in every way. Id definitely visit again based on the food quality. You get what you pay for here and the food is delicious. Service was quick and friendly even though it was very busy.

Been here twice now and have enjoyed it both times. The gentlemen that works on the till is always very friendly and helpful. They always have a good selection of cakes and scones including gluten free options. Coffee is nice and seating areas are nice inside and outside on a sunny day.

The food here is so delicious. It is freshly made and home cooked. The cakes and scones are to die for too. Nothing is too much trouble for David and his staff. We visit weekly lol.

Met a friend for lunch. We both had a flat bread that came with a small salad. Both were nice but pricey we thought at £7 odd pound. Cakes looked nice when I went to pay.

Surprised to find what we thought would be a decent bistro style restaurant in the middle of Alfreton. We therefore visited for a lunch with high hopes. Cut to the chase, homemade milkshakes, described as ice cream millshakes on the receipt, do in fact contain no ice cream and was sadly just milk and nesquick. We even watched them make it. Homemade is stretching It. A shame because a blender, ice cream and some frozen fruit could do wonders for them. The waiter and maybe owner was busy as it was lunchtime but the attention to detail was lacking. Cutlery just dropped on the table and no follow up asking if the food was ok. If you are paying £8 or £9 each for what is basically a posh sandwich and chips from a place aiming at the premium end of the market then you expect some sort of care and attention to detail. I am sad to say this place doesn’t appear have it. The main meals were just ok. Average. Nothing special.

Came here especially to meet my friend as they advertise they serve soya milk - when the lady came to take our order she advised they didn't have any soya milk 'in'.. The place looked lovely and I'm sure the food is great but I was just a bit disappointed.

Visited the cafe with young children for lunch. Bit of a mistake. Beautifully decorated in an arty, shabby chic way we had been looking forward to a visit and the decor did not disappoint. However, we found inside to be very cramped and not particularly wheelchair or pushchair friendly. There is very little space (don't take the buggy) It was clear early on that the children were tolerated rather than welcome, not in a rude way, they're just obviously more used to older clientele. Food was ok, a little over priced for what it was and although it was presented ok it wasn't the best lunch I've ever enjoyed and I left quite a lot of it. My older daughter (6) chose soup and although it was stated that any meal could be a child's meal, she was bought (and I was charged for) an adult portion which she had no chance of finishing, she left over half a bowl, which again felt wasteful. Drinks are expensive and not all drinks advertised on the website are available, as apparently certain drinks are seasonal. Sadly, overall I was rather glad to leave and will not be in a rush to return.

Been here a couple of times now but Best for dinner on a music night , food is amazing and very well prices,service is great and go into the back barn and listen to some local talent or band finishes the night of perfectly !! An absolute gem of a place

Positives are a quaint building and home cooked food. Only been once and therefore would rate as average as it was. Homemade chips had a funny aftertaste probably due to the cooking oil used. Give it a go and support a local business

Went to the cocktail and canapés night, which I can definitely recommend as it was a brilliant night out. The canapés are lovely and very filling. We worked our way down the cocktail menu and can recommend the porn star martinis which were phenomenal, followed closely by their signature OMG cocktail. It’s a lovely looking place, individually styled and has a great atmosphere. The staff are all very friendly, efficient and helpful. We will definitely be coming back and will keep an eye out for whatever other special evenings you may do.

I have visited a few times now fr lunch, afternoon tea and even Christmas Eve for Carols, mulled wine and mince pies. Food is always fab and the service is brilliant. So friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend.

Arrived at 11am for a brief meeting with a business associate, tables had not been cleared and were covered in crumbs and a sticky substance (jam or honey or worse). Waited for nearly ten minutes and when it was suggested that the table might be cleared and wiped down the owner responded in an arrogant, patronising manner and when challenged threw an extremely unreasonable queeny hissy fit. We voted with our feet and went to Louby's. Will never return and can not recommend this pretensious, rustic (run down and dowdy) hovel, which is clearly trying to be something far better than it clearly is.

I had the full Derbyshire and my wife had the scrambled egg. It was delicious we both really enjoyed it. Very friendly staff. We will be back very soon, i can only recommend this place.If you haven't tried it , then give it a go you wont be disappointed.

Popped in for lunch. Very quirky inside. I had the flatbread with chicken bacon avocado and brie. It was great. My husband had the ciabatta with homemade fish fingers which he loved. Thought the drinks were quite expensive but the food tasted great. Would defo go again x

Having just arrived in Alfreton we walked up to the high street and visited. Staff were very friendly and we had a very nice cup of coffee and what we saw of the food being served we will be going back for more than a coffee.

Visited couple of days ago for a quick bite and a drink with a friend. Food was lovely matched by fantastic service and quaint and quirky decor. Just my type of place. Reasonable pricing and the outside area is lovely to sit out with your drink in the sun. the only thing I may suggest is putting the grass area to use with some more seating or blankets to sit on?

Called in today while out walking with a friend only had two coffee but was very impressed with the decor and friendly atmosphere, we will definitely be returning and hope to attend one of their live music evening later on in the year. Would recommend to anyone.

I attended along with family and friends for my wifes birthday and and although the back room/stables don't look a lot it was a great place to have the party. We ate inside the main cafe area and all of the food produced was very tasty and good quality. Bottles of wine wine were a decent price coming in at £12 and the band recomended by David the proprietor were very good and unbeleivably good value for money. I will definitely go back for coffee and cakes when in the area and David is planning some Bistro nights in the future. I also noticed that a gin tasting evening is coming up soon which my wife can definitely recommend. All in alll a very good night for all.

My boyfriend and I received £30 voucher for a gift from my son and his fiance to go to Made@18. We booked for a Saturday evening, 18 April for 7.30 but when we turned up the restaurant was closed! I rang on the Monday afternoon to lodge a complaint and was told by the member of staff that all she could do was apologise. I asked to speak to the manager/owner but was told he had 'popped out' and could I ring back! No,I told her, as I thought I'd been inconvenienced enough and could she get him to ring me on his return. She said she'd ask him. I left my details. No one bothered to ring me back which I thought was extremely discourteous. This has hurt four people: my boyfriend, myself and my son and his fiance who bought the vouchers in the first place. Won't be visiting again!!!

Such a lovely little place. The way it's been transformed from its previous life as a pet shop is brilliant. Always a good choice for breakfast and was an ideal place for me to meet some friends and family for breakfast on my birthday morning.
