Awful rude manager who speaks terribly to her minimum wage young staff! Like going back to war time! Uses really disrespectful language, heard her say to a black member of staff he was stupid and had no brain, absolutely awful wanted to leave right there and then felt so sorry for him!

We really enjoyed our leisurely lunch here yesterday. Worth a visit just for the savoury cream tea. The cheese scones were delicious, better than the National Trust ones. Good food friendly service.

Had the displeasure of meeting the owner / manager. Extremely rude and disrespectful. Treats her staff badly and when I called to tell her about my unhappy experience she was even ruder. Won’t go again and wouldn’t recommend

A lovely community cafe, with welcoming staff. Our lunch was really good value for money. Homemade soups and cakes.

Food and drink were a fair price and nice. Didn't enjoy the atmosphere as we felt pushed out of our seat by regulars who meet there. Went into the back children's room, which is a great idea, but could be cleaner. I gave a dummy to my baby to prevent him from eating the scattered bits of food on the floor and under sofa. When serving us the lady was very friendly to little one but pulled the dummy out of his mouth, handed it to me and said "isn't that better". When she left I put in back in (as he was still trying to eat food from the floor). When she came back she saw the dummy, pulled a face and said "What's that nasty thing doing back?" It was very uncomfortable, and the unnecessary judgement made it so I won't be returning. Still 3 /5 because the these things were out of the owners control, but can't ignore the negative experience.

Went for breakfast on a rainy day, so unfortunately didn’t sit in the garden. It really is like a secret garden so I recommend you do if you visit in more clement weather :) The owner and staff are really friendly and the menu caters for vegans. I had a lovely vegan breakfast and my partner had the meat version. We both enjoyed our meals and the coffee was lovely. You’ll find there is plenty to look at with a range of arts and crafts adorning the space. If you’re looking for a kid friendly place, it has a huge play room full of toys. If you have a dog, it’s dog friendly too! They really have thought of everything. Perfect to stop off at on your way to the river gardens 👍

Lovely warm welcome on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Fresh sandwiches and cakes. Nice leaf tea in proper china cups. Highly recommend. My 5 year old son loved the kids play area. We also had cream tea with warm fruit scones. Dog friendly. Very clean. We would recommend to others visiting the area.

We came here for breakfast when it first opened and unfortunately were not impressed. We thought we'd give it another go today. I ordered a veggie breakfast with white toast and very well done eggs as I can't stand sloppy eggs. The eggs were undercooked, even the white was sloppy. And the toast was malt not white. The rest of the breakfast was not very warm either. The table next to us were complaining about the wait as they sat for a long time without being acknowledged. The young man behind the counter did knock off the cost of the latte as an apology so appreciated that but really sorry to say that we won't be going back. Maybe we came on a bad day? I know this cafe does a lot for the community so I encourage everyone to give it a visit but just not for me I'm afraid.

Came to grab some lunch with my husband on a lunch break. Ordered a tuna sandwich with the tortilla chips, but asked for no salad or coleslaw. Arrived 5 minutes later, with salad and coleslaw, no chips. I pointed this out and the woman said “well I’ve got no tortilla chips”. Why was nothing said when ordering then? Husbands toastie came completely plain, no salad or coleslaw at all (I was able to give him mine at least). So we’ve paid almost £10 for 2 plain sandwiches…we could have gone to Tesco for a meal deal for 40p more. Very disappointing from what I know is a rated tea shop in Belper.

Very pleased to find Dot-teas Emporium, called for lunch today, a lovely heartwarming carrot and coriander soup followed by a shortbread for my husband and a rocky road for myself and tea for two, owner's young son serving tables and sanitizing tables, chairs and menus after every customer, nice and clean looked a good play area too - hope to call again, wish we could call later this week as they will be making a Biscoff cheesecake!

Me and my friend have frequented Dot-teas for over a year now. We are not local but we find it worth the drive because the staff are friendly with a community spirit and they have always made us feel welcome. There is a car park next door and it is within walking distance of the town centre in one directiion and the River Gardens/Mills in the other. If you dont fancy anything in particular on the menu Donna who runs the cafe will go 'Off Menu' if possible. There is a pleasant garden area with seating to the rear of the building. My personal opinion - Well worth a visit.

I would like to say a huge thank you for helping me yesterday when I fell over opposite your cafe. The staff, especially Hayley, were amazing and so kind helping me into the cafe and providing an ice pack and drink of water. They allowed me to sit there as long as I wanted. By the way the coffee and cakes they serve are amazing! Thank you so much.

I called by for a quick breakfast sandwich takeaway before work. I wanted to spend at a local independent business and try somewhere new. I wish I hadn’t picked here… I ordered a sausage sandwich for £3 and chucked it straight in the bin after one bite. Chewy microwaved pre-cooked sausages on cheap white bread with a measly bit of ketchup. I wouldn’t even pay 50p for that. The owners should be ashamed of this… if this is the usual standard of food I’d expect them to be closed down soon.

The food is excellent and so are the staff. It is a very friendly country style cafe with a homely feel. Their breakfasts are fab. So are their dinners and a great choice of deserts. Their pies are fab nice and meaty with no fat. Served with whatever you want. However, with their special potatoes & peas they are lovely. There is a great choice of food and it is all home made. Claire and family who run it are so nice and they are very attentive and helpful. We call it our local and we would not go anywhere else. Well done to all the staff.

The foods actually really good and it’s got a lovely garden area, just the service needs sorting out as it was terrible. It wasn’t particularly busy but it really took a long time. We visited a few weeks later, only to have to wait even longer to be served and then after receiving drinks and and placing our food order was told it was a 1h wait for food, would of been nice to have been advised about the food wait times as we where seated or when placing our drinks order. Hopefully management turn it around soon.
