Two old ladies looking for a cuppa and something nice to avoid going straight home after Church have tried most cafes and tea rooms in the area south of Derby. When we found the Mad Hatter, we knew our prayers had been answered. Cute, cozey tea room with canal-side area that can cope with all but the worst weather. There are even wasp traps so the stingers leave the customers in peace. The menu is adaptable to any diet and the Staff could not be nicer or more helpful. Given that the food is prepared to order and REALLY great, what more can you want? Car parking? Not a problem !

Visited for brunch with family. We arrived at just the right time and got a table for 5 , as shortly after it was full, although seating is available outside as well. ordered a five items breakfast , 8 item breakfast and 12 item breakfast, which also all come with a slice of white or brown toast and butter. All were absolutely delicious and not a scrap was left. Not greasy at all which some cooked breakfasts can be at some places, and the bacon nice and crispy . There was not a peep out of my sons as they were eating, and they have been talking about how good the breakfast was the the day after as well! My parents had a toastie and a panini which came with a lovely salad garnish too. They concurred that theirs were equally as delicious. Service was friendly and efficient too. Definitely the top place for breakfast locally and looking forward to a return visit

Ordered a breakfast and to be fair was told that the microwave had failed so no scrambled egg, baked beans, tomatoes or mushrooms were available. We went ahead and ordered fried stuff to make up a breakfast. We twice reminded staff that we had not received our hot drinks but they didn't appear. After 55 minutes from the order time I asked for a refund for the drinks. On the way out I spoke to the owner who was outside chatting to customers and having a cigarette and told her about the situation and she immediately blamed the "new staff". It was a poor excuse, a shame because we are regular customers and did like going there

From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were on holiday!! Outdoor surroundings had beautiful straw roof huts if you wanted to sit in the shade, or there were many other areas to choose where you can watch beautiful canel boats meandering down the canel & a variety of waterfowels enjoying a swim in the sunshine. We were sat near to the canel & enjoyed loved watching three canel boats & some geese pasd by! When we entered the tea room, we were met by a super friendly lady (I think she said her name was Sue - sori if I'm mistaken ♡), she was so warm & inviting & more than happy for us to choose our own cups for our large hot chocolates 😋 She took time to go explain what cakes where on display. We were spoilt for choice!! Great value for money for a good size portion!! Our drinks & cakes were brought out with a smile by 'Sue'. It was lovely to watch how equally bright & cheerful she was with all the other customers! She made us feel so at home!! I'd recommend this jewl in the crown to anyone looking for that 'Home from Home' warm & friendly atmosphere, stunning views & heavenly cakes! 😋 Definitely worth 5 stars 🌟🌟 🌟🌟🌟

First visit for coffee and cake. Definitely will return for a breakfast seeing the plates coming out of the kitchen. Only thing that did do my head in is all the clocks at different times. But it adds to ambiance of the Alice in Wonderland theme. 😂 Well done 👍🏻

My wife and I found this little gem whilst walking along the Trent and Mersey Canal. We dropped in for lunch and were served by really cheerful and friendly staff. The premises looked immaculately clean. We ordered sandwiches and tea. When the sandwiches arrived, they were clearly freshly made with lots of fillings and very tasty. The tea came in a big pot and we could have two or three cups of tea. We sat near the canal side and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Definitely recommended. Definitely be revisiting.

To all walkers, cyclists and country lane drivers this is a brilliant tea room. Inside or out plenty of tables, outside is next to the canal so extremely relaxing. Plenty of space to park bikes. The drinks and especially the cakes are awesome ( what I call a builder's size piece of cake so very generous) at a great price. The ladies who work there are friendly .

I walk past this cafe most days and decided to go in and order their ploughman’s as a treat. I ordered one day and collected the next. They had it ready for me and opened the box for me to check it before handing it over. The food was fresh and tasty. There’s plenty and I ended up saving the cheese and biscuits for the following day. It does come with a pot of mustard and tomatoes but I don’t like either so not to include them.

WE WANT MANDY BACK! Mandy was coming in the truck for quite some time and built up a great rapport with the staff here, always had a great selection of food to choose from, since she has been moved off this stop, there doesn't ever seem to be cheese on toast! Mandy would go above and beyond to ensure if she didn't have it at breakfast stop she would bring it on the lunch stop! we miss you. keep being you and doing a great job!

Unfortunately, our birthday meal at this restaurant was quite disappointing. After receiving our starter, the main course took over 30 minutes to arrive. The service was slow all evening and, when asked about our meal, our comments seemed to go unheard. The server's disingenuous response and the added service charge only added to our frustration. I emailed the restaurant afterward and was simply told they would inform the chef. This is fairly poor service for the price we paid, comparable to a fast-food experience. Very disappointing. I won’t be back to this restaurant or any other ls in the group anytime soon
