MacSorleys in Glasgow City

Nice old style pub with good selection of beers and live music. We had really good lunch here. Great food options on the menu, food is tasty and service was very friendly. A fantastic venue with great atmosphere.

Recientemente visité Macsorleys y puedo decir que disfruté mucho de mi experiencia. Los estándares de limpieza eran altos y no decepcionaron. Me sentí muy seguro, el personal fue profesional en todo momento y aun así me las arreglé para pasar un buen rato con mis amigos. Cada vez que visito Mac Sorleys es la misma experiencia. . . . excelente personal del bar, música en vivo aún mejor, pero al final de la noche el portero es grosero y desagradable en un esfuerzo por despejar el bar. Necesita un "trasplante de personalidad" porque no tienes que ser grosero o agresivo para alentar a los clientes a que dejen de beber y salgan de las instalaciones.

Popped in for a drink randomly when visiting with friends from Edinburgh and had a great time with the live bands and rock 'n roll!!! Great prices and atmosphere too :) Definitely going back.

A very nice pub with good , beer, and music. We throughly enjoyed the evening. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the brews and made some valuable recommendations. A good place to visit. Mike grrr from Ohio

My mother and I are in Glasgow for my 20th birthday. We heard the live music from our hotel and were immediately drawn towards it. Above the bar, there was a chalkboard wall with drink recommendations ranging from beer to frozen daiquiris. The place was packed with people dancing and drinking, having a grand ole’ time. Despite it being packed and hard to move, everyone was so friendly and made a path to the bar and the upstairs balcony. Where ever you are in MacSorleys you can find someone to talk to and enjoy the night. We plan on going back again.

Quite a cool place, had a live band when I visited. Really attentive and friendly bar staff, also served Gamma Ray and Neck Oil on tap! Can’t go wrong!

We always try to visit here when in Glasgow and spent an hour here on way to concert.Came in at perfect time as A blues band with a lady lead singer were just starting.These are the kind of pubs I love and could spend ages here but unfortunately I picked the wrong lager to drink.I had an Amstel and have to say it was terrible.The bar was very busy so I just picked the one closest to me and couldn't see others.The other problem I had was trying to get Internet,there was a password on wall saying it was gieitlaldie but it wouldn't work and the bar girl I asked when she wasn't busy was very unhelpful but next time I'll walk round bar and check other beers out.

Enjoyed a wee drink (or two!) in this fabulous pub during a recent stay in Glasgow. A very friendly barman with plenty of local knowledge. Reasonably priced drinks, fabulous atmosphere and clean toilets!

Great pub, looks brilliant after the reopening and the upper level is a good addition. Loads of space, would be good if there were more tables available.

Can’t tell you how happy I am that this place has be reopened, it’s an absolute gem of a place with a wide range of drinks , beers , ales , gins , whiskies. The live music every night really seals the deal .

Great visit Saturday evening with fine beer and live bands. Very atmospheric bar with seating upstairs too.

Three couples went to Macsorley’s, we had the “Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties”, Burgers, and Fish & Chips. The HN&T; was good but there were to much pepper corn in the gravy, otherwise it tasted very good. The burgers and fish & chips were also very good. The food portions were huge, ample to be shared. The beer was also great.

I was recently in Glasgow on holiday and visited mcsorlays, I was alone in the bar area when a gentleman approached me and made me feel rather uncomfortable. One of you bartenders mark noticing I was not happy with the situation came over and discreetly asked me to come and look at the beer selection thus avoiding an awkward situation which let me enjoy the rest of my night. Gold star for the barman and also the drink selection is phenomenal needless to say I travel to Glasgow twice a year and will certainly be visiting the bar again and will be recommending to friends and family in future.

A little bit of a rough area at night but the bar is a great place to catch local live music. It seemed to have a lot more locals than tourists and had a very lively vibe.

Suggested by a friend, I caught the first set of a cracking band beforfe a Springsteen Tribute Band at The Ferry. Couldn't get into The nearby Wetherspoons which was rammed becausde of the televised European Cup Final so ordered some food here, I had a delicious chilli nachos. It comes in three sizes, Small, regular, and large. I ordered the small version.It was enough to feed two hungr people with ease. Plenty of chilli, loads of nachoes, topped off with dollops of cream and fresh chillies. Lovely. Beer is about £4 a pint. Recommended.

Was meeting a friend for lunch and decided to try somewhere different hence went to MacSorleys. What a brilliant choice. Place was quiet, had a lovely homely feel and good choice of music playing. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Menu had plenty of choices at superb prices. Both my friend and I struggled to finish meal because the plates were so full but not at detriment of taste. I, got one, will definitely be back. Well recommended. Ps only gave 4 stars because although there is a good choice of lagers and beers I’m an old fashioned die hard and only drink dark beers. Belhaven best and Guinness were my only draught choices. Visit here and you will not be disappointed.

We were amazed at the quality, and quantity, of the food. We had three dishes each. I went for the haggis bites, chicken strips and nachos. Excellent. Plenty of choice with the beer too. Very friendly staff too.

My friends and I visited MacSorleys on the 29th of March, for casual drinks and dinner. We were in for a treat as on Thursday's the pub host's a Mac's Rock Night, with a LIVE band may I add. We opted in for a Mini Munch deal, which get's you 3 appetizers for £10, which was a bargain, considering the portion sizes!!! The staff are a lovely bunch. They were attentive the whole night and their knowledge of spirits and craft beer is excellent.

Glad we found Macsorleys,great atmosphere,friendly bar staff & brilliant live music. Didn't try the food but will next time as it looked good.

After phoning to book out a few tables for a family party, we were informed that we could hire the upstairs as a private area. It was ideal. We were given a personal bar member all night that took fantastic care of us, as well as having a buffet spread put on. The food was lovely, can't wait to go in again and try off their normal menu.

Not one for going out my way to write reviews but credit where credits due. Me and the wife were in Macsorleys Saturday night after walking buy and hearing the live music from inside. The lads on the door gave us some rubbish banter before we got in. Lol was rare to have a laugh with door staff. Inside was warm and cozy considering the weather out side. The main reason for the review though was how amazing the food was. I ordered the steak pie with mash and was plenty to fill me (I'm a big eater). The fish and chips the wife ordered could have fed 2. Already looking forward to going back with a few friends next time as the atmosphere was amazing. Thank you to Kirk also for looking after us and making us feel welcome.

We went expecting to hear a bit of jazz but it was a solo guy with a guitar (Hugh Kearns??). He was really great, a fabulous choice of songs - everything from ACDC to the Spice Girls! We only had drinks and there was a good selection and they were reasonably priced. Seen people eating and all of the food looked tasty. A great way to while away a couple of hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon!

First time in Glasgow and was looking for somewhere close to our hotel and also the gig venue. Short walk and we stumbled into this place.

i spent two evenings here on the weekend of the 14th of october and i have to say it lived up to everything i have heard about it. the staff were excellent the service was prompt and the evening entertainment on both nights was fantastic. i would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to glasgow . mc sorleys is a must stop shop. i will be returning in the new year.

brilliant few hours wth Muldoon Ragtime band. they are on next Saturday afternoon. pity about the service as blonde barman needs to be Customer orientated...still be there next week a d hope service improves.

Have not been here in years but glad we returned! We had an mating night which was as much to do with the company as it was the venue and music. The service was great, initially we had to wait a while to get served but it was busy but staff made effort to remedy this and it worked. Music was great and time went so quick!! Will definitely come back again and would recommend for anyone who likes live music and want a fab night!

Staying in Glasgow for the weekend with my other half and came across this bar next to the Jurys Inn. Only intended a few drinks here before heading further into town but the live music was great we ended up spending most of the evening here, and after drinking else where came back to finish the night here! The young lad on saturday evening was amazing, relaxing yet energetic all in one! The band when we came back later were fantastic as well. I'm from a big city and its not often you find this quality of music for free.The drink selection was vast and although we tend to stick to lager there was a brilliant selection of all spirits so youd be hard done by to not find something you are after. We had a quick bite to eat from the lunch menu the next day before heading home and of course it didnt disappoint. All in all, this find made our weekend that bit special and if we're ever back will be sure to pop in and say hi to the staff!

Was in Glasgow for the weekend and the live music coming from MacSorley caught our attention. Had a fantastic time both nights!! Really impressive gantry and a good selection of ales/lagers. Decided to stay for a bite to eat and got to construct my own burger which I really enjoyed! Fantastic staff and the guys on the door are quite comical also. Good atmosphere, we'll definitely make a point of stopping in again when back in Glasgow.

Popped in for a quick drink to show a visiting American friend a 'real' Glasgow bar. Band was on and playing (not great, but it is free!) Pub was quite busy and the lone barmaid looked under pressure. We finally found a space round the far side of the bar and waited, and waited, and waited, for 15 minutes for the barmaid to take any notice of us, and when she did notice us, she walked up to us and said I'm not the most pleasant way "I can't serve you there, it's for waiters only!" and walked away. Our American friend was quite taken aback by her rudeness and also commented that it might have been a reasonable comment if there actually had waiters (which they had not) We left and went to the Royal Scot where we enjoyed pleasant staff and a nice evening. McSorleys seems to give the impression that they are doing you a favour by actually being open. I will never set foot in the place again.

Brill pub for some live music. Had been years since my last visit but the refurb (whenever it happened) has the place looking great. Was also impressed with the variety of beers on tap and the diverse clientele. Will no doubt be back for a toe tapping Saturday afternoon in the future.

While waiting for my son who was attending a concert at the o2 I came across Mcsorleys. What a pleasure, friendly staff great food large selection of drinks and great music. They have live music every day of the week. I will be going back.

Let me start by saying that this pub has been a firm favourite for my partner and I for several years now but we're becoming more and more concerned over the quality of service you receive. On our last visit we ordered some food (burger and chilli nachos) and after 45mins of waiting I approached the member of staff who had taken the order and asked if they knew when it would be ready? He said he'd go and check and I returned to my seat. After several minutes I noticed the staff member had returned to the bar area but rather than approaching me to provide an update he proceeded to chat to people at the bar. He then disappeared and wasn't to be seen again - I'm assuming his shift was over - we never received a response to my query. After a further 15mins wait our food finally arrived with no apology for the time it had taken and with only one set of cutlery and no offer of any sauces etc - I had to go and pick these up. The food was lovely but we were disappointed with the level of service provided particularly as the bar wasn't that busy - we've also found ourselves standing at the bar waiting to be served for long periods of time on previous visits. This has the potential to be one of the best bars in Glasgow and the live music is 1st class but work is required on service to customers.

These guys know their booze from gins to real ales. They have 5 ale taps but only 4 were on due to the summer dip in the market but black sheep and trooper in the fridge as well as loads of others. Was spoiled for choice had macker gin with chillies "wow" also offered Strawberries and pepper as an alternative witch was also great. Small Nachos was massive so would have loved to have seen the large ones. And staff friendly 5* a guy singing in the afternoon who was good and a fantastic rock band in the evening. Loved it

We visited this pub twice in our trip in Glasgow. They had excellent food and great service. I value pub food and here I had the best fish and chips ever! They also have great options of beers, whiskeys and gins. Something for everyone.They also had a open stage night with professional band and my husband got to play with them. That was absolutely awesome.I really recommend this pub if you are visiting Glasgow. :)

Usually found MacSorleys a great place for a decent meal, and service but, this time the wife & I thought we'd walked into the wrong place! It was a Saturday afternoon, and we popped in for lunch, a drink, and to listen to the superb "Muldoon's Ragtime Jazz Band". First off, there was only 1 person serving at the bar on a packed Saturday afternoon... Not a good start. Eventually, another bar person eventually arrived, and I ordered a pint of lager, and a large soda water & lime. He didn't appear to know what a soda water & lime consisted of, and instead of putting in lime cordial & a slice of lime... I only found out that he'd just put in the slice of lime when I took it to my wife and she tasted it!. This was returned for the cordial that it required (as at a crazy £7.50 for the 2 drinks I think we were entitled to..). I then ordered my usual fish & chips meal, and my wife opted for macaroni cheese & garlic bread. After waiting a good 25 mins, I eventually received my meal which looked nothing like the lush fish & chips that I usually received here. It was obviously cheap, frozen oven chips, and my fish was long, and round (more like an eel than a haddock), and not pleasant. I was so hungry by this point I started eating it but not enjoying it. My wife then got her macaroni cheese... It was cold, dry, hardly any cheese, and obviously out of a cheap packet that was done in a microwave, and then re-heated but still allowed to go cold. This was returned by my wife to the manager, who apologised, and she told him just to replace it with fish & chips (she, at this point didn't know that this was disappointing as well). When this appeared, she ate about half of it before giving up. I have awarded the 1 star for the band. If I could have awarded a minus rating for the food, service, and bar work, I would have. Will be popping into the "Crystal Palace" across the road from "MacSorleys" as It's meals have not only been good everytime but, cheaper, quickly served, and the drinks are very reasonably priced.

An massive selection of beers and spirits! Over 60 malts , 40 rums and 40 gins (many of them Scottish).Had the large nachos to share between 3 friends, which was more than enough to fill us up for the night ahead.

Used to go for the live music before it closed. The refurbishment looks good, the staff were great and the meal did the trick. The monster stack of tacos looks great although we only managed the normal which was still plenty.

Excellent food and friendly atmosphere. Has a quality meal that was well prepared and well presented.

Your staff are rude. Your management team are worse. You have to remember that being open for such a long time doesn't give you liberties in being rude to customers and staff. Create some bloody character to the place and be nice.

Nice wee pub , decent food and decent priced beer , noit cheap but not the dearest. Main issue was trying to get served at bar , not enough staff on for a Saturday night and the bar becomes overly busy when there is a band playing , the room is greatly reduced and standing / drinking space is minimal ( sardines), Friday or Saturday afternoons is the best time to enjoy this pub

This pub was 2 mins away from our hotel.We called in on our 1st night in Glasgow & we enjoyed the live music & the vibe of the place.We went back the next night & there was another great live band playing.It's very busy with all different age groups.

f you ever get hungry or thirsty while staying in Glasgow, MacSorleys is a place you should go, without any doubts.Meals are as good, as they're cheap (considering that most of the meals include the drink).The choice's is quite broad, as they also offer (in addition to the "classic" menu) to pick between a vegetarian/vegan, a non dairy and an gluten free menu (Which is nice, as it changes from the food you can usually get in most of the Scottish restaurant).And for beer amateur, no doubt you'll enjoy the place, as you can literally choose from dozens of different beers (My favorite being the Bottled Beers from the Isle of Skye).And to top it all, the atmosphere is quite nice.So, make sur to go there if you're ever in Glasgow

After a day of Christmas shopping in Glasgow my Patrner and I visited Macsorleys bar for some food and a drink.When ordering our meal we were told that only certain items on the menu were available.We then ordered from the limited menu , to be told 20 minutes later that the battered fish we had ordered was not available either.We ordered steak pie as an alternative.We then waited for approximately a further hour for our chicken wings starter to arrive.When it arrived we were not provided with side plates.The chicken wings were so hot with spice that they were almost inedible.I would liken them to an inferno.The steak pie that arrived was a pre packed pie that you would expect to purchase in somewhere like Iceland Store. It was 95% pastry with only a small amount of meat.Definitely not the home made steak pie we had expected.It was so bad that we refused to eat it and immediately called on a member of staff.Our complaint was then referred to the Manager who it turned out was not available having left the premises.We were then referred to one of the bar tenders in his absence.We explained about our dissatisfaction, the poor quality service, the long wait for food and the poor quality and requested a refund.The bartender refused to accept our complaint and belittled every point we made.His attitude was extremely unhelpful to the point of being offensive.Having no further option we left the premises with no food, no refund and extremely unhappy with our experience and treatment.Having slept on it we tried to contact Macsorleys by telephone the next day to find that there phone number is no longer in use.It is for this reason that we write on this site to share with others of our bad experience with Macsorleys catering and staff.

Stopped in here for a few drinks before going to a gig at the O2 Carling Academy.Apparently this place has recently been refurbished, but it retains and old school Glasgow pub feel. The drinks are not the cheapest, but we stayed for a couple of hours as their was a good vibe and atmosphere in the place. Whether this is because it was quite busy with other people going to the same gig as us, I don't know. Service was remarkably quick considering there was only one barmaid on and was pretty cheery too considering the pressure she was under and was serving four different customers at the same time without mixing up any orders. Definately set us up for the gig.Like I said...a good pre-gig venue that is only 5 minutes away from the O2 Academy

Recently refurbished to a good standard, friendly staff make you welcome. Light bite food available was well cooked and nicely presented.

I so wanted to love everything about this place...I support establishments who continue to offer live music without a cover charge. And while the music is great and diverse ( I loved the Lennon/McCartney tribute on John Lennon's birthday that featured an "Elvis" opening Act), I was very disappointed in my food order both times I ordered. I am happy to pay a premium for decent food but feel ripped off paying for bad food.So be like me: Support Macsorley's by filling the place and buying drinks and maybe even some starters while enjoying great live music in Glasgow...but pass on the mains and sandwiches!

This would have been our first pub meal in the UK and we were looking forward to it. The food was so greasy we couldn't eat it. The place was nearly empty and that should have been the clue.

So I walk in and theirs 3 people at the bar and two bar maids behind it so you'd think I'd get served quickly.....wrong after making eye contact iv still not been served fine I'm in no rush so I thought IL pull my phone out and start txt and see how long this takes keep in mind bar is empty and I'm less than 12/14 feet away. It gets to the point I'm thinking really? So I stop txt and start looking at them again....nothing then the bar maid with the blonde hair not the one with jet black hair comes over and goes to ask me something but I just walked out without saying anything if I owned this pub I'd be very concerned at the awareness of these staff I'm confident I could have just walked in and sat down all night and these two wouldn't notice a thing. Never did find out if they served non alcoholic beer.

We've had many nights out here. The pubs got a great feel about it. The staff are friendly and the foods fantastic. Call in if your in Glasgow.

McSorleys is now closed which is a shame as they had music on every Saturday afternoon which was great. The pub had great character and the food and staff were excellent. Another good pub goes to the wall. What a shame.

The quality of food here is excellent and music at night makes it a real night out. Love the character and characters

My girlfriend and I visited here on a driving golf/distillery holiday of Scotland/Ireland in August 2015. While we cannot comment on the food as we did not eat here, we did have a few beverages and enjoyed the live and complimentary jazz band. If you are ordering food there is a cool mezzanine level that sits above the bar and overlooks the open/front/stage area of the venue. We enjoyed it.

So sorry to hear the music stops this weekend 14th Feb. Visited recently and had a great afternoon listening to the Muldoons, staff were very helpful and made the afternoon even better. Will be visiting again soon.
