Macgochan's in Argyll & Bute

Idéalement situé à côté des quais d'où commencent les wildlife tours, pratique pour manger chaud après tout ce froid sur le bateau. Personnel +/- sympathique et efficace. Premier "fish & chips" que je goûte et franchement, super bon ! On sent que le poisson est frais et la friture n'est pas aussi lourde que celles que j'ai connues jusqu'ici. Frites bonnes, RAS. Sauce tartare se marie bien avec le plat. Chocolat chaud un peu petit mais correct. Tarifs un peu élevés, mais vu qu'est en zone touristique et en plus, ouvert en continu jusqu'à 21h (heure locale), c'est compréhensible !

Super helpful staff, always checking in and getting us anything we asked for! Lovely food, steak was absolutely gorgeous 😍 great atmosphere and a lovely decorated interior. We had a great time here and would highly recommend to all visiting Mull for a lovely dinner!

We stopped in for an early dinner and it was not crowded at all. We were sat upstairs, our service was very slow, and after bringing us some water about half-way through the meal (which we asked for when our order was taken), we never saw the waiter again! The food was over priced for the quality/quantity, as the kids didn't even eat half as it was way over cooked. After waiting almost 20 minutes for the waiter - after we finished eating - we went downstairs to the bar to pay. They rang us up there as we didn't have a bill receipt. Maybe we were there on a very off night, but we certainly didn't return for the days we stayed in town.

Had a lovely dinner there for my friend's birthday. The food was excellent, hey have good vegan options too. Service is was incredibly fast, too and the drinks very nice. Would recommend!

I came here for a late lunch/early tea. It was just me and my dog, but I'd already checked that they were dog-friendly. The weather was gorgeous so I sat upstairs on the outside terrace - although the handrail was just at my eye-level so blocked the view a bit! I had a fresh orange juice and the battered haddock. It arrived quickly, was a very good sized portion and came with a pot of tartar sauce and one of mushy peas. Everything tasted lovely and very fresh. I couldn't finish all the chips! I'm sure you can get fish and chips at a better price on Tobermory seafront but this was great to sit down and relax. And parking just outside in the free (council) carpark.

We had a very nice lunch at Macgochans. The Calamari was genuinely some of the best I’ve ever had. All mains were very tasty too, and felt reasonably priced for the quality. The only issue we had was with the Children’s pasta, which was a bit spicy. However, the staff response was excellent and they made a replacement dish without any difficulty. Would recommend for sure.

My husband described the burger here as “the new king of burgers in Scotland.” The food was wonderful and its in a really neat spot. Everything is fairly priced as well, which is lovely.

We decided on this place for our evening meal on a day trip to tobermory and glad we made the choice. The place is stunning. Interior really cool and modern with great views and fantastic balcony altho the weather was not favourable for our visit. All the staff extremely friendly particularly the young lass from York at uni in Manchester working on mull for the summer. It was nice to speak to someone from near our home. Yes some meal and drink prices are on the high side, but you are in tobermory on mull, i imagine running businnesses are difficult so we understood. The food was fantastic. My wife had the beef pie which was tasty and tender and I had the fantastic chicken schnitzel in mushroom sauce which I really enjoyed. There is a fantastic kids menu and my children enjoyed there food. Family of 4 with drinks ate for £67 (service charge is inclusive) and we thought that was pretty good. Would definitely return and recommend

We passed by and avoided this pub on our first night in Tobermory because of the raucous noise that could be heard across the car park. We tried it the next night as it seemed quieter. This turned out not to be the case, so it appears that the establishment attracts the kind of clientele who have little regard for others. Whilst we understand that the pub cannot control this, we did feel aggrieved that having asked for a quiet table we were placed right by the bar so had the pleasure of all the comings and goings of staff and their conversations in addition to those of other customers. We felt that the food was what you would expect for pub food but priced quite highly. I was shocked to have been charged over £6 for a pint of shandy.

At best, average. Ordered 3 starters, calamari, chicken tenders & scallop. I’ve never seen calamari that colour before, burnt. Scallop pakora, burnt. Salad was good. Staff need to up their game. Asked 3 times for tap water. Asked for extra cutlery. Were sat next to the usual gubby waitress giving the young guys a lecture about not eating next to customers. Really! Get your basics right. It’s pub grub at exorbitant prices. Won’t return

Found this pub/restaurant while on Mull for the day. Ideal location right on the quay. The staff were friendly and very attentive, couldn't have been nicer. The menu was varied, there was something to suit everyone and quite reasonable priced. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and it was very nice, we've had better but we've certainly had a lot worse. The only negative I would say is the place especially the loos could do with a bit of TLC , a deep clean and a lick of paint here and there. Hubby said the beer was good. ☺️

Firstly, I need to stress that the food was great. Secondly, the restaurant is dog friendly. Thirdly they serve Aspall Cider, so one of us was happy. However on the down side we found the place to be somewhat lacking in atmosphere. OK it was mid-January, but the place was almost empty and due to its cavernous size, it was pretty cold inside. I'm sure that in summer time things would be different, but for us we had seven nights in Tobermory and only ate here once. I think that says it all. Another gripe is the automatic adding on of a 10% service charge. I realise that this is not at the local staff's discretion, but imposed by the parent company. However, this is not America. Just saying

Great central spot for parking, buses, meeting up. We called in two days in a row as meeting family who were travelling and it was a great central point for us all to get to. Lovely atmosphere, child and dog friendly, delicious food and great service. Camry and Katie looked after us very well, lovel coffees as well as delicious soup..the chef's lentil soup was extra special and a big portion. Will definitely be back.

Friendly staff and good service. I had the Ukrainian dish which was absolutely delicious. I’ve been trying to find it on the menu on the internet without sucess as my wife has offered to make it for me.

When trying to order a meal we were told that they were busy but to ‘come back later’. On returning later and seeing empty tables tried to order a meal. Again was told no and would have to return later. I asked if I could book a table. Answer given was that some staff was due to leave and that she would not book a table. Told to try later but tables would be allocated on a first come first serve basis. All this was information was given a very disinterested and sullen attitude. We chose elsewhere.

Parking right outside flat and flat access. Varied menu and good service. They don't take bookings for small parties but as they said the worst that can happen is have drink in the adjoining pub while they sort a table. The atmosphere is good as was the service and the meal was good. Overall an enjoyable experience. There is outside seating and a balcony upstairs.

We visited in 2018 and the food was great and we were looking forward to returning. However things have changed. The quality of the food we ordered was overall poor especially the fish and chips and cheeseburger . These dishes were overcooked, dry and tasteless and the chips were terrible .The scallops and soup were good and service was average .We will not be returning . In 2018 we visited three times during our stay.

Service was not great, very slow and it wasn’t particularly busy. A few couples came in, were acknowledged but then waited for over 15 mins just to get a drink! I had the sea bass which was nice, although small, mash was a bit gluey but it was ok. My partner had chicken escalope but it was very dry. No one checked whether everything was ok, and I had to go to the bar to pay as no one bothered to come over and ask if we wanted desserts etc. Then they add on a tip! Cheek!

It was a good food offering. The service is over-casual: I specifically asked for some water without ice: it arrived full of ice!

Good was very average. Nothing special about any of the food. Average bar meal at best. I had scampi confident must have been frozen. Plenty of it tasteless. One of party had the fatty lamb cutlets and disliked. My langastine starter although small langastines did taste good.

Hot smoked salmon was great but pricey for a starter. Burger and chips were just burger and chips! Sadly have to say that the disabled toilet was disgusting. Full of dirty nappies. Did inform a member of staff but when checked an hour later, was still in the same condition.... really!!

Great views however honestly the worst burger I have ever eaten in a restaurant, venison with blue cheese, absolutely awful. Overcooked with no taste. When I complained they did take the service charge off my bill., though didn’t offer to replace it. The service was not great either, most staff upstairs more interested in checking their mobile phones! I’ll be back to Tobermory but certainly not back to this restaurant.

While visiting Mull recently, we stopped at MacGochans for a drink the bar; the guy serving was friendly, and the atmosphere was fun. We decided as we liked the bar, we would go next door to the restaurant side for our dinner. We were offered a choice of several tables and took one away from the door as it was starting to feel a little cooler out. We were given some menus, and the server (female, mid 40s, I'd guess) couldn't have seemed any less interested if she tried. We gave her our drinks order, a bottle of red wine, and she just seemed like she didn't care at all. Both my husband and I immediately joked with each other after she walked away as we both picked up on it. A different server took our food order and then again another brought our food out. Both were younger and definitely more approachable than the first one we had. When it came time to get the bill, we were discussing whether or not to leave a tip, but it had already been added to the bill! It was a 10% service charge! I don't feel like the service we got was actually worth that, and it made me slightly annoyed that it had already been added on.

Fantastic welcome by friendly local staff. Beers and food great. Atmosphere good with a busy bar and restaurant. Will definitely return soon.

The new menu for summer is outstanding I had the full rack of ribs. They were cooked perfectly. I almost had to use a knife and fork because the rib bones came out so easy and clean! The portions are veryyy generous for the price....

After a month of boring pub food whilst travelling through the UK - (they amost alol offer the same ole same ole), what an absolute delight to find MacGohans!!! They have a great varied and interesting menu. We had the lamb cutlets and Bograch Soup!...

Visited with family of four. Expensive for a meal, I had a burger that was tough and dry and chips that looked like frozen chips. Sadly they don't tell you about the 20% tax charge and the 5% service charge they give you on top...

I've that many of the restaurants in Tobermory have an arrogance that beggars belief Iin their treatment of potential customers Macgochan's stands out in atmosphere quality of food and superb customer service. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

The ambiance of MacGochans is very like Wetherspoons or Hungry Horse. But the food and service are far superior to that style of eatery. We had prompt, friendly service and great food for reasonable prices. The teamwork between the staff was clearly evident.

This is the perfect place to stop off at during your trip. The food is delicious and was served quickly, the employees were very friendly. This place is dog friendly and has a lovely view of the harbour, would definitely recommend.

I stayed on Mull for 6 weeks for work, mostly in Tobermory, and used the restaurant and what is known as the Wee Bar a lot. It's very friendly and the Wee Bar is certainly only as good as it is because of the effort...

This restaurant bar was being rebuilt last time we were here and it has been brilliant to now visit after its rebuild/refit. It didn't disappoint at all. Everything was so good. The staff are lovely, friendly and so efficient. The food was divine.

We stopped by for lunch on a very rainy and windy day. We had hot seafood soup which was homemade and delicious, a pint of local beer all in front of a warm fire.

On a rainy day we came in here for lunch. Service was fantastic and the fish pie, omgosh the fish pie! It was like a fish chowder with big chunks of white fish and salmon with a cheesy potato topping. Incredible!
