When we arrived the parking was a nightmare. It took 20mins of waiting for someone to move so that we could park to have our booked lunch. We ordered and when the meals arrived, one meal was wrong and some extras that we had ordered never arrived. The meal was quite good however the problems didn't stop there. When we received the bill it had 3 items on it that we had not ordered. Also a medium glass of wine was £10 and £15 for large one !! A small bottle of non alcoholic beer was almost £5 !! Ridiculous prices for drinks. We shall not be going there ever again

We booked this hotel on a Dinner, bed and breakfast basis as we want to break up our 5 hr drive from Wolverhampton to Scotland. That was a mistake, I admit we arrived late, approx 9pm, but when checking in we were informed the "Gas had been turned off in the kitchen" and no food was available. I asked the receptionist, Kyle, if we would get a refund on the dinner aspect of our booking as this was included, he said he'd speak to he manager in the morning. We were given the key to our room,210. On entering there was an over powering smell of bleach which was very unpleasant and unwelcoming. To make matters worse, my wife found what looked like an eariewig in the bathroom sink. Faced with the prospect of no food until breakfast, the smell in the room and the uninvited guest, we decided to check out and continue our drive home. Just as disapointing is that MacDonald Hotels do not respond to emails from their customers. Do yourself a favour and give this one a miss.

I am arranging a surprise party for my wife's 50th and is due in a week at River suite, MacDonald Tickled Trout. From outset, both Helen and Wendy have been excellent in coordinating the event for 60 people. Wendy showed me the function room and accommodated to our ever increasing needs. Got discounted accommodation for our friends who are staying at the hotel and also complimentary free B&B to us on the party day. They even arranged a projector and screen and very accommodating to what we want for the hot fork meal. They allowed us to have our own DJ abd discounted rates for alcoholic drinks. We are excited for the party and will update on trip advisor how it went. Thanks to Wendy and Helen. Dr Mamidi

What a great weekend at the Tickled Trout, the staff couldn't do any more for us as a family from check in the check out. The room was lovely and clean and had great views over the river. We ate on the first night in the restaurant and the steak was brilliant! Breakfast on both mornings were faultless with a great offering. Thank you Vicky and the team, we will be back!!

We called for lunch in passing en route to Blackpool. Very welcoming and the service was excellent! However the food is poor! Overpriced and slapped on the plate! I had a chicken and avocado salad, the cucumber was stale, warm leaves, less than a handful of salad. In fact it wasn’t salad it was part of a bag of leaves! Shame as the weather was lovely we sat outside by the river. We did notice the hotel is desperate for an external paint, very shabby and mucky looking. Cannot recommend for food, top price, poor quality! We certainly would avoid it when passing again!

Do not waste your money, rooms not too bad to be honest, but no lock on the bathroom door, plugs in bath and sink were pushed in and stuck we couldn’t get them out so we couldn’t use the sink or shower as it would have filled with water. A pint of larger and a single vodka coke was £16! My partner lost his bank card and a lovely lady informed us she handed it into reception we asked for the card back and was refused without photo ID when the name and card number was on the system with our room as it was the card we used to pay for the room we even offered to give her the numbers from the card as proof it was his and she still refused to give it back! She was so unhelpful and very rude. The £22 each for breakfast was not worth it cold coffee and awful food we couldn’t even eat it.. I would definitely not return. There were holes in the walls from the door being opened onto it. Only good thing was there is a petrol station next door that sells hot sandwiches plenty of snacks and drinks and has a subway. The views out the back were stunning and lovely to sit out .

We popped into the Tickled Yrout, Preston, on the spur. ( Mother needed a comfort break.) Well, thanks to Anne, receptionist, bar manager, waitress, customer service agent etc. etc. ( This must be the hotel service industry !!! ) the ad hoc visit actually turned into a wonderful experience. What an amazing friendly, warm, efficient lady, not to mention interesting, humerous and entertaining. What a great asset for any business. Whatever the hotel pays her is not enough. You, unfortunately, just don't see this kind of diligence, work ethic, input and commitment nowadays. A real blast from the past for anyone who appreciates good old fashioned attentive customer service. Pay a visit to the Tickled Trout and just hope that it's a day that Anne is working. She will make your day, as she did ours. Thank you so very much Anne.

Hotel from outside when i pulled up was like run down plaster missing out the outside walls etc. I nearly drove off straight away. But i needed some rest. First night was ok until i went to go toilet in the night and there was a water leak by the main door and toilet so got wet feet. Reported to front desk and offered me a different room next door stil on ground floor and open the door and walked straight back out smelt damp and musty. Back to front desk really loverly young lady very freindly couldn't do another but 3rd room now and on the second floor walked in not made up no towels bedding was everywhere a right tip. But dragged my case up etc back to front desk again and she promised it would be done ASAP as i was going out. Anyway 1 hour later come back still in a mess but didn't say anything and went out and come back around 12.00 so 4 hour's went up stairs and yes straight back down as still haven't been done..She got straight on the phone to housekeeper who claims there waiting on bedding etc to arrive.. So 4 th room as got moved again next door checked in my room want was perfect. 10 minutes later housekeeper is next door making it up. The front desk was so sorry and please don't get me wrong she couldn't do enough but its a joke want was a 2 day hoilday from hell. Spent alot of money and waiting around so spent more on drinks and food as nothing else we could do. Yes we got offered 1 days free breakfast but that's it for us being messed about

Booked into McDonald Tickled Trout for 1 night. We paid extra for a king-size bed. On entry to the room, it smelt disgusting. Not sure if it had been attempted to be cleaned with dirty cloths or what it was but it wasn't pleasant. We had travelled several hours and were eager to see our grandchild so opened the window a little and went out to our relations hoping the smell would go. On return at midnight, we found the smell was still there and just as unpleasant. On further investigation of the room we found the bath to be dirty, the towels that were meant to be white were grey. The bedside lamp had no bulb in it and the lampshade was stained. The duvet cover had a hole in it. The pillows were disgusting inside and in the morning we noticed the state that the window was in. Anyway, you can decide for yourself if this is the place you would want to stay in. Have a look at the pictures and make your own mind up. I personally would never stay here again.

Booked in here for one night on spec/drop in. Given a good sized family room at a decent price. As a single female obviously struggling with large suitcases, I had no offer of help from male receptionist who had a 'disinterested ' air about him. Room was tired and in need of some TLC but clean and very comfortable with a lovely sunny view of the river. Nice big bath , plenty of hot water, and very comfortable bed with spotlessly clean bedding. Slept extremely well. Upon checking out, a different male receptionist was extremely helpful, reccomending UBER taxi transfer ( which was great). This young man is smiley , very smart and likeable and a credit to the hotel. Ate in the restaurant in the evening. Warm welcome from very pleasant restaurant manager, and I enjoyed a lovely glass of wine. Food disappointing tho as had to send dish back as cold in the middle. However, a young lady named Kaitlyn came to the rescue with her bubbly personality and professionalism, offering to exchange meal immediately with a complimentary glass of wine. She handled the situation expertly and turned what was a disappointing experience into a positive one...hold onto her !! Overall, nothing would put me off staying here again...recommended.

I travel from North East Scotland to Dorset and London regularly and normally break journey at the fabulous Cartford Inn . I’ve known McDonalds for donkeys years and a terrific brand - exceptional value for money . Yes , it’s not the Cartford Inn but … it’ s a third of the price and I’ll continue to use both . Aidan at Reception superb welcome . Katie Young waitress who served room service with aplomb and Vicky in charge of breakfast a total delight . Yes , the hotel might need some investment here and there but for value for money , cleanliness , friendliness and closeness to Motorway 10/10 . I’ve just googled as remember Donald McDonald being a total legend in the hotel world and see he’s still there at the helm along with son Rhuaridh - their expertise and understanding of friendliness and value has obviously passed on throughout the company . I’ll be back !!

This hotel room was booked for our works Christmas get together. The cost of the room was £70 on a Saturday night in December, for that price and a hotel in a prime location off the motorway, it was fair. The hotel has a petrol station/subway/nisa market next to it which is very handy. I stayed in room 226. The room was extremely dated. The carpet and furnishings were stained and ripped in places. There was socks left in a drawer from a previous guest I’d assume. The bathroom felt a little cramped and was dated however, the bathroom was absolutely spotless, although the towels were worn and frayed on the edges. The room had a radiator in there which was on full when I get into the room, I turned it off. 226 has a good view of the lake outside which was pleasant! As for our Christmas get together, we had a table booked for a sit down meal and a tab behind the bar. The serving staff visibly could not be bothered and were just rude. I wouldn’t like to work Christmas parties but people were being given the wrong dishes and when we raised it that attitude was “well it’s what you’ve got now”. The bar closed for nearly an hour whilst food was being served so people had ran out drinks, I understand a brief closure to allow food to be served but to extend it to an hour wasn’t great.

Booked a stay via booking.com. Extremely poor show for a UK hotel. Very dirty all over the place inside and outside. Rooms were a total sham with no sign of professional cleaning. No manager on-site and the breakfast crew definitely have no hosting skills. Hospitality courses definitely required on how to make guests feel welcome. And the so called continental breakfast, the serving platters, the selection of food very poor and overpriced. Please catch up with the first world. Africa and Asia offer far better service and quality for a much more pocket friendly price too. Looks ok from outside, if you dont look too closely. Reception was OK. For a 4 star hotel it was very lacking. Compared to other 4 star hotels we have stayed in, it was not good. We were very disappointed. We have stayed in a lot if hotels up and down the country. Tired decor, no signage as to where the lifts were or way to reception. The room was OK, the furnishings were tired, lighting poor, one of the lamps switch was broken, so we unplugged it as deemed unsafe. Window was very difficult to open. No facilities information in the room. We were not informed of check out time or what time breakfast was. We discovered these on checking out! Bed however was comfortable abandoned we had a good night sleep. Having to pump the toilet a lot is not good, especially at night. Only one person can attempt to flush the toilet, as the systern needs a long time before the next person can attempt to flush it. Not disabled friendly hotel. We had dinner in the restaurant. Food was OK, had catch of the day which was nice, the serving was very small, veg nothing to write home about. The dessert was a disaster.... apple and raspberry crumple, but it was in a very salty sour pastry which left a unpleasant taste in the mouth. They did do custard for us, but it was thick lumpy with no sugar, or very little. Totally unedable. Was told they don't actually make the crumble in house, it's bought in... not impressed. They did take off the crumble from the bill. The rest of the parties food was passible. The waitress was brilliant, very helpful and attentive, and patient. We forgot to get her name, it was her 1st shift, big thank you to her though.

The food was mediocre. The amount was okay but it lacked flavour. Most surprised at over £11 for a large glass of wine from a bottle that would barely cost that. Looking at many of the other reviews, this seems to be a common theme. Now waiting to see the standard response from the hotel that involves a superficial apology with a hint of an attitude that I'm being overly critical in comparison to all other clientele, and a strong indication that nothing will change.

Ok it goes against my character to complain, and you can argue maybe I was expecting too much here. We used this hotel for accommodation and a meeting room for the day. From the moment I checked in, I didn’t like the place. The receptionist was very short and I would suggest lacked quantity training, and this is a mark against the management there. Service was sporadic to say least. This can be improved on by training and leadership of the management. However the room I had was shocking, for a hotel room it was the pits. I’m sorry the whole place needs an overhaul, or it will be gone. Only positive was it’s near the motorway 👍

We booked this hotel as we needed to make an emergency stop. We looked at the reviews and wondered if we should or not but I have to say the hotel is fine. It isn’t the ritz but my room had everything I needed and the bed was comfortable and the shower nice and hot. I have seen other reviews of people saying it’s a disgrace and the staff aren’t helpful - I didn’t get this impression. My room wasn’t perfect - I had some dust behind my TV unit but I know I have the same issue at home so I’m not that bothered. I don’t suppose for one minute lugging heavy furniture about happens daily but the main part of the room was clean as was the bathroom. The staff are very busy and no doubt struggling under pressures like the rest of society but everyone I came across was polite and apologetic if they felt they needed to be. If I wanted a concierge or bell boy service I would have been disappointed, if I insisted on ultra modern I would have been disappointed but I looked at the photos and knew what to expect and it was fine! Would I stay here again ? Absolutely yes. The food is expensive but no one held a gun to our head and forced me to order - We could have gone elsewhere to eat and actually what we had was tasty enough and plentiful . If you come with unrealistic expectations you will be disappointed , if you come loving on the real world then you’ll probably be fine too. If you speak to the staff in an appropriate manner you’ll probably get a good response. I thought overall it was good and I didn’t leave feeling disappointed.

Macdonald management. You really need to visit this hotel and question if you want your brand above the door. Absolutely awful and brand damaging. Dirty, musty smell and just unpleasant. Does not reflect well.

Was really looking forward to our first night away but the atmosphere and customer service left a lot to be desired. Check in was smooth and the lady on the desk was lovely and polite. We arrived after a very long journey to find there was no food available at 8pm, despite there being an on site restaurant and bar. This resulted in us having to go back out to find food, we were told we could get take out delivered but no one delivered to the hotel.Rooms were dated, upholstery was very stained and in desperate need of updating. Cleanliness wasn't great. There were long cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the windows were filthy so you couldn't actually enjoy the view. Bathroom decor was really tired and neither of the two rooms had any hand-wash or a soap bar despite us being in a virus pandemic. Rooms were also extremely hot - wouldn't be comfortable in the height of Summer. We were looking foward to breakfast and the downstairs was cleaner. However, despite not being busy in the breakfast room we waited a long time to order and eventually had to ask the girl if we could order, we had to ask for the missing toast, then the missing breakfast items. Food quality was good though when we received it. But the absolute lasting impression was upon departure. The gentleman on the desk really needs to rethink his customer service skills. When we checked out my friend said thanks and asked where he should leave the key, he was ignored, he asked again if he should leave the key on the desk to which he was met with a wave of the hand, a sigh and a "yes". We then checked out, and said "thank you shall we leave the key here", to which he did not even acknowledge us. We said "goodbye and thanks." He did not even look in our direction, respond or acknowledge. Not the best lasting impression for the front desk of a hotel.

Expected more from a chain hotel boasting 4 stars, but the room in which we stayed was dreadful, it was dirty and dated, despite the website advertising this hotel as refurbished. The bathroom was tiny, mould stained and dirty. The reduced dinner menu sounded fair j see current circumstances but in reality the food served was poor, overcooked chicken and congealed peppercorn sauce. No-one on reception as we departed to discuss our issues with. We would highly recommend you choose an alternative hotel to stay at. We have stayed at different Macdonald hotels in the past without problem but this was appalling.

Booked to stay at Macdonald Tickled Trout hotel for 2 nights. Spoke to the hotel before arrival to check on facilities due to CV19 and Suzanne on reception was very helpful. Originally we had booked DBB but because of the Eat out to help out deals with the hotel it was better value to just book room only and pay for meals so we were very happy when Antony, the manager agreed to change our booking. Our room was very comfortable and had a lovely view of the river. All the meals in the restaurant were excellent and the friendliness and professionalism shown by our 2 waitresses (Kasha and Anna) made our stay perfect. Thank you for a lovely stay.

I arrived to my room (10th July) to find a used and unflushed toilet- any illusion of being COVID-19 secure as signs in reception and website protest were shattered. Used tissues stuffed back into the tissue box unsettled me further... revolting! Hotel also very tired (read: needs refurbishing). If COVID-19 a concern- do not use.

Stayed here for one night with family. Rooms are clean and comfortable - perfect for a short stay. We spent the majority of the evening in the lounge bar and steak house. The food was excellent and service was equally good. All the staff have been exceptional. In particular we’d like to highlight the service provided by the waitress/bargirl Chelsea. The warmth and efficiency of service was first class. Brilliant with our children and went ‘above and beyond’ when our daughter (who’s potty training) had an accident. Chelsea is an absolute credit to the MacDonald Hotel and should be commended for the difference she made to our stay.

This was booked by BAE for an interview I had in Samlesbury. The staff, fantastic from the front desk to behind the bar.The room, Bed and pillows great and a good bathroom. The bar and food, a good selection of drinks and a good menu.. They definitely milk the fact BAE use it though for expenses and personally think they overcharge, I wouldn't have paid £15 for the burger and chips I had if I was anywhere else. They also know the limit is £15 so extra dishes a couple extra quid just to try and get you to put your hand in your pocket, I'm paying over the odds for my drinks leave my food alone please! I was sick half way through the night but that could easily have been nerves ore interview so harsh to blame it on the over priced burger. I can see why they do it though to be fair and the burger was tasty and chips OK, but again not worth £15.Would I stay here again, if it was paid for. Would i pay a little extra for something else on the menu, yes I actually think I would regardless of my previous comments. If visiting Preston then probably better places to stay, but if you are there for BAE in Samlesbury then it's a good option.Oh and the main light does not work in room 201 but was in a rush when checking out, and they were having computer issues and were predisposed.. There are enough lamps though for it to be an issue to be fair.

Well placed for overnight as just off motorway at junction 32. However was disappointed in the room. Lighting was from supplementary lamps plugged in and very dim. Shower was lukewarm would not go hotter when trying to adjust went cold and toilet handle squealed when flushed. Breakfast however was very good.

No problem with the service but there was a lack of ambience due to being in a small dining room due to a wedding reception in the main one. The problem was with the food, none of our choices were inspiring, very small portions, very high prices for what was on offer and one meal cold. It was taken back with the caveat that it should not be microwaved but we think it was as the fish was decidedly darker and dryer but the things that were warm were now cold. A reduction in the bill could not compensate for what was a family meal. The pity of it was the hotel was very good.

Would not recommend this Started off so well The young lady on reception was so friendly and professional ... then when we went into our room! The toilet seat was broken. The shower screen was covered in orange gunge at the point of where the screen met the bath. There was a anti slip mat rolled up at the burner of the bath. I removed it to put it down and there was a brown slime stain where it had been propped up. On closer inspection. It was covered in a thick slime The seal around the bath, behind the taps and between the grouting was black with mould. There were only 3 small table lamps in the room. No other lighting. So it was very dark. Two of the bulbs were blown ! Not checked. The shelves in wardrobe were thick with dust. Luckily we were only staying one night so this didn’t affect our stay but they looked like they haven’t been polished or wiped in weeks. We went downstairs to get a drink from the bar, to be met by a very unfriendly young lady. She was sharp and rude. I did go to the nice lady on reception and told her. The food was average but the waiting staff in the restaurant were very nice. Breakfast was very good as were the waitress that helped up. I was asked in check out if I was happy. I would normally say yes. However, I said no. He asked me why and I asked him to get a pen and paper for the list. After writing the list he said. Next time you come, we will make sure you have a clean room . My reply was 1. It should have been clean when we arrived and paid for it 2. We will never be back. Long review but I hope it gets looked at.

Called in for lunch at 12 am. Very few people in the bar and nobody eating. The staff are pleasant enough but not particularly attentive.By 12.30 we had ordered our meals and it was almost 1.00 when they arrived. The food is OK but overpriced. £13 for a small piece of supermarket salmon with broccoli and a poor mashed potato affair.Could be so much better with their outlook onto the river and proximity to the motorway.Considering the Hotel is named The Tickled Trout you would have thought that a restaurant named The Scottish Steakhouse was incongruous.

Met family here to collect grandchildren and had sandwiches and pizza. Ham sandwiches were thick and filled with home cooked ham, and the prawn sandwich was a meal in itself. Excellent pizza. Pot of tea for two served in lovely china, with a generous pot of hot water to top up the tea. All served by friendly and efficient staff. Excellent value. Will be back - recommended.

So "TICKLED TROUT HOTEL, PRESTON". told me over the phone they dont do cancellations, even though I had no one to mind my dog. They offered me a pet friendly room for an extra £15. When I arrived for the wedding and asked to check in, they decided that this would be the best time to inform me that the dog cant be left unattended. So I missed the wedding and they wont refund me. They upsold the room to me over the phone, which would be an ideal time to inform of the rooms policy, regarding pets. and now saying, it's clearly stated online. Someone please show on these pics where it says on their terms&cons; that dogs cant be left unattended?

Coffee was good but staff were totally lacking in customer service. Not at all friendly, no smiles or eye contact, just doing the minimum job and no more. The hospitality industry is about the whole experience even if it is just coffee and a snack. Sadly lacking at this branch.

Was my first time in England and really wanted a coffee I don’t usually drink another drinks because I have lactose intolerance in S. Korea don’t usually have free lactose milk so that is why thinking in that I ordered Americano with extra 2shots (5 total) but I couldn’t even taste the coffee was just like water with dark color so I add extra 2 shots and finally it tasted as coffee 😂 and the cookie super dry… as barista this is an insult 😤😂

Just started a new job in the area and being a big Starbucks fan thought great this will do. Of all the Starbucks iv been in this is without doubt the worse. Iv given it the benefit of the doubt but if you want to know how bad a latte can taste then go to this one. Todays was as bitter as you can get the beans tasted burnt and the milk was to hot. The staff are stressed and just can’t wait to get rid of you. The cup is never full but you woudent mind that if it tasted right but it never does well mine hasn't. Don’t know if the staff go through the testing process on the machine to check the coffee taste before they start work but it looks like they don’t. Iv move on now and I would advise you to do the same.

New to the area so decided to check out a few pubs with my mate. Both of us went in during the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game and were completely blanked by the guy behind the bar who walked straight past us a few times in a 5 minute period and its far to say he was much more focused on chatting up two women on the other end of the bar. Left and went somewhere else instead Edit, I didn't say the Leeds v Sheff Wednesday game was played on a Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday is the name of the team. It was a Friday night game on the 23rd August
