Lyceum Tavern in City of London, Westminster

Popped in for a drink on sat afternoon but after paying £16.20 for a lager and a single gin and tonic I won’t ever go back why everywhere you go you get ripped off no need 😤😤😤

We stopped in for a drink before the show at the Lyceum. Cozy pub with lovely little knooks to sit in. The young lady behind the bar was lovely and very welcoming. They only serve their own brand in this pub. I had the Samuel smith organic lager. Not being much of a lager drinker these days, I fancied one on this warm day. I was really impressed with this lager. Very light and clean. So impressed that I had another. Nice spot.

They don’t know how to cook a veggie burger. It was a dark burnt colour when normally a beyond meat type burger should be more pink. Tables around us were not cleaned off for almost the entire hour being there. Quite gross to eat beside. Scampi left quite a lot to be desired. Every dish felt like it was an after thought and not cooked properly.

My son had sausage & mash and he loved it. I wanted to have the British fish & chips experience so I just cannot give 5 stars to that 😀 But, the place is very nice and warm and the staff was very friendly. I could go again.

Good old English pub. Great atmosphere in a very convenient location, just off crowded Covent Garden. Dining is upstairs which serves traditional pub meals at a reasonable price. They have a small courtyard garden with 4 tables. If you want a pint after a long walk of shop browsing in a quiet pub, I'll recommend here.

Visitamos camino al teatro para almorzar. Sólo puedes comer arriba. Pedimos del menú y ambos pedimos hamburguesa y papas fritas con la mía siendo el tipo de pollo Korien. La comida era todo agradable, pero todas las hamburguesas y las patatas fritas estaban muy sobre cocinadas y varias de las patatas fritas simplemente se rompieron sin patata, ya que estaban tan sobre cocinados. Lo peor fue mi odio a las mascotas cuando llegó la factura un pub británico se convirtió en un restaurante americano con cargo por servicio añadido sin preguntar y que yo sepa (aunque los menús fueron retirados tan pronto como pedimos) no aconsejado en el menú para toda la comida y bebidas, no me importa dar una buena propina de servicio, pero odio que me digan lo que voy a dar propina y por esa razón, así como la comida que no recomendaría o devolver.

Terrible experience. Very long post-order waiting times, normal food. Once we decided what to order we were told, only later, that the stuff was not available. Having re-chosen what to have, we were told the same thing for other dishes too, so we had to choose again. It's a shame because the guys are very helpful and kind, but the service is disappointing. I wouldn't go back.

The place and staff were nice. Unfortunately we waited for a very long time to get our food and when receiving it the burger was completely and thoroughly burnt. The chicken schnitzel was satisfactory. However the sides on both dishes were shriveled. Could recommend just for drinks

Really nice spot to have a drink. Especially if you can get the 1st booth. It's very cosy and you can watch the outside world go by!

Visité este pub dos veces por recomendación de mi hermano y su prometido. La primera vez que fuimos juntos antes de ir al teatro justo al final de la carretera, para tomar algo. Era la mitad de una ola de calor y el patio adjunto al pub es una excelente adición para escapar del calor de Londres. Los precios de las bebidas son precios de Londres, así que bastante altos, pero el servicio es bueno y el ambiente es genial. Los baños son muy estrechos, sin embargo, y arriba, por lo que no es adecuado para sillas de ruedas. Sirven comida, pero yo no he comido aquí. Como mujer, cuando visité a mi mejor amiga, nos sentimos seguras bebiendo aquí, lo cual es muy importante. Es una estética hermosa también con paredes con paneles y un bar precioso en ambos pisos. El personal es amable y toda la gente que he encontrado beber aquí es muy agradable también. Sin duda recomendaría este pub sobre todos los demás si vas al teatro en el Strand.

Great Samuel Smith's central pub with friendly staff.

Ambiance british dans ce restaurant. Menu classique: on est dans la gastronomie locale. Le fish an chips était bon. La saucisse du Kent aussi. Cadre fidèle à ce quon recherche. Sympa d'autant plus que l'addition n'est pas trop élevée.

I booked a table here for a Saturday evening before the theatre performance I have tickets for. I rang them up and asked if they were wheelchair accessible. I was told that they didn’t have a toilet downstairs but they could book me a table downstairs for food and that therefore they were wheelchair accessible. I specifically asked if I could get into the Tavern I was told he would book me a table downstairs and there would be no problems. I turned up on the Saturday in time for my table booking only to find out that there’s a step into the restaurant that was quite steep and they had no ramp. I’m a wheelchair user. I’m paraplegic. I cannot walk. I cannot get out of my wheelchair. How on earth that is Wheelchair accessible, I do not know. that left us scrambling around, trying to find somewhere to eat at 5 o’clock on a Saturday evening in the West End. Disgraceful. I hope the Tavern staff are proud of themselves the way they treat disabled people.

Very loud downstairs. Advises food and loos upstairs but there was a much quieter seating area upstairs.

A different selection of drinks than you usually find, making it worth checking out. The staff were very friendly, and it was a pleasant surprise to see a relaxed and friendly German Shepherd in there today.

Great pub located on the Strand. There are several cozy high booth areas that make it great to have conversation with your group and feel a bit secluded. We stopped in mid-day during the week and were able to find a great seat. Food was good and the service friendly.

We went on a Saturday evening around 10pm. The pub was practically empty. The kitchen is now closed. A little understated.

Lovely place with tasty freshly cooked food, staff friendly and courtious, highly recommended.

I must admit to having mixed feelings about Sam Smiths pubs and the score reflects that. Let's start with the positives. The ground floor is wood panelled making it quite dark. They do have some cosy alcoves which I liked. The upstairs bar/restaurant area is quite spacious and much brighter than downstairs. There is also a small exterior courtyard with seating. I had a pint of Taddy lager at £6.70. They have a very limited selection of spirits, as a whisky drinker I have found their whisky to be somewhat unpleasant for my taste. The service was good. In summary a nice location and nice decor but rather spoiled by the lack of choice on offer.

Great location for a bar snack when going to the theatre in the West End. We came on a Monday night and it was very quiet, the food was good and they even had an organic lager which my friends enjoyed. The downstairs interior has cute wooden booths to sit in.

Not the best. Only a short menu and half was not available. The tables were sticky and the carpets needed a deep clean or replacement. Such a shame.

I recently visited the Lyceum Tavern and had the chickpea curry with coriander rice, which was very good. The flavors were well-balanced and the dish was satisfying. The service was quick and efficient, making the dining experience smooth and pleasant. The ambiance was charming, reminiscent of old places, and very nice, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Highly recommend!

Good food, great service. Bit pricey, though. Paid £26 for fish & chips and a beer.

Beautiful pub with a good selection of drinks. Not cheap, but then again, considering the location, it's not extortionate. Great for a few drinks before.or after a west end show.

Didn't have food so can't comment. Old style pub decor. On a hot day the a/c was welcome. Pleasant place to stop for a beer or two on the way to somewhere else.

One of the many places on my list for too long and it didn't disappoint. Lots of dark wood throughout with little nooks along the left hand wall as you enter. Up a couple of steps to the bar on your right (be wary of the steps - they caught me out twice!), a bench seat along the back wall and a small outdoor area opposite the bar to the left. There is another bar upstairs (closed when we were there) with a standard room on the left and another bench seat along the rear wall. Lots of space to move around in. This is a Sam Smiths pub, so don't expect your standard ales, lagers and stouts, but instead embrace the difference and enjoy. The Extra Stout was excellent and my friend even said he liked the Alpine Lager - wonders will never cease.

Good restaurant, reasonable prices.

Very busy at 6 on a Wednesday, with hardly anywhere to sit, though empty in the upstairs dining area. I suspect most of the clientele were local workers . Didn't stay long so can't comment further. It's a John Smiths pub, so it has some good beer.

Nice little pub, lager £7.50. But hey, that seems to be the norm here in the strand. But cozy little joint with an upstairs too!!

Weird but nice pub. Friendly welcome and service but so dark I couldn't read my When Saturday Comes magazine. Booths are cozy but bad for reading. Cider an improvement on a different Sam Smith's from a couple of years back.

We ate there by chance and everything was delicious. We ordered fish'n'chips, the fish was crispy and not greasy at all. The pie was very juicy, a delicious bbq burger. And the fries! I never thought they could be so good.

To be honest the burger was a little bit dripping but very delicious. Fast and polite service. Would recommend the local beer (Taddy).

Disappointing. Whilst ordering we were told that they didn't have half of the menu, then the server brought two of six drinks and forgot about the rest. When the food arrived they informed us again that some things from our order were not available and would be taken off our bill. The burger was returned three times because the kitchen wasn't able to produce anything else but charcoal. Lastly when the bill arrived, the items that were not available mysteriously appeared on the bill, probably to increase the service fee. We won't return.

Bad Service! They got the order wrong two times. After I got my burger the for the third time it was burnt and nonedible. They did not even have tea or eggs. Overall a bad experience!

Decided to go to the first pub that looked good and we were not disappointed…the food was great, the beer selection was good, and the service was great too. Definitely give it a try if you are looking for great pub fare.

Possibly the worst hamburger ever. It was completely burned.

Excellent fish and chips and very friendly service.

This is no disrespect to our server because she was working so hard and was so short staffed. We ordered bangers and mash and the sausages were so hard that you could not poke a fork through them or cut them with a steak knife. They were completely inedible. When we asked the waiter about them she apologized, but then didn’t take it off the bill as we couldn’t eat them. I do not recommend this place at all and I feel bad for the waiter!!

Love this place, my first pub visit in London and it was fantastic.

Great food and good service and atmosphere

I personally love this place. It's very traditional, has its own beers. The atmosphere is unique and different from other pubs in London. The bitter beer is my favorite one. Completely recommend it!

Nice place for a pre theatre drink, but bangers and mash were disappointing. Wish I had ordered the fish n chips ( which looked good on a neighboring table! ). Booths (for a pre dinner drink )on the ground floor, were lovely and private!

This charming establishment strikes a harmonious balance between traditional British pub vibes with great beer on top. On my first visit, the Bangers and Mash were very good. The next day, I opted for a lighter yet equally satisfying choice—the Caesar Salad. Pair both of those with a nice Pils on tap and you've got an incredible lunch.

Great pub selling Samuel Smiths beers and cider. We found the bar staff rather abrupt. However, we enjoyed the beers and atmosphere.

Lovely old pub with individual, discreet booths downstairs, and a beautiful dining area upstairs. Staff are attentive & and friendly, giving excellent service. Their beer (Samuel Smith) is gorgeous. Go and try it out if you're on The Strand!!

Nous avons passé un agréable moment. Nous n'avions pas l'habitude et il faut au préalable commander au bar au préalable. Ambiance locale très agréable.

Bar staff don't have a clue what they are serving. Useless and expensive, don't bother going here, much better pubs along the same road.

We came on a Friday night, very busy. The area has become touristy but still fair prices.

Stopped here whilst waiting for the theatre to open. There's a good selection of tap ales and lagers and if you time it right there's also a few cosy booths with an old railway carriage feel. A nice pub with average prices for the area.

Had a couple of pints and dinner here. Fish and chips was very good and fresh Bangers and mash also good and swimming in gravy. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were very reasonable for the area.

Just nipped in at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon to get out of the cold for a while. It was very quiet and we were the only two people in the Bar. Greeted by a very pleasant and friendly barman offering an extensive selection of draught beers. The lack of customers in a pub is usually a red flag for a beer drinker however I needn’t have worried as I was served with a Superb well kept Sam smith Stout, and the place soon began to fill up a bit. So if you are ever on the Strand looking for a traditional authentic English Pub selling real beer. Look no further. Definitely on my list of places to visit again.
