Food was good, but felt extremely uncomfortable with both waiters of our table only because I ordered a well done steak. Both waiters made me feel embarassed and even my coworkers agreed they exaggerated on their reaction to my food preferences. Wouldn’t return, and the food is not worth the price or the bad experience.

Really good food and nice atmosphere but a bit pricey

A very disappointing lunch for a party of 10 to celebrate a birthday. Portion control a joke, frozen ham hock terrine, most expensive Caesar salad yet encountered. All in all, a really disappointment for the price. Classic Harpenden!

Decent atmosphere for a lunchtime. Food was good and reasonably priced - except the cheeseboard which is significantly overpriced. Service was poor service, constantly chasing orders that had been forgotten ,,,e.g. ice, tonic, ice cream,,, said yes when offered cheese with linguine starter - never arrived. Waited over 20 mins to place dessert order.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. Service was prompt and friendly, we ordered from the set menu which was great value. Everything was cooked well - and the honey and thyme pudding was absolutely amazing.

Had a fab (walk in) meal here tonight. Attentive service and good food. The set menu is good value, drinks are a bit costly, though the house red was really nice. Nice setting and lively yet comfortable atmosphere.

Visit every time I am in Harpenden. Always wonderful. Would love you to open a branch in Marlborough or Hungerford.

We had an incredible meal today in the private room for our daughter’s first birthday. The booking process was great and they kindly let us bring our own birthday cake. The service on the day was impeccible. Jada went above and beyond, from making sure that our drinks were topped up and the food was correct to setting up an iPad corner with cushions for a 3 year old in our party to enjoy. We couldn’t fault anything!

I hosted my baby shower here in the private room upstairs. On the day we couldn’t have been happier. The manager took good care of us, got all the orders right and the food was very good. The only thing that could’ve made it a full score was the management of the booking, leading up to the day by the reservations team as it did feel like I had to do a lot of the ground work, chasing them for pre-orders, asking for details etc. we were also told that they had a strict turnaround of the room at 2 hours sharp which did impact the games and activities I had planned, but on the day it turns out there were actually no bookings after us and the manager let us relax and didn’t’ rush us.

Went here for the first time tonight for a birthday dinner. Food was out of this world. The place was quiet (which I appreciate!) there seemed to be acoustic helping cloud things on the ceiling. Also appreciated that! The fish chowder was incredible. Service was perfect 🤩 can’t wait to go again.

The food is amazing and delicious. Unfortunately the service today was disappointing. Our mains took a long time to be served, the server forgot to inform the chef to serve my dessert and I had to remind him. Other tables who ordered after us got their food before us and they were also told the specials and not us.

I visited Lussmann in April when they were revamping their menu and enhancing it with new flavors. Lussmanns Harpenden, located in an 18th-century former coach house with a view of Leyton Green, exudes a charming countryside atmosphere. Guests can enjoy outdoor dining in the enclosed garden and have private meals in a lovely first-floor room. We began with Passion Fruit Martini and Chapel Down Gin. Our appetizers included Red Lentil Soup and Thyme Roasted Beetroot, which were not only beautifully presented but also wonderfully tasty. For the main course, we savored Halibut, Corsican Slow-Braised Label Anglais Free-Range Chicken, and Sirloin Steak with fries. We also ordered Seasonal Market Vegetables and fries as sides. I must say every dish was meticulously prepared, expertly combined, and served at the perfect temperature. The steak, in particular, was excellently cooked to a medium rare, just as I had requested. To conclude our outstanding meal, we indulged in Pineapple Carpaccio and Sweet & Bitter Orange Brûlée, accompanied by a delightful cup of espresso. Our waitress, Jaida, was exceptionally cheerful and attentive, and the manager, Michael, was highly professional, ensuring everything ran smoothly. At the end of our fantastic dining experience, I had the privilege of personally thanking Chef Sergio, an affable young talent with a promising future. I want to extend my congratulations to Andrei for assembling such an incredible team. I wholeheartedly recommend everyone to pay a visit to Lussmann in Harpenden for an exceptional dinner or lunch. Like slipping into a warm bath. Amazing food, service, ambience. Posh but not exclusionary. Warm and friendly service but not too much. Went with a 1 year old and everyone was very lovely with her as well. Decent pricing for what is very very good food. First time going to any of the Lussmanns restaurants (moved to St Albans about a year ago) and will definitely be back.

Food was tasty and great variety to choose from of healthy and not so healthy options! Extremely friendly staff, who were attentive and brought great energy to our dinner. Lamb steak and Greek salad was a standout choice!

What a beautiful garden. The main course was not my favorite but the starter (gazpacho) was delicious and the desert simply amazing! Super thin slices of pineapple with almonds and liquid ginger magic. You absolutely have to try it! Congrats to the cook. :)

Being a vegetarian, the choice is limited. For the starter I had Burrata & sourdough bruschetta, the mains Roasted vegetable, Leccino olive & lemon paella ve ( with Barnet halloumi ) and the dessert Navel orange & almond pudding. The food was basic and expensive for what you get. The mains was bitter, mainly because cooked with two lemon quarters. The dessert was ok, however would have expected the taste to be a lot better. Poor value for money. The service was good, however, will try and upsell additions

Sincerity, hospitality, understanding of wishes shown by the staff dispelled dissatisfaction with heavily seasoned children's meals and schnitzel baked dry in too thick batter. The wait staff is the reason to come back for a sample hour of hospitality.

Visited yesterday (Sunday) for lunch. The ambience inside was vibrant, and the food was unquestionably delicious and very impressive, in particular the Caesar salad was the best I’ve had, and the pineapple carpaccio dessert was lovely. Our server was well below par however. She was attentive enough once we had her attention, but that was difficult to gain. She was far too quick to ‘drop off’ our food and then move on to her next task, which made it difficult for us to ask for more drinks and items. Her colleague, a young gentleman server was very attentive and made good eye contact however, and helped us with our needs. The garden terrace area would benefit from better upkeep. Overall the food and drink were absolutely fantastic, and great value, but room for improvement regarding the experience.

Excellent restaurant, really good food and attentive staff.

In looking for a good fish restaurant away from the busy centre of London we came across Lussmanns, a cosy, modern and welcoming place with upscale British fare. They have an amazing selection of non alcoholic drinks and cocktails, not sweet excuses for a drink. Starters were inventive and light, the pea and lovage soup was especially delicious and fresh, it looked thin at first glance but was full of flavour. The fish mains were fresh and tasty, only complaint would be that they were on the oily/buttery side. But that didn't stop us from gobbling them up! The rhubarb and blood orange sorbet was a perfect finish, light and local. Overall very happy with the experience, will return and try other branches

Had a nice meal here with my parents, the staff member was friendly, our food was very good quality. There was a bit of a wait for it and our olives and bread never arrived, very difficult to catch someone's eye here so we didn't bother with it in the end. All in all a nice experience though. Very clean and nicely decorated.

Wonderful place. The whole ambience is pretty with little fluffy clouds on ceiling. Jada is the most loveable waitress ever. The food was very tasty very impressed. Thank you

We just came back from Lussmanns this evening. Wonderful food, amazing, friendly staff, and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you for helping us quietly celebrate my Dad's 80th 😊.

We've been several times for lunch dinner (with kids and without) and the food and service are always excellent. The waitress on Tuesday night recommended a lovely wine to go with our lamb and the chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious.

Wonderful meal, lovely out door setting, warm and friendly service, and a delightfully tasty, fresh meal, will be back soon.

Came for the bike fest. This place was a cheap & cheerful go to over the years for classic on the common, etc. Defo come kicking & screaming into 21st century...totally revamped , on site cafe....same bar as always, toilets pukka, great rock covers band playing in a lovely garden area, all new garden seats & everything has a new lick of paint...what's not to like.

Just returned from Lunch at Lussmanns with 2 friends I have not seen for 18 months. Could not fault it. Delicious food and attention. Friends know a thing or two about good food and gave it top marks. Still the best place to eat in Harpenden as far as I am concerned. Hats off to Chef ( s )

4 of us went to Lussmanns last night, food was average and expensive, nothing to boast about. My friend and I had the fish as a main, £30, quite expensive. I was expecting something truly delicious at that price but even if the fish was cooked properly the jus at the bottom of the plate was tasteless as well as those bits of chopped onions and tomatoes, very disappointing. Not to mention that you don’t even get potatoes, mash or chips for that price, you have to pay for extras. My two other friends had the steak, I think they said it tasted ok but again no complimentary sauce to go with it, you had to pay for it. The service was good but the waitress was doing her job like a robot, not friendly at all. The manager gave us complimentary pudding to make up for the tasteless food but we have all agreed that we wouldn’t be going back there.

Went for a family dinner. Lovely service and people. Food is yummy. I recommend the Sole or fishcakes. Vegetarian or vegan options are a little limited for mains.

Amazing food! The Ox cheek bourguignon was maybe one of the best things I have ever eaten, no joke. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, all round a great experience.

This is our favourite restaurant for so many different reasons, excellent personalised service, superb freshly cooked dishes you won't find anywhere else, sustainable free range or organic ingredients but great value for money. We go here at least once a week but the menu changes with the seasons so it never gets samey. Highly recommended.

Lunch set menu is very good value : 2 courses for £18.50 or 3 courses for £21.50. Recommend the sole fish, was very well cooked and nicely spiced. Service was decent and ambience was warm and inviting

Overpriced food quality average

I went in this restaurant with 5 other guests and, we all had a lovely experience here. The portions were sizable and the food was tasty. I particularly liked that old classics were modernized without denaturalizing the original dish. The waiters were very careful.

Absolutely loved the food, the service and the vibes. I will definitely be returning. It's got a very intimate feel.

Update I came back. Good service. Still far too much salt and butter. Good value but the food was still below par. Asked for medium rare, received rare. Expected so much more. The steak was good but chips über salty. Service was debut quite slow. I would return to give them another chance.

Came here for a meal to celebrate a family member's birthday. The waitress was lovely and friendly and the food was delicious! Pictured are the roasted red pepper starter and the rib eye of bacon main course.

Ate here for lunch recently, was the best meal out in a restaurant I have had in the longest time. Had the Mushroom soup for starters, cottage pie for main and orange and almond sponge for dessert. The food was perfect, really good service and really enjoyed the Wilfreds Spritz non alcoholic cocktail.

Dropped in on the way to the airport, great food and prompt service. Will visit again.

I ate in the outside seating area with a friend, setting was very beautiful - under neath a shady tree with dappled light passing through. We both had the set menu - fishcake was very filling, but we found the sauce salty, the soup was a bit thin too. All very middle of the road. Probably made the wrong choices. Service was prompt and they facilitated us sharing our food, but I felt a cold vibe from the waiting staff serving us. Honestly felt more welcome from another guest that said hello to us. Seems more like a place more suitable for the older couple rather than a place for two young-ish guys. Better off going to giggling squid a little further down the road, a bit more expensive but better value.

My third visit, twice as a large family group where we were able to use the private dining room. Great service and food in a relaxed atmosphere every time.

Excellent food and excellent service. As a Coeliac I require gluten fee food for which there a number of options and they were willing to adapt other non GF menu items. Will visit again.

Went on Thursday 30/6/22 at the Harpenden one, once again the all experience was great, a fantastic and warm welcome when we arrived, food was very good and fresh (we had fish) and the lovely waitress asked us if we were celebrating anything..(we were) and she brought a scoop of ice cream with a candle on it! What a lovely gesture. Once again I have to score a 10/10. We will be back!
