Lucky Star in Wealden

Well I say dinner I put my order in at 5 and it’s still not arrived it’s gone 7 , £3.50 delivery charge and £1.90 admin which is sneakily taken out after you pay , called them and they used every excuse about traffic then proceeded to say they hadn’t even got to my order . Guaranteed it will be here in 30 mins , it’s now 40 mins they take the mick I will not be accepting the order if it actually ever turns up nor will I ever order from them again . They only take cash on delivery which is also really annoying !!!

Great food for a family meal. They paid attention to my dietary needs as well. I would definitely order from here again!!!

First and last time using! Ordered at 6.25pm for my mums birthday and it was delivered at 9.40 - over 3 hours!!! Kept being told it was ‘being packed up now’ we were all starving including 2 kids! Appalling service

When we ordered a takeaway the time was given as 90 minutes which I thought was a long time. 2 and a half hours and two phone calls later it finally arrived. Bloody ridiculous.

I was in a pickle and had to order a delivery takeaway as I couldn’t leave my home. I set up an online account and ordered for 3 hours later. I noticed an email after the delivery from Lucky Star with my bill receipt. Food £20.80…. Delivery £3 (I live about a 90 second drive away, I normally pick up but couldn’t this time) and there was an Administration charge of £1.90!!!! WHAT!!! A total of £25.70 for food costing £20.80….. won’t be doing that again!!! Buyer beware…. Fortune Inn in the High Street will get my business now…..

Beware and check the amount you have been charged as your order may not be complete, which ours wasn't when challenged that they did not send all that was ordered and payed for. They dropped one of our dishes and tried to say that they had to charge for plastic bags which is not mentioned on their website site. What we didn't understand is that the full payment of what we ordered wasn't delivered but was charged for . Please Beware of this takeaway when you challenge them they deny what you ordered

Has not changed in all the years I have been using them (which is 30+ !!!). Good quality, reasonable price and prompt service.

The best Chinese in Hailsham - Delicious Hot, big pieces of tasty meat & prawns. We first used 6 years ago and weren’t impressed but have used again December and January to be very impressed - we ordered a large family banquet and everything was spot on!! Even ordering was east from their site.

I ordered Schezuan beef and Egg fried rice. There was no shezuan/pepper or even spices, I received tiny amounts of chewy beef in a vegetable soup sauce with vegetables. The Egg fried rice has no egg. We also had a side of crispy duck which was not crispy or moist. If it was dirt cheap it may be expected but this cost £50 for 2 people. Absolute rip off, awful food. You could get a better meal for about £5 in Tesco's. It also took around 1.30-2 hours to be delivered. Never buying from them again.

Have always ordered from lucky star with no issues, however tonight we have waited for 2 & a half hours for the food to arrive. When the order was put through we were told an hour and a half, but an extra hour was an absolute joke!! Food was average once we finally got it , doubt we will bother ordering from here again.

Have had many takeaways from this establishment.with no problem.but tonights meal was awful.duck in bbq sauce bitter taste.smaller portions.not at all impressed.binned the lot.

long waiting times made worse by looking at their filthy floor and counter I’d hate to see what their kitchen looks like. Food was below average in particular chicken chow mien was cold and chewy. My 13 year old son didn’t even want to touch it and he eats anything and everything. I’d give 0 stars but I can’t.

Ordered a takeaway on a Tuesday. Had to wait 70 minutes. When it arrived it was cold not even warm. Tuesday's they are not usually busy. Time after time we have to wait for more than an hour. Would not mind if the food was good but usually received cold. Won't be ordering again.

I ordered a home delivery takeaway for two. We waited an hour and 45 mins for the food to arrive which would have been OK had the food been good. As it was, the sweet and sour pork balls were filled with pork that was dry and hard. Clearly not fresh pork at all. They all went into the bin. The chicken chow mein was dry and tasteless. The chicken like the pork dry and chewy. There was nothing good about any of the meal we ordered and I'll certainly never order from this establishment again. If your looking for good food, you won't find it here.

Don’t take more orders then you can handle! I ordered a Chinese at 5.30pm for it to show up at 10.30pm when we’re all in bed waking us up. Not forgetting the fact I tried to call 19 times to see what the hell was going on. Thank you for spoiling are Christmas Eve ended up chucking a frozen pizza in the oven by 9pm because i gave up on the idea the Chinese was coming. At least have the decency to call or answer the phone 5 hours for a Chinese to be delivered absolutely insane. Shameful!

We have for many years had takeaways delivered.never have we had to wait so long.ordered for 18 30hrs.after several phone calls.eventally got our takeaway.at 21hs.unbelievable. with no reason given..very disappointed..an opology would be useful..not going to happen.very very disappoint in their customer relations

We ordered a takeaway from here tonight, wasn’t a difficult choice, basic curry’s chow mein etc but th wait was unbelievable …. It’s now nearly 3 hours since we ordered, will never use this establishment again.

Our local Chinese, and one we use in a regular occasion, however this time dissapointed.Called at 5pm for a delivery at 7.7.30 called to find out where the delivery was, and was informed they were just leaving (we live 10 minutes away).8.00 called again as no sign, as was told they were on the road, could call the driver but they won't answer to phone when driving.8.10 had a call from the driver, just pulling into the road. 1 minute away.5 minutes later arrivedDissapointing, never had these issues before, and have on average 2 per month

Nice staff when you don’t have any issues. I collected my order but they forgot the Chow mien. I called and asked if the forgotten dish could be delivered as we weren’t far and after a tut and a sigh, he agreed and said it would be 15 minutes.It wasn’t. We ate our other dishes after waiting 45 minutes and then after an hour, I called for a refund on that particular dish as it still hadn’t been delivered. The owner then challenged me on my order, calling me a liar saying that he was 100% sure he put in the chow mein - Yeh, because who doesn’t lie about a chow mein…Then said that I should’ve called him earlier to cancel the chow mein I.e. when it had not been delivered after 15 minutes…Said he didn’t do refunds and that instead he’d give me a chow mein for free on my next order. Think he can keep that one to be honest.Wish I’d read the reviews before ordering…Delivery driver was decent though, very apologetic, far more than the staff.But yeh - wasn’t expecting to be called a liar. Looking at previous reviews now, I’m not as surprised as I was at the time.

Not the worst but not far off, vegetable chow mien 8/10, lemon chicken had to be yesterday’s and tough, maybe be re heated to many times, honey spare ribs tough, how can that happen? Unfortunately, despite stating on their site they deliver we were called at 5.15pm to state that the order we had placed for 5.15pm was delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes due to traffic. This is a journey of 5 miles. The order was placed at 11.00 am. I did a traffic check on google. It said 15 minutes. On calling and challenging this I was literally berated by the manager asking why I didn’t care about his delivery driver and wanted them to sit around with my order. Probably because when I asked if you’d forgotten our delivery you went into meltdown and aggravation, rather than explain there was a local issue which I would have accepted. Pity because if you pick up from them they are good. Check out my profile history and you’ll see I always praise good service. However the rare poor service we get is named and shamed. Oh yes and I put in another order to another establishment after that call and surprise surprise the order is on the way. Just be honest with the customer, we can take errors when explained.

We have used Lucky Star for years but no more. The last order was missing a dish, I rang straight away only to be asked to count my dishes as it was there, insulting, we would not have rang them if it had been in there. We were told then that they could not do a refund but would leave a credit there for us to use with out next order.Placed order today, advising we were using the credit. The bloke on the phone said he always made a written note of the credits and there was not one there for us, but he would allow it this time, bloody cheek. We then collected our order, only to then get home and find the rice was missing. We rang straight away and were told that the rice was in the order as they remembered putting it in. Furiously my husband went straight up to the shop to collect the rice, only to be told again that they had definitely put the rice in. As my husband pointed out, we spend £35 on this meal and we were not taking the p*** and trying to con them out of a dish. Terrible customer service. I think they treat people like rubbish because they don't have much competition in Hailsham. I hope another take away opens up and they start losing the customers that keep them going.

We’ve had a few takeaways from Lucky Star Hailsham, always takes ages and food is mediocre at best but tonight was the final straw. £40 + order was Ordered online at 18.12.... estimated delivery 19.52, oh well it’s ordered and paid for now. No sign of them by 8pm so we call them, in a panic, they couldn’t find our order. Manager comes on the line.... we’re just finishing off cooking it and it’ll be with you in 15 mins, we’ll even throw in some extra crackers. Finally arrives 8.40pm with no extra crackers. Didn’t enjoy it as it was usual quality and we were sick with the hunger. Won’t be going back

Been using lucky star for over a year now ! Yes they are hard to get through to and are busy but thats good right ? Tonight for the first time we had a terrible meal it was 20 minutes late usually when late you handle it as the food is good. We phoned to offer some constructive criticism for nothing in return but what we were greeted with was disgusting! Aggressive shouting telling us hes eating the food and can cook it with hes eyes shut i then said your going to lose a customer we were told it wouldn’t matter. Avoid this restaurant you maybbe treated the same

Great food and fantastic service as always, only problem is check you order, for the second time in a row they forgot my egg fried rice. I travel 8 miles to get so to far to go back and sort it out. Otherwise fantastic takeaway

Delivery always late but fine. Last delivery took 2 hrs 25 minutes and delivered to wrong address. In the confusion it wasn't paid for at the door, obviously as wasn't our door! Phoned 2 days later (as working on 1st day and forgot!) and was subjected to a torrent of abuse. Even though I had called to pay, the man was rude and said "we dont want to deliver to you anyway". Have heard him be rude to customers when collecting previously for takeaway. Never again!!

We have been using lucky star for a few months, lovely food in general .however the last two orders we have placed for delivery has been terrible !We were told an hour and 50 minute wait which we understand they are busy . When we called to ask where our order was 2 hrs 15 mins later we were told the kitchen were just cooking it !!!!! We let it go this time as this was the first time we had an issue .Then the same happened again this weekend , only this time when we asked we heard someone whispering to the lady we were speaking to on the phone saying tell them the kitchen are just making it now ! We cancelled and went elsewhere ! We were told it was going to be another 25 mins on top of the 2 and half hours we waited already .Considering we spend a lot of money as we have family ordering Aswell . The customer service is rubbish ! Won’t be using again .

My family ordered three separate orders over the phone and for them all to be places in separate bags as we had to do two drop offs before going home. (Our family members are all in self isolation so it was a massive treat to them all) when I arrived I had to wait over an hour extra to which are good was not ready on the time they said. (I didn’t know whether they were busy so I gave them the benefit of the doubt nor was I in a rush). When my food was given to me I got in the car to check all the food was in the correct bags and that all the food was in there. They left out 4 items to which we had ordered. I then went back in and the rudeness and fowl language they gave me was disgusting! Swearing at me asking me if they thought I was born yesterday.. I was mortified! A family member then called them up and told them that they had heard how he spoke to me and it wasn’t until he found out who my father and grandfather was that he was really apologetic but that is not the point! Who speaks to a 17 year old like that. And the food wasn’t even worth it. Terrible food and tasted smokey. I hope the place rots in hell :(

i would not order from here ever againmy partner made a food order for delivery to be told 8 % will be added to the total bill because food has gone up because of coronavirus, to try profiting when this pandemic is bad is rediculous, you try to keep local buisnesses going and they do that

Our family thoroughly like the food we get from here. Middle of the road pricing. Chinese/Burger bar. Collection or delivery. Parking close by. If this was a restaurant we would eat here. 5*

I am very unhappy due to the fact that I ordered food before the closing time and was refused. This is not what I would expect from one of the only Chinese food establishments in Hailsham. If a restaurant advertises to a certain time then they should honour this! I was told the kitchen had left well before closing and our order before closing had been refused.

Ordered our food at 6:30pm and it was eventually delivered at 9:30pm, cold, greasy and generally poor, quality-wise. Have lived in Hailsham for a few years now and they've got steadily worse. Wil just have an indian from.now on - or drive to Polegate to collect a Chinese. Bloke in the store is also full of himself and rude on the phone. Avoid.

I used the online ordering at 7pm and it said delivery would be one and a half hours. A long wait but it was a weekend so decided to go ahead anyway as it was a treat for the kids. It was £36 however there was a £1.50 delivery charge. 2 hours after I ordered I managed to get through I was told it was just coming out of the kitchen, they knew it was going to be later than the allotted time but I was told they wouldnt use one of their phone lines to let customers know as they didn't want to lose potential customers calling in. They assured me it would be with me in 5-15 mins, however they would knock the delivery off and put some prawn crackers in. I must admit I had always had prawn crackers put in with large orders before but thought they might put some extra in. At 9.45, two and three quarter hours after ordering it arrived. I was still charged delivery and the amount written on the front if the bag was the same as the online order.i queried it with the driver but he knew nothing about it and just apologised for the lateness of the order. The food was hot and tasty, however the batter on the chicken balls was a little stodgy. A small bag of prawn crackers were added, but as I say usually I have those added with a bit order. Very disappointing customer service and he basically lied to get me off the phone, not only with the revised delivery time, but with the delivery charge removal. If they had offered anything off my next takeaway I would have used them again, but never delivery or the online service. But as it is I will find somewhere else.

As a takeaway the place was spacious and spotlessly clean. The food,except forthe king prawn dish,was of a poor quality. The shredded chicken dish contained very little chicken and what there was dried up and tasteless. The noodles were just a bland glutinous mass.The egg fried rice contained little evidence of any egg only three small traces.I cannot believe that in this day and age such bland food available. I have in my long life eaten many Chinese takeaways but this was by far,except for the prawns, the worst i have had.

Well another superb chinese takeaway .delivered within the time stated.arrived hot and ready to eat very tasty.delivery drivers very friendly and helpful..ordering staff equally as good.no problems in ordering.worth using we shall certainly be back.thankyou to all staff.

Ordered via the website, which was very user friendly. Email confirmation was clear and confirmed time to collect. Food was ready at confirmed time and lovely.

Rang up and made a order was told it would be a hour and twenty minutes so we waited that long then walked the five minutes to collect and then waited over a hour in the shop !!!! No apology no information given as the staff all hid out the back !!! Another couple waiting ordered at six o clock and waited over two and a half hours !!!!!! Why lie to people about how long the orders are going to be then act like cowards and hide when you make people wait so long ,, crap place so had to go to kfc in the end !!!! Avoid at all costs !!!!

We have always ordered from this takeaway, although we have waited over 2 hours for our food, we went to collect our food and it still wasn’t ready. We had ordered at 6pm and it is now 9:15pm and still haven’t received our food. Awful service. Very rude service from the staff, and was not offered a refund. ordered food that was estimated to be delivered 1hr 30 minutes after ordering. We were more then happy to wait but to our surprise the order came 3 hours and 40 minuets later. Poor service and lack of communication.

We have used this over the past few years and finally I review it. This is our preferred takeaway and have absolutely no complaints about the food or pickup time. Food is spot on, the price is fine and it’s very popular, so that says everything about it. Enjoy. You can park up a few metres away. It is just off the town centre.

OK, entiendo que es sábado por la noche. . Y ocupados. . Cuando mi marido y yo pedir en 1935. . . . Llegó en 2140. Hambre ahora. . . Piensas que uno. disfrutaría más, pero por desgracia no! Tengo que decir que el satay de pollo salteado fry que era tan sosa tuve que agregar salsa de soja (había) y chili copos. . Mi plato maridos no era mucho mejor! No he tenido una comida de aquí en un par de años debido a el mismo razonamiento, pero pensé que podría haber mejorado con el tiempo. . . . El pollo. . . aunque no muy difíciles. . sabía a que había sido preparado anteriormente y recalentados. . Que gusto. como "madera". Siempre he experimentado los chinos cuando el pollo estaba fresco en la cocina. . . No se necesita mucho tiempo para cocinar en un stir-fry seamos honestos. Me voy en el primer instinto y nunca comida de aquí. Sólo pedimos desde aquí como nuestro favorito Li's cottage es tristemente desaparecido. No nos molestamos en quejándose porque era tarde. . Ahora nos hambrientos y no era necesariamente comestible. . . Sólo así muy decepcionante.

Told the order would take an hour and a half!! Two hours later we rung to see what had happened they said they were just doing it now and it would be 20 minutes- so who knows what they were doing up til then ( we ordered 20 mins after opening so shouldn't of had much of a cue of orders) an hour after this it still did not arrive!! If it had been a big order i would of understood but it was 3 dishes so i don't understand why it took so long!! Food is fine if u want to go there just make sure u go and collect it!!

Was looking for replacement as our favourite has closed. Warm bland food is the best way to sum it up. Two stars because it was cooked to time. I think they are doing too many different things i.e. Chinese, fish and chips, burger to be good at any of them. Needless to say we won't be going back

Lucky star has been in Hailsham a very long time , our family and relatives has always used them . Their food is excellent ! I have never had a problem .Don't waste your time and money using other places .

There is always a great selection to choose from at the Lucky Star. Sweet and sour chicken is a favourite.

The British idea of a good Chinese is pretty hard to grasp. For authenticity look elsewhere, for great sweet and sour pork balls, spring rolls and chicken curry...You're on the money. This sells exactly what you want when you crave Chinese, a little bit greasy, a little bit cheap and cheerful but the flavours you love. I have dietary requirements which they have always helped me with, substituting certain noodles and reading ingredients to me over the phone. The guy that seems to take our order speaks excellent English which makes these issues so much easier! They're quick, cheap and I'm never disappointed.

This has got to be one of the best small takeaway restaurants in the area. Food is great, service great and the prices are great. They also do great burgers. The staff are really friendly and know people by their names!

My wife and I simpley love Lucky Star, it mY take a whike to get your food when it is chokablock on friday or saturday, but that is just because they are so popular. We simply order in advance now.Great job Jonny and the gang at Lucky Star Hailsham.

We have had a takeaway from this location on numerous occasions. The meal previous to this one we had gone for the fixed meal for 2 not a good idea as it was money wasted, the food was of poor quality and the special rice looked like it had been flavoured with tomato sauce. However we decided to go back but this time do what we normally do and select the various dishes that we liked. I must admit far better option, we normally go this way, I had the chicken curry, as usual it tasted like all Chinese curries, crunchy prices of onion, chunks of chicken and that slightly tangy slightly sweet sauce, hubby had the beef and mushrooms and the beef was really tender. We also had the egg fried rice and the chicken chow mien, these were also of a good standard. This restaurant offers a very good selection of meals and are very tasty. It is one of the better Chinese takeaways around here!

Waited over an hour and a half for the food. Half of it was disgusting and the other half bland. I called and explained this to them and asked for a refund, also said they can come and collect the food if they need to. The girl on the phone was polite but when she went to speak to the manager I could hear him swearing in the background. I was told no refund, they've had no other complaints and if I don't like it don't use them again! Outraged is an understatement.

We have been having Chinese takeaways from the Lucky Star for many years and have always found it to be a very good takeaway. Food is always very good and has a great variety of dishes. It is sometimes difficult to get through on the telephone to order on busy times but as we are not far away it is easy to go and order in person. We have used their delivery service on a few occasions which is always good and generally comes in the time they say. Would recommend.

I do not recommend this place at all the food was quite obviously not home made and they couldn't even microwave it properly, Luke warm stodge. Crispy chilli beef was so soggy. Never again.

What is there to say? I have tried the others and these guys are the best in Hailsham. They're prices are very good, the food is always great and I recommend them regularly!

We wouldn't normally have a take-away in Hailsham but we were babysitting so fancied having a take-away instead of cooking.My husband went to Lucky Star to order. It was quite a wait but it was no hardship for him to have a drink at The George pub nearby instead of waiting in the shop.We had pork chow mein, egg fried rice, chicken in black bean sauce and pork ribs. Plus a bag of prawn crackers thrown in for free. We found the food to be more flavoursome than normal Chinese restaurants, particularly the black bean chicken dish. It was inexpensive, we enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.

Great takeaway have used lucky star for many years and will do for many more great price and great service including their delivery drivers keep up the great work!

Having lived in the town for 2 years we tried this Chinese for the first time last week,as it idid sweet n sour chicken balls,the food was very good tasty and good size portions,food was hot we did have to wait but there goes how great it was very busy but be prepared to wait as it worth it.polite sevice and overall 10/10 will be going back there

Worse Chinese take away I've ever had. No flavour, greasy, over coloured dishes. Yukk!! This is what you'd expect from a typical Brits abroad Chinese. Basic and nothing to it.

Been living in Hailsham for three years and I have always used the Lucky Star. The staff have always been very polite and helpful and have gone out of their way to accomodate our needs (removal of peas from veg meal). The food has always been good and the portion sizes are better than most. Im sure that some people will get the odd bad experience, thats life, but i really would reccommend this take away.

We have used this as our local takeaway for a year and have always received the food by delivery on time. The food is always hot tasty and plentiful and the flavours are better than others we have had in the area.

Horrible just horribleI don't understand how this place stays in business.Tiny portions of chips undercooked and wet sausage in batter (cooked from frozen maybe) spat out first bite and dumped the chips too

rung for a take away and gave my card details for payment (£23). then realised I had cash here so said I would pay cash instead. He didn't say he had already put card through so assumed would be fine. paid driver £23. next day I see £37.70 has been taken from my bank. (not even correct amount of my order). waited a few days to see if it went back, it didn't. rung him and he said he would call back next day - he didn't. rung him again he said 'its yout money you have to sort out with your bank'! it has been over 10 days now - he has had £23 in cash (which he admits driver took) and an unauthorused card payment of £37.70. now contacted fraud department at bank.P.S. not jst sayin it but food was not too good, below average.
