Lucky Fox in Sheffield

I used to be a massive fan of Lucky Fox but the place has gone downhill since under new management. I've tried to get my hands on some of the famous fried chicken 4 times this year and it's always closed despite going when it should be open. The staff clearly don't care about opening times. And if the opening times have changed, management should update the sign on the door. Such a shame that a Sheffield establishment is being run into the ground.

They gave our food order to another table and forgot about us. Not sure how, as there were only 4 tables (of two) for 3 servers. After numerous failed attempts to flag the staff down I had to head inside and find someone to see what was going on. Panic ensued and the member of staff disappeared into the kitchen and then the kitchen staff started hurriedly prepping our meals, the manager then explained they'd given our order to someone else. Not wanting a rushed meal after a frustrating wait, I asked if we could pay for our drinks so we could leave - which was met with an attitude as "our meal was coming out". I reiterated I'd like to pay for my drinks and leave, the manager then prioritised cancelling the order with the kitchen first, then came back to me where I eventually paid for our drinks and left. Mistakes happen, but with no apology and more focus on thier own frustrations than mine, I won't be going back in a hurry.

I have only tried the chicken and fries here and liked it. Crispy chips and very fresh crumbed chicken with a choice of two different sauces was really nice and fulfilling. I always ask for the chips without salt because they're too salty for me. The service is not great though; it is quite sluggish. The indoor area is small which is why on all of my visits, I had to wait until a seat became free.

It is a small place that serves one the best fried chicken in town. I would recommend to taste their chicken and waffle with side of mac&cheese.

Insanely good food. As a long time chicken-on-a-waffle enjoyer, I can confidently say I was very impressed by this place. The food was fried to perfection and the portions are pretty big, especially given how reasonable the prices are! The staff is clearly dedicated to the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Love the dingy diner vibe and how comfy it feels to sit and have lunch here.

I had a delivery, The chicken were bland, dry, and not coated properly. Chips were oily, soggy, and tasted terrible. They forgot the sauces. Shame as this place used to be great.

A really lovely January treat! I'm a Canadian living in Sheffield and enjoyed food I would get at home. Okay ... restaurant was freezing ... like bitter! Door doesn't stay shut but was worth the cold for the amazing food. Actual restaurant not immaculate but I thought toilets were. Recommended to all.

Got the standard chicken and waffles but for some reason it took them the good part of a half hour to get it done. Not sure what was going on in their kitchen but so many people seemed to pouring in and out of the place. It wasn’t particularly busy either so not sure why it took them as long but the whole vibe was very chaotic. The food itself was decent so if you overlook the waiting times and the chaos of the place, it’s alright.

Absolutely phenomenal food. The chef recommended wings with their maple glaze, corn ribs and a smashed cucumber salad and it was all amazing. The wings were literally falling off the bone and tasted amazing. The cucumber salad was nice and refreshing, and the corn ribs were phenomenally spiced. I specifically need to shout out their new chef for breathing some new life in to this place. Since she’s been there the quality of the food has sky rocketed and brought it back to where it should be. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Waiting time is too long, food is nice.

The food here is bombbbbb !! Compared to other places i have went to, this place is just perfect. The atmosphere, the food portions, the taste, everything hits right. i was absolutely buzzing to try this place, highly recommended from multiple peers. i went for the infamous chicken and fries and was incredibly excited, the wait time was around 10 minutes and the customer service was excellent, the red haired lady on the till was super enthusiastic and was very helpful to my mum when she was picking out her choice of food, although, she recommended the complete wrong thing. my mother was excited for her chilli fries and quite frankly they were completely underwhelming. my mother poised and ready for her expected chilli con carne loaded fries and to her arrival she was met with a sad looking portion of soggy chips with chilli seasoning and a few jalapeños on top, thoroughly disappointed is an understatement. as for my chick n fries, the fries - just like my mothers - were completely soggy, granted we took them away but for such a highly reputable establishment, there packaging should be more innovative to deliver their customers the best experience possible. on the contrary the chicken was superb, tender, juicy with a crispy flavourful coating, i could see the hype. the order came with a plethora of sauces which i was appreciative of but no cutlery to eat your food with if you’re not an animal. to finish on a lighter note. my sister who is an avid foodie, loved the halloumi fries, and described them as ‘banging’. in conclusion, i would return to this institution but in fore sight would sit in and eat to avoid having such mushy chips.

The best fried chicken in the UK!!!! Definitely get the chicken and dips ($12.50) and you can add a side of fries ($4) and a side of coleslaw ($3) and it’s enough food for two people . And you get so many dips with the meal- it’s great! Warning- there is no salad here. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Service was really good. Atmosphere is COOL. 😎

We often eat here, but our last visit wasn't up to the standard of our previous visits. We had two chicken and fries, chicken was very dry on both plates, and the fries were not as fresh and crisp as they usual are, pickles were also left off both plates for some reason. When the meal you order is called chicken and fries you expect both of the items to be spot on. The drinks we wanted weren't in the fridge, the team found some packaged up but didn't offer to get one out for us to buy. Also please fix the door so there isn't a constant draft when people come and go.

I visited Lucky Fox in Sheffield and I have to say it was a big disappointment. I had a chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce, cheese, and sour cream - it usually also comes with pickles & lettuce but I asked for it without these. I also ordered a serving of fries. I had to wait about 15 minutes but when the food arrived I was extremely excited because they served what I can only describe as a mountain of fries, and I am a HUGE fries lover. However, my excitement was quickly dampened, as I soon realised that every single fry on my plate was soggy and lifeless. It was so bad I had to ask the waitress if this was how it was intended to be served (not sure if this is to their credit or not, but the answer was no). The chicken sandwich was not bad, I mostly enjoyed it; however it’s not something I’d recommend by any means, as one can easily find a better chicken sandwich at several other places and the fries ruined my experience so much that I could not finish the meal. I’ve added two pictures, one depicting the meal as it was served, and the other showing how much I left behind due to not enjoying the experience. This place is all over TikTok, so maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but a bad day it was, and with this being my experience I don’t think I’ll be back to The Lucky Fox any time soon!

Sooo yummy! & staff seemed super friendly too!

Lovely atmosphere, small and cute little restaurant. Had the macaroni cheese and my partner had the Chicken tenders and chips. The macaroni cheese was the best I had ever had. Came with spring onions on which go amazing on a Mac and cheese. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. 10/10

The food is so good and staff are so friendly. Also so dog friendly, every time I have been in the cook has served him some chicken <3 one of the girlies also grabbed him some cream from next door <3

Chicken was dry, looked like it’d been twice fried (excess from previous order) batter way too dark and crunchy. for the price £12.50 for 5 strips, I want juicy chicken. Dips were nasty too. Wouldn’t be going back

Lucky Lucky Fox Customers! Great tasting fried chicken for reasonable price, worth it. Sometimes busy, but a good sign if how tasty the food is. Decent chips too. Lots of options. And now doing local beer. Smiling service staff and saw staff and chef accommodating various requests while there, so flexible too. Definitely a regular town lunch favourite, probably good for evening too!

Not the best fried chicken I've ever had bit also not bad, and the actual piece of chicken on the burger was a bit small for the price point in my opinion. The chips has a nice flavour but lacked a bit of crispiness, I personally like them like this but for some people they might not be to your liking. Overall it's not a bad place to eat of you eat some fried chicken and the shop it's self has a nice vibe and the staff where really helpful

Went with my son as we are both fried chicken fans. Had 5 chicken tenders with fries as an extra. One of the best fried chicken experiences in Sheffield. Light, crunchy well seasoned batter thoroughly enjoyed!!

The food was great, although it took a while to get. It's a very small place and when there is no outside seating, it can get quite cramped.

Had the standard chick n fries - delicous, and very generous on the fries.

Was recommended by a friend, and it was a fantastic experience. Food was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent, even during a busy time. Me and my husband both enjoy fried chicken and it was up there with some of the best. Highly recommended and will definitely return if back in Sheffield.

Best fried chicken burger, and I get crispy chicken burgers every chance I get. Super crispy and packed with flavour. This will be my go to spot. Wish I could eat two meals! Staff were excellent and deserve a shout out.

I came here for lunch with a friend and it was beyond amazing! The atmosphere was cute and our server was so nice! And the food is so worth it for its price - I will definitely be back again to try the rest of the menu!

Hot day needed food and drink went in and to my horror all the food had chilli in it, I can not eat chillies, so I thought I could only have a drink, I explained this to the server and she apologised 1 min later the chef came out and asked why I could not eat their food, he asked what would I eat if it had no chilli in, I said the chicken strips, so he made a fresh batter with no chillies!! I have never had service like this before, usually I just get a funny look and thats it. The chicken was so fresh juicy and I think the best I have ever tasted, it still had herbs and seasoning that was delicious, the fries had a taste I could not make out but again they were perfect. I will now always eat here when in Sheffield. Thank you so much xxx

Best place ever, I can not eat chilli and all the food her is spiced, so was prepared for a drink then go, but the chef came out asked why I could not eat his food told him he said no problem and then made me a Fresh batch of batter for me. The chicken was beautiful, I will always eat here now on every visit to Sheffield. Its a must eat at venue

This used to be the go-to place for chicken in Sheffield but they have removed the famous gravy from their menu. The gravy made the meal and because of this we will not be returning unless the gravy returns.

I have waited one hour for some chips and fried chicken, and then I realised that the waitress has lost my order. Also i had to go to a coach machine because they didn’t have any card machine working. Absolutely disgusting

The chicken burger was in top 5 ever and the fries were number 1 by a way amazing. The cheese sauce is best I've had too. I'm from Leeds so no bias

Very nice atmosphere. I had the chicken and fries which were delicious, although there wasn't much else on the menu... Basically half the plate was fries which I didn't mind because you also got 3 large bits of chicken. I had to finish my friend's chicken and waffle which was also very nice. Would say its very good value for money.

Really disappointed when we visited last Friday. Had to wait over an hour for our food, could see you were very busy. Chips were also a mix of undercooked mush and burnt bits. I tried to show my girlfriend a Sheffield icon on date night, but left underwhelmed.

It is a nice place to enjoy delicious chicken pieces. And you can't forget the different variety of dips they have. In addition, it is nice to enjoy some sunshines from inside. So, I can say that it is a highly recommended place for these days when you don't want to prepare your meal at home.

One of my faves in Sheffield!! Unbelievably tasty food, the best fried chicken and chips in Sheffield for sure. Lovely, friendly atmosphere where the staff can't do enough to make your visit the best experience they can. Great tunes too!!! Love love love!!! Will be back soon enough!!

Fantastic food and service! It is a small restaurant with not many tables, but if you manage to get one, you’re in for a treat!

From outside this doesn't look like much, but I'm glad we went inside. It was busy, so we were lucky to get a table, as there was limited seating. The food took a while to cook, but it was worth it. The chicken burgers and pieces were delicious, and the fries were fantastic. The potion sizes are very generous. If you love fried chicken you must try this place.

If I could give more stars I would. We went in for take out, my boyfriend had decided he wanted mac and cheese but unfortunately they didn’t have enough for a normal portion to have as a meal - so he decided on chicken strips. When we got home with our food, they had made him a small side of mac and cheese with whatever they had left!! I just thought it was so sweet that they had gone out of their way to give us a little extra! Chicken was absolutely gorgeous and the fries were so good, will definitely be eating here again!

PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD MENU! Before I would have recommended this place 100% specially for their chicken and waffles (which was amazing), but unfortunately they do not include this meal anymore in their new menu. I ordered their chicken burger with fries which I found was too salty and the fries were too greasy. This place used to have a very unique and tasty menu and now it's just mediocre fried chicken restaurant.

The amount of chips is fabulous and the taste is delicious 🤤

Maaaaate. Such friendly, upbeat service. 90's hiphop vibing the already soothing and stylish decor up. Chips are truly a piece of art (1 place in a 100 serves chips this good, why don't everybody do 'em like this?? 😂) and the spicy mayo and chipotle sauces... By the Gods. Don't miss this place!

This is my fav place for food and used to go almost every week however since they changed the menu I’ve not been back ! Mac Lovin is gone ? The chicken wings are gone ??? Where’s the waffles gone ! That’s the reason we would come please change back to the old menu !

Dropped from a 5 star to a 2. The recent menu change has removed the absolute best off the menu. We sat down, checked the menu and left. I do hope they consider reverting the menu back. :(

Food and service were both fantastic.

They helped us out of a hole when we were let down by another establishment and needed something tasty to eat in a hurry before a gig! The food was excellent - the chicken and fries were delicious. It was also good value for money. The service was brilliant too - friendly and attentive, and crucially very quick! The only slight negative was the very expensive prices for small cans of beer - better to drink elsewhere, but the food was great. We’ll be sure to make this a regular stop for food when in Sheffield city centre!

I won’t be returning.i used to eat here regularly but not no more.been today and got charged 2.80 for a can of coke.and £12 for fries and 3 tiny tacos.and the collect your food when your buzzer rings.honestly guys n gals give your head a wobble looks to me like the whole place has gotten lazy.this was a great place to eat real comfort food but now a shadow of the good ole days but I suppose Cash rules everything around me LUCKYFOX get the cash dollar dollar Bill y”allllll

Very small menu, some staff friendly, guy who served seemed annoyed and not so friendly, I asked for no garnish on top of my chicken which was chilli's, I saw the kitchen staff put garnish on mine then realised their error and picked most of the garnish but left some on and served it to me, not quite what I asked for really.

I got my order takeaway. It's an excellent independent business with friendly staff. Very tasty chicken and flavorful fries. Portion sizes are more than you'd expect! It's the best and highest quality fried chicken I've had in Sheffield. Highly recommended - give it a go! 😁

What have they done to the menu ? This used to be the best fried chicken place ever and now they only have two chicken options , the rest being replaced by bagels and desserts and none of the famous sides ! We sat down , looked at the menu and walked out. So disappointed.

Best chicken I’ve had in a long time, chips were amazing and really good value.

Used to absolutely love this place but they seem to have recently changed their menu and was really disappointed after our last trip. The chips are now really sweet and a bit greasy and they only have 2 chicken options on the menu now and no on the bone chicken!!? And worst thing - no more gravy! 😭 bring back the old menu please!

I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this is not only the greatest chicken I've ever had but greatest chips too!! Always go here when I'm celebrating here because it's the actually the nicest food you'll ever have (and the portion sizes are insane, in a good way, they aren't stingy with the food).

Been to the Lucky Fox on 5 separate occasions now, and it’s safe to say the food is absolutely outstanding one of my favourite places to eat in Sheffield. However; On the 5 occasions I have been I have only had access to the full menu 1 time due to lack of ingredients. Also out of the 5 times I have been I have only actually eaten 3 times. The two occasions I was told I could not be served were very frustrating as the reasons were: Not taking anymore orders at 3:10pm when the closing time is 4:00pm. The second one was due to them being busy they were not taking anymore tables for an hour and a half to prepare more stock. This is very frustrating when you have travelled nearly half an hour to have some really good too quality food to be told no for what I would say are less than adequate reasons. I hope they can iron out these issues I have seen other people with similar views as myself. If you can get served then the restaurant is absolutely amazing and the whole menu is worth a try!

Decent food at a decent price, but the service was good awful - having to chase drinks and aspects were missing from the meals - staff were unpleasant and acted like they were doing us a favour.

Small, friendly restaurant serving very tasty fried chicken. What's not to like?!

Had food from Lucky Fox for the first time this evening and was impressed. The place has a nice vibe, probably should've booked a table and eaten in to be honest - good excuse to go back, though! The staff were friendly and seemed very organised; I'd ordered to collect, and the food was ready bang on time. I had chic 'n' waffles and they were delicious; really tasty chicken and the waffles were nice and soft, so you could wrap a piece of chicken in a piece of waffle no problem. Good portion size, too, and the cinnamon butter is a great accompaniment. I can highly recommend the chic 'n' waffles, and I'd love to try some of the other items on the menu.

Extremely Slow, Waited for 1 hours to get our meal. I don’t understand why the people came later than us and got their meal much earlier. Ridiculous.

My partner and I waited for over an hour just for a waffle and chick n fries. It's extremely distressing to see the couple next to me (who came more than 10min after we had ordered) have their food first. The server was quite hostile as well when she was serving the meal.

Really tasty meals and good value for money. Went in to the restaurant for lunch yesterday and ordered the lucky box and every aspect was delicious. Great friendly service too! Thanks all.

The restaurant was an excellent but last time the guy who works there was very rude with us without any reason.

The food is delicious (I love the chips!) but I was not very pleased with the hot wings though, the sauce on them has too much vinegar and there's too much soureness to feel any other flavours. And the hot chips have the same sort of flaw... Oh...and there's also the waiting time which was too much for my starving belly...but is worth the wait as the regular chicken and chips is great! Also, the music is groovy and made the whole experience very enjoyable :)
