Loys Chinese Takeaway in Isle of Wight

Although this was a walk-in, therefore the food should have been cooked whilst we waited, the food was lukewarm, in fact the chicken skewers in satay sauce looked as though they had just been defrosted in the microwave - but not actually warmed up. Having said that they were the best part of the meal. The spring rolls were tough, not crispy (possibly also frozen?) and tasteless. Their menu states 'authentic Chinese food', yet the crispy shredded beef is served in OK sauce! And there should be a prize for finding the egg in the egg fried rice.

Ordered from here tonight and myself and my partner were very unimpressed. The chicken was so dry and the rest was so bad tasting. I personally will. Never be ordering from here again.

First time I've ordered from here as my usual choice of takeaway is temporarily closed. Definitely a blessing in disguise, one of the best takeaways we've ever had. Everything was beautifully cooked, tasted great, everything came in very good portions, and from ordering to delivery was about 40 minutes (on a Saturday night). We even got Three one pound tokens ( guessing it's £1 per £10 spent) which we weren't expecting. This has now become our first choice for Chinese takeaway in Newport 👍👍👍

Food arrived late with stuff missing, was only lukewarm. Had to then wait for them deliver rest of order.

I ordered food at 515 and still waiting at 8 o'clock iv tryed ringing them lots of times and I recon that took phone bin took off the hook will not get food from here again

the website says it's free Delivery over £20, I ordered almost £30 and they wanted to charge £1.50 for delivery. and I live 500m from the store. isxusci. do not buy

We were really disappointed with the food and service after being recommended this takeaway from my my Mum who has been going for over 2 years. The food was not nice on this occasion and we were missing a lemon chicken as we live in Ventnor we were unable to go back and get the missing item (I am expected to drive through for a refund) we would of just got a lemon chicken the next time, but we’re unimpressed with the food. My mum has said the last 2 times she has been here the food is not as nice as usual. It’s a real shame as we were looking forward to enjoying more meals from here.

I stopped using Loys about 18 months ago but decided to try them again. It used to be too greasy and soggy. I must say after using them again I found the food to be much better and will continue to have their takeaways. Well done! Pride in your food is a must and you’ve achieved a far better quality than before. A1

I ordered the chicken in black bean sauce, egg fried rice, and prawn crackers. The prawn crackers were missing from my order, and the chicken was disgusting. Really cheap, processed, soft, chunks of chicken. I couldn’t eat it. The rice was so dry plain, no peas and barely any egg. I definitely won’t be ordering from here again. 🤢

Rubbish service. Online order made at 17.25 still not arrived at 7pm told it would be delivered between 30-40 min (only one driver) contacted again at 8pm told to cancel the order which he confirmed. Order then turned up at 8.40 to which I turned away the order as I had gone to the local chip shop. Don't bother with this take away 😭

We've tried nearly every Chinese in Newport over the years, and they've all been a bit hit & miss and never quite up to expectation. Our usual was closed on Valentines Day 2023, so we opted to try Loys for the first time. We were very pleasantly impressed! Ordered in store and wait time was only around 15-20 minutes even though they were very busy! Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls were perfect and you got 10 in a bag! The Sweet & Sour Sauce was delicious, a lovely thick consistency and great taste, not to mention the pot was huge! We normally have to order extra sauce but needn't have bothered as one pot was more than enough for the 2 of us (and I like to drown my dinner in it). Egg fried rice was fresh and fluffy. Hubby said his Chicken Chow Mein was the best he'd had in years. It was all very reasonably priced too coming in at around £17. People complaining about delivery times? Can only assume they ordered on a weekend night, or a public holiday/celebration. It's no different if you order delivery from any other privately run takeaway. Always best to go in store personally as you never wait long. Safe to say we've now found our new favourite Chinese Takeaway and won't bother going back to our previous one.

*Zero Stars* Do Not order from here!!! We ordered Takeaway on a Monday so not busy compared to a weekend. The food arrived after an hour, it was the wrong order when it was delivered. My wife called up and they got the driver to deliver the correct order. The correct order came quickly however not the whole order was delivered 2 items were missing. The items that were delivered were luke warm at best. My wife called again and the staff member spoke to his boss. This conversation had between the manager and staff member was that of moaning and complaining that they had to come again. The manager reluctantly said he would come and deliver the items himself. 20 minutes later the manager came to the door. The manager said nothing, no apologies of any kind my wife said that she wasn't happy with the service recieved and silence fell. The pause was uncomfortable. The manager sheepishly handed the items and wispered sorry and walked away. We have since received a phone call from them offering an insulting apology of free prawn crackers and £10 off my next order. After today's experience we will NEVER be eating there again. I hope people read this and won't make the same mistake as we did and order food from here.

3 hour wait , do not recommend very rude also also forget food

Waited 2 hours for food when It came items missing and refused to send another driver out to deliver missing items

Placed an on line order at 17:45 with a 40 - 90 minute delivery time after ringing to check how long it would be I got the impression that they hadn’t even started it, arrived after the 90 minutes and the order was completely wrong, I called and they sent the driver back, he had a second delivery and again wrong, eventually dropped of the right order but by this time it was over 2 hrs, the food was mediocre using frozen processed chicken and the sweet and sour king prawns were all in one carton so the batter was sloppy, rest assured we won’t be ordering again.

Ordered food which arrived 2 HOURS after ordering We rang to find out where it was and was told it was on the way. 20 min later it arrived ( baring in mind we are only 10 min away), Luke warm with barely any apology. Half of it was thrown away as it wasn’t nice at all!

Our normal Chinese was so busy we tried Loys and the fact they could deliver to us we hoped it could be our new Chinese. HOW WRONG COULD WE BE!!!! After being told 45mins to 1hr we called after 90minutes to be told another 30 mins, calling after a further hour it finally arrived. Over 90minutes later than they said, AND WE WERE STARVING!! When we unpacked we realised we were missing items that we had paid for. When we called we were offered £5 off the next order that barely covered the missing items. NO THANKS !! When we eventually tucked in to our meal the chicken balls batter was not fully cooked and the meal was warm at best.

AVOID! Shocking service and poor food! Rude person on the phone, waited over 2 hours for small order when told 40 mins! Food soggy and cold. Clearly all staff including 'manager' needs training in customer service!.

We ordered Spring Rolls, Duck Rolls, Beef Panggang, Chicken in Plum Sauce, and Thai Coconut Rice. The Panggang was horrible. The texture of snot and no taste at all, we couldnt eat it. The Plum Sauce was, again, tasteless. The duck wraps were nice but the ends were burned and did not taste nice. The Spring Rolls were all beansprout and unseasoned. The rice was lovely! We won't be back unfortunately.

They completely got our order wrong. Then, when called to say we were missing a dish and had an incorrect one, they said we needed to pay the £3.40 difference, even though it was their mistake and we would be eating our food separately! They also asked for the wrong dish they sent us to have back! Not sure what they planned to do with it?! Give it to someone else? They then called suggesting we were lying and that we did receive the missing dishes because the chef remembers cooking them?! Lost my appetite very quickly - on my birthday too! Very unprofessional and rude. Please do not use them!

Ordered a large takeaway to be picked up, was prepared quite fast, with a phone call to double check which was nice. Didn't get the order wrong which was brilliant, lovely man behind the counter, food tasted really nice. BBQ ribs didn't really taste of BBQ, bit sweet but they did taste awesome and i will be coming back for more. Decent chips, they should've been a bit more crispy but tasted well and had a decent portion. When ordering on the website, it said if i collected the waiting time would be 20 mins but if i wanted delivery, it would be 90 mins so not sure how that works as the island isn't that big or busy this time of year. The building itself looked run down, was hard to spot and the inside waiting area was also a bit unpleasant. But, overall, really nice and i will come back for seconds! EDIT: Ordered from here a few more times, unfortunately had the order taken down wrong and the guy on the phone offered no help or responsibility for getting the order wrong, also quality has started to lack, e.g. not properly cooked chips etc...

Decent food, service has improved massively since the last time I went in.

Good food but constant delivery issues, sometimes up to 3hrs. They still take your order knowing this and don’t call you to advise situation. It has happened many times but worst today. Delivery times cannot be trusted and they remain to service walk in customers so online orders are constantly out prioritised. There are many other Chinese take away outlets in area which manage this better and do not have issues. A Saturday night ruined thanks to these guys wasting 3hrs of my evening, when focus should be relaxing it becomes fixated on poor delivery issues having to chase them only to be told after over or ding 2hr previously they haven’t even started cooking it! No apologies or respect given to long term loyal customers.

This was our go to take away, no longer! Great Chinese food but constantly break delivery promises. I was told 45-90minutes initially then 2hrs later still no food arrived! Called them only to be told 45-60 min longer. They hadn’t even started cooking my order. That’s 3 hours! They still continue taking more orders when they cannot make existing delivery commitment . They have always been a bit late but to not be cooking food after 2hrs is not on! Very disappointed and now will have to find an alternative after 4years of being a loyal customer Food was very good from here.

Had various dishes for 4 people tonight everyone was really happy and enjoyed what they had.. Myself, I had mixed meat and cashew nuts, which was delicious….

Ordered our food at 1803 and got out dinner at 1940 not even an appology .. won't use it ever again and it was cold and no prawn crackers feel royally ripped off to be honest

Ordered a take away at 6pm - still not out for delivery 3.5 hours later - fobbed off each time when called to check until last call at 2130 when cancelled due to sheer rudeness of staff

We tried Loy's as our usual takeaway was closed, both my partner and I both had a soup and curry, which was a mistake as it was the the blandist food we'd ever tasted. The soup was like someone had made it with just water and a Oxo cube, the curries were both bland in taste but really sweet, the sauce itself was like congealed jelly warmed up. Complete waste of money, will never be getting my custom again.

When we took the food out of the bag back at the holiday park, it was how much, enough to do us 2 days, so for quantity 5 Stars. No complaints from the wife or 3 girls regarding the food, but I had chicken curry and for me it was a bit bland. My local from the very first mouthful, you can taste the curry, but this for me was like a sauce with some spice thrown into it to give it some heat, needs a bit more curry taste. Other than that, it was good to eat and providing they sort the bland curry sauce, yes I would recommend. I would give 4.7 Stars out of 5.

Really good food, always friendly, the salt and pepper chicken is one of my favourites, and mixed meat chow mean with the sauce and I'm in heaven, in my opinion one of the best Chinese on the isle of wight.

When you try loys chinese food, your getting quality, and is cooked to the highest started, food speaks for itself tastes great

Food is normally good but the delivery times is appallingly bad. When calling again after an hour wait we were told by a very rude employee that it’s out for delivery when in fact it wasn’t.

Chicken balls are a mass produced frozen product and the curry very bland very dissapointing ,used to be lovely but standards have dropped

Food took nearly 3 hours to turn up as we ordered through the online website. Wasn’t what I expected all the meat was over cooked and the chicken ball batter was undercooked will not be returning For a while . Had no problems before manager came to my house and gave me a refund and said sorry for the delay and that they was 3 staff not in and told me next time to call and order so they can say how long delivery will be which is understandable we expect the apology and got a phone call the next day to make sure everyone was okay and to hope we will return soon

Friendly staff, fast service and delicious food. Very good Chinese Takeaway restaurant, with competitive pricing and wide variety of menu options. Delivery is available but I went in for collection and didn't wait much more than 5 minutes for my order. Very happy; have been a few times recently and will go back again. Thank you very much!

We have been loyal Loys customers for nearly 20 years and have never had a problem until yesterday. The previous owners were lovely. The new guys must have had a issue with their computer system (or data entry) but instead of admitting / realising that, they accused us of calling and placing multiple orders (PO30 AAA, come on, it's not even a postcode, including ours!). So they cancelled our order (and that of 4 others apparently). When we called to chase an hour later, instead of admitting their error and apologising, they were defensive and belligerent. We went elsewhere and will continue to do so.

Best Chinese food on the island, very friendly too

On a recommendation we tried here when we first moved to Newport. We have been here 6 years now and wouldn't eat here if you paid me. Simply worst Chinese I've ever had. Threw most of it away.

ordered food , told an about an hour , 1hour 15 mins later , I called told they are very busy that food will be soon , almost 2hours and still no food , called again and was told they busy , but they can do it if i collect , already asked for delivery , told them to cancel order , never again will i use them , this was the first time and last time

Great food, nice portions and very quickly prepared. It's not great for collecting in a car though as the parking outside is often full.

Awfull Chinese, do not go to this. The spring rolls are just a hand full of bean sprouts in batter and deep fried. Sweet and sour chicken is chicken nuggets and a polystyrene cup of sweet and sour sauce - the sauce just taste of vinegar. The rice is hard and over cooked apart from that quick service.
