Lowfell Fish Bar in Gateshead

1st time visit and definitely won’t be going back. Terrible service and attitude of the staff abismal. Queued for around 10 minutes, even though only 2 people in front of me in the queue. Anyway, eventually I got somewheat to the front of the queue, when one of the woman asked if i need anything cooking. (Yes the food i’m about to order). Anyway i said fish bites, and an older lady proceeded to throw them in the oil. Now at the front of the queue being ignored, i waited and waited awkwardly until a few minutes later another girl asked me what i wanted and i said fishbites, chips and a kebab, she just looked at me and said ‘ok’ and then proceed to go off and do something else. So i waited by the counter again, until i eventually had to say something and asked them to please take my order. Well, after look of disgust from the girl she took the rest of my order then proceeded to go off again leaving me at the counter. I asked another woman can i pay for my order, to which she said you do that at the end. Well, knock me down and call me Sally, but not once did any of the staff clearly provide instructions to me of the ‘next steps’ in this absolute monstrosity of customer service, communication would be nice instead of me having to ask!!!!. 20 minutes later my fishbites were done then i paid. To top it off, the chips weren’t even cooked through, and looking at other reviews this isn’t a one off!!!!! Seems like a little training in basic customer service and communication wouldn’t go a miss!! Oh and also someone else to cook the chips!!!

Nice fish shop but on few occasions like today we called asked for chicken burger to be put in instead of standing waiting for ages, the older lady said I put it straight in for you I stated we be 10 mins, when we got there no chicken burger in no apology or explanation we had to wait 35mins I feel I need to write this as it's not 1st time it's 4th time not happy as was in hurry

Ordered two meals for delivery - they arrived in good time however the food was cold, the chips were old. The chicken was dry, kebab meat slimy. The food went in the bin after I messaged Low Fell Fish bar to complain they sent one replacement dish even though I said not too - I wanted a refund. The delivery driver who returned was full of apologies - I showed him the food he had delivered too. They refused to refund saying they had "lost food" because we wouldnt accept one replacement dish? I had one taste of the Shawarma and have felt sick since.

Had a call from their number claiming to be Three network services. Hung up on me when I said I didn't have an account with Three. Came up with the chippy's number and business name. Weird.

Best chippy in the area always great fish and chips, never had a bad one there, it's better than my local chop shop, I drive past my local chip shop to go there, as mine is rubbish, Great staff aswell 10 out of 10 for me

I would not return. Fish was dry and mostly batter and chips were bruised, dry and cold. Very dissatisfied.

We popped in here after a quick visit to my parents house, bought fish & chips for all the family, git yo say I was not disappointed, food was 10 out of 10, great service, priced fair, excellent portions & friendly staff, better than any chippy in Newcastle, deffo be back.

I have been with a friends a few times. It has been good, but it was quite greasy. Great chips and batter and friendly staff. Also very cheap.

I love my fish & chips, best takeaway food available so am very picky when it comes to where i go with my family, we travel 15 miles regularly to come here, the fish & chips are outstanding, always friendly staff & great service. 10 out of 10 for taste and they wrap the fish & chips in the paper, old school, just tastes 100% better than anywhere else

Have used this chip shop for 60 years, through various owners. Food and service has always been good. Would recommend to anyone. Suspect the poor reviews are trolls from friends of rivals. Portions are unhealthily large! Top tip is to place an order, cross the road to the Black Horse and then go back to collect your ready wrapped order.

Fish was days old and tasteless and batter was like concrete. Cannot believe they would serve this up. Couldn't eat it - total waste of money. Shame, used to be the best fish and chips in Gateshead. Even my dog couldn't stomach it.

I got fish and chips last week from here and they were disgusting the fish especially there was a tiny bit of fish inside and mostly all batter we were very disappointed sorry but a won’t be back anytime soon

If you like white tasteless chips then go here. Used to be a good chippy but not anymore. I bought 3 bags of chips costing 6quid and i wish hadnt bothered. Completely tasteless and most the chips wernt cooked through properly,ended up in the bin.

I've been here a few times now and both the food and service have been consistently good. Staff are friendly and the service is pretty quick (despite the queues outside) The chips are lovely and the portion sizes are decent. It's become my new favourite chippy :)

Really good, usually split a fish and Chips between us, when going elsewhere we realise how good the quality and portion size is, the only downside is that the wait can be excessive but worth it.

I have called here, on and off, for well over twenty years and the food has always been good. It is one of the few places that has stood the test of time. Whilst they have diversified slightly over the years, it still remains a good, honest, old style fish and chip shop. The staff are friendly and it is always spotlessly clean. Prices remain reasonable.

The Fell Fish bar has been established as far back as i can remember.Very good food.Extensive menu.Usually busy.Not the easiest for parking.

I won’t come here again. Horrendous fish and horrible chips. Every time we have went it has been terrible.

Food is good enough but can’t get past the horrific service. So miserable and rude, not sure if the staff are aware it’s okay to smile, got filthy looks after asking probably the most common questions you hear in a fish and chip shop. If working in a fish and chip shop makes you that miserable then maybe find another job. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but such a let down

Never used this chip shop for years. Read good reviews, thought I’d give it ago.Que was out the door, I got 2 fish and chips and 2 cartons of peas. Fish was over cooked and dry, chips were ok, but could of done with more. Not the best fish and chips around.

I don’t really like this place. The fish and chips are far too greasy. The fish isn’t very nice and the chips are very average.

The Lowfell Fish Bar is not the best the chips are far to salty and it takes ages for them to give you your food.

Always excellent. Freshly cooked fish and chips and generous portions. One portion of chips enough for two of us!

Large fresh fish, massive portions. Cooked to perfection, all served with a smile. It does get busy at tea times, so be prepared to wait.

We were recommended this takeaway by the hosts where we staying near Beamish & it was worth the drive as both mumsie & dragon-in-law said it was probably some if the best fish & chips they’d ever had.

This fish shop has maintained a very high standard for many years. Definitely the nicest food and lovely staff to serve it.

Got some chips at 3pm today and they have always been lovely, not today they were absolutely rank, some were hard others were like rubber they had obviously been kept warm for quite a time, i have been going there for a long time and don’t know what’s gone wrong but they are going downhill had a meat Pattie and a sausage a few weeks ago they went in the bin aswell,sorry but wont be going back

Thousands of fish and chip shops in the UK but I am totally biased as granted I have been to many far and wide but my local hippie is cracking!Service always with a smile and you can phone in but cash only

This chip shop is consistently the best chip shop around Fish is excellent, chips are proper traditional chips and the kebabs are nice too

Smashing chippy with big queues especially on Bank Holidays. Not let the people of Low Fell down for years!

Don't be put off if they are Quinn out the door. You will soon be inside. Fast friendly service of good quality produce. We had fish and chips and it was excellent and the portions are substantial. Will be back for more

This is the favourite fish and chip shop when visiting the Grandparents. The fish is normally cooked to order and is consistently good. They also do chicken and doner kebabs as well as all the usual fish shop favourites.
