Love to Eat in York

We were celebrating a special birthday so booked afternoon tea for 27 people including adults, children and several people with allergies and everyone was catered for without any issues. Fiona was brilliant at communicating right the way through the booking and on the day everything was delicious, the cafe was set up beautifully and nothing was too much of a problem for her. I would highly recommend using Love to eat for a private function and we will definitely be back again in the future.

This is my partners favorite cafe in York and I went with her today, iv been in the catering industry for over 30 years and my experience today was amazing, every single point they’ve thought about and the food you can tell it’s at the highest ingredients, I had the large breakfast and my partner had the vegetarian breakfast both amazing and already thinking about when our next visit there is going to be, thank you to all the staff you should be very proud of yourself for making it the best cafe in York by a mile

We were staying at a local caravan site and wanted somewhere to have a late morning breakfast. I found this place on Google and rang them. They could fit us in but said it would be busy by 12 noon. We arrived at 11:15 and were give a table that was pre-booked for 1.15pm so we had plenty of time. Most of the tables had reserved on them and it filled up shortly after 12 noon. The staff were very friendly and the full English breakfast was lovely and plenty of it. It’s the little things that matter. I like weak tea so usually ask for the bag to be left out, I forgot to ask but it came that way. The plate with brown & ketchup sachets on had a small pair of scissors, they are often very difficult to open. When we are in the area again we will certainly go back there.

Had a fabulous afternoon tea with a group of friends. Staff were so friendly, all our dietary requirements were catered for and the food was delicious. Thanks so much.

Stopped for a working breakfast while my car is being repaired nearby ~ a lovely, bright place with really comfy chairs! My breakfast was delicious, cake and coffee were a treat and the service was perfect. I was greeted cheerfully and would definitely visit again if in the area. Much nicer than your large chain options close by. Thank you 💗

First noticed my daughter’s coffee cup looked as though someone had drunk coffee out of it, stained brown. Checked my own cup. Red spots just around rim plus brown marks. Though it was in the glaze. Rubbed it. Came off. Had ordered a meal so tried to ignore it but it did put me off. Our meal arrived and then a troop of cyclists came in so they were busy and I didn’t want to cause a fuss so just paid and left. Won’t go there again though.

Called in for a quick Saturday morning breakfast and as always it did not disappoint. I had the full breakfast and my partner had the Vegan breakfast. We chatted while we ate about how perfect the food was and how there was no way of improving on what we had it was perfection 😍 we would highly recommend eating here it’s light years ahead and we will be back again soon 🥰

My daughter and I went for brunch and had a lovely small cooked breakfast and a breakfast bap, followed by cake. Service was really good, food was delicious and all at a good price.

Brilliant full English breakfast. Top quality locally sourced ingredients, and nice little touches. Like, a little pair of scissors with the HP sauce sachets, and serving the plum tomatoes in a glass ramekin to stop the juice swimming on the plate. Can’t wait to go back again.

Delightful eatery. Had a full English breakfast and the food was delicious and staff were friendly and polite and attentive. They had a what looked like a lovely selection of cakes which I will no doubt try sometime.

We ordered a takeaway afternoon tea for six for delivery during a stay in York for a friend's baby shower. We booked a week or so in advance and ordering was easy, and delivery on the day was prompt and friendly. And the afternoon tea - delicious! Wide selection of cakes and sandwiches and the scones were definitely the highlight! We warmed them again in the oven but even if we hadn't they were the star of the show. Would definitely recommend to people staying in the area.

Ridiculous that anyone feels the need to slate a fantastic, independent business! The fact they believe that £13 each for lunch is expensive says it all! Love To Eat is such a welcoming, relaxing place to be and myself and my family have visited her pretty much once a week since Fiona took over. Food is always fantastic quality and generous portions. They also outside catered for my dad's birthday and the spread was such good value for money and every bit of it was fantastic! If you don't book a table then yeah you might have to sit outside....that's your fault not the owners! Go to Tesco!

Visited this weekend with a friend. Was very busy but staff were very accommodating and managed to squeeze us in. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was top notch.

Firstly, breakfast for 3 people cost £40. ‘Extra Chorizo’ was £2 for 4 slices, uncooked. Bread had been shown the toaster but not toasted, and covered in margarine! Who uses margarine in 2021!!! Fresh orange juice was watered down and the plates were cold. This...

We hadn’t booked a table but we’re welcomed in. As it was a sunny morning we sat outside. We had scrambled eggs with feta on toast and poached eggs with avocado on toast. Both were delicious. The service and price was great!

I ordered Sunday Lunch (Takeaway) for my daughter's Birthday. It was so good just like a homemade meal. Full of flavour, veg's cooked just right, roast potatoes crispy and fluffy inside. Yorkshire pudding great. If you want a treat for Sunday Lunch look no further.

I cannot recommend Love to Eat enough, I treated my husband and I to an afternoon tea for his birthday and it was absolutely delicious. The selection of food was amazing and we were really looked after. We will most definitely be returning again.....just superb.

Como algo diferente para entretener nuestro encierro el sábado, nos llevaron el té de la tarde. El pedido y la entrega fueron súper fáciles, amigables y confiables y, cuando había tanta comida, nos tomó unas horas de tiempo familiar para comer. Gracias por este regalo del Día del Padre.

I ordered afternoon tea to be delivered on Saturday. The selection of sandwiches, savouries and cakes was fantastic and tailored to my individual request. I will definitely be using Love to Eat again. Jo

Myself and my mum went here for afternoon tea... It was amazing there was 4 choices of sandwich, quiche, mini prawn cocktails, a selection of cakes and scones cream and jam. Then to finish it off lovely hot pots of tea. I would defiently recommend coming here even if its for a bite to eat the staff are warm and friendly which is very welcoming.

Friend and I piped in for lunch my friend is blind and cannot work far so parking next to property is good it was full but the lady moved her sign to get car in lots on menu very friendly staff there was a group doing knitting when we went cost good value

quality bacon and sausage sarnies, come here a lot of times however i have stopped going as much because you get more bread than bacon

Fue realmente increíble, 4 opciones de sándwiches, 3 sándwiches de dedo de cada opción, 2 pequeñas quiches, un cóctel de gambas, bollo de frutas con crema y mermelada, brownie de chocolate, tarta de frutas y una rebanada de battenburg. ¡no te preocupes, puedes llevarte las sobras a casa! Toda la comida era de alto nivel, fresca y muy sabrosa. El servicio fue rápido y muy amable. Mi amigo y yo volveremos.

We finally managed to eat here, after driving past on a few occasions, because the car park was full. When we arrived we were so disappointed to find that we were too late to order the full English breakfast - it was after 2 pm. The member of staff who served us, went over and above our expectations and asked the chef to stay past his working hours to cook full breakfasts especially for us. That's pretty amazing service and it came with a smile. We had amazingly healthy cooked breakfasts, which we both really enjoyed. We hope to be returning soon and would recommend this cafe to everyone!

After recently moving near to this little cafe, we decided to visit for breakfast. Very resonable, the staff were very friendly and the food was very tasty. Will visit again.

This is little out of the way on moor road and close to Tesco’s - there’s a lake just behind the cafe and this brings some trade - there’s some parking but you may have to park in nearby Chaloner’s road and walk back

Call in here often, usually to buy a selection of wonderful cakes to takeaway but sometimes, like today we stay to eat. Service is very friendly & competent. Food is fresh, tasty & really good! Thank you! See you again soon x

Wanted somewhere local for lunch with my mum and a friend, who had both heard lots of great reports about 'Love to Eat'. The cafe is situated just after the mini roundabout on Moor Lane going away from Tadcaster Road, there is limited parking to the side of the cafe, though on street parking is possible a little further down the road. To the rear is a large pond, open to the public with a flat, paved path for a short walk and home to wildlife/waterbirds.

Just had a family gathering at Love to Eat and it was absolutely amazing.

just got back from a wonderful time at Love to Eat. We went for a family gathering and had the afternoon Tea. WOW, there were a selection of sandwiches, homemade warm quiches, fruit scones and plain scones, both with fresh cream and jam, and a selection of cakes. There was so much that we could not finish them, despite our best efforts, but Fiona packed them up for us to take home, there was a choice of teas and coffees and soft drinks.The service was excellent, we had a picky eater and she went and made some fresh sandwiches for him. Fiona could not do enough for us. The ambiance was excellent, and we weren't rushed. I would recommend everyone come here. its only a short walk from tescos, and I know which place to eat i'd prefer. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I went in for poached eggs and bacon oh my word gorgeous and lovely granary bread. The place inside is very quirky and a nice atmosphere, also the lady that owns it is very friendly. I also took home the heart victoria sponge cake and it was delicious. It was my first time that I have visited here but not the last. Well recommended.

Had tea and cakes and a good chat with friends in nice comfortable surroundings with great service. Everything is home made and delicious. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. There is ample parking to the side.

Friends had told me about the cheese scones. But when we went they had none. Might have been a 5*. So settled for a fruit scone and it was lovely. Latte equally lovely and service good. Get the cheese scones in.

Although I have visited Love to Eat many times and done at least one review and possibly two, I decided to visit and write a review as is there is now a new owner and I wanted to see what it was like. I went with a friend for afternoon tea.

A long overdue catch up over a light lunch was very pleasant. It’s been a while since my last visit and it has changed for the better by doing away with a lot of the clutter and chintz, giving a more minimalist feeling. This is not a cafe serving big hot lunches, although it does do hot breakfasts earlier in the morning. However there is a good array of sandwiches. I had smoked salmon with which I was given a choice of breads. There was a pile of accompanying leaves and a pile of crisps with the sandwich. There was a specials board but the ones shown seemed to the same sandwiches from the main menu.

Popped in for a sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was nice and the atmosphere of the place was great. Would go again although I wish it was open on Sundays!

A very dull day so let's do shopping and have coffee out This little gem is just round the corner from tesco and has a fishing pond next to the café with a small car park. We had coffee and tea a some good tea cakes and my husband had a victoria sponge. Very nice they do serve hot food before 2pm very friendly staff will call again

Lovely tasty homemade soup and cakes. As I was on a diet I had the mushroom and thyme soup without the swirl of cream !

I visited this cafe with a friend mainly because it is near to my home but also because it is easy to get into when you have a walking frame. The food is delicious and there are plenty of varieties of both tea and coffee. There are a variety of sizes of table with chairs, plus also a settee. It is a nice place to visit and is not too far from a main road so would be good for visitors to York

Headed to the Woodthorpe Family fun day with my wife and 18 month year old for a quick brunch.

Popped in after a run to reward myself with a cooked breakfast, I was not disappointed. Very tasty and plenty of it :-)

I pop in Love to Eat now and then, normally when we have family/friends staying over. Lovely food, staff are always friendly and it's has a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Met friends for coffee/snack - all beautiful. Service good, food tasty home-made. Slight problem with parking sometimes.

This is my favourite 'escape from work for lunch' place. Fantastic food, great service and reasonably priced too. The Mushrooms on Toast are sublime, but the Bacon Sandwiches are equally good so it is often a tough call . . . . Fab cakes, including the most amazing Lemon Cake . . .

Came here for morning coffee and a catch up with a friend on a very wet Saturday morning. I understand from my friend that it's sometimes best to reserve a table as it can get busy, however, I think the weather put people off as it was quite quiet on this occasion.

Live near by and have had breakfast butties here a few times. Called in for breakfast too on a weekend and food is very good. The cafe is cute with a few bits of vintage thrown in. Would definitely recommend.

Loved this small English restaurant.. Ladies took good care of us, menu is small but very home made, pea mint soon was delicious, and the Yorkshire tea unmistakably unique.. Would recommend this place any day!

I have always wanted to try this cafe and had the chance finally! I had the dish of the day - roasted stuffed pepper and courgette with salad and coleslaw and it was delicious. There is a great menu of both eat in and takeaway. There is also a fantastic coffee menu for coffee lovers and an array of homemade cakes. I had the tiffin which was delightful. The cafe was quite full so I waited a short while for my main which I expected, in that time the owner came over to apologise for the wait as they had received a large order, they again apologised and thanked me for waiting when I paid. It was totally unecessary as I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the country style room with lots of magazines to read! There were loads of stuff for kids too - toys and crayons, there were sofas to sit on or lovely little tables and chairs outside. What a lovely place to be!

Chris & Elaine catered for a family function for us today for 50 people. They did a superb job. Delicious food - 2 different soups & fresh baked rolls, sandwiches, cakes, tea & coffee. Beautifully presented & very professionally served.

We love this cafe, it is one of York's best kept secrets. Called today on the way back home after a trip to Grimsby and enjoyed just chilling over a cappuccino and a BLT sandwich. So much better than the other option of a garage sandwich. Love the smiley service, the home made cakes and the feeling that you are in a little oasis of calm in an otherwise mad world!

Been here a couple of times now - both times with my youngest son (2 yr old). Had a lovely poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce for brunch. Lovely staff and vintage style dining.

Have been in here on a few occasions now. The staff are always really friendly, the coffee is always good and the cakes are always tasty! The actual place is lovely and airy, and I am in love with the crockery!

Great for a lazy Saturday brunch all the food was of good quality, and the staff were friendly too. Not too pricey recommended.

The whole range of food is really tasty and even the cakes appear to be cooked on site. The ambiance is very good, although the heating seemed to be turned up a bit high.

After my last, unfavourable review they invited me for a free coffee and cake. The cake was a victoria sponge and it was delicious.

I have been here a couple of times eating in and take out. The food menu is fantastic and not just your boring sandwich fillings. Cakes are delicious, always a much purchase. Staff are lovely too.

We often call in here when passing by, so it seemed about time to share our experiences. The establishment is excellent for either coffee/tea and homemade cakes, or a light meal of hot or cold dishes. There is a mix of tables and soft seating, plus a couple of patio tables outside. The quality of food and drink is excellent and the staff are always friendly. As an added bonus there is free WiFi.

Love to Eat serves a rang of Fabulous home cooked food and delicious bakes. It's a very community based cafe and has lovely staff. Always a warm welcome and a tasty treat wether it's breakfast, lunch or just a snack LOVE IT!

Having driven past this place on many occasions I decided to go in I'm so glad I did place inside is very chic and pretty and the food looks amazing I treated myself to creamed mushrooms with goats cheese on toast for breakfast and safe to say it was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten I will be back!!!

I found this place after popping along with friends at a lunch break. Having been working in the area (~1mile) from the establishment for a year or so now it surprised me that I had missed this gem!

Had lunch here yesterday with friends. It is a lovely place, a little oasis tucked away from the main shops etc.,. Warm and welcoming, very attractive with it's mismatched but lovingly cared for furniture - and the food is really delicious !

Been here a few times as it's near where I work and live. Quirky little place with books and toys for the kids. Good prices and great food. The staff are great and the coffee here is very good. It's a bit small so getting in on busy days can be hard sometimes.

This cafe is not very far from where I live so was convenient for taking a friend who lives out of York and is not too far from plentiful parking and Park and Ride. The cafe itself is quirky with unmatched furniture and crockery, although these are harmonious.. It s quite small with seating for probably about 20 people and as it is quite cluttered it would be difficult for a wheelchair user, and I found it quite difficult with a walking frame.

It's so nice to have a decent cafe within walking distance of home. Love to Eat is tucked away off the main rd out of York and is great place for lunch or a coffee. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks are great at a reasonable price. It has a vintage theme and is very cozy. There's a small car park at the side. Worth a detour off the tadcaster rd for sure.

A small cafe with a big difference in that it acts as a community focus with various activities taking place. Great for a snack or light lunch rather than a full meal.

What a fabulous place Love to Eat is... It's almost hidden away from Yorks hustle and bustle and really is a destination for lunch. I love that you can park right outside in the car park which makes dropping by even easier! I love the homemade food from Yorkshire Pasty Pies (my ultimate favourite-got a take out for tea tonight) to fresh sandwiches and then the cakes!! Anybody who gets the chance to stop by must try out the brownies! Baked to perfection and portions probably too generous but I manage! The staff and surroundings really do make the place so welcoming and all the fab furniture and art is for sale so the shop changes all the time and always something new to eat and see!! Keep up the good work :)) and ill be coming to some of the classes or cake clubs you do!!
