Visited this cafe a couple of years back and the food was really good, value for money and the place was clean and well run. To say my lunchtime experience today was different is an understatement. There were lots of tables that had not been cleared it cleaned. I felt sorry for the two young girls who were trying hard to take orders and keep things ticking over. At least 3 tables walked out whilst we were waiting to order. I had a tuna mayonnaise sandwich with cucumber, the cucumber was extra. When the sandwich came it was clearly on value brown bread, a tiny bit of side salad and a teaspoon of coleslaw for £7..95 is not value for money in my eyes! The coffee was good but that was the only positive. Such a shame as this used to be a nice place.

Something seems to have changed in this once lovely and happy environment. Overbearing owner? New cook? The menu is now limited and I am often told that they have run out of the choices I make. I often hear expletives from the kitchen area too. Jessica, Chelsea and Josh were the heartbeat of this place.

Called at 3.30 today (Tuesday 3/9) for a pot of tea and something to eat but was told the cafe was closed. Checked the opening times which indicate it closes at 4pm. Rang the cafe phone hoping to check with the owner if this was correct but got one of the staff who said ‘Oh yes, we haven’t been very busy today and the owner says we can close early in that case’. I rather doubt the owner really wants that to happen as it’s a recipe for even less custom in future. A pity as the food here is generally very good. John Ewins

Been here a couple of times and food is always lovely and fresh and would definitely visit again. This review really is for the Management. Visited on a Monday morning and service as always was great. The two members of staff (service and cook) could not have worked any more efficiently. They were just extremely under resourced and both were trying to do everything. The cook in between was taking orders, clearing plates and both could not have worked any harder. They eventually made the right call in closing the kitchen for half an hour as plates were backing up and they were simply getting behind. Perhaps there was absence but these two people needed support today. I hope they recognised for doing a fantastic job today.

Ended up in Southport after a horrible hotel experience in Blackpool. Went out for breakfast on Sunday morning (30th April) and the place we originally picked from the Google reviews was shut even although it was tagged as open. Ended up just down the road in love to eat and I'm so glad we did. My son and I had the pancakes stacks with bacon and maple syrup and my wife had the love to eat breakfast. Everything was clearly freshly made and the quality of produce shone through. Everything was cooked to perfection. The coffees and pot of tea we had were delicious. Staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was very chilled. We had one more sleep in Southport and decided to go straight back the next morning for brekkie. We weren't disappointed, again everything we had was delicious. Highly recommended. We will be booking a break in Southport later in the year and I know where we'll be breakfasting.

This restaurant has changed so much since I last visited four years ago. The staff are super friendly, the food is exquisite in quite a rustic way and the atmosphere and ambience are just clean and refreshing. I ordered the eggs benedict - the wobble being just perfect. And the specials menu looked pretty inviting too. A lovely retreat from the world. Thoroughly enjoyed my 63 minute stay.

Honestly the worse experience eating out ever. I ordered ham cheese lettuce onion and cucumber sandwich on white bread my partner crumpets. Food came out and it was ham and tomato my partners crumpets was not toasted and felt like they had been sat on to warm up. After asking for the cheese onion cucumber and lettuce to go on my sandwich it came back and it was still wrong. The sandwich was so tasteless literally tasted of nothing. Went ti pay she clearly could see I was annoyed and just charged me for the food. As I walked away I hear ask the next customer if everything was ok? Clearly do not care about customer service here they just want your money.

Dropped by for lunch. I had a cheese omelette that was lovely. Very tasty and not at all dry. Mr J3 had the all day breakfast, which he enjoyed but was toast heavy. The actual breakfast itself was comparatively quite small with the strangest looking sausage he had ever seen. Tasted fine though. Service could have been more proactive but good enough.

I visited here with my friend, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff and was given food menus. The menu had a wide variety of different meals from sandwiches to larger meals including: burgers, ham and eggs and quiche and chips. I had a ham and cheese omelette with salad. The omelette was really thick and fluffy and what tasted like good quality gammon inside. My friend had a BLT with chips which looked lovely and she said was nice too! The only thing I would say was it was slightly expensive for a cafe.

Yes, the title is terrible but in our defence our brains have been melted by how incredible the food was! We each ordered the Caesar salad, which was stunning. Very fresh, chicken was nice and warm and the portion size was plentiful. As we got up to leave, the heavens opened up and sent the clearest sign from god that we were meant to stay for round 2. As we approached to ask for a coffee, we noticed the cakes. The cakes. Oh, the cakes. The portion size was HUGE! Cake and a hot drink of your choice for £5? The cake probably weight 5lbs alone! Way better value than Costa, that’s for certain! Simon made a white hot chocolate that looked like something out of a Mary Berry’s best drinks calendar and the Bakewell cake which inspired the above title was so soft, so delicious, so light, in my friend’s words “simply perfection” ❤️❤️

We always nip in here on our stays in Southport. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Service is efficient, and the soup of the day is always tasty and filling. Would recommend. Also, the last time we visited, I accidently left my satchel on the back of the seat. Having forgotten where I might have left it, I though it was lost. Until the next day, when we dropped in. I saw my bag behind the counter, and soon got it back. it's little things like this that really make it special.

Looking through the window we noticed around 4 tables free but on entering the chap from behind the counter shouted across everyone WE ARE NOT TAKING ANYMORE ORDERS could he just not have approached us and explained why ? Everyone in the cafe looked at us like we had been banned from eating there. Nevertheless we will never visit again . We popped in for a light lunch midweek. The cups and cutlery were dirty and we had to ask for replacements. The cafe generally looked grubby and run down. I went to the cafe yesterday and took my friend as a treat, I had raves about the Large portion sizes Lovely big fresh salads etc. Shame as it just wasn’t the same. Small salad, although still fresh was missing more than half a teaspoon of coleslaw and they no longer put grapes and orange in it. Cod goujons over cooked and tiny, rolls looked defrosted and were very chewy. Ran out of cold drinks. Toilet had no loo roll and hand soap very low.So sad, I used to love this place but wouldn’t go out of my way to drive the 45 minutes there now for lunch. Only glad it was a Boris half price or I would have complained. Please bring back the food we love, I can see others feel the same and long loyal customers are going to be lost.

Waited over 1/2 an hour for our fish & chips and ploughman lunch despite not being busy.Ploughman more like side-salad and cob. Far more worrying was when fish arrived, it was raw and sloppy. Uncooked, defrosted fish is extremely dangerous. This should not have happened and to say they have a new Chef is no excuse. Its basic health and safety. Came here for lunch for a first meal after lockdown, was impressed with cleanliness and choice on the menu but very disappointed with our overall food. They were out of a lot of key ingredients such as beans, english muffins and tea bags (!!) all of which they could have easily popped out to get, (it wasn't exactly late in the day). I understand all businesses are adjusting following lockdown so some shortages are perhaps unexpected. But we were overall disappointed with our meals, and not much of an apology/discounts for the mistakes!

Service was of a low standard and not at all engaged. My cup came with lipstick on it and a table of poor design with grooves in its wood had not had those grooves cleaned of sugar, crumbs, etc. Farmer's salad which should have been a ploughmans of sorts was poorly presented. The cheese had flavour but really should not be grated. The salad was, to say the least, odd. My partner's lasagne was of unusual construction made, perhaps, by someone who had seen lasagne in pictures but never in real life. All this underachievement did not come cheap and we were not satisfied.

The table was cleaned with a very dirty cloth that left the table again smelling awful. The cutlery was not washed well. Food was disappointing. The Fish and chips was soggy. Soup was not served with a crusty roll but rather with a shop brought bun. The children’s meal with a ‘side of salad’ and fresh fruit was actually 2/3grapes and a lettuce leaf. Not what we expected. We then sat and waited for another 10 minutes before she came over to say she will be over in a minute to clear the table while serving the people next to us for their food order. Once the girl finally came over we were then told they were no longer serving food. No explanation as of why just told we are not serving anymore food is that ok? This is a cafe that sells food? To be left 20 minutes before having to walk back out to find somewhere else to eat. This isn't the first time I've had to walk out due to just been left at the table with no one serving or even a menu to look at. I will definitely not be returning to this place again! We'd previously eaten lunch here and really enjoyed our choices. This time we arrived at 2pm and found a lot of uncleared, off-putting tables and few staff about. We decided to opt for an afternoon tea with 'finger sandwiches, scone + jam & cream, slice of cake' at £7.50. Regrettably the 'finger' sandwiches were large triangular-cut sandwiches on thick white bread with crusts on. We left some of these as they were tasteless and hard going, We enjoyed the warm tasty scone & jam but the cream was the squirty out-of-a-can kind (whaaat??!!) which was runny, messy and of course didn't taste like cream. My incredibly thinly sliced Welsh fruit loaf was pleasant tasting, however my daughter left her cake untouched as she'd lost her appetite. Overall it was a disappointing meal in its current form.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I was immediately aware of how bright and cheerful the café seemed. They offer table service, and as we were short of time, coffee and cake were all we had time for, although there was an extensive menu, all very tempting and reasonably priced. The cake options amounted to a choice of 4 or 5 different flavours, all home made and all looking equally delicious. This was a real lucky find for us in a strange town, and one I would not hesitate to return to.

Taking grandchildren out for the day and went for a brunch style meal, very low key. Spotted the café and thought it looked welcoming. Spotted the board outside which had a breakfast special offering bacon or sausage sandwich with tea or coffee for four pounds. Went into the café and asked if we were still in time for breakfast (this was 11.50). We were told yes. We ordered three sausage sandwiches, one bacon sandwich and one meal of ham sandwiches. Then we ordered slices of cake for us all. One cake was a special and so had a free cup of tea included in the price of £2.95.When I went to the till to pay the bill was £52.35. When I queried it she said, ‘You have to specify you want the offers before you order.’ (Even though I had asked if we were still in time for the breakfast.) She then gave me a refund of £1.95 for the missing tea. So our order should have amounted to £37.80 at maximum. We were not given cutlery for the ham sandwiches with salad nor were we given napkins with our sandwiches. The sausages were hard and burnt. My first cup of tea was poured from a teapot and some food came out of the spout. This was replaced. The cake was ultra sweet which spoiled the taste. This could be a lovely café if there was a bit more attention to detail.

The place looked okay from the outside. Against my better judgement we went in only to find the majority of the empty tables piled high with dirty plates.Tge waitress suggested that we find a table and that she would clear it for us. My wife cleared most of the debris but the waitress came back to take our order.I asked for a tea and their classic burger. The tea was good but the burger took an age to arrive. When it finally did arrive it was accompanied by fat chips that were greasy and a salad that for some inexplicable reason included a twist of orange The burger itself was grey, bland and unseasoned. Although our waitress seemed to be working hard she had little or no support. One guy made the drinks then faffed about and another girl came out of the kitchen with the odd cake and then disappeared.Promised much but delivered little. No going again.

A friend and I went for lunch, ordered meals and drinks, drinks arrived yet 30 minutes later no food. Waited patiently for food to arrive eventually and asked for two cups of tea. Drinks never arrived complained to waitress who said she would speak to the waiter who took our order. Still no drinks so went to pay querying how many drinks were on bill and told 2 I then complained about a further 2 drinks not arriving and how bad I found that for service then surprise surprise bill needs to be cancelled and reissued because there are 4 drinks on it. No apology whatsoever so asked for manager to be told “I am the Manager” ... well if that’s the case Manager needs serious customer service training and to improve her interpersonal skills which hopefully she can pass on to her staff. Left the cafe with no apology from any of the 3 people I spoke to.

call in here once every couple of weeks whilst in town. Food always hot and nice. Coffee however quiet expensive £3 for a flat - it was £2.60 and for some reason keeps going up. Food fresh so usually have to wait between 15 to 30 minutes depending on how busy

Visited 27th Dec and place looked half empty... at lunchtime? Normally packed? Lots of tables had dirty plates/cups on. We found a clean table and ordered. However a couple started to complain that they had been asked to sit down and someone would take their order and had been there 20 minutes. They left. No one tried to appease them and they just went. Our coffee arrived with hot milk which wasn’t asked for... we then requested cold. Waiting for a while whilst a few other people were served then the cold milk was bought over and slammed on the table by the young waitress. Made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Sandwiches were bought out the kitchen by kitchen staff. Not at all up to usual standard. Bread was slightly stale and fillings were sparse. I’ve seen more filing in a boots mealdeal. Then the kitchen staff came out with our bowl of chips which I watched him pressing his hand into the bowl and hand all over the chips. I told him I couldn’t eat those as he had his hands all over them and he took them back and returned 30 seconds later with a different bowl but most likely same chips? We left most of the food. Has this place changed hands or chef? It’s just not the same. We had paid when we ordered ..... over £20 for 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks and a bowl of chips so we just got up and left. Didn’t feel any better when later on the other member of our party mentioned seeing the kitchen staff going the loo twice whilst we were there..... and then had his hands all over the food. I actually feel sick and won’t be going back.

We called for coffee and cake sunday afternoon. From what i saw there were only 2 members of staff working this day.Nearly every table was full of dirty pots and i even witnessed one agitated customer ask for a cloth so he could clean his table.Like ourselves customers were waiting far to long for their orders and some walked out.I felt so sorry for the poor young girl at the front counter, trying to juggle her workload as best she could. There was another staff member who evidently was doing the cooking. We waited nearly 30 mins just for our drink and when it finally arrived i had to ask for the cake straight away as i was so worried that another long wait would result in us leaving to get back to the car in case our time expired on the parking ticket.!!!!Shame on the person who made the decision to open the cafe on this particular sunday, they clearly made a errornous mistake.Sadly we will not return.

We went here almost every Saturday for a year or more. quiche was always fantastic and great value. Something changed! We noticed the slices of quiche getting smaller. I changed my meal preference but struggled to find anything else well made or worth the money. It's sad as it had been so good. Maybe they got greedy like a lot of chains! We carried on going in for a little while but have decided to stop now as the quality is not the same. If you want a great mocha and cake, this is still the place to go.

Visited today and had a fabulous (hearty) lunch, which consisted of a ham and cheese sandwich and a cup of mushroom soup. The ham was obviously home cooked and thick sliced and the meal was served with salad and home mad.e coleslaw. Friendly staff and a well lit dining room

I visited with my mum for a weekday shopping lunch but won't be returning as the service was so poor. The cafe was fairly busy with most tables occupied but no food or drinks seemed to be getting brought out. There was a delay in ordering with no apology for our wait, then we still hadn't received our drinks a further 20 minutes later. Staff were having difficulty operating the till and engrossed in the technology so nobody was actually making any drinks. We requested our drinks but were rudely told we would get them as and when they'd got time so we decided to leave without dining. They clearly didn't care less. We will never return here.

Having had the misfortune of staying at stalag 17 aka pontins it was a relief that my family & i did at least find this place to eat. Sandwiches were excellent, especially the ham & cheese, served with a very nice side salad. I do enjoy a side salad with coleslaw & a slice of fresh orange on it, a tip that others could learn from, great coffee too & even something for our 5 year old to enjoy. Staff were pleasant & service was good. If i had one gripe it was the price of their flat white coffee in comparison to the others in the range, had it been that little bit cheaper i would have gladly drank more if it.

Went in for lunch on Saturday, four of us, only because our first choice, nearby, was chocka! First impressions , later validated, that the tables are very small and not much room to manoeuvre in between. It proved extremely difficult for four people to eat comfortably, given the huge size of the plates. The plastic flowers and cruet set went on the floor, to free up valuable inches! Quite an extensive menu, lots to choose from. I opted for a Ploughman’s Salad at £7.95. Son and niece had toastie, wife a sandwich. I can only speak of my lunch:- there was a lot of that horrible jaggedly- edged salad greenery, a couple of slices of plum tomato, a single slice of cucumber, no egg, a pot of inferior brand pickle, a pot with some shredded cheese and a couple of slices of ( processed) boiled ham. I expected, for the price, genuine carved meat, wedges of cheese. I had to ask for the celery slices advertised as on as they were omitted. Quite frankly, although edible, I think it was not value for money. I know a place nearby, where for a couple of pounds more, you cannot eat it all and it is quality stuff. The others all left their jaggedly lettuce and weren’t too happy with the rest of their meals. We had two soft drinks and two pots of tea. The bill nearly gave my wife a heart-attack- £35! I wanted to immediately question it, but it was her treat and she doesn’t like to make a fuss! She paid, we left, we will never return. Either there was a mistake on the bill, which is lamentable, or the place is overpriced.

Dropped in for a quick snack at lunch time 2weeks ago. Very clean and lovely helpful staff. Explained that I had Coeliac Disease and did they have anything gluten free to offer. Yes they did. The lady who served us said they could accommodate with most things and they even had homemade gluten free cakes which looked amazing. I opted for poached eggs on toast. One slight problem when it arrived was the toast needed to be toasted a little more and the eggs needed to be drained a little more as it made the toast a bit soggy. Passed this little comment to the lady who served us and she was really apologetic and would pass these comments to the chef. Having said all that I would still go back to this lovely little place and try something different and maybe a slice of the delicious looking homemade cakes.
