First time going here food turn up 15 mins late stone cold soggy waste of money

Ordered for delivery which was fine Curry was ok but was half way through the chicken sweetcorn soup and got a sliver of metal in mouth from soup Looks like a bit of metal from when you open a tin. Called the lotus garden to complain and to let them know about it to try to avoid it happening to others but they didn't seem bothered Offered 10% off another order Shocking Definitely won't be using these again

This has to be the worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever been to. Quality of food is shocking, roast duck tates like it’s two days old and in chunks rather than skices, no proper plum sauce. Sweet and sour is vile and even the most basic Chinese can get that right, prawn balls are tasteless and not balls more like dippers, these are clearly purchased and not made on site but awful either way. Even the chow mien which should be a staple was mediocre at best. Honestly if you think this is a good Chinese takeaway you need to get out more.

Used to use this place all the time but tonight was the last night!! Poor service boy on phone missed the rice off my curry order then they said would have to pay almost £7 for the rice even tho rice is included which it states on the menu. Quality of food also very poor watery and tasteless, pork balls hard and dry with soggy batter. Not worth the the £52 I paid!!! Only giving 1 star as had to, to be able to post review other wise would be no stars

First time ordering from here after getting food poisoning from a different Chinese and oh my what an experience!! Place an order over the phone and they were polite and helpful. Food arrived under the hour time frame and the delivery driver was very polite and chatty. i was amazed that they delivered to our area! They even followed a certain request ❤️❤️ this is before we even got to the food! That just put the icing on the cake. We had larger quantities than I expected and it was all delicious I felt like Gordon Ramsey was in my kitchen. Thank you lotus garden we will be using you again!!

Ive been in newbury for 5 years and after trying lots of different chinese, we always end up back to lotus garden. They are generally really fast and prices are good. Food is good. Never had any issues

Delivery was quick but you could tell the chicken was frozen and not defrosted properly as it was gloopy and just tasted like water which mixed with the curry then also making it taste completely bland. Absolutely disgusting.

Not my usual Chinese restaurant/takeaway but was suitably impressed, food very good, waiting time excellent, would have given 5*but the card reader was extremely slow and took 3 attempts for me to make payment 👍

Not very nice! For the past few times we order has just gone downhill.

Ordered some curry and chicken chowmein for take away as usual. We regularly order from this take away, but was disgusted this time as the currys was hurriedly prepared. They got the vegetables and chicken and dumped curry sauce on top, it was not even mixed properly. You could see the chicken on its own. Very disappointed, the chowmein was okay but the curry was a waste of money. Made me feel like not visiting the take away.

Very poor. Soft tasteless prawns. Egg fried rice a brown gelatinous lump. Spare ribs OK but barbecue sauce has an odd chemical taste and jelly like texture. Service quick and efficient. Wont' be going back.

We ordered and made a collection. Perfect!! unfortunately the Chips were missing with the order when I arrived home so I made the call to the takeaway Chinese and they were delivered to the house very quickly with an apology so no issues at all. My kids really enjoyed it too so good job all round and will be back, thank you!

Food has just turned up this has got to be the worst looking, smelling and tasting Chinese I’ve ever tried beef in the curry looks grey, the crispy chilli beef grey coloured soggy slimy and tastes as bad as it looks, satay chicken on skewers looks and tastes terrible, spare ribs in bbq sauce with no sauce, plain chow mein & beef fried rice cold whole order swimming in some horrible brown water looking substance that has leaked from something but not sure what, chicken in curry slimy first and last time ordering from here

Definitely the best Chinese in Newbury! I won't order from anywhere else! Prices are great, food is incredible and delivery is super quick. The staff are so kind, I always get a Chinese calendar at New Year!

I always order from here based on previous experience however the food I received tonight was substandard.

Delivery was within the stated hour but oh my the food is of very poor standard. Will never order from here again. Over cooked, dry, lacking flavour, too much salt. Prawn crackers was the only really edible thing. Threw away over half the food.

Me and my girlfriend ordered from here 3 days ago we're both extremely ill with food poisoning , the only decent thing was the prawn crackers. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE

Crispy chilli beef was chewy, not crispy at all. Dont know what happen... I am not sure I am going to order again...

Been getting take-aways here for years and have always had great food. However, for the first time ever, I was unable to eat the shrimp curry I bought. Maybe they've changed the supplier (maybe they make it themselves, who knows?) but it was unedible. Everything else was still good so won't hold this against them, but they owe me on that one, it was minging!

2nd worst sweet and sour chicken balls I have ever had. Cat had more than me.

Friendly staff is what makes me return to this takeaway. The food is good but its the good customer service that makes me come back. They know their menu and are patient with customers.

Very poor quality food. They said 45minutes for delivery but arrived after 15minutes from time of order. Explained it all when we ate our food. Raw chips. Half of the prawns in the sweet & sour weren’t even covered in sauce so I presume they have a pot of prawns they plonk into the sauce at the end. No flavour in any of our dishes and certainly not the cheapest takeaway in Newbury. Would not recommend or return to this place. AVOID.

Our personal favourite Chinese takeaway in Newbury. Seen some bad reviews but we’ve never had a bad take away from here. Others in Newbury have been very poor.

Sub standard oversalted, black been tasted like syrup soy sauce poured on beef with a few capsicums for luck. Disappointing.

The worst Chinese I’ve had- tasteless chicken curry and disgusting sweet and sour sauce. Vile.

I ordered nooddles with prawns and the prawns were rotten. So I vomited all night and all day. I was really dissapointed because I love chinese food but I did not enjoy this one at all!! I really cant recommend you. Never more!

We’ve been using the lotus garden for 10 years. Since new management a few years back the foods been very up and down. The worst part is the terrible customer service. The man on the phone refuses to admit mistakes and also seemingly charges whatever he likes rather than the printed prices on the up to date menu!

I don’t usually write reviews but after this experience I just had too. This is by far the worst Chinese that I have ever eaten. Our usual Chinese was shut today so we tried this one instead.

Always call them for a Chinese takeaway. Although the portions have lots of vegetables and not a lot o meat.. please review this and I'll certainly change it to 5 stars :)

We are a retirement lodge with average age of 80+ last night we ordered a takeaway for 17 people, the cost was £120 .

So we've had food from here a few times now, but shan't bother again for a while. The food is usually ok, not great but for a quick, relatively cheap (ish) take away, acceptable. What I will say here is although I have a problem with the delivery service, I don't have any grievence with the delivery drivers. They have always been polite and courteous.

I had ordered crispy chilli shredded beef and a thai style beef with cashews. What arrived was goopy and flavourless. Really wished I hadn't wasted my money. I phoned back and told the lady that the food was bad, and she said they made food to cater for the Newbury palate and that I should try another dish next time. No way! Really expected the Thai dish to have flavour as thai flavours are usually distinct... oh well

Takeaway order was wrong, told take ages to make replacement.Rest of food tasteless,tepid and in case of prawn toasts inedible.

Pedí desde aquí ayer (31 de agosto) y la comida era inferior a la media. Llegó apenas tibia y tomó más de una hora a entregar. El conductor dijo que tenía un montón de entregas en su coche, así que suena como él estaba conduciendo por dejarnos la comida de todos conseguir. La mayoría yéndose, pedí en un viaje de negocios y así requiere un recibo de IVA. Repetí este 5 veces a la operadora y ella dijo que personalmente, asegúrese de que está incluido. Por supuesto que no venga. El conductor dijo que lo trae de vuelta... Pero él no se. Por lo tanto su incompetencia me costó 30 libras que no estoy particularmente feliz.

We always use Lotus Garden, the food is very nice & is delivered hot to your door in great time. One thing they don't do is duck spring rolls. Can highly recommend the chicken & chilli in peppercorn salt!!

Chicken chow mein was swimming in sauce,crispy chili beef was so crispy it was burnt and the sea weed had so much salt in it I don't think there is any salt left in the sea ,my advice stay away.

After being disappointed by other Chinese in Newbury decided to try here. It is by far the best Chinese. Quick delivery, food tasty & piping hot. Will defo go back for more! Very very good.

After a long tiring day we chose our dishes from their on-line menu then went into the take-away. I was served courteously and quickly. I did not have to wait long, the food was hot, delicious and well cooked and was thoroughly enjoyed.

Everytime we've had something to eat from the Lotus Garden it has been superb, really tasty and hot. The best chinese in Newbury.

Having used the Lotus garden regularly for all our Chinese deliveries we were shocked & horrified by tonight's experience!After waiting 1 hour 50 mins for our order ( weekend before Chinese New Year so we were overly tolerant) when it finally arrived wrong (rice side in place of noodles main) we called them.The tirade of abuse we received was disgusting. Whilst I remained calm & polite throughout the conversation I was repeatedly shouted at by the lady taking my call. I repeatedly asked her to stop shouting & pointed out that I was being very calm & non aggressive, especially considering I was the customer who was being treated poorly .The end result was 'we'll discount your next order but your not my priority tonight'.Mine, well I will never be ordering from them again plus this review.

ordered our meal in the shop, We asked for no broccoli as the last one we had from here was full of it,( Did`nt know they ate Broccoli in China), Anyway, Got it home and my god they substituted the Broccoli for Carrots,Loads of them,Big chunks that was raw.The whole meal was just so uninviting and we had a fair bit to feed 4 .It all looked the same drab colour.Even the satay chicken was,,,,Well I don`t think I can put that on here, Its only peanut spread with a bit of chilli in it.I tried to eat it but gave up.The only thing that was any good was the prawn crackers.

I have had food from these lovely people here several times and it is my go to choice for takeaway. Every order arrives piping hot and smells and tastes delicious. Have been a customer with them for years and years now. And every time the food is great quality. And living out in the country side(small fee) they still deliver to me and my family and deliver right through til 1pm! My favourite dish has got to be the crispy shredded chicken in chilli sauce. And they do the best satay sauce, which they always sub for sweet and sour sauce for me when I order the chicken balls. As iv never been keen on sweet and sour. It's good portion sizes and I wouldn't go anywhere else now. I always have leftovers and they are great for having the next day. I don't often like to try new dishes, but the huge selection of food on the menu has led to me trying all sorts, one I really enjoyed trying was beef in Cantonese sauce and another is chicken with mushroom, there is also lots of other food types on the menu, which I am yet to try, but I will, as I am sure that it won't disappoint. Would recommend.

Reasonably priced and great tasting food. We ordered special fried rice, chips, curry and chicken curry. Vegetables spring rolls weren't great - too greasy and no flavour so avoid these. Chicken in the chicken curry didn't have the right texture but the meat in the special fried rice was great and chips were nice. Reasonable price and got free prawn crackers.

We telephoned our order through for a treat for our wedding anniversary, and were told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Went to pick it up, and it was all ready. Very pleasant staff to deal with.Got it back home, and found the portions to be quite large. We therefore only ate half of it that night, and saved the rest for the next day, which we reheated in the microwave!Food was excellent, and would definitely go there again.

I am put off straight away from just looking at the shops front. Paint Peeling, Scruffy and uninviting. There is an old saying .."What you see on the outside is often on the inside" I have had their food delivery in the past to my door...but since seeing the premises I have gone else where. I am concerned...

2nd time we've tried this Chinese takeaway (1st ordered November 2012) and second time food has been over cooked and not a nice taste.We ordered..Chips - too drySweet and Sour pork balls - Sauce too vinegary and the balls too doughy and I didn't like the taste, odd meat taste?!Smoked chicken - was practically burntSpring rolls - so so.Not ordering again from here.

Absolutely fantastic yet again! Been ordering for the last 8/9 months about once every other week, service on the phone always polite and knowledgable, delivery time, tbh, can be anything from 30 to 60! Even at the busy weekend - we live in a rural village about 15 minutes from town centre, no problem, found us each, and every time. Overall good fab, hot and fresh - highly recommended :-)

Quality of ingredients were disappointing, all dishes ordered had an off taste. -The Crispy Seaweed only tasted of salt and sugar in a non-palatable way. -The meat dishes tasted like they had been left out for days but just hot in temperature. -Prawns were good size, but I couldn't eat more than 1 (one) in fear of falling ill. -Vegetables were overly squidgy, with a slightly sour taste in a bad way. -Fried Rice was stale. Quantity was satisfactory with each dish filling a normal sized plastic container - but I couldn't get through a third of each dish before calling it quits. Prices were average - can't remember what the total was, but I don't remember being shocked by the bill either. Customer service was good, communication was clear. Given the amount of food that I had to throw away (and I almost never waste any food), I can only give it a Terrible 1 Star. -It's a shame, because I had their food in early 2014 and it was okay, it's like they are a completely different Takeaway with different management and/or chef. With the vast number of other Oriental Takeaways within 5 minutes' walking distance, I'll probably never go back. Visited January 2015

Delivery was quick. Only thing I can say that was good. Food was disgusting. Chilli beef was so bad couldn't eat it. Chicken we ate but no taste and in gloppy sauce. Satay dry. Seaweed so salty unable to eat. Just grim. Plus they forgot to send the drink we ordered.

Curry sauce was bland Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls - had more flour/batter than chicken Crispy Lamb - Delicious - need more pancakes and veggie bits Special fried rice was bland Char sui pork and bean sprouts - tasty Was disappointed the curry sauce was bland, it's the one thing I always have to measure how good a Chinese dinner is!

Nice people. Service OK. shame the cooking is really bad. Husband had a duck dish. I had a chicken dish . I can honestly say that we have had better Chinese from the ready cooked aisle in Asda. Only visiting Newbury so won't be going there again

Used these a few time but never again. Ordered a delivery but when it turned up there was no chicken curry.waited a hour for this delivery. Phoned up and could not get a replacement out to for another hour. Which was no good because everything else would have been cold and this was our main meal. The points it was not about the missing curry or the money it is how much they argue witb us. Really bad customer service.

Strangers to Newbury we didn't know if the Lotus Garden would be good or bad so took the reviews from Google. How lovely to find such a welcoming, helpful takeaway and the food was superb - we even had a couple of freebies. The food was freshly cooked and piping hot. If ever we are in Newbury again I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Highly recommended.

This is by far the best takeaway I have had the opportunity to buy from. It is usually very busy on Friday and Saturdays, however this must not be seen as an disadvantage as this only means the food is fresher and must be a sign that the food they serve is top notch. The lady at the front of shop is very helpful and kind, any allergies or preferences should be mentioned beforehand and they will kindly alter any of their dishes. Top class service. Highly recommended.
