Wednesday afternoon late lunch, cannot praise food & staff enough We don't eat out often locally but if we do it's always here My husband had a Maple Burger & I had the Hunter's Chicken Burger (for the 1st time) Will certain have that again! But my favourite will always be the Steak Pie The beer selection had changed but we enjoyed the new ones See you soon I hope

We visit here quite regular and are never disappointed. Lovely home made chips and a wide range menu. The hunters chicken sizzler is our favourite and we also sometimes go on steak night which is fantastic value for money. Will be back soon

It was just inexcusably bad. You wouldn't mind so much if it was really cheap, but apart from the perfect waiting staff (cannot be faulted and are a credit to anywhere they work - quick, helpful, polite, cheerful) there was NOTHING to add as a good point. The food is as low as it gets (what I ordered was anyway). The halloumi is £7 for a handful of half inch square chunks with a handful of worn out salad with a bowl of sweet chilli sauce. If there's 50p worth of produce on the plate, I'd eat my hat. They can't even get nachos right. It's a cereal bowl (as opposed to a wider bowl/plate) full of warm crisps with some melted cheese, sour cream, etc on top. That would all be fine if it wasn't for the fact that once you've eaten the very top layer, all you're left with is a bowl of bog standard warm tortilla chips that the toppings couldn't reach. No layers, not a correct vessel.... just none of the absolute basics. £6! Again, not a chance there was 50p worth of produce in that bowl. Even the pint of coke that cost over 3 quid (must've been cause I got a pint of beer and a pint of coke and it was a tenner) was a pint of flat, warm syrup with no ice in. A literal shambles. Pub food doesn't have to be like this. The British Oak on Denby Dale Road serves this kind of cheap and cheerful stuff. BUT, it actually tastes good and they put a gram of care into it. I left £30 down and feeling like I'd been mugged. 100% avoid.

Love the food here but was so disappointed on Friday I feel as though it will take a lot for me to come back. I have previously had most things on the menu and loved them especially your chips but something has changed. Chips were those big , fat ones , and very soggy. Your previous chips were to die for. I had the haddock which was grey in colour, absolutely no flavour and in a soggy batter. It was awful. Please don’t change supplier !

Just got back from this lovely pub. Talk about value for money!! 5 of us had main meals, drinks and a mega sharing pudding for just over £100. The food was delicious and generous portions. Homemade chips were to die for!! The staff were lovely. Thankyou Lord Nelson… we will be back. 😊😊😊

A lovely pub serving great food. Clean, friendly staff and a varied menu. The food was absolutely delicious, hunters chicken and pie both served with home made chips. The hunters came on a sizzler and was hot, just how it should be. Triple chocolate cheesecake was to die for, came with ice cream on a plate that was decorated really classy. Will definitely be going again.

2nd visit in a few months but will definitely visit a lot more. Had burgers, pies and kebabs. All were delicious. Excellent service by a young man and lady. Very polite. And actually look like they enjoy their work and pleasing customers. We like that everything is just simple, good host, good service, good food. Oh nearly forgot the sweets are excellent too. Booked a table for two for Sunday dinner, my husband had ribeye, I had scampi and our meal was a perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The service was great the drinks were reasonably priced as was our food. Highly recommend, we will return for more!

Very disappointed this time. Avid long time customer and not one to complain however, it just didn't meet the usual high standards. A group of 3 adults and we had - Sharing Nachos requested with no jalapenos but arrived with them. Not a major issue. I had the beef halloumi burger from the specials board. Was very dry, no salad was served with it either. Wife had the waffle burger. Again very dry and no salad served. 3rd person had hunters chicken sizzler, chicken was rubbery and the whole dish was way oilier than normal. When paying we raised these concerns to the young lady who just said "oh okay" Left £60+ lighter and very disappointed that the usual high standards were not met. Both the young lady and lad were working very hard and were polite throughout but seemed to lack experience and/or direction.

We hadn’t been in this pub for a number of years although we did used to be regulars many years ago. We just thought we’d try it and were not disappointed. Reasonably priced menu with lots of choices and served very quickly. Very friendly and efficient bar staff. I’m sure we’ll return before too long.

We have visited several times recently for various meals and this restaurant never disappoints!!! The food is always cooked to perfection whatever we chose. Sunday lunch is always delicious especially with the huge, home cooked Yorkshires!! Steak night is such a treat!! The chefs cook the steak beautifully along with tasty homemade, what I call "real" chips and fresh crispy onion rings!!! We always experience a high standard of service from the lovely team of staff. Will be back very soon!!!

Had a lovely meal at the Lord Nelson. The meat and potato pie was lovely with nice homemade chips. My husband had a Ribeye steak which he said was delicious. We will be back very soon. The service was very efficient and friendly.

We stopped off here after football on a Sunday has a family treat and really wasn’t great. We walked in to doing five rounds of the restaurant before the young girl eventually found us a table. We ordered two burgers and the Sunday lunch. The starters weren’t great we had prawn cocktail and breaded mushrooms. The mushrooms were deep fried and used old fat and the prawn cocktail had that much sauce it made you feel sick wasn’t impressed. Then Sunday dinner the meat wasn’t as if it had been carved off a joint of meat it’s looked awful the dinner was cold and after complaining the young girl just looked at me and said we can re heat it if you want. We asked for two coffees and told the young girl we was outside . It took quite a while for the coffee to arrive and then she threw the coffee on table and all spilt and then walked away as if it was normal. The coffee was horrendous really bad . When my husband went to pay the bill the young lady said have you had a strong bow and moretti was on receipt my husband said no she said doesn’t matter what you had drinks are all same price. Really disappointing and was sad really spoilt our Sunday definitely won’t be back and the bill was 100 pounds so might as well flushed it down toilet .

Haven’t been to the Lord Nelson for a while so thought we’d give it a try as we live quite local. Served by a very pleasant young man, ordered kebabs and steak pie. All delicious and just right size portions. The chips were cooked perfect Reasonable priced drinks and excellent service. Will definitely go back again

Not great. Menu is fairly standard pub food and feels like a million other menus out there. Nothing on it grabbed my attention at all. Shared sizzling chicken fajitas and halloumi kebabs with a friend. Nowhere near enough soured cream with fajitas . Felt very bog standard and unimaginative. Side salad consisted of iceberg lettuce and tomato wedges. We were almost told to leave when there was only my (large) group left in the pub. Will not be going there again.

We live in Manchester and pass by this pub on our way to/from Scarborough, been doing this for 7/8 years and never called in, until today. All we can say about the greeting, friendliness, food, service is WOW...WOW...WOW!!!!!! I had the sizzling Hunters Chicken and the wife had the Top side Beef dinner......excellent. Before we left I made sure I obtained info needed to be able to book a table in a couple of weeks when we will be heading back to Scarborough again. We've driven past a few times, driving over to visit family, and had seen the busy car park so we knew it must be good. We booked a table for lunch today and we were very impressed. There was plenty of choice on the menu and everything we ordered was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back as we all spoilt for choice with the meal choices

We've been coming to the lord Nelson for years and always have a good meal. Big portions, good service and never uncomfortably busy (a bonus during the current covid times). Great variety of dishes to suit meat eaters and vegetarians.

Having been diverted by major problems on the M1 and therefore using the A629 we saw the roadside advert for this pub.Pleased to have found it because we were able to enjoy a quality meal and certainly hope to call again when we are in the area.

This is one of our favourite restaurants all the food we have tried is of excellent quality the staff cannot do enough for you they even remember what I have to drink very good value for money well worth a visit

First visit to the Lord Nelson. It is easily accessible from the A628, with a decent sized car park. The staff are very efficient in both service and politeness. The meal we had was a Sunday Lunch.The starters a Prawn Cocktail came on a plate and looked & tasted a bit lacklustre. However the soup was very nice and was hot (some restaurants the soup is tepid, but not here)The main, there was plenty of meat on the plate, which came with gravy already on the plate (a bit too much) I would have preferred a gravy boat to put it on myself. The veg was excellent the potatoes were a tad over seasoned ( but that is down to personal taste). The sweets a knickerbocker glory and cheese cake were both excellent could have eaten 2 portions of cheese cake really lovely.The cost of the meal wasn’t expensive for the amount of food you got (which was plenty) it was good value.Overall would recommend. Certainly will go again and try different things on the menu.

Visited here today on way back from daughters Graduation at Huddersfield University. Saw the sign advertising delicious food so decided to visit... well the sign isn’t wrong. Two daughters had steak and said it was really good, fish and chips were great ant my husbands chicken curry looked amazing. We had starters which were also very good so unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert.

Well ... my second review of the Lord Nelson ... We were in the area once again and visited the Lord Nelson three times in the same week. Happy to report that everything was as before very good including the meals ... but what is still so impressive is the efficiency and attitude of the staff ... We were looked after by Laura who made us feel very welcome .... thank you Laura !We have no doubt in recommending the Nelson and will be back again at some time ...

Our first visit, a very clean and well presented pub,cheerful staff, and nice sized meals with homemade style chips, fair prices for the size of meal and well presented on the plate, good selection of bar drinks

Visited here again after visiting family in the area, I have been visiting for over 23 years and it's never let us down. Lovely warm welcome on our arrival, the decor is lovely and homely proper country pub. Service is fantastic the staff are always friendly, manager always seems to have a smile on his face. The 2 young girls were very attentive but I feel as though they looked a little bored at sometimes but it wasn't so busy so not much for them to do. The food is always top notch the hunters chicken sizzla is so tasty I really hope they never take it of the menu I can't find another place that does anything like it. Only thing I could suggest is maybe cut the home cut chips a little thinner as some where hard still. I love my visits here as I remember going as a young girl. We will definitely be back in the very near future. Thanks again for a wonderful visit.

The South Yorkshire luncheon Four back again. We had the fish pie from the specials board, which was fine. The pub was unusually quiet, on fact our car was the only one in the car park.

Decided to come here tonight after we turned up else Where for a pre booked afternoon tea for them to tell us we wasn't down so we was stuck on where to go so decided to try here last minute. So glad we did was lovely. Nice and quiet. Burger was really nice and our bill was very good price it actually worked out cheaper than our original place we was meant to eat. So what started off as a disastrous night turned out to be a delightful one thankyou for making our night special. Will definetly recommend and would visit again.

Booked a tàble for 6pm and was seated straight away. Service was very quick to say how busy it was. The food was nice and presented well although I was a bit disappointed that I was charged £2 for 2 tiny sachets of tartar sauce that anywhere else you'd be charged 10p each (rip off).

Just been to lord Nelson pub had a lovely steak for steak night meal was really good steak was cooked to perfection the tripple cooked chips were to dye for the staff were very friendly and all had a lovely smile thankyou to you all lncluding the chef for making our visit worthwhile ...

Four of us went for the 3 course lunch @ £11.95 which was excellent value. The service was quick and the food was very well presented, hot and really tasty. There was a good choice of dishes and we were impressed and will go again soon.

Visited here on Sunday tea time wasn't too busy, staff extremely friendly. Hunters chicken sizzler always very nice. Cooked to perfection, food arrived in good time. Can't wait for our next visit.

Visited with friends for our monthly meet up. They have put the special menus back on at lunchtime for 1, 2 or 3 courses. We had the 2 course option with two having starters and two having sweets. The starters of nachos and garlic mushrooms were excellent and as previous visits. For the mains three of us had pie, chips and mushy peas the other had Cajun chicken meal. It was very noticeable that the pie portions were much smaller than previous visits. The sweets we had were syrup sponge and cheese cake both also being excellent. The service was very good the only negative being the smaller main course but will certainly visit again.

Visited several times now for evening meal during the week. Always leave satisfied. Nice roomy/ comfortable seating. Good table service. Varied choice of food from the menu and specials board. Would recommend the steak pie or gammon for those who like traditional pub grub served with delicious hand made chips.

Went to the lord nelson Saturday evening for my mums birthday, we arrived at 8pm had starters, mains and wine, the food was fine, at 9.30pm the waitress brought us our bill which we hadn’t asked for, 10 minutes later all the staff were standing waiting with their coats on.... and it was cold and could do with a total refurb, won’t be going again, sorry

Visited again with family, again fantastic from start to finish. Staff are really welcoming and friendly. Food is very nice hunters chicken sizzler never fails. All food piping hot. Can't wait for our next visit. Well worth it.

We had a lovely meal at the Lord Nelson all 14 of us. Good choice good service. I had the beef strogonoff however I was probably a little let down as there was only three small strips of beef in the dish it was mainly mushrooms however it was tasty.

I came here for Sunday lunch with my folks and the food was lovely but a tad on the pricey side if you weren't having the Sunday roast.

Every now and again we have a family get together, we always use the lord nelson as they are very welcoming and look after us. The food we had was great as usual and everyone enjoyed it. They also presented my wife with a cake for her birthday. Highly reccomended to anyone

I had Italian chicken my wife had gammon both were over cooked and very hard.When waitress collected plates that had most of food left on them never asked if we had enjoyed meal.when I went to pay waitress then asked if we had enjoyed meals I explained they were both over cooked and hard.Here words were I’ll mention it to chef.Not interested and no apologies.The place also is in need of a refurbishment tables and chairs are dirty and toilets are likewise.Please avoid there are better places to spend your hard earned money.

not been to the lord nelson for sometime but we really enjoyed our dinner of gammon and homemade chips with all the trimmings my partner had the suet steak pie which came with homemade chips garden peas and a large bowl of delicious gravy of the specials board the staff was really friendly and the waitress very helpful nothing to much trouble not like some restaurants we have been in timothy taylor's beer was fine as was the ams tell lager will be returning again for another enjoyable meal

Revisit of the South Yorkshire Luncheon Four. The food was fine, hot and well cooked. The only downside was a family of six with two kids who created all thro the meal, even the grand parents looked embarrassed..

I've been here to eat several times and generally have a good experience. However this last time the food was very poor. We ordered the tomato soup as a starter. The was really watery and tasted very unpleasant. I politely informed the staff and this was largely ignored. My complaint wasn't even acknowledged, which is a shame as I have previously enjoyed visiting the Lord Nelson.

Came across this pub by chance yesterday so my husband and i decided to nip in and have bite to eat and a drink. The pub was not overly busy but had a really good atmosphere, the staff were friendly and polite very welcoming and very helpful.

Visited for evening meal after visiting family we always go here as it's been one of my fav pubs for almost all my life. It wasn't very busy, nice and quiet. Staff are brill very friendly and happy to help, one seems a little shy but not everyone can be happy all the time. Food is so nice really tasty and you get a really good portion. There isn't a long waiting time for food to arrive. Very happy with our visit this time will look forward to visiting again.

I wasn’t impressed with my second visit. The staff were friendly enough but sadly the beer wasn’t exactly worth the price. It was like a pint I’d expect in London, not Yorkshire. It was completely headless and flat. I’m definitely not impressed. Hopefully my third visit might be better.

We use the lord nelson once a week for our dinner. We always receive a warm welcome and the food is delicious with a wide variety of dishes available. The gammon, pie and hunters chicken are yummy with the homemade chips. We also tried the cheesecake of the day which was Oreo cookies which was amazing. I would reccomend the lord nelson to anyone its very good.

Be aware that the portions on the 2 and 3 course lunches are very small. My husband ordered the steak pie and received a 2 x 4 inch portion!!- when we queried this we were told it was because a normal portion is £9.95!! I told them this should be made clear on the menu- it wouldn’t have filled my 9 year old grandson!!

We've visited the Lord Nelson several times and have experienced first hand ( on two occasions) what it's like to be turned away from this pub at a perfectly reasonable hour

I was really impressed. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Great food which was served piping hot and I highly recommend the homemade steak pie and triple cook chip, then waffles for desert.

Food was excellent and good value for money. We had Sunday lunch and the beef was cooked to perfection . The staff were lovely too. We did order bottle of wine which wasn't very nice and was £15 a bottle thought quite expensive . But the bar man did let us try another wine before purchasing so very helpful .

Visited today for lunch. It was 2pm on Sunday, to be told they had stopped serving the Sunday lunch. The food we ordered was nice. It was hot. Dessert was out of a packet. The service was excellent..no problem with the staff at all.
