We were camping locally (Stockbridge) and other campers suggested a visit here. It’s great they said! So we did with high hopes. Entrance in was inviting, offering at the cafe was inviting. That’s when it went downhill. Coffee was insipid, scones were doughy, the other visitors were so rude, high & mighty attitude. The shop had some stuff but nothing exciting. Really wish we had spent our money on local cafes in Stockbridge . We also visited the Water Garden £10 each. Spent all of 20 mins there. Nice not exciting

Extremely inefficient and slow method of service. We had to queue for 20 minutes, with the queue stretching into the outdoor section, just to place an order and get our drinks. We ordered 2 scrambled eggs on toast and then had to sit down and wait for the kitchen to deliver it. Which they did not do. After 50 minutes of waiting we had to complain and request a refund. My husband had to leave me sitting there after 30 minutes so he could go and buy the garden equipment we’d originally come for, because we were running out of time. And I had to buy some brownies in the farm shop because I was feeling faint and shaky from hunger! We were planning to browse and spend money in the nursery but couldn’t as we had wasted an hour and 20 minutes for food which never came. The queue was still snaking out of the building when we left. With elderly people and children waiting on a hot day. Absolutely the worst service we’d ever experienced from a cafe. Waitrose - inexcusable and way below an acceptable level of service.

Dreadful set up. We had to wait 1.5 hours for breakfast on a sunday, between the queue and getting food, so clearly the system isn't working. Waitrose - wake up and smell the coffee! Change it. Seat people first and let them order via a QR, using your current staff to serve. No idea how the kitchen is run, but so bored now. It's nearly lunchtime and still no food

Horrendously busy. Had to wait in the queue for 2 coffees for over 15 minutes. No apology about the wait from the girl who served me. When I came back to ask for a teaspoon she said "they're all in the washer". Again no apology. I think J.L need to re-think their cafe and train their staff in better customer care. Would definitely not recommend.

We had visited the Longstock Water Gardens - also part of John Lewis (separate review) and called in to their garden centre, shop and cafe, but only for cold drinks. We were with friends who live in the Salisbury area. The garden centre was well stocked and reasonable prices, one of our friends bought a plant. The farm shop was just that (see photos) with an appropriate but very limited range. Oddly they are selling Cook frozen products in a big way - strange - how about promoting the JL range?? We only had cold drinks but the cafe sold the usual selection of cakes etc, sandwiches and light meals. The Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating is a 5, the highest category - excellent. Toilets clean. It is disappointing to see many unfavourable reviews and not one response from the management - that's bad and not up to JL standards. Clearly there are some problems here. So, an OK location but I suspect that there are many pubs in the area that do better. Not wortth a special visit.

Went out for breakfast on my wife's birthday! We have visited a number of time gofer as it is a very nice setting for a coffee in the sun. The outside area is close to the garden centre and although a sparse area between the garden centre and the restaurant (a missed opportunity for their wares) the outside patio is a nice area. We picked a table inside, which was the first time I had been inside. It was clean with easy access to a large number of tables to the left and the farm shop to the right. The breakfast menu was up on a board behind the counter, clear for everyone to see prior to ordering. No menus in the tables which could be a little inconvenient. The choice was wide from full English to various hot filled rolls to healthy options. The prices were OK, for a John Lewis owned business it would be described as expensive compared to a cafe but not compared to a restaurant. £7.95 was the most expensive item being a full English, with bacon or sausage rolls at £3.95. The service was good, following ordering and payment at the counter. All four breakfasts were served after a short wait. The breakfast all came out on hot plates with all items appearing to freshly cooked. The ingredients were all top quality, no cheap sausage etc. Nice setting.Clean. Wheelchair friendly.Good quality. We do not like criticizing good food but when we order an egg salad roll we expect to be served with a moderately dainty roll, one that can be picked up like a sandwich perhaps, filled with egg (possibly chopped with some mayonnaise) and some salad alongside. What was served was ridiculous - on a warm tea plate there was a sizeable brown roll split open and stuffed with salad leaves, thick cut cucumber and tomato and a few slices of egg so that the roll was forced open at right angles. Alongside this the plate was piled high with coleslaw which was full of raw onion, chopped peppers, the flavour of which overpowered everything, and still more leaves, onions and tomato. We had to ask for a larger plate to eat from to prevent the food spilling over on to the table and it was only then that we discovered the meagre amount of salad dressing that should have been on the leaves. I thought at the time that £10.90 was a bit steep for two egg rolls but now I can see why while I enjoy the repeated experience of peppers and raw onion. Come on Waitrose, you can and should do better than this!!!

Very very nice. Then had a walk around the garden centre which I suppose should be the main attraction. Some of the plants and ornaments are more expensive than in your usual establishment but all top quality. There is also a shop filled with lots of other goodies. Would recommend. You could probably spend a happy few hours browsing and enjoying the refreshments but I am sure very much busier at the weekend.

This is lovely place to visit, fantastic nursery (great to get away from the big chains), good gardens (went to see Buddlea collection - most impressive), and timed it so the Water Gardens were open too (purchased the makings of a picnic from the shop). Which brings me on to my moan. This is a lovely venue - and the staff are lovely too. The shop is full of delightful products, and there are some really tasty treats to have with coffee - suberb ginger bread and lemon polenta cake - such a change from the usual flapjacks, muffins and millionaire shortbread. HOWEVER - the service is SO SLOW! There needs to be some process put in place to speed it up. We waited 20 mins for coffee and of that about 3 mins was waiting to pay for the rapidly chilling coffee. The same can be said about lunchtime (only worse - hence the picnic purchase). I'd love to come back but not to stand in a queue for that long. Such a pity.

Longstock Park Nursery is near Stockbridge, Hampshire. The business is part of the Leckford Estate, which is owned by Waitrose. We had anticipated a well run cafe with decent food, and we were not disappointed. The cafe and farm shop are under one roof, which is an attractive modern half timbered building. Outside are additional tables, looking out over the nursery and gardens. It is a very pleasant environment and the weather was glorious. I ate a large egg mayonnaise roll, and my wife had a scone and butter. We each had a hot drink, and shared a large slice of chocolate cake. The bill was just over £13 for two. Not especially cheap, but the food, the friendly service, and the general environment is about as good as it gets. Portions were quite generous. There was a choice of hot and cold food, and the place was properly staffed. This was a really pleasant experience and we would return any day for lunch.
