Longport Cafe in Canterbury

The food was great, best cooked breakfast I've likely tried out of home. Table service, was fast, efficient and friendly, food arrived in no time and the coffee was great! Really decent, clean food and the girls were lovely.

Looking for that long lost all day Cafe that does honest lunches as well, we found the Longport Cafe. I, being very hungry, had the Hunger Buster and I have to say it was the best Full English I have has since 2001 at the Newhaven Trawlers Cafe. The other half went for the classic Liver, Bacon & Onions and she was very impressed. On top of this the service was also excellent and the atmosphere nice as well.

Had a stressful morning en route here but when I finally arrived it was brilliant. Exactly what the doctor ordered. Coffee went down well and the fry up always delivers, super bacon and a shoutout to the egg. B E A utiful

Staying in the local area overnight so seemed like a good idea. So glad we did. Fantastic freshly cooked breakfast and good value for money. Waitress noticed I was having a coughing fit during our meal and was over in a flash with a glass of water for me. Above and beyond. Thank you!

My husband, son and myself have had breakfast at this café a couple of times. Each time we have all enjoyed everything that we have had. And the service is exceptional. We are looking forward to going back again soon.

Service was diabolical, it's the first time I have been to any restaurant or cafe where I felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. The food was good and the value is excellent but I had to ask three times before my order was taken. Breakfast arrived very quickly but I never received the orange juice and coffee that I ordered. If staff have time to talk to each other, then they have time to serve customers.

Needed a full English and found this cafe on google. What a find! Excellent service with friendly staff. Variety of breakfasts available . Would definitely recommend.

Nice takeaway breakfast. My car was being serviced in Canterbury so needed to stay in the city centre. Found this cafe by accident and ordered a take away breakfast that I have been craving. Really enjoyed sitting on a local bench. Food hot, fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. Recommended.

Went today usually go every few weeks at least they now have hand sanitiser but not much else in place I asked was the toast with butter and totally assured of this otherwise I would not have ordered this came pre covered in spread again I asked to told yes butter NO it wasn’t very disappointed in this my husbands bread and “butter” also a cheap spread I would have given 5 review but really not listening to what people ask may seem petty to some but can make a difference

Had breakfast here this morning. Excellent service, Quality food and value for money. In these Covid times there needs to be a hand sanitizer area on entry. Otherwise can’t fault it.

We visited this morning, a little busy but room, with social distancing. However on entry I noted there was not a hand sanitizering area, which I've come to expect visiting shops/cafe. Staff was efficient and the service prompt. The food was good and cooked well. I did notice when staff were clearing the tables, they only wiped the tables not the condiments, menus or chairs. I'd think twice before visiting again.

Went in to longport cafe today for the fist time since the new management and was pleasantly surprised, kids meals where all under £2.50 and where a very good portion size, baguettes where very reasonably priced and a good portion size again also ordered the mixed mini meze which was a large enough portion to be a meal in itself, all the food was served at the same time and was piping hot, the customer service was friendly, the only reason I have removed a star is that this establishment does not have an allergy list available and they where unable to tell me if the sausages contain milk which is one of the top 14 allergens, I feel they should have an allergen list available as stated by the food standards agency to follow the rules set out in EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation, on this visit longport cafe where unable to comply

Amazing for brunch after a night out . The menu had so many options at such cheap prices and tasted great. Would highly recommend .

Great little cafe if you are in the area. Good value for money and tasty food, you can even have a beer if you fancy one.

Called in after vising the nearby Augustine Abbey for a sandwich. The portions were large and came quickly and were excellent,the staff were friendly and the menu was extensive and reasonably priced.

Visited with my husband and son in our sons recommendation Dodd arrived quickly but my order was wrong a deep fried chicken burger instead of a grilled chicken burger soon changed and was delicious

This isn’t just a cafe!! The Breakfasts are good with decent portions. The Omelettes are very big with a lovely salad and very nice chips,,, at £5ish it’s a treat. The Chilli Con Carne and rice!! Banging!!

Great place to eat and have a little work conference fairly busy always a table ordered food came in good time 6 different breakfast menus that are changeable staff always friendly.

Elegí este café porque lo había usado una vez antes en una visita anterior para el desayuno y quedé impresionado con la calidad de la comida. En esta visita lo usé dos veces para el almuerzo durante un fin de semana largo y en ambas ocasiones la comida fue excelente. Tuve una baguette en una visita que estaba llena a rebosar y en la segunda visita pastel de carne con papas fritas, ambas comidas eran de excelente calidad y valor, el personal era muy agradable en ambas ocasiones a pesar de estar muy ocupado. Si vuelvo a estar en Canterbury, definitivamente esta será la primera opción para una comida.

Fresh food, served promptly, and very friendly service. Friendly decor, good location, near Waitrose to the South, and the medieval St Augustine's Monastery, the beautiful Fyndon gate, St Paul's Church nearby, Christchurch University, and for convenience, a Post Office, and a Waitrose just behind.

Been before recommended to friends so took them for lunch usual set 3 and a latte staff really friendly food was good and hot very good.

La cocina está en el medio del Café para que pueda ver todo lo que está pasando y lo limpia que está la cocina. El lugar es muy limpio y ordenado, el personal es muy servicial y los precios son muy buenos. . . Tuvimos un surtido de desayunos entre nosotros y todo estaba muy bueno, no grasoso, recién hecho, porciones generosas y todo a buen precio. . .

Nothing special but popular with locals. Lots of variety in different types of fry up and all kinds of combinations. Good coffee. Also did lots of lunchy snacks and full blown meals. Great selection, nice staff, fast service.

On a early visit to Canterbury 9.00, we were looking for a place to have breakfast. A workman, working on Weatherspoons suggested we try Longport Cafe, and what a great place to eat it is. Good value, choice of menu, breakfast and dinner, what more could you want, The staff were friendly, and the meal was freshly cooked and very tasty, Have already recommended to my daughter who visits Canterbury quite often.

Very disgusted to walk in and find the woman (although I would beg to differ) arguing with a customer regarding her breakfast. From what I got from it the girl was changing her breakfast order and the staff became quite abrupt towards her to the point she cancelled her order and left! Also making the girl wait for a takeaway cup!! Then Being insulted by the staff member! UNBELIEVABLE! Can only put it down to RACISM as I changed my order and she didn’t seem to have a problem doing so. Food at this point left a bad taste in my mouth.... foods not great to be fair... not to say customers are always right but are you not meant to want custom from all parts of the world??? Poor girl

Arrived minutes after they opened on a Sunday morning early March. Little else happening in Canterbury that time of the week but this cafe was open, clean and the staff nice and polite. Ordered full breakfasts for two adults and a five year old. Freshly cooked, nicely presented and very tasty. What a superb and welcome surprise that time on a Sunday morning. And all for c.£13. Would go out of my way to go back. Many thanks guys.

Used this café for breakfast when staying at the fairly close by Premier Inn. I always try to support local independents rather than chain restaurants and this was very good. Breakfast was freshly cooked and good quality. Would use again when in the area. Lunch menu looked to be good too with plenty of homemade choices.

Whilst staying at a local hotel we came across this venue. Initially, stopping for Breafast on our arrival date, we used the venue for further days for lunches and Breakfasts.

This is a great place to eat. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast here.The food was excellent, a good choice and very reasonably priced. The place is clean with nice décor and the staff are very friendly. Well done Longport!

After having some average experiences with some other establishments within the walls of central Canterbury we were pleasantly surprised with the food quality and service of Langport Cafe by venturing not many steps beyond the walls, passed at lunchtime when en route to St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church. If you are looking for quaint then stay in Canterbury centre and expect to pay more.

After seeing the good reviews me and my wife had breakfast here and wow fantastic food and service and really cheap as well the cafe was really nice and clean nice friendly service set us up for the day I would highly recommend if your really hungry or just fancy a light bite.

A good cafe, I'm fussy to how food is cooked and was very happy with how my breakfast came. I would like a good quality sausage but other wise a good enough breakfast! You shouldn't be to disappointed with your visit..

Went there for breakfast late on a Sunday morning. Very few people in the restaurant which doesn't explain the mediocre service that was received. The food was plentiful but it was the standard breakfast fare. Egg white was runny and the bubble was lukewarm. Probably won't be returning.

The staff in this cafe is really good, they have a friendly attitude are very pleasant to talk too.The food in this place is to die for, I have been here a few times and everything I have had was really tasted with loads to choose from.The place is very clean and can not fault anything.

Took my son for cricket practice at Polo Farm and went into town looking for a place for a sit down breakfast. Came across this cafe which was quite unassuming but whilst leaving I was already planning my return! Ordered Set1 but as I'm not a fan of baked beans I was offered mushrooms, which was absolutely tasty, so was the bacon & sausage. Highly recommend this place and the service is excellent too..they do serve lunch & dinner and as it's open kitchen the Chefs are visible and very friendly too.

Going with my family since we find about Longport and always been good... well runned and friendly cafe... breakfast and chicken kebab will be my recommendations

Have been going to Longport since it opened all those years ago and it's no surprise to see its still going strong fantastic breakfasts and meals alike very tasty and reasonably priced good coffee from actual coffee beans none of this instant rubbish this place is a winner from me

I was at Canterbury to visit my mate for the weekend. We was looking for a cafe for a proper breakfast. Tried this cafe located on a quite road with good parking facilities for my car. Good full English breakfast with good portions. Had the hunger buster set which really busted my hunger. My mate had a jacket potato which was also served with salad and good looking. Amazing cafe with good service. Besides the waitress the chef was also really welcoming. Really busy cafe but we didn't wait too long. Think this will be my mates regular spot.

Long overdue review as the visit was now a couple of months ago. I visited here with a couple of friends as we really fancied a big breakfast, after searching for somwhere to eat that was cheap, we eventually stumbled across this absolute gem! I ordered a veggie breakfast and have to say that the portions were fantastic, lovely full plate of the breakfast favourites served extremely quickly. The service was brilliant and there was no problem with swapping things on the menu to suit our needs. Pricing was extremely fair, which for a group of students, was extremely favourable. The café itself was basic but very clean and comfortable. Can't wait to visit again!

This centrally located cafe is large and occupies a site in a terrace. Inside the walls are adorned with a variety of pictures and the walls are of a yellow hue. The front elevation is a bit untidy and could do with some T.L.C.. On arrival the cafe was packed and finding a seat (there were at least 18 tables) was difficult. There are laminated menus on each table and the staff are friendly and my all-day breakfast was quickly served ... and with a delicious coffee. As for the meal, the food covered the plate and was plentiful, but the sausage was poor quality and had exploded at each end and the bubble and squeak was a bit under-cooked. That aside, the mushrooms were excellent, the chips abundant and the tomatoes fresh. The price was competitive too.

We hoped The Longport wouldn't make it onto Tripadvisor, because it'd give away our secret! A few years ago, we did a breakfast-based tour around Canterbury and surrounding areas.This is how a breakfast of supposed to be cooked - nice runny-yolked eggs, salty, thick bacon and swaps for anything you don't fancy on the set breakfasts. Staff are friendly, food is quick and fabulous. You don't come out smelling of fry-up, but you do come out full and happy :) Generous and good value.

This is a proper cafe. Clean, lots of food, nice service. Nothing is too much trouble so you feel welcome and valued. We need more of these.

We found this Café and entered for a family breakfast. The staff were pleasant, the service quick and we could choose from a wide range of choices and combinations. Basic but giving you all you could want.

20 of us working weekend decided on Longport have used before many times food is always good hot and arrives fairly quickly recommend liver and onions best in Kent.

There is plenty of choice of what to order, the staff are very friendly and the service both inside and to take away is very fast and food arrives piping hot. We've been plenty of times and the prices are very reasonable for what you get and the portions are quite large also. Really lovely cafe!

I am really happy with the massive portions, good quality of food and excellent service. People are so polite. Advantage is that you do not have to wait for too long to get your food.

A friend and I use the Longport Cafe for our weekly breakfast meeting. We like the fact that the breakfast menu has a wide range and they are happy to make up the breakfast as required. They have set breakfasts as well including vegetarian options.Overall food quality is very good.The waitresses are very good and usually greet with a friendly smile. (Note to Longport Management - remind your waitresses to maintain their friendly welcomes and keep smiling - it makes such a difference first thing in the morning)Pricing is probably the best in Canterbury.

Waited 45 mintutes for breakfast then when i complained the girl shrugged her shoulders at me, the food arrived cold and they were shouting accross the cafe at eachh other , would not come here again, i had been once before but it wasent that bad.

Staff are surprisingly friendly for a cafe, the food us typical cafe food but they let you swap tomates for an extra sossage for example with no fuss. So you can customise. Came here hungover and the hunger buster sorted me out.

I come here two or three times a month. Really clean and good quality. Fairly standard menu with good specials. Pleasant service style and ambience.It is the only place where I just ask for a coffee and they bring something really nice. A fresh ground robust mug of coffee with a bit of hot milk in. You can have two or three for the price of a megacorp's chain coffee.Builders and Bin Men and lawyers all frequent this cafe. A pretty good recommendation!Only down side is stepped access which is down to the location and no adaptation is reasonably feasible.

I've eaten at The Longport several times but this review is based on a visit last weekend during a stag do. I needed to find somewhere to have breakfast for 8 hungry and hungover lads (I say lads we are all 40 or there abouts now) and the Longport was my first choice. £5.20 for a big plate of fry up and a cup of tea, bargain! There were 8 very happy and very full chaps that morning. I recommend the Longport for good, honest cafe food!

Been to other cafes in town but simply Longport the best. Cheap, friendly, nice atmosphere and most importantly tasty. What else can you want.

I live locally and visited nearly every cafe in town. And i can say that longport is best cafe in Canterbury . Clean and tidy always fresh food witch tastes great. Reasonable prices for breakfast and lunch. Welcoming staff and owners !!!

No the food's not going to win a Michelin star. This is solidly a cafe, with fairly typical cafe food. If you want fancy dining, head somewhere else. However if you want excellent value, well cooked simple food with friendly service it's a great place. Being just off the main tourist routes it's not packed with too many tables, and doesn't feel the need to overcharge. Fairly spacious but popular enough it can be fairly busy at lunchtimes. A good choice of cooked breakfasts and typical cafe lunches served in generous portions.

I live down the road from the Longport Cafe, and it has to be said that it's one of the best hangover cures ever, the portions are extremely generous and the staff are all very friendly. I recommend the Hunger Buster, it's the biggest full english breakfast I've ever eaten!

Cafés come and go very quickly in Canterbury, mainly due to extortionate rent and snobby residents... so it's a good sign when one sticks around for a few years.Food is good and very well priced. Typical cafe atmosphere but the cooking area being visible is a nice touch. Always good to see who's cooking your food after eating in various grotty places when hungover! Don't expect a quiet breakfast. Mainly filled with hungover students and locals, but it remains a quality place to have a quick bite to eat that's cheap and hearty. From fry-ups to generously sized omelettes to filled baguettes to full on dinners.... highly recommended for a no-frills lunch.

I've been coming here for more than 3 years and nothing went wrong not even once... Good management, very friendly staff and atmosphere...the best food for the best price in the whole Kent...please continue what you're doing because you're doing it right.
