Poor quality food. Chips were overcooked and not very tasty. I tasted haddock which was ok. Fish cake was completely tasteless no fish in it just potato covered in batter. I’m at loss how restaurants can serve such poor quality food and think they can get away with it.

I paid £10 for a small fish and chips, a very expensive cost for a very average fish and chips. There are three other places in the area where I get fish and chips and I would pick them over Long Johns. No salt and vinegar available also which was a let down and the staff were very disengaging. Not a bad taste, just no where near as good as others. Premier ticket price for League 1 standard product.

We only had a bag of chips - a quick snack for lunch - and my friend doesn't like to eat in the street so we grabbed a seat. We were immediately asked to leave as "there would be a lot of builders coming in soon". The place was empty. How long would it take to eat a bag of chips? 10/10 for lack of hospitality. I will forever associate Wareham with this experience. Perhaps we met the grumpy manager mentioned by other reviewers. Not an experience to be repeated. So we ate our chips standing outside. And I apologised to my friend. Fortunately it wasn't raining.

Average fish and chips and a long wait because the woman managing the 4 staff wouldn’t allow meals to be prepared concurrently (they just had to stand waiting for her to bark orders). Me and my girlfriend were passing through this evening and happened across this little gem. The staff here were really warm and welcoming, a real family vibe. We went for pea fritters, large battered cod, chicken & mushroom pie, curry sauce, chips and some buttered rolls. First of all the cod was huge and perfectly lightly battered and not greasy at all. The fish was lovely and soft. Honestly 1 of the nicest pieces of fish I've had. Chips were perfect, just right with the crispness :). Literally couldn't find any fault with all of the food and all reasonably priced. Phil and Jade are the best!

Used this chippy a couple of times every month for years just as a treat now and then. Never really encountered any problems here. The staff are friendly and fast service. This time was there at opening time of 5pm, no other customers and ordered for myself and family members. Upon getting home and unwrapping the various food, my small cod was in fact the smallest I have had from there. It was about 5 inches long and cost £4. So just literally over a pound an inch for the cod! Upon eating eat, I have to say I could not taste any fish...it was the blandest fish I think I ever tasted. The batter was very light in colour and the cod flesh felt very slimey. Looking back the food was ordered, cooked, and handed over to me within 2 minutes and to finish the review off, an hour or so after eating I suffered horrendous stomache cramps for hours and felt incredibly sick. I can't prove it was the fish but bearing in mind I had nothing else to eat I would say it had something to do with it. This has certainly put me off and will not be buying any more food from there which is a shame after all these years.

Spent the late Saturday afternoon in Wareham taking in the river and lovely sunny weather, decided to finish the day off with a fish and chip take away from Long John chip shop.Managed to find a car space nearby and joined the queue which started outside the shop and wound its way in and around inside. First impressions -understaffed, one taking money/orders, one cooking and the third bagging and calling the order numbers.I would say there were approx 10 customers in front, orders appear to be freshly cooked -maybe this was due to catching up on high demand as there were some cooked items in the cabinet behind the till/serving area. From queuing to leaving with our order took 50 minutes, the temptation to just give up and walk out was more than tempting but the queue itself suggested the wait would be worth it, it wasn’t. The batter on the cod and sausages were better than good, but the cod did have bits of skin. Chips were very small and bitty. The organisation could be improved as salt and vinegar was not offered at bagging/order completion but both were available at the far right of the till, -so once the long queue had been finished customers with their orders had to gain access back through the queue again to gain use of the condiments. In the shops favour, staff were polite and there were some chairs available to wait after purchase while the meal was prepared and completed.Several people left after seeing the length of the queue, -I don’t blame them, I wish we had. Maybe it was just very busy, we had been directed to these premises from a chippy on the high street which was closed because of electrical issues.Given the option again we’d let our stomachs rumble and cook when home.

While in Wareham me and my wife purchased fish and chips from Long Johns having read reviews. It is unusual that you cannot see the fish that has been cooked - it is ordered and cooked and wrapped without you seeing the finished product. Once we got home and opened the meal the fish and chips portion was small. It left us both hungry. The fish was tasty though! If I had seen the fish portion size before ordering I would have definately walked out and gone elsewhere.

Long John's is not a Fish and Chip Cafe but did kindly allow us to eat our finger food at a couple of table which are really there as a waiting area. We did this as many take-away customers came and went. It is obviously popular with local people and well-used. We spend most weekends in Wareham and only use this chippy as a last resort. The quality of the food is OK but not in the same league as Harlees in Poole or the Parade at Swanage. The cost however is ridiculous, a large portion of chips is £2.70 but gives you less chips than most local chippies regular portions. Be prepared to pay London prices if you want fish with that!

Visited here on a sunday evening for take out around 7pm. Two teenagers were working the counter and were both very sour faced and abrupt. It was cash only to pay. It was very busy and the staff were getting flustered -only two fryers also. They seemed to have no logical (e.g numbering system) for collection of orders which meant one person left with someone elses order whilst i was waiting. I had ordered a small portion of fish and chips, a saveloy and curry sauce. The cod was small, naturally, but mostly batter, chip portion was decent but mostly ragged ends and small chips, saveloy was very small and cold and the curry sauce was awful. I waited 40 mins for my order also. I won't return in a hurry which is a shame.

Perfectly good fish and chip shop opposite the cinema.good hot food, freshly prepared, reasonably priced. Exactly what you would expect.I don't know why Trip Advisor lists this as a resturant, it isn't one. It's a normal chippy.

Visited this chip shop after a day out, was pleasantly surprised at the quality as haven't always been impressed with Long johns in other areas. Chips were cooked to perfection and the cod was lightly battered and not greasy. The staff were very polite and friendly. Will definately visit again.

Stopped on the way home from a day out, lovely clean shop. The fish was well cooked with crisp light batter and the chips were the best I've had in a long time (not a soggy chip in sight!) Will definitely be back soon!

Excellent service. Lizzie is lively and certainly makes you feel comfortable and at home. The food is exquisite, a personal favourite of mine, is the smoked beef board. Burnt ends, beef rib, brisket. All melt in the mouth and flowing with juice. The smoke leaves a delectable bark without overpowering the flavour profile of the meat itself. If you are feeling brave or want to stitch up your friends, challenge them to the chicken wings with dynamite sauce. It will blow your/thier head OFF. Extremely spicy but packed with juicy habaneros and scotch bonnets, this delicious home made sauce is not for the faint hearted, but provides hours of entertainment as you try to tackle the inferno.

Came here for food based on good reviews, on a very wet early September evening. I was a bit worried as although several tables were taken, it was quieter than some of the other pubs when I first arrived around 6pm (lots happening in and around Swanage that day so most other pubs were very busy). However, I think it might've been just that because the pub is off the main street, visitors would head to one of the more visible pubs first, so I'm glad I did a bit of research! It soon started to fill up though and I was lucky I had arrived when I did! I ordered the burger, which the lady behind the bar said was a good choice. She wasn't wrong, it was great! Everything appeared to be home made (except the bun and salad of course!) and was delicious. I had a couple of pints of Inches cider (one of my fav's) to wash it down too. It's likely not the cheapest place in town (the burger was £17.95 and the drinks were £5.40 each). I thought the price of the food was fine given the quality, but the drinks were a little expensive. The pub is dog friendly and while I love dogs, the only downside of the visit (not the pubs fault), on a wet day, meant several wet dogs kept brushing past me. Overall, I'd definitely recommend!

Had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived to find the floor was still being vacuumed and only one table was laid and we were the only customers. Gave drinks order then, when brought , gave food order. It arrived between 5-10 minutes later. We were convinced the food had been heated in a microwave, my husband’s beef was tasteless and veg was undercooked and gravy was watery and flavourless. My chicken was a chicken portion not even sliced. When we left about 40 minutes later there were three more tables occupied.

I tried to order tea and scones at Knoll House restaurant today but there was no one who seemed to want to serve us. We asked at reception after waiting for ages at the bar for someone and was told to ring the bell. We eventually found the bell which was a door bell and not easy to see and after waiting again for an age, no one came. We rung the bell for a second time and stood waiting discussing what we should do when a very harassed waitress arrived carrying a full tray. When I asked if we could order she was unapologetic and unpleasant and told us she was unsure if we could have scones because they had been busy with a table of 22. I asked her to check to see and while standing there still waiting I felt the whole experience was now so awful that I didn’t want to stay and spend my money here. This was supposed to be a special treat for a friend and I that don’t see each other often and instead it felt like we were a massive inconvenience and completely unwelcome. I know staffing is difficult and expensive these days but treating people that have come in wanting to spend there money with you like that is appalling. We decided to leave and as we left we told the member of staff on reception that we were leaving because the waitress was rude and we couldn’t get served and even then no apology was given, no attempt to retain us as customers and seemly no concern that two paying customers were leaving and taking there money elsewhere. We had a lovely visit in a very fine cafe in Swanage and will not return to Knoll House and judging by the truly awful service we had today, no doubt this feedback will be ignored.
