My wife & I, son & daughter-in-law, and their two children (10 & 8 yrs) visited Lona for the first time as a family. Lovely food, excellent service, and generous portions. The only issue was having a table full of dishes with one main platter loaded with food. Highly recommended.

Superb experience all round. The meat is prepared to the highest of quality, and there is a wide variety of dishes to try. Often, so many dishes can be a warning of quantity over quality, but Lona's somehow manages to achieve both. I'd also recommend trying one of their fresh fruit juices from the juice bar!

This is one of the best places to go with family and friends. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Service was good overall, but the only downside is the waiting time — if you're ordering a platter for 3 to 4 people (or more), expect to wait around 45 to 50 minutes. A single platter might be ready in 30 minutes, but still, keep in mind the general wait is about 45 to 50 minutes. We ordered the mixed grill platter Round two for 3 to 4 people along with separate sides — baba ganoush and taziki (yogurt with cucumber). The mixed grill was incredibly soft and tender, featuring lamb chops, lamb sheesh, chicken sheesh, wings, chicken, lamb tikka, chicken tikka, mixed rice, fatir (minced meat bread), etc and fresh naan. We orderd lemonade with our meal, and for dessert, we enjoyed a special ice cream. I’d recommend going for scoops of vanilla, pistachio, or chocolate — personally not a fan of strawberry or berry flavors. One thing I’d like to point out is about the drinks. I requested fizzy drinks like lemonade — not Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, or 7Up — and I was surprised to hear that no one had asked for that before. We were apparently the first Muslim customers to request an alternative. It’s honestly a shame, considering 99% of the customers are Muslims from around the world, yet no one has asked for halal-friendly drink options. The staff said that if more customers requested alternatives, they would consider bringing in drinks like Salam Cola, etc.

First of all it is a place full of people all the time, during weekends and evenings think to make a reservation or prepare to wait on the line... The food is very tasty and is coming very quickly, starting with welcome salade in a second after you are set at the table. I do recommend the ayran and all the smoothies are delicious.

I love it here. The food is banging, the staff are great and the restaurant has good vibes. Get the lamb shanks with rice, I loved it. Only thing is I wish it came with a better salad, as the salad sauce is a little tart and I had only one tomato in it, but I’m still giving full stars because I would come here again. Might be one of my favourite places in Bristol.

This is a large (about 200 - 250 covers I would guess) and very efficient restaurant that is geared up to get people served quickly. We were seated and a salad was on the table with a minute, drinks order taken and served within 5 minutes and food order taken very soon after and delivered to the table within 10 minutes. However, this is not a negative as the staff are friendly and food is great and a good price. We had a sharing platter with various sides and everything was cooked perfectly and was super tasty. It's not somewhere to go for a romantic meal but if you want lots of yummy food then this is for you.

We were required to pay upfront, which wasn’t ideal, but I understood the reasoning behind it. However they also wanted a compulsory 10% service charge upfront, which caught me off guard. When I questioned this, the waitress seemed a bit confused and just shrugged, basically saying "It is what it is". I decided to speak with the head waitress at the bar, who actually took the time to have a genuine conversation with me. She explained that the service charge was meant to ensure top notch service and that they’d always do their best to resolve any issues. She also mentioned that prepaying is more efficient so customers don’t have to wait to settle the bill. The irony was that the service didn’t quite live up to those expectations. The first waiter greeted us with “Bossman, you ready to order food”, it was a funny moment but it came across as unprofessional. The second waitress who took our order barely said a word. We ordered the mixed kebab and platter 2 with rice, and while the food was decent, it wasn’t anything special. Any restaurant that charges a service fee upfront should be ashamed of that policy. Hopefully they’ll start listening to their customers and allow the service charge to be paid after the service. That way they might even earn more than 10%.

Went with my BF for a meal and it was so delicious. We had some nice free salad to start with, then we got aubergine starter, then mixed grill for 2 people and their home made dessert - baklava. And two heart beat juices with tropical fruits. We got table straight away, and there is a service charge 10%. Service was quick and efficient. Would definitely come again.

Nice place. It is not the best choice on a very busy day as service can be very slow on a busy day. Service can be better if people can book ahead with a deposit, especially for a group. Waited more than 40 minutes to get in and another 40 minutes plus to get our food. On the whole, the food was worth the wait. I will try again on a non-festive day.

This place is brilliant we have been so many times and the share platters are very generous and great value. The only thing I wish they had was some kind of dish with sauce to moisten the food or dip your bread in. They do supply sauce in squeeze bottles but I'd prefer something fresh. Other then that perfect.

A Bristol gem for Middle Eastern food. I am a regular here, and always get the mixed grill sharing platter and the lemon and mint juice. Great atmosphere..the birthday tune gets stuck in my head for days after though. I am of Arabic descent and I can happily recommend.

I can't help but wonder how the long waiting times will impact the experience at this restaurant as more and more people flock there. It feels disheartening that they charge customers before they’ve even had the chance to enjoy their meal. One has to question if respect for patrons is becoming a thing of the past, especially when it seems they believe that diners will keep coming regardless. I'm also curious about how the future might look for food quality—will it continue to decline? It seems like portion sizes might shrink even more, and I wonder if they will decide to make fries available only for an extra charge. It feels like this place is on a path to becoming a huge mess, and I'm anxious to see how it all unfolds.

I’ve been a loyal customer of this restaurant for years, always choosing it for special occasions like my birthday. Unfortunately, it has gone completely downhill with poor service, unreasonable policies, and a decline in food quality. First, they now require you to pay in advance, including a mandatory 10% service charge—before you’ve even been served! The menu only mentions the charge in small print, but nowhere does it say it’s mandatory. It’s disgraceful to be forced to pay for service that hasn’t even happened yet. I always leave a tip for good service, but making it compulsory upfront is unacceptable and, quite frankly, feels unethical. The staff were unable to properly explain this policy when we complained, making the experience even more frustrating. On top of that, prices have increased significantly since my last visit, while portions have shrunk noticeably. The Lona Round 3 platter, which used to be suitable for 4-5 people, is now much smaller, and they’ve started charging extra for basic sides like fries and vegetables. Overall, this place has lost everything that made it special. The food and service are nowhere near what they used to be, and the new policies make it clear that they care more about squeezing money out of customers than providing a good experience. This was my last visit, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I’ve always considered this place a reliable spot for a good meal, but after my experience last night, I’m not sure I’ll be returning anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong, the food itself and the value for money are generally quite decent (on a good day), but unfortunately, the service has really gone downhill. Word around town is that a group of about 30 people ran up a £1,000 bill and left without paying. This was actually confirmed by the manager when I voiced my concerns. As a result, they’ve now implemented a policy where they charge every customer upfront, which, in my opinion, feels really degrading (and they charge a service charge upfront, make it make sense). To make matters worse, if you decide to order anything additional during your meal, they take the payment immediately, which is especially inconvenient when you're in a large group mid-meal! When payment is made upfront, they only provide a card receipt. A breakdown of what was ordered can be obtained, but only if you specifically ask for it and usually, you’ll have to walk up to the till at the front of the restaurant. I raised these concerns with the manager, and his response was that he’s been in the hospitality industry for over 16 years and that places like Nando’s also charge upfront. The difference, however, is that Nando’s confirms your order and provides an itemised bill, without overcharging you for items you didn’t receive or even order in the first place. My advice to anyone planning to dine here is to always request an itemised receipt upfront because they’ve been known to overcharge for items especially as they ONLY provide you with a card receipt upon payment.

Visited Lona Grill House for the third time and I have to admit, their service, food quality and atmosphere has remained outstanding. I had a mixed grill number 2 which was £18.95. A combination of grilled chicken, lamb cutlets, lamb arayes (minced lamb stuff inside a baked flatbread) and shish taouk served with chips was full of flavour. I did have a side portion of chicken wings. This was washed down with a Mango Yummy. I would highly recommend at least giving this place a try. You won’t be disappointed.

I loved my meal here - however two points I don’t like - as a first timer here it was weird to me they wanted payment upfront before the food arrives, I didn’t like the fact that was food and service charge payed upfront. That’s not good, it would stop me from returning. Again, the food was excellent and worth the money paid. Second is the very loud music they’ll play when going to a birthday table, perhaps I was sat next to a speaker, but it was very very loud.

Amazing food, service and a great atmosphere here. We came at lunch as I am aware it is louder at dinner. The food was incredible and tasted high quality. The juices are fresh and tasty - we recommend the lemon and mint if you like sour. The sharing platters are a great way to try everything and you are likely to be full (less is more). Gorgeous interior and helpful staff. The unique baclava was very sweet but delicious. We were given a complimentary salad which was nice. Overall a bit pricy overall but great for special occasions

Best not to get take away here, I had to sit outside in the cold for 30 minutes but the receptionist who took my order said it would be around 20 minutes, then i had to go back inside to ask for my food, and it seemed like it had been ready for a long time. Maybe they only serve you nicely if you pay a service charge and eat in. If so add the service charge to the take away and serve it properly.

Got my order wrong (missing items) After waiting over 30 minutes for one chicken wrap and one piece of bread. I only ordered from them because apparently it’s Lebanese. However, this is a pure Kurdish glorified kebab shop - From which I will never order again! I ordered two items and they only gave me one (see attached order sheet). I tried to call to rectify/clarify this issue. The phone number apparently is diverted to her mobile number which goes to a voice message. - Now that’s famous in itself 🤣🤣 It looks like the reviews are mostly four stars and they are mostly related to service and rip-off prices over average food/luxury, kebab! I won’t try it again!

I don’t know what’s happened to this place, but it’s an absolute disgrace compared to what it used to be. It was once the go-to spot, with great food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere. Now? It’s unrecognisable. Let’s start with the portion sizes, laughably small compared to before, yet the prices have shot up to ridiculous levels. Paying more and getting less is bad enough, but then they have the audacity to force you to pay upfront before you’ve even seen your food! And if that wasn’t insulting enough, they slap on a 10% service charge before anything has even been served. How can you justify a service charge for a service that hasn’t even happened yet? And don’t even get me started on how they’ve started cutting corners. You used to get chips with the mixed platter, now they’ve taken them away. Really? How expensive are chips? It’s just pure greed at this point, squeezing every last penny out of customers while offering less and less in return. But the worst part? The sheer rudeness and unprofessionalism of the staff. As we were getting up to leave, a waiter ambushed us from across the room and practically chased us down like bailiffs over a side of chips, making us feel like criminals in front of everyone. No respect, no courtesy, just pure hostility. It was humiliating, and frankly, I’ve never experienced anything like it in a restaurant before. Ever since the fire, this place has completely lost its soul. The quality has plummeted, the prices are extortionate, and the service is downright nasty. Congratulations, you’ve successfully driven away a loyal customer, and I can assure you my friends won’t be coming back either. We’ll be taking our business to the city centre from now on, where we’ll actually be treated like human beings. Such a shame, this place used to be the best. Now? It’s a total joke.

I’ve been coming to Lona Bristol for the past eight years with my family, but after this last experience, I won’t be returning. The service has completely changed for the worse. First, they now ask for payment before you even receive your food, treating every customer as if they might run away without paying. Just because one person did that, it’s unfair to assume everyone else will do the same. It creates a terrible dining experience, making customers feel untrusted and unwelcome. Then comes the waiting time—over 40 minutes for food, which is unacceptable. And when it finally arrived, the quality was shocking. The meat was undercooked, the lamb chops were raw, and the portion sizes have drastically reduced. The chicken used to be thick and well-cooked, but now it’s sliced so thin that it barely feels like a proper meal. On top of that, they’ve stopped serving fries with Round 4, which used to be included. Now, you have to order them separately, which makes no sense. It’s just another way to cut corners and charge more while giving less. Overall, everything has changed—the food quality, the taste, the service—all for the worse. If I wasn’t with my family, I would have walked out. But that’s it for me. After eight years, I won’t be coming back. I do not recommend this place anymore. If they keep running it like this, they won’t last long.

I love Lona especially their birthday song and how all the waiters come together clapping. The food is good and waiters are very friendly. This restaurant is one of the best I've been to in terms of food quality and service. Nothing is too much for the staff and they keep the place very clean. As soon as people leave, tables are cleaned and the floor is swept. Something I don't see in busy restaurants! The only thing I will say is, when there is a queue and you have booked, you don't need to wait in the queue. I didn't know this but I asked. Love the food and atmosphere. Staff are super helpful. Large menus that suits all. Plenty of space for large family events. Book ahead to avoid waiting in a queue. Can’t fault this place.

Been going to this place for last 15 years with my family it was good until last 5 years where more middle class White Brittish people eat then beforehand. Since then I notice decline in service they increase capacity to make more money from more customers but did not increase staff capacity. Also they forced my Nan to pay service charge which is optional under law and said it dose not matter and we needed to pay because my Nan did not care she just paid but for me I would not patronise here if I was paying because I do not agree paying more to cover staff payment I am customer not a boss.

Deceptively adding a service charge to every table instead of transparently informing customers upfront. This isn’t Egypt where you can scam your customers. By law, customers can refuse the charge, and most restaurants only apply it to groups of three or more so this is an insidious move. The staff lack coordination and listening skills—nodding in acknowledgment but failing to follow through on requests. Diabolical staff training given. Go to Zizzi”s or any other well known restaurant and you will see how professionally trained they can be. The owners and chefs are Kurdish, yet they’ve given the restaurant a Lebanese tag, creating confusion about its identity. True Kurdish values—bravery, honesty, and passion—are nowhere to be found in this place. The next step is to cancel upcoming corporate bookings and inform our partner companies to take their business elsewhere.

They make you pay a service charge in advance. If you refuse to do so, they won't serve you the food which I don't think is legal. Besides, I once I talked to an ex employee, he told me the owner keeps most, if not all, of the tips.

While we were dining, my daughter accidentally injured her finger. The staff responded with such warmth and concern, quickly offering assistance to ensure she was okay. Recommended by a number of taxi drivers! We has a large sharing dish between 4 of us, which we all enjoyed. Came with 6 people this time - minimum to book a table on Saturday night. Queue went down the street! Sharing platter for 4-5 was plenty for the 6 of us and enough to be worth taking leftovers. Had several items from the juice bar (very nice) plus various cokes. They were so busy they weren't serving desserts, given how much I had already eaten that was probably a good thing. Worked out around £20 a head - really good value for great food. If you're celebrating a birthday they will make a fuss of you!

I recently visited Lona Restaurant in Bristol and, despite having called ahead to confirm the last order time, our experience was disappointing. Upon entering, the customer service felt off from the start. As soon as we were handed the menu, staff immediately approached us, asking if we were ready to order. They were overly pushy, insisting that we hurry up because the kitchen would be closing soon. When I spoke with the owner afterward, he mentioned that the last order was at 10:30 PM and that the chefs needed to go home. However, this was clearly incorrect, as three other tables arrived after us and were not rushed in the same way. To add to the frustration, we were charged an additional £5 without being informed. When I inquired about this, I was told it was a service charge. While I don't have an issue with service charges in principle, it should have been communicated upfront, and ultimately, it should be our choice whether to pay it. In this case, I didn’t feel the service warranted it, but the owner refused to remove the charge. On a positive note, the food itself was very good. However, the poor customer service leaves me reluctant to return. As a fellow business owner, I understand the importance of treating customers well—something this establishment could greatly improve upon.

The food was lovely here, at first, the staff were also relatively nice. Once we sat down however, we ordered our food. They reviewed the order then when the food was brought out, one of our orders came wrong and the staff member insisted that we said we wanted the fillet steak over the sirloin steak. We ended up having to stick with the fillet steak. The staff cooperated with us and ended up giving us a price match. We enjoyed the food and I would still recommend it overall.

Lona has always been my family's go to place but for last couple of trips we have not really enjoyed as before. Meat quality has gone down along with the taste, its tastless now. Prices have gone right up but taste and quality which Lona was known for has gone down hill.

The tasty food is dominated by mutton, which dominates almost every combination on the menu, there are delicious fruit drinks and you can arrange a birthday party, the entire waiter team brings a cake with a candle and claps to the rhythm of the music. The downside is that there is no alcohol in the premises and to have a drink or beer you have to go across the street to the pub.

An overall pleasant experience clouded with the "10% mandatory service fee" that you pay BEFORE you get your food, how can you pay for a service before you recieve it. The fact that you're paying a premium for the food should be enough. (Hummus with 1 kebab on top, just under £8.00) The manager explained the service fee is for the staff however they dont do anything out of the ordinary for me apart from take your order and bring your food! It would be appreciated if you were actually clear with your pricing and increase the food price by 10%. I'm sure there's something going on with the tax and needs to be reported to authorities. But food was nice

We went to Lona Grill House on the recommendation of my son who is a regular customer. It has an amazing atmosphere and you really feel like you are in North Africa and not in Bristol. The staff are super helpful and very attentive. The food is cooked to perfection. The portion sizes are large and offer good value for money. My wife had the lamb cutlets which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had one of the vegetarian dishes which was excellent. We will definitely be returning.

Ordered through Deliveroo. Unfortunately a couple items were missing, all the food was cold, and my housemate found a hair in her wrap. We issued a refund request on Deliveroo and called the store. The store person was nice and outlined the only options clearly regarding refunds through deliveroo - it’s a shame that the food was poor and there’s no fix for getting things badly wrong. It’s one thing missing food on the order when the order bag clearly has the list of food ordered (is no one checking before handing to the driver?), but the food not even being slightly warm and a long hair in one of the wraps is quite disgusting.

Amazing Spanish tapas with fresh food and some interesting twists on classics. Nice wine menu and staff are knowledgable on the wine. The highlight was certainly the tuna and the bread was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Visitamos temprano el sábado por la noche antes de ir a un restaurante. Como otros han mencionado, el servicio era confuso. El tipo que nos sirvió parecía que había estado oliendo pegamento todo el día. Estaba pálido, sudoroso y rojo alrededor de su boca y nariz y servía las bebidas sujetando el borde de las copas. El gerente/propietario estaba allí y haciendo una mueca en esto, pero no se comprometió con él o nosotros, que era el patrón para el resto de nuestra visita. Parecía que no le gustaba la gente ni su personal. A la semana siguiente llegué con covid con la peor infección de garganta que he tenido... gracias al barman sarnoso y a su jefe de 'no me importa'.
