The new paint does not cover the cracks. It’s gay for a day pub. One day it’s family the next day it’s lgbgt. Good garden area and very happy staff.😂

I have visited Lollards Pit on many occasions and had many enjoyable visits, but when enquiring about holding a social at their venue for a group who appreciate leather within the community, they were very unhelpful! Unfortunately, the bar manager at Lollards Pit demonstrates some very dated and concerning views surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community. Part of their reply stated, “At this time, we are unable to accommodate additional advertisements or group events, as we are family friendly and wouldn’t want to offend anyone potentially.” It is a great shame we are still experiencing such bigotry within the community, and we do question if bikers, or anyone else who may like to dress differently get turned away from Lollards Pit as they will offend? Will those dressed in hi-vis, or double denim, also be treated with the same approach?

On the other side of Bishop Bridge to the Red Lion, the Lollards Pit was one of the first pubs in Norwich to be built outside the city walls, and was built on the site of a place of execution for heretics known as Lollards Pit, hence the current name. Internally it’s largely one room around the long L shaped bar, but there is a smaller area beyond housing a pool table and then a nice outside secluded courtyard garden with plenty of covered seating areas accessed from this games room. The decor is pleasant enough with exposed brick to the bar front and exposed beams on both ceil and walls. I had chosen to duck the Red Lion to take a look at this one and fortunately it did not disappoint when approaching the bar, in fact almost the opposite. All six ale pumps were in use and alongside a token interloper from Yorkshire ( Rudgate Battleaxe Bitter) they were all from Norfolk breweries. These were Woodforde Wherry, Lollards Mumbler IPA ( brewed for the pub by the North Norfolk Brewery), Humpty Dumpty Brewery Little Sharpie, Norfolk Brewhouse Skidaddler Milk Stout and Panther Brewery Spring Pale Ale. Between us we tried the Humpty Dumpty, Norfolk Brewhouse and the Panther ales and they were all in fine condition.

Real ale kind of place and only had three on tap. That said, a lively pub and a nice beer garden. Would of stayed for a few more but there was a weekly quiz on and the place was packed.

No volveré a visitar.

Like the olde worlde feel. The staff were very welcoming and the cider (dry) I tasted was very good. One to put on my list for a summer evening bike ride!

Went in with my wife after taking a riverside walk. Asked what decent cider they served and barman immediately offered me a sample to taste. (Which was excellent so ordered a pint). A really comfortable pub where we felt relaxed right away. Pub is well known as haunted but didn't see any ghosts. Would strongly recommend as a great place to relax over a drink. Good wifi too!

Good pub with a lot of activities offered. Nice atmosphere and a friendly landlord. Gruesome history as a site where heretics were executed. It faces a lovely bridge on the riverside walk.

I live locally. Single, gay guy & have visited twice. First visit was with a friend who took me as he thought I should go and second was as a “solo” visit. 1st Visit - The pub was not over full, but several distinct groups were there and they seemed to be having a good time. We managed to have turned up on a Sunday afternoon when they were about to have a bingo session. On arrival we spoke to the “barman”who took our drinks order and served us. He was not very “hospitable”, just took order and did not enter into conversation at all. We took our drinks and sat down. Generally we felt uncomfortable I must say. Not put off by this visit I thought I really should visit again. So plucking up the courage (always difficult to do these things if you are single) I went in. This time I was served politely and took my seat. Again the pub was not busy for a Sunday lunchtime. The people in were a mixed group again. Yet again no general “banter” from the barman, which is a shame. A missed opportunity to perhaps chat to a new single member of the community. Generally the pub is clean, interesting history but unless your part of a “crowd or certain group” you will leave feeling more isolated and down than perhaps you would hope. 😞

Myself and a friend walked passed this fine looking establishment on Tuesday night and decided to walk back and have a pint and something to eat after a hard day. The service was very friendly and we were served promptly but unfortunately on that night the only food they had was a sort of cabinet on the side of the bar with a few pies, pasties and cakes.... fine for a snack but surprisingly poor pub fare. Its a shame as we would have stayed there if they would have been able to feed us a meal.

I phoned the pub to ask about wheelchair access, and they said it's good, but I'm always am a bit uncertain about what I'll find when I arrive. The pub was crowded on a Friday night, boosted by a nearby cycling event (the Gas Hill Gasp - I was there as a spectator/supporter!). No word of a lie, everything was accessible! Unusually for a pub/restaurant, the access was very good, down to the separate/dedicated loo, which had everything you need in the right place to access from a wheelchair. It makes such a difference to not be worried about the call of nature when you're out to relax and enjoy yourself.

I have often joked that a cut of wages should just go straight behind the bar of this pub, as whenever I want to celebrate or catch up with friends it's my destination of choice. I rarely miss the quiz on a Wednesday, which is always great fun, and spent 3 weekends over Christmas 2016 partying at Lollards and having a great time. The staff - Billy, Liam and Tara - always make me feel welcome, it's very warm and cosy in the winter and had a large beer garden for those summer nights. I've written this after reading the review concerning NYE 16, which really surprised me. I was there and had such a great time. I have no problem with the bar being closed for midnight, the staff work hard to keep the customers happy and should have a chance to celebrate with them. I'm sorry the previous reviewer didn't enjoy their night, but boogieing under the glitter ball I was have a whale of a time!

I've visited this pub over the year as a Norwich resident. I heard there was a death of the owner or manager earlier in the month. Not impressed with the welcome or the atmosphere. There was no host to welcome or encourage solo visitors to join in the lacklustre life in the pub. Typical of gay now open to every one pubs if you are part of a group you are okay.I heard an announcement the bar was closed for 10 minutes. Advanced notice will have been appreciated. I was refused a drink. With an empty glass, no sense of being welcomed and a lack of atmosphere I left.

There are certain pubs and bars that you feel welcome in, within a second of entering, and this it that type of pub, the bar service is quick and efficient, with good priced drinks aswell, the snacks and food is reasonably well priced with a fair amount of choice, the building itself is interesting enough with history at every turn,Well recommend to anyone in the local area!!

Having used Lollards Pit, on a number of occasions it being a Gay Bar not Restaurant , it has been disappointing. The history is great but the atmosphere is totally lacking. At best we've been amongst thirty people, which was a birthday party at worst bar tender and four or five is the norm. As for food, as I understand it's only sandwiches, sausage rolls and snacks. The music, on occasions has been good, although repetitive. The pool table is wedged in a room where if you're not careful you can knock the wall lights off the wall. One reason for going back is the meetings on the third Friday of the month of the Norwich Mature Gay Comunity. They organise various events throughout the month and manage to "lift" the atmosphere.

Went here in Feb 2014. Nice to see it all done out. Really cozy proper pub. Coat hooks, ales on tap, cheesy music, nice service, nice comfy smoking area outside and best of all... a pool table! The table is a little too close to the fruit machines but nice to see a pool table in a city pub. Very nicely done out pub.

Lollards is a great place to meet the mature gay man. Great atmosphere, lively music from the 70's and 80's and a great place for gay men to socialise. Particularly busy on Fridays and Saturdays or enjoy a quieter time early in the week or Sunday.Close to the river and other gay venues.Looking forward to eating there too

Really nice and cosy pub with good outdoor seating. Nice choice of draught beer/ale. Everyone who works there is really nice. Only downside is it’s a bit more on the pricey side and I always struggle to get a place to sit - sometimes it’s a bit too popular for its own good. Not much they can do about that though

Love going to this BB's as you can usually get a seat and its tucked away in a quiet area in the castle quarter. The food is always tasty and the drinks are good too. The service is quick and they are always friendly with plenty of smiles. The staff seem to enjoy working there as well which I think makes for a nice atmosphere. They obviously have regulars who they have chats with and a catch up but are not pushy if you dont want to talk much. They seem very genuine. Keep up the good work.

Atmospheric pub in Norwich, well located with smiley, friendly car staff. My only gripe is they are cashless so I had to put £2.50 for a tonic water (driving!) on a card, they would have lost any profit in charges, cash should always be an option imo.
