We have family who recently moved to the area and so now regularly stay in the village. When we come we really look forward to visiting the Loddiswell Inn. The pub is very well run and the landlord/landlady are extremely friendly and hospitable. There is a great range of food, drinks and bar snacks available and the atmosphere is really friendly. Our kids and dog feel very comfortable here too. We have eaten in the pub a few times and are yet to have anything but great food. We will be back as often as we can.

Great variety menu and the portions were huge for the money. Can’t fault it as we were a table of 8 and it was really quite busy in there even though a Monday and we hardly had to wait at all. The lasagna was huge, great chips, I had vegan cottage pie which was lentils and veggies, piping hot and was very good actually. Pie was great and scampi. New owners since the pandemic ended and I think they’ve done very well. Great food, huge portions and lots of hand gel stations so they’re doing all they can. Few picnic tables outside end you can just watch everyone also. I’d definitely go again.

Popped in for a quick drink with friends and ended up staying for a quick dinner! Good friendly welcome from the landlord and landlady! Nice selection of very reasonably priced ales & lagers along with a tranquil but vibrant atmosphere. I had scampi, accompanied by ‘proper decent’ chips and traditional garden peas - cost less than a tenner! Finished off by relaxing on the sofa. No thrills, proper pub, good grub and a cold pint! We visited this pub as a family whilst on holiday in Loddiswell as we had read the amazing reviews below about the food. We were sorely disappointed with what we were served. The pies had a visible morrisons stamp on and were clearly not fresh or home made, the scampi and fish had come straight from the freezer, as were the chips. They did not cater to vegetarians or vegans, albeit they did try and cater for it, however this resulted in being served green beans and peas straight from the freezer again. The ladies serving were lovely, however the food was not up to scratch. Would be good to visit if you were just having a drink.

The Loddiswell Inn's Fish & Chip Friday's were already the best fish & chips in the area but now they have topped that by making them gluten free! To create such a light and crispy batter that coeliacs and those following a gluten free diet can enjoy is fantastic. The fish is fresh and very tasty too with great chips and a choice of garden or mushy peas to top it off. Highly recommended - Thank you!

We were staying in Loddiswell for a week on holidays. This is a very friendly pub, both the staff and locals made us feel very welcome, we didn't get to know everyone's names (sorry) but Sam, behind the bar, was always lovely and chatty as were all staff. We watched a couple of the World Cup games there and enjoyed the atmosphere and general banter. The pub does some great food and has special offer nights which are amazing value for money. Thursday has 2 steaks (with all the trimmings) for £20 or £25 depending on weight of steak. The portions are huge. Fish and chip Friday is also very popular with freshly battered fish, all made to order.Great local to spend some time in. Thanks

The staff and many local residents were friendly and the food was excellent. Between us we had the standard pork roast (there was a choice of three meats and three different sizes of roast) and a chicken curry. The meat, potatoes and gravy are served on the plate with seasonal vegetables brought to the table. The chicken curry was full of chicken and flavour. The pub had a choice of real ales. We were staying down the road and so this pub turned into our local for the week. We ate here 3 times during the week in the end. We booked in for the Friday night fish & chips night as recommended by the owners of the accommodation we were staying in. We turned up with 9 yr old daughter and flat coat retriever in tow and were welcomed. It was a good job we had booked as it was busy and very popular. We obviously had to have the fish and chips, however there were other choices available if you didn't want this. When it came out it was huge however it was beautiful, the fish was lovely and the batter really crispy and fresh. Yes you had to wait, however it was obvious the food was being cooked from fresh and was worth the wait.

We have eaten here three times during our stay near the village. This is definitely not a gastro pub so do not expect trendy ingredients and food "towers". But .. Our fish and chips were some of the best that I have had recently and my gammon steak was delicious. Been coming to Devon for years and passed this pub many times. We thought we would give it a go.We both plumped for the gammon.Bearing in mind the pub was very quiet we waited a good half hour for our food. The gammon was a 12oz and filled half the plate.the remainder was filled with a mountain of chips and some dry new peas.I don't think it was worth £10 95.On a Thursday as with all steaks its half price and this would be about the correct price. The pub was over run with dogs.

We were drawn here by an old guide book for a local walk. Were not sure about the pub when we first arrived, but it was full of locals. Sunday lunch came in kids, standard and large servings. Glad we went standard as it seemed very substantial so can't imagine what the large would be like. It featured a huge slab of beef which just melted in the mouth. And all the vegetables were perfectly cooked, Al dente. Washed down with good wine. What a find. And if you do the walk down by the river and disused rail track, you can then stop for coffee and the garden centre just out of the village. Both places are dog friendly.

We were looking for a suitable place for lunch and not having much luck due to it being the Sunday before Christmas and most places were full. Our search went wider and wider with no luck. I stopped and asked a local man if he knew of a nice place that might be available. He answered that yes he did but would not reveal it unless we lived in the area. Fortunately we do, and were directed to this lovely village with the Inn right in the middle of the village but way of the main routes. The place is very pleasant and well mmaintained. We were made very welcome upon entering, and although they were busy and most tables occupied , a table was found very quickly and drinks brought to our table. We ordered the standard size Sunday roast offering a choice of meats. The roasts come if three sizes , childs , standard and large. together with a host of alternate dishes including fish. Although we were hungry , the standard size roast was more than enough to eat, so sadly we did not feel able to sample the various puddings / sweets that were on offer.Card payments are accepted as well so no worrys about finding cash out in the ' sticks ' Our host Jason made us very welcome , we did not feel pressured to leave as soon as we had finished. I enquired about accepting larger partys and was told they would be made very welcome providing some notice was given.Altogether , we had a very pleasant experience, and one we shall be returning to for more enjoyment.

We had been recommended to visit this Inn, ordered 2 rib eye steaks cooked medium rare, when they arrived they looked ok but when you cut into them it was obvious they were thoroughly cooked, in fact my husband turned his over and it was crucified. As no one asked about our meal we had to as it until the table was cleared to voice our concerns. This is not acceptable practice for a place that was not overly busy.

Very poor service from the bar person from the minute we stepped in. Only one real ale available, and wine was Leibfroumilc. There were several items not available from the menu, all the meals were served with chips, no baked potato, no new potato, no mash . When asked, the staff were not able to give any indication of what type of fish was in the fish pie. We ordered barnsley chops and after waiting 15 minutes we were told that they too were sold out. There appeared to be a delivery service going out every few minutes, so someone was receiving the care and attention, but not the customers at the Inn. We did not stop.

Phoned and booked a table at the Loddiswell Inn on Wednesday 6th August for 4 people at 8pm which was great.Turned up at the Loddiswell Inn on Thursday 7th August when it all started going downhill from here.We were shown to our table 15 minutes after our scheduled time and then our order was takenand this was the last we saw anyone for 1 hour 15 minutes. When the food finally turned up our steak was overcooked or under cooked, the liver and lamb chop that came with the mixed grill was like eating a piece of rubberIf the food had been served on time we would of been sent it back to the kitchen so they could of cooked our steaks the way we asked for them to be cooked but because of the lengthy delay and we were hungry we just ate what we could and then paid and left as we had two children with us who were tired after a long day at the beach. Also we were offered no apology from any of the staff for this delay as there attention was mainly spent on the locals. My recommendations would be if the Loddiswell Inn after going to offer discounted food and they expect to be busy then they need to employ more staff so the customer gets the service that they are looking for rather than one person attending to 50-60 people. So we won't be going back.Sorry Uncle Chris!RegardsKevin

We are relatively new to the area and have been warmly welcome by Helen, the Landlady, and regulars alike. Sunday roasts are the best I have had from a pub - just like home cooking and great value. We always treat ourselves to at least one Sunday lunch per month and more when friends are visiting! (Just remember to book)The pub has a great atmosphere, with many extras throughout the year - well attended quiz nights (out of season), charity events, meal specials and a good value takeaway service (with free local delivery).Kids and dogs are welcome - as long as they are well behaved and kept on a lead (only the dogs, of course!). Our kids love going there - as long as they get to choose what they eat (my daughter is particularly keen on the (home cooked) Ham, egg and chips!)

Always seem to have various deals on, advertised on boards on the roadside, especially out of season. Half price 'meat' day is a particular favourite as well as '2 for 1' roasts. As we drove past last Saturday we noticed the board this time advertising free meals for children, so rang to book a table for 7.45pm that night, confirming the offer applied to one free child’s main meal per adult meal.A cosy village pub where we have eaten many times and the food is always pretty good. Staff are friendly, if a bit frantic when trying to get meals out when busy. The chicken curry was deemed as excellent and ‘too much to eat’. I had a medium rib-eye steak (£13.95) which came out rather more well done than medium. A16oz rump steak (£14.95) was complimented on, all the choices in our party of seven were enjoyed with no complaints.Deserts were around £4.25 - a choice of about 5 - including banana split, various Salcombe ice creams, profiteroles (although had run out when we tried to order them), fresh raspberries and sticky toffee pudding.Tables can be reserved and dining is either in the bar area or up a few stairs on a mezzanine level.Service is a bit ad hoc and we waited 45mins to be served, but were warned when we booked that it would be busy. When we came to pay, we were charged for the child’s meal, being directed to a notice that said the offer only applied between 5-7pm. No mention of this on the sign outside nor were we advised on booking, but could have been a problem if eating there was conditional on getting the offer. When pointed out to the waitress, she apologised for the incomplete advice on the phone and for having to wait to be served.Overall, a good meal enjoyed by our party, although slightly dampened not getting the offer we were expecting.

As a party of 16 we booked an evening meal here for September 19th over 2 months before our stay nearby. We were sent the menu so that we could inform the Anchor exactly what each person wanted for starter, mains and dessert and this was done promptly and the order sent back. Two days before we were due to eat there, the person who had organised the meal contacted the Anchor by phone to check everything was still O.K. She was assured it was. Our party turned up and ordered drinks in the bar beforehand. Ordering took ages and we were disappointed that the pub had run out of cabernet sauvignon. Not the end of the world ..... but it was a portent of what was to come. An hour later we were shown to our seats. Imagine our consternation when we were then told, despite the assurances only 2 days before, that none of the things that we had ordered months before were available and we would have to order from the totally different, and much poorer, menu that they were now using. It was too late to find somewhere else to eat so reluctantly we stayed and placed new orders. Soon after ordering, the waitress came out to say some of us would need to change our orders as they hadn't got sufficient prawn starters or fish and chips as a mains. We were less than impressed but felt sorry for the waitress being sent out repeatedly to give us bad news. The meal was edible, nothing out of the ordinary. Then we asked for the bills which we had asked to be done by couple. Every single one was incorrect. There was also a mysterious "extra dish" charged on each bill of varying amounts. When this was queried we were told they didn't know how else to put on a srvice charge!!!! It was absolutely unbelievable. One total mess up after another after another. Based on our experience this establishment should not be in business. Atrocious management that would have made Fawlty Towers look good. None of our group would ever consider returning. It was a memorable evening but for all the wrong reasons. I still can't quite believe it.
