A wonderful find as the Pubs were shut an oasis in the desert. Taking my 91 year old Dad on a day out, to the area he stayed in as young child. When we went to the local pub it was closed and he was in need of a cuppa. As we drove through Lockton we saw the Tea Room and as there was a parking space directly opposite so we stopped. The Tea room was busy and there was a table for two. We looked at the menu which was small but very comprehensive, so it was tea for two a Cream Scone and a pastry. The tea was served in two teapots with built in strainers proper tea leaves. The food was outstanding as was the service by the staff. The bathroom was clean and fresh. A true Gem of a place there is also a loyalty card buy 8 drinks get one free. As it was winter the Tea room has limited opening hours so check before you travel.

Visited for lunch and it was wonderful! I had one of the specials- a bagel with cheese, egg, cream cheese, caramelised onions, sesame seeds and rocket. It was truly the best bagel I’ve ever eaten (better than ones I’ve had in New York!). This combination worked so well together and every element was perfect. The bagel was a proper one (not ordinary bread in a bagel shape that you get in so many places). Coffee was good too. My parents loved their rarebits and it was helpful that a smaller portion was on offer as the cakes were also wonderful. The lemon curd sponge and cappuccino sponge were both really light and moist with really smooth, light buttercream (not the usual kind). It is a lovely place to sit and enjoy a snack and has the added bonus of the shop area at the front. I am really pleased with the knitted pumpkin I bought! My only advice is to book a table- otherwise you may be disappointed!

The gallery & tearoom coexist successfully in a small space with a happy buzz from customers eating in & buying food to take away. The blueberry crumble slice could have been bigger & less stodgy but the flat white was delicious - quite simply the best coffee I've had in ages. Worth nipping out to Lockton!

Superb attention to detail, everything delicious. Phil from Lancashire (below) is what is so wrong with our society, some entitled twerp complaining about how his avocado should be more mashed and God knows what else. Note to you Phil: you should take the example of this cafe, produce something of worth to the community with some skill (if you have any) instead of assuming anyone cares about your nit-picking patronising opinion just because the internet provides you with a public opportunity to make a mockery of yourself.

First visit here for breakfast. We had a range of things. Mine was the Turkish eggs. Pretty good, possibly too much yogurt for me. Expresso again not bad but not a patch from roost itself the day before. Choc biscoff cake was excellent. My partners avocado should have been mashed more and definitely some other flavour, specifically something sharp. Nice relaxed surroundings and the art to look at.

After a robust hike up, down & around the Hole of Horcum, this was always going to be a welcome rest & refuelling destination. But oh it was so much more! Creamy mushrooms, salads extraordinaire, sensational sausage rolls and the cakes !!! The freshness of the dishes and the service stood out too. We recovered, then we chilled, then we grinned - finally leaving feeling fulfilled and a new favourite lunch time place now on our radar. As they maybe no signs on the Pickering - Whitby road, just turn left towards Lockton & Levisham and you’ll find it.

As soon as my family walked in we were greeted with “We have no room for you.” I may have taken it the wrong way as this place was recommended to me by a fellow Australian, but it felt discriminatory so we left. Superb little place! We had lunch, coffees and cakes, all were first rate. Went back next day for takeaway coffees and again were super. You always know you are going to get good coffee when they serve a small flat white (not a latte masquerading as a flat white which drives me crackers!). Highly recommended a visit. No kids menu but the owners were lovely and happy to make a smaller (and cheaper) kids versions for us. The carrot cake was incredible. Can't wait to return! Thanks guys, keep up the great work.

We wanted to stop off for tea and cake before our journey home and we came across signs for this along the road so decided to risk it, and so glad we did. Not only is this set in the most quaintest of villages, but it's that perfect mix of modern mixed with traditional. Friendly staff and gorgeous cakes that looked like they were baked from fresh. My cake was really unique in flavour, and attention to detail on my husbands cake with the edible flower and gold shimmer was fab. My only gripe (and it's a small one), was that we were charged for the sachets of sugar that we used in our drinks, which is a first for us. I'm assuming it may have something to do with the sugar tax, but was a little shock to the system for us. Would still definitely recommend though for any passer-bys. Looked like a really nice village to take a walk around too.

We were looking for somewhere to eat our picnic, due to pandemic, not many places able to open so we packed our own lunch. We drove through Lockton and found a couple of spaces outside a tea room. After getting out and checking it was closed (would have bought something from them if it had been open) we thought we'd eat our lunch. No sooner had we opened a sandwich the owner banged on our window, when we opened it he insisted we move and park on the road as it was private parking. Obviously he'd not gone to public relations and marketing school. We packed up and drove out and sat opposite his private parking and ate our lunch, took all of ten minutes but it has done his business no good at all. We are in difficult times and people need to show a little kindness which this man was severely lacking. We won't visit his place when it is open and have told many friends about this. We are fairly local to this place so is attitude will have lost him business

Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and good to be able to sit outside. The cakes were delicious and it was great that there were two gluten free options available. There was a group of 9 of us so we tried most of them between us and everyone was very happy with their choice.

I was up in Lockton doing DIY with a friend next door to this tea room. We were welcomed by a lovely wood burning stove, friendly owners, and gorgeous home-made food. What a delight in a gorgeous village setting. This is what village life is about.

We went there as part of a large group staying at the Youth Hostel, I found the fresh food both reasonably priced and well cooked and presented . Service was great, interested but not hurried, food was hot and tasty. We will definitely be returning as this is close to lots of our favourite cycling , walking and trail running routes. Good luck to them they've created a great place for food and I hope they are very successful.

Whilst staying in Lockton we wanted a quick breakfast our our way out for the day. The tea rooms was warm, comforting and very welcoming on a chilly morning. The bacon sandwiches were delicious and the owners attentive. Perfect!

Had a wonderful meal at Lockton Tearoom Tuesday Supper Club. We hit it lucky in that our stay in Lockton coincided with this monthly event. We had goulash which was cooked to perfection, beef topped with celeriac mash, followed by Spotted Dick and custard. We got a warm welcome from the hostess and enjoyed a cosy evening and left feeling totally satisfied.

We stopped for lunch here on the way up to Whitby. It's small but we had no trouble getting a table. The food was lovely and the selection of cakes was especially good. We all had a different cake for pudding and I have to say everyone was absolutely delicious.

Nice cosy cafe in winter, nice grassy outside area to sit if you want to enjoy the sun. Been here a few times and always enjoyed the tea and cakes on offer. Nice and friendly with good homemade cakes.

This isn't a large place and has a country kitchen feel to it which makes for a cosy and pleasant atmosphere. The food is delicious and home cooked. It's great if you are walking in the area or as it's just off the main road good for a stop on the way to/ from the coast. It's dog friendly and has some nice vegetarian options. The owners greeted us with a friendly smile and were helpful with local knowledge, they are happy to refill water bottles for walkers. This seems to be the kind of place where you end up talking to the people at the next table and swapping ideas about places they'd recommend and telling them where you'd advise! Thoroughly worth a visit, such a relaxed friendly place with great food.

In retracing our steps to Levisham visited some years ago we aspyed these tea rooms which had not existed way back then. The tea rooms are an eclectic mix of tables and chairs which when combined with the art works around go very well together. We found out that almost everything was home made including the salad dressings and jams. The cakes were to die for making choice difficult. The chosen Hummingbird sponge was delicious as was my home made Soup and home cooked ham sandwich. It was a warm welcome from the two lovely owners and our only disappointment is that we are unable to revisit as we head off home tomorrow. A definite revisit the next time we pass this away. A real treasure which we hope will enjoy great success from visitors and residents alike.

We stayed for bed and breakfast here. The house is in a beautiful peaceful setting overlooking meadows. Hosts very friendly. Comfortable bedroom. The TV reception is scrambled and there is no phone signal - so I would recommend enabling WiFi calling on your phone and bring a book 😃

We chose the Middleton arms after seeing pictures of the gammon steak on Facebook, unfortunately this was sold out on the evening we went along with a few other dishes on the menu. I ordered the potato skins starter which came as a large portion which I enjoyed followed by Whitby scampi, this was average with frozen scampi. My wife had garlic mushrooms for starter which was okay, for main she had steak pie which she said was very nice.

Having been to the Stapleton Arms at Wass on many occasions and even been shown the bedrooms, 4 of us booked B&B and evening meals. I booked online 2 rooms. The 'Superior' room £150 per night and the other £100. However, we were not aware the venue had changed hands but it almost immediately became apparent. The stairs leading to the bedrooms looked very tierd and unhoovered. The landing and our bedroom stank of burnt fat and the rooms were very basic and on opening the wardrobe I found empty drink bottles. The door to the shower had black rising up it and the shower just ran like a tap.. Our meal was fine and our friends ordered a bottle of champagne which cost £70 which we were happy to pay but when the bill for the meal arrived it was altogether £340. They had even charged extra for a blob of icecream on my pudding as they said icecream was an extra. Next morning we met at breakfast only to discover that our friend staying in the 'Superior' room, one of whom is very seriously ill and this was supposed to be a treat during a break from treatment, found the shower was not working and they couldn't find a shaving ;point. Just to add insult to injury one of our party ordered a poached egg and when it arrived the toast was burnt black on the underside and my bacon was floating in fat. Had it not been for the fact that one of our party was very ill and we didn't want to make a fuss we paid up the bill and left. Not once did the manager ask us if everything was o.k. He was totally uninterested. What a nightmare stay. Never again, The next morning I phoned to speak to the owner but she was not at work but would ring me on the Thursday of that week. She never rang. I rang back a week later and was told the owner had been given my complaint and she would ring me but another weerk later I have received no response. I suppose she is £600 better off and we will never grace their doors again.

Well…such a delightful and cosy place to be, seems like everything is happening here. A really beautiful vibe and welcoming from everyone. We came for breakfast and the food was delicious. We love to support an independent.
