We visited the pub for food and drinks. We stopped in on our canoeing trip. A group of six adults, four children. We were cold, wet and tired. Tommy and Janine gave us the warmest welcome and were so accommodating of our many questions and requests. The fish and chips cooked up by the chef were crispy and excellent. Highly recommend!

Visited as 2 couples in November, got there at about 3.35pm,, to be told the hotel was closed until 4pm even though there was somebody inside, a little off putting as we had driven a long way, not sure why we couldn’t sit in the bar area. Was shown to our top floor room which unfortunately was cold due to the radiator not working, this was soon rectified with an oil heater supplied. Despite this our stay was good, food was good, comfortable , pet friendly hotel, breakfast was good, Bob being a character, great place to take dogs for a walk, super cafe just up the road too.

Contrary to the previous review I highly recommend this hotel for an evening meal. We’ve been coming to this special area every year for the last 20 years so ‘almost’ feel like locals. The bar area was wonderfully warm and welcoming. The meal was excellent. Don’t hesitate to pay a visit.

Went to the loch shiel hotel for lunch about 12:00 on Aug 21. The bar door was open so we all went in and I looked for a member of staff. The woman I encountered was extremely rude and aggressive and ordered me to get out as the bar was closed. She became more and more angry when I explained that my wife was in the toilet. At one point I thought she was going to attack me. Absolutely awful experience. My wife and I were shaking with fear afterwards. I will never go there again and neither should you.

I chose to eat here because the menu published on the hotel website appeared to offer a couple of appealing vegetarian main course options. However, on the night these were not available. I had the choice of a shop-bought meat-substitute vegan burger on a plain bun with fries and onion rings for around £10; what was effectively pasta in a tomato sauce for £12, or a generic vegetable Thai-ish vegetable curry for £14, which I chose. It was nice enough but nothing special. For most vegetarians, these would be the sort of meals you would have as a quick mid-week, after work supper, when you had nothing much left in the fridge. They certainly did not justify their prices. For a starter I had a baked Camembert for around £8, which came with minimal preparation and would have benefited enormously from some crusty or toasted bread, rather than the rather stodgy piece of soft baguette served with it. Overall it was a disappointing exper

While on holiday in the Acharacle area, we visited this hotel for an evening meal. The food was very good, much of it freshly sourced locally especially the seafood. The staff a welcoming and friendly, and the hotel has a large garden with lovely views over open countryside. They are also dog friendly and have an area where your dog can stay with you. All in all we would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting it again.

We were staying nearby and got two pizzas to go from here. We had to wait a while in the midgy car park but they were definitely worth it - light, airy crusts and generous toppings. Not sure what the bar, restaurant or hotel were really like as we didn't go in other than to order, but there were a few tables outside too. Staff were a bit unsure if they could serve us at first, even though they did not seem busy and our B&B host had called ahead to check for us... but it all worked out and we enjoyed the food very much.

This was the most ridiculous evening we have ever had. The only highlight was speaking to the young couple opposite. The locals were half cut by 8 on a Sunday, to the point one was crawling on the floor in the lounge, where we were eating, under our table chasing our dog, and another dog which turned out, after an incoherent conversation, NOT to be hers...! The food was cold and my fish and chips was more burnt batter and burnt potato than edible fresh fish you'd expect from a place so close to the sea. Again the young couple opposite ordered the fish and chips, but one replaced the peas with beans and was presented with a comically large plate of said beans which looked like the entire tin was just emptied out. The bar maid seemed quite 'merry' herself, to the point people going to the bar from the restaurant had to ask her to get from the sofa to behind the bar to order drinks. The lights would not work and even though ourselves and two other tables were trying to eat in the dark, the staff only put them on after we tried ourselves. I do have to say though the atmosphere was lovely...a perfect picturesque view of the country accompanied by four burly drunk locals singing at the top of their lungs to the barmaids iPhone mix. P.s keep a wee eye out for the fox head that can't even bare to look at the poor guests eating in the 'lounge'.

My little girls child portion fish and chips was also generous and well cooked. The dinner itself was well priced and was standard pub food pies/fish and chips etc. Tasted good however the general experience was let down by a limited menu and wine list. Weather was windy and rainy when we reached Acharacle on our bicycles. We longed for a nice and warm place to rest, so my husband went to the hotel and ask for the price : £40/pax for a standard room on a B&B stay.Quite more than our usual campings, but although a bit old, the place looked very nice, and the welcoming was warm. We stored our bicycles under a shed. Our room was large and comfy. After a good hot shower, we went down to the bar. We both had a Ledaig and a jolly good time chatting with a local former fisherman. Then we had dinner in the dining room. For our french palates, the food was really great. We took "paté served with oat biscuits" : a smoked salmon mousse served with a fresh salad and home-made biscuits. After we choose the dish of the day "lamb cooked in casserole with vegetables" which was a true delight cooked in a spicy and perfumed sauce with fresh carrots and potatoes. The Scottish Cranachan was huge and smooth. The dining room was soon full, so was the bar and lots of people arrived all around the evening. Next morning, breakfast was scottish of course. And generous.A really charming place which I definitely recommend. The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous. We'll be glad to come back and stay longer.

We stayed in Salen at Easter 2013 and decided to go to the loch shiel house restaurant for a meal. We were surprised when there wasn't anyone else there as it was Easter .There was one person at the bar , we ordered fish & chips and didn't really look at the prices as we have eaten here in previous years and it was always reasonable before. However how shocked we were when the bill arrived £60 for 4 Fish & Chips !! It wasn't that nice either , we can only presume that the prices have been put up to an extortionate price to put people off ordering as they didn't have any other staff than the barman.Needless to say we won't ever be going again, which is a shame as it used to be ok.We have seen the hotel for sale so maybe that is why the service and prices were as they were.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
