Very Tasty Fish Chips peas gravy

Fish peas and curry sauce for a Wednesday tea the batter on the fish was awful it was so soggy no crisp to it at all and the curry and peas are in clear plastic pots which are tiny won't be going back here for sometime if this is all they have to offer for over £6 it's not good enough and although it is my nearest chippy I would rather go further afield for a decent battered fish!

Food always good. Chippy Friday wouldn't be the same without the little Chippy

Stopped here today 15/04/2023 for fish and chips and two fish cakes, perfectly cooked fish with lovely batter, chips were the best i have tasted in a long while, i will most certainly be buying my fish & chips from here in future.

Shame portions of chips have shrunk. Chips could do with another couple of minutes cooking and a few more per portion.

Absolutely packed, queuing out the door on to the street on a Friday evening. The reason why? Absolutely brilliant fish, chips and sausage! 3 fish 2 large chips 1 battered sausage, 2 peas 2 curry fed 3 of us to bursting. We probably went a little over the top but good quality food and considering how busy it was on a Friday we got out of there with the food in a decent time. The only downside side is that you are pretty much shoulder to shoulder with other guests whilst you are waiting and if you are covidphobe then it's not for you, if it was any bigger though it probably wouldn't be living up to its name of the little chippy. Parking, there's no double yellows on the main road so if you wanna be brave/cheeky and risk a wing mirror then you can have a go at parking there or if theres no room there is a car park behind the Victoria pub thats a few doors down, be warned, there are potholes that look like a Luna landscape so if you have a low bumper then be prepared to leave it behind.

Oh yes please I must concur Fish and chips please and wrap it paper, throw on some vinegar and let it soak in till later. I'll tear open the paper so I just see a hole, ill dip in my fingers and eat them on my way home. Its chippy tea for tea tonight, I think I've cracked it, the old owners in town and its tasting fantastic.

I drive past 'The little chippy' occasionally on my way home and always want to stop, yesterday i did just that. I wasn't disappointed, i can't believe I've left it this long, a traditional independent chippy with fresh fish and chips served in a sustainable cardboard box. I'm going to make this my go-to from now on. Its a 20 minute drive from Hindley Green to Salford. This journey is well worth it . I wish i could share a photo... Yum yum

Just got 2 cod really thin tale end and dark colour on back and not meaty not white and not nice taste £4 is not good value for poor quality supposedly cod, large chips were more like the small from some Chippies but £2.50 and were not fresh tasting. Gone down hill, used to be good sized cod nice chips and plenty. Won't be going back

I didn’t know it was back open since covid. Think it’s been shut for a year, maybe two during the pandemic. Called in on driving past and had to join a queue outside! Very busy and the guy who used to have it for years appears to be back. Absolutely delicious fish. Will return next Friday!

Some of the staff are fantastic. Some are snotty and rude to people who have waited a long time and not even kicked off about it. Avoid.

I have been going to this chippy for many years, I did go a couple of weeks ago and the chips were quite mushy, but last night the fresh cooked fish with light batter and chips were spot on, staff here are really helpful and friendly

We ordered between 4 of us, chips, battered cod, sausage, mushy peas and gravy. Couldn't complain about anything really except the chips looked a little anemic although they tasted good. The cod was great. Quite a large queue but that has to be a good sign. Would definitely go again

Most of the time the fish and chips are very good - light crispy batter. Have had the odd occasion where chips have been bit below par and fish batter bit soggy.... But that is very rare. Seems to be busiest 5-6pm.

Talk about made to feel unwelcome, the face and manner of the woman who served us was enough to turn my supper sour! As we stepped in the door the "greeting' WAS " HOW MANY FISH DO YOU WANT? " maybe I should have looked at the menu from outside.

How about a chippy that runs out of chips,, well this one did. Closing time was 1930 and was fobbed ar 1910. wonder if the owner knows how much money he is loosing.!

The Little Chippy is a convenient stop off point when you're feeling a little bit peckish and you can't be bothered or are too busy to cook... Which for me is most of the time, (although I don't always choose to buy from a chip shop in particular when I am not cooking at home). The prices are roughly the same or similar to other chip shops in the area, and the food servings are often generous, with well cooked food on offer. Customers buying certain menu items are encouraged to pass on their choice to the staff as soon as they step inside the building, so that the food can be prepared as soon as possible and so that delays are kept to a minimum. It's a small plaice, (sorry, I couldn't resist saying that), and often it can be a bit of a squeeze to get in to the shop during busy periods. Off road parking is available at the rear and can be accessed via Long Lane, although some customers still prefer to park on the main road and occasionally on part of the pavement.

I must say, the first time I went to Little Chippy, I could smell the seducing aroma of the fish coming from across the entire shop. I immediately ordered 3 large fish and chips (All for me!) and ate it as soon as I could. The fish melts in your mouth and the chips are perfected to crisp! Wow! I've never had a chippy this good in my life! I have gained over 10KG eating your fish and chips which is why I gave it 4 stars, that does not matter however as gaining the weight is worth trying your fish and chips! I recommend this shop if you're planning to spoil your grand children over chippy friday! UPDATE: I have recently just lost all the weight I have gained and am now ready for more chippy fridays with the grand kids. Updated the score to 5 stars!

Was a fab chippy for years, but now its a bit hit and miss. There are days when it's lovely, but today we had mushy greasy chips and greasy sweaty burned batter. Tastes like the oil needs changing. Fish was very dry and overcooked inside. Disappointed.

We read the reviews on Tripadviser as we were looking for a lovely northern chippy. We had driven up from Cambridge to collect a car part, so we're very hungry. Opened at 4, 4.15 the doors were locked but we could see staff cooking, one man outside knocked on window to ask them to unlock. Once inside, no one said hello. My husband walked forward to place the order and the girl looked straight over his shoulder and asked me what we would like. Had to repeat my order to get it correct! No northern friendliness, I was born in Manchester & have family there but got to say on this occasion our local chippy is much more friendly! Can't fault the food though

I have been using this choppy for over 40 years and even though it changed hands many years ago it still remains one of the best in the Wigan Area, the quality, price, taste,and service are second to none, and the owner has another Chippy, at Chapel Green also in Hindley, Wigan with the same level of provision and the staff are just as courteous, because it's that bit nearer to home therefore visit more often the staff know my order as soon as I walk in Peter

Absolute rubbish a bag full of slush which was meant to be potatoe and a burnt fish ! Waste of time ! Very rarely fancy a chip shop tea that's the best they can do ! Them chips hadn't been fryed long enough all stuck to the paper you couldn't pick one chip up it was a mass of oily potatoe slush yuk !

Sorry called again last week at tea time place was busy and the fish and chips were still not hot, warmer than last time. the batter was not up to slandered. now looking for a better chippy.

Been going here for over 30 yrs, its was the best chippy and only 2 min from home, but last Tuesday 2/2/16 lunch time the fish was warm and over cooked with more batter than fish, and the chips were warm. hope this was a one off or are they going down hill, will give it one more chance if no improvement its goodbye from all the family.

Been goin this chippy 4 over 35 yrs the previous owners to the one now where spot on it was the best chippy for miles around although the fish and chips are not as good as they where prevoiusly they are still the best in the area and its all to do with consistency sometimes they have it spot other times they do not which is a shame as fish and chips r not cheap anymore! Will still frequent this chippy as when they do get it right its good and theres no other decent chippy in the area if u do go futher afield pepper lane chippy in standish is one of the best .

What happened to the decent chip shops in Wigan? They were taken over by new management and ruined, or at least they lost the good food that made them great, that in turn stopped some of us from traveling a few miles to get to them. Well this one for my money is the only one i'll travel more than 5 minutes to get to. Sure there are maybe 30 chip shops closer, but this one is worth a 15-20 minute trip to get to, even knowing that the food wont be quite as hot when I get them home, but the food from here is always worth the journey.

If you're after a traditional English chippy then this is the place to come.Consistent on quality and taste, The Little Chippy is great value for money. I've been using the Little Chippy for years and it is consistently good for quality and value. Living locally means that I am lucky enough to be able to walk here and back and still have hot fish and chips when I get home! Love it.........:-)

This is literally the best chippy ever! I am obsessed with Chip Balms with Curry! You haven't lived until you have had a chippy from there!
