I was looking for places where I could eat gluten-free deserts, Little Bird was one of them. Lovely café, was offered 2 gluten-free deserts to choose from (which is more than I'm used to, usually there's only one).

This is a lovely café that serves fantastic (locally made) herbal teas and nice quality cakes (not homemade as far as I could see) - they had a choice of maybe 10 gateaux. It is a lovely friendly café but with only one serving member of staff so be prepared to wait a while.

Had an amazing experience here, we tried to go into the cafe across the road but they were closing and did not want any customers (understandable) So we poked in to this place and they were also closing but they let us order and sit for almost 40 minutes while they were closing up which felt really homely. Had a great cup of coffee and also this AMAZING Vegan cake (I am not vegan btw) but i just sounded so good in the description that i had to try it. And I'm so glad i did!!

Stopped for a drink whilst exploring Brighton and was not disappointed. Hot Chocolate was lovely as was the Soya Latte my partner had. Relaxing atmosphere and quick service. Cakes also looked amazing though unfortunately we decided against having one (as we were about to head to Choccywoccydoodah!) but as others have said, the chocolate cake did look all kinds of beautiful. Definitely check them out if your in the area.

We stopped at Little Bird this afternoon for tea/coffee and cake. We took the table outside and fortunately missed the rain! The cakes looked really good and drew us in, well they exceeded our expectations & were divine. I bake regularly and am quite critical, particularly if a cake looks good but is dry or tasteless. We chose vegan banana & passionfruit and vegan lemon & blueberry, both were moist & fruity and I wouldn't have guessed they were vegan, how does an eggless cake taste so good?! The staff were friendly & helpful.

We were drawn in by the cakes in the window (clearly we were not the only ones, judging by the numbers of people coming in after us). My husband owns a coffee shop in the States, so we are always interested in others' offerings. Very small shop, with some outdoor seating (I don't know what they must do in winter!). That day it was a one-woman shop, with her handling everything from making drinks to taking orders to running to the window to get slices of cake. Quite impressive, I must say. She did have a friend who kept stopping to talk to her, but it did not seem to keep this young woman from getting orders out fairly quickly. I had a nicely made latte, and a slice of cake (I don't recall which one), and my husband had a slice of banana, chocolate and pineapple GF cake. Both cakes were well made, presented attractively on the plate, and carried a good consistent flavor. I would definitely go again if we were in Brighton.

Went there today with my husband and 2 daughters, one of which has Coeliac disease. We've heard they do gluten free food, so we thought we'd try it. Their food tastes lovely, and staff is nice, but I'm not sure, all of them are aware of cross contamination, when it comes to gluten. We had our food, then I saw one of the staff cut a gluten containing cake, then put the knife she used on top of the one they're supposed to use for the GF cake. When another member of staff noticed it, instead of washing the knives, she just put them on 2 separate plates. If that's how they treat their GF food, then maybe needless to say, that my little girl ended up with bloated, achy tummy later. :(

Me and three friends went in here for a coffee, as the layout has only two seating tables we moved two tables together as there was no staff available. Once seated we then was told by the waitress that appeared that we was not allowed. She didn't bother to help us move the table or welcome us to another table. She just looked us up and down and allowed us to walk away embarrassed, still hungry and needing a coffee! Not what we expected. Wouldn't bother trying again, due to the lack of welcoming, warm customer service as well as the dead atmosphere.

We had a lovely lunch here. There was a good range of gluten-free options - these weren't all marked on the menu, but the staff informed us they could use gluten-free bread for any of the sandwiches listed, the soup of the day was also suitable and there was a cake for dessert. I had the butternut squash and sweet potato soup, which came in a large bowl and was lovely - full of flavour and mildly spicy. This also came with gluten-free bread. I then went for the pineapple, banana and chocolate cake, which was divine - very moist and the flavours really worked well together to complement each other.

Decided to come here with my family after a long day of shopping. The cakes at the window definitely attracted us into the shop. I had the banana, pineapple and chocolate cake and it was so nice. It tasted so good and the portion size is very generous. I would say that the service is a bit slow and even though it is a small coffee shop, the place is packed, so it would be helpful to have more people making drinks etc. It is also a bit pricey, I mean £4 for a cake is a bit much, despite how good it tastes. Although I enjoyed it here, I don't think I would come back due to how busy it was and the high prices.

I am so fed up with the chains and 'high-end' places for coffee and some food - particularly when their meagre vegan offerings are expensive and disappointing. So I was delighted to find The Tea Leaf today! I was freezing cold and starving and looked at the menu in the window - plenty of vegan options.. Yay! Nice and quirky inside - cushions, cosy and welcoming.. Couldn't decide between the stuffed peppers, minestrone soup, baked potato or a toasted sandwich. Eventually went for the latter-- lovely garlicky hummus, avocado at its best and veg... all served in toasted sourdough. And a lovely cup of tea with oat milk. Nosey me found that this place has only been taken over 2 months ago and, honestly, their vegan options were the best along the road (I looked at every cafe). If you want a warm welcome, quirky and a change from the same-old, same-old - theTea Leaf is for you.
