Went here as a friend compared it to Pevensey Cottage tea rooms for its oldy worldiness. It's garden setting has a sense of the 1940's, but I prefer the latter. It's a bit challenging to get to if disabled...the food a bit uninspired, and presented in a basic fashion...I had avocado on a bagel with salad...a very basic salad, and the chilli was not left off the avo as requested. Good they had some vegan cakes...but no vegan icecream or vegan cheese.

Had a lovely lunch at the tea gardens today. Myself a friend and my friends granddaughter. Service was excellent with pleasant waitress service. They were happy to add bacon to my Brie and cranberry baguette even though it wasn’t listed as such. Had a delicious blueberry and peach cake to follow and all for a reasonable price. Very impressed will definitely visit again.

Have been coming here for around fifteen years, of late however the service is slow. Last two visits in particular have been awful. Food not arriving for an hour Orders wrong etc. On the last occasion two other people had the same problem. It’s a real shame as it’s a lovely location but something has gone wrong and it’s unfortunately not looking like a one off problem.

This is a hidden gem!! Ample parking and then a short stroll up through the trees to the a larger than expected tea garden. The staff are lovely, so welcoming and friendly. Dappled sunlight under the trees made it a great place to stop for tea and cakes with our dogs. For an independent tea garden the menu is full of choice, it was so tricky to narrow the cake choice down! We will have to go back again to try others!! Service was great, the relaxed atmosphere meant we could sit and enjoy the birdsong and not be rushed. It’s a country pace of life that we all need at times. Payment is cash or bank transfer which is on a sign as you walk in. A wonderful place run by lovely people, highly recommended.

We arrived after their scheduled lunch time, but the ladies were very happy to make us whatever we wanted and handled our lack of cash payment with an old-fashioned trust that is not seen so often. They produced us a really great lunch, one veggie, one not, in lovely, unpretentious surroundings and were easy-going and good humoured too. Thanks for hosting us!

First of all waited forever for a sandwich and a scone! And why would anywhere serve the scones before the sandwiches!!! Absolutely horrified with the hygiene! The girl had a t shirt with their logo on and it was absolutely disgusting, never seen so many stains! No excuse for not washing your clothes and working with food! Maybe wear an apron!! On the plus side when the sandwiches did arrive they were nice. Wouldn’t go here again!

We went out for a pre-birthday cream tea and decided on Litlington Tea Gardens, as I’d never been there. What a pleasant surprise! The setting is just lovely, with plenty of seating, both open-air and under cover. No traffic noise, just birdsong and muted conversation from other customers. Plumped for the Sussex Cream Tea (main meal of the day!) but with two scones and a large slice of cake I had to admit defeat halfway though the cake. Such a pity, as it was a delicious Victoria Sponge. The main attractions were the scones, served still warm and with generous amounts of strawberry jam and clotted cream. There was also butter provided but I didn’t need it as the scones were lovely and moist. There were two of us and we had a large pot of tea, with extra hot water to top up. Can’t fault the service or the repast. It’s really started off my birthday nicely! Just FYI if you’re thinking of visiting - they accept cash-only payments. We didn’t expect that but fortunately had enough cash with us.

The food here is fantastic value for money and of excellent quality. We come here often and have never been disappointed. The garden and setting is tidy and welcoming with the option of out door seating or under a shelter. The staff are welcoming and happy to help in anyway. Honestly, if you are near Cuckmere or Alfriston, pop to Litlington you won't be disappointed. There is also a little shop at the entrance to the garden who sell a variety of lovely hand made things.

A lovely Tuesday afternoon visit after the bank holiday, with our 2 dogs. Ground were well kept with a mature woodland canopy. There were lots of colourful bird boxes amounts the trees and outdoor shelters. The staff, although young were very attentive and the table service was quite swift. This is a cash or bank transfer only business, so it’s lucky since have my banking app on my phone. Unfortunately our tray arrived with a dirty knife (covered in chocolate) for some reason. The scones were warm and delicious and the clotted cream goes without saying! Toilets were a bit dilapidated but have a Victorian garden feel, and we are in an historic village, so we don’t expect The Ritz! The gents was clean smelling, helped by the missing pane of glass in the skylight. The ladies again was clean but a little flakey. Despite the bad bits we will come again if in the area.

Visited for the second time, the staff were very nice but we waited a long time for two cups of poor coffee, a cheese scone which had the consistency of a rubber duck, and a slice of ‘Black Forest Cake’ which was dry, tasted stale and had some dry icing on top which resembled the fat build up one might expect in a kitchen drain - the worst cake I have ever eaten. Wasn’t offered any money off the bill however. Other customers were told there was a 50 minute wait for food - there were more staff than customers so not sure why this would be - disappointing. Here’s an idea - taste the food and drink you are serving your customers. The first visit promised a clotted cream, cream tea. The wait was horrendous and the cream was whipping cream - not clotted. Any respectable eater of cream teas will concur - ALWAYS CLOTTED CREAM.

Having visited Litlington tea gardens over the past I was very disappointed with my recent visit in August. I took my family for what I hoped would be a lovely afternoon tea but experienced bad service, stale scones with whipped cream instead of clotted cream. When I enquired I was told that they had run out of clotted cream, no apology. The gardens are delightful, toilet facilities probably unchanged since my first visit decades ago and very basic. I won’t be visiting again.

What a wonderful place for afternoon tea or lunch! My partner, his mother and I stumbled across this delightful tea garden whilst on holiday last week. How lucky were we?!! It felt just like an enchanted secret glen, with the clear blue sky above and the beautiful sunshine streaming through the trees. Luckily, many of the tables were placed in the shade, as it was a very hot day. We couldn't decide between one of the cream teas or a slice of homemade cake. The scones won and were served with clotted cream and individual pots of strawberry jam. The large scones were obviously fresh, as they crumbled when cut into and were the best I have ever tasted. We loved them so much, I ordered three more to take away, at fifty pence each. A bargain for such quality. The huge pot of tea was perfect, too. We loved the place so much, we returned the next day, to sample the cake. Again ... delicious! The slices were enormous, too. On both days we were served by lovely, young staff. Glad we don't live close by or we would be obese! Such a treat.

I ordered several cream teas, snacks plus drinks for six people. Service was very slow and lacked organisation. The drinks arrived 10 minutes before the rest of our order which should have been served individually but arrived on a large plate with a collection of cream sachets and jars of jam on a tray for us to sort out. Not enough plates or scones were provided and the order had to be queried. The toilets available for customers were particularly dingy and in need of upgrading; you had to be pretty desperate to use them. Overall a disappointing experience. What could be a really good facility is let down by what appears to be a lack of effective management.

Although the gardens themselves are very attractive, the current owners seem unable to capitalise on this asset. Several years ago one could get a very fine cream tea served with china cups and plates and the cakes and light meals were also very good. Now the food is very run of the meal and seems to use the cheapest ingredients. For example, the toasted tea cake was thin dry and unpalatable. All a great shame

Beautiful lunch - one ham salad with pasta, new potatoes, coleslaw and lots of thick smoked good quality ham, one smoked ham sandwich which came with side salad. Good strong tea too. TookAway scones and chocolate cake for home as we were stuffed, the afternoon teas looked divine with lots of cream as far as we could see. Later the cakes and scones were really good. Hand sanitiser at entrance, then shown to just cleaned table - you can't choose unaided in case you select one that hasn't been disinfected, Menus are brought to you, waiter service throughout but they don't unload the tray at the table (your job) so no food/plate contact from waiting staff. Payment is cash or bank transfer only at the outdoor booth at the moment due to broadband problems. Inexpensive. Weather dependent as all outside with plenty of shady areas for very hot days. Small plant nursery by entrance. All tables cleared and sanitised after departure. Ample cheerful and helpful staff. Delightful spot in delightful village. Parking. Gravel may or may not be easy or difficult for wheelchairs/some mobility problems - I wouldn't know. Outside loo with sanitisers to rear of tables up a sloping path. Best ring for full accessibility details. Truly magical spot and we'll be back soon.

Our sandwiches and jacket potatoes were filled with cheap margarine or spread that tasted vile. What cafe uses that these days? They weren’t cheap either, at £7 plus £1 for an extra filling ( cheese and beans). Which makes it more insulting to be served the cheapest possible ingredients. And be warned, the tables are barely cleared of crockery from the last customers and during our time there not one table was wiped, let alone disinfected, between customers. The menus are paper, but we saw them being reused for the next people. We brought elderly relatives and children and did not feel safe at all.

Sadly, the standard of the food, although exactly the same menu devised by the previous generation, has deteriorated so much as to be quite horrible. I had a microwaved jacket potato that was some days old, and although the skin was burnt, it was soggy and chewy and grey inside. My partner’s scone had been microwaved so much that the bottom was fused into the napkin beneath it and it was rock hard. His piece of chocolate cake was crusty and dry on both sides, which is quite difficult to achieve as usually you just get the dry crust on the outer side when the slice is cut. The young students serving were lovely but the food is really letting the place down.

We didn't have any cash and the staff didn't know where to find the nearest cash point. We were very disappointed but then they said it wasn't a problem - they gave us their bank details and said we could just transfer the money once we arrived home. Unbelievable that they could be so trusting. We ordered a scone with jam and clotted cream each, tea and two doggy ice creams. Everything was absolutely lovely. When we came home and tried to pay the bill it wouldn't work so the next morning my partner went over to pay in cash but they were closed! We still haven't paid it as we haven't had a chance to go back. However, please don't panic as we will be over to pay in the next week or so (with cash) and will have another nice couple of hours in the gardens drinking tea with our fur babies!! Thank you

We had not been to Litlington tea gardens for approximately 7 years and my has it changed, and not for the better. Plastic single-use containers for the cream. Two teeny tiny, single-use jam jars for the two underbaked scones. Dry and bland chocolate cake. As for the atmosphere well.... The young owner / manager has a playpen for his toddler outside the kitchen. He moves from there to the kitchen taking his child with him where he curses and shouts for all to hear. Gone forever the quiet refinement of yesteryears. The only area that has stayed the same is that they still don't take cards, this is a cash-only establishment and proudly so with a large sign at the entrance informing you of this.Goodbye Litlington tea gardens we won't be returning.

Walked to tearoom but do know there is a large car park area. Crystal shop, gift shop and new woodcarving shop enroute to tearooms.A fabulous area for dining. Benches outdoors, tables tucked away under cover, intimate spaces for privacy. Small written menu, some specials on blackboards dotted around. Wasn't sure if table service or order at hatch. Eventually saw two waitresses wandering around looking to deliver food and drinks to numbered tables. Our four orders arrived on one tray, different items sharing one plate! Stacked plates underneath for us to distribute. My tea cake was wrapped in a serviette (reminded me of a burger from McDonalds!). Toilets not the best and few. Aprons for girls not flattering. Prices very reasonable. With a little tweaking could run more smoothly. Working in a tearoom myself, this is a personal observation.

This was very disappointing as we had travelled nearly 45 minutes on this glorious autumn afternoon. Having just read past reviews it seems common practice for the paid staff to abandon ship when it suits. This tea garden used to be fabulous, now it is bordering on comical with the last laugh on its customers.

I would like to have able to review the Tea Gardens, but found that it was closed. We arrived at 4.00 ( Opening Hours state that it is open until 5.00). There were two couples having their tea but the servery was closed. One of the couples said that they had just got their tea 'by the grace of God!' The two waiters were to be seen driving off leaving the cups etc of the two couples on their tables.

I came here a couple of years ago, and was enchanted by the setting. My return visit yesterday was a disappointment, though, due to a combination of delay and rudeness, and I'm not sure I'll be coming back.

Quite secluded Gardens on different levels,Toilets need improvement.Food was delicious, staff were friendly but servuce was slow. Saying that we were not rushed along or to leave.Main car park was large.Nice crystal shop, charming gift shop and a run down nursery.Food was good, soup delicious, cake ok,nothing amazing . Price the same as other cafes in the area.Having read other reviews ,it seems that enjoyment is dependable on which day you visit.

I have been going to Littlington tea rooms for years and couldn`t fault it.I went last year, waited half an hour to be served. The bread was stale and the cucumber a quarter of an inch thick. The scone had apparently been microwaved with the paper napkin so the two had been amalgamated, making it impossible to eat the lower half. When I complained I was given a refund and told they were short staffed. No apology.I decided never again.Today is a lovely sunny day so I decided to have one more go.The place was not very busy, but I waited five minutes, then went to the counter."I can`t serve you I`ve got all these orders to do so you`ll have to wait half an hour."I decided not to wait.It seems that the only place you can get service in this country is at Mcdonalds.

Its a lovely setting, especially on a nice day but - Oh Dear! - the food offer is dire. Apart from the cream teas everything else is straight from the 1970's, "baked" potato with tinned beans, sandwiches of supermarket bread with a tired piece of cheese, "garnished' with a couple of leaves of iceberg lettuce and a portion of tinned sweetcorn.

We planned to include a stop here as part of our walk as we have many times before as this is a lovely location. However despite the tea garden not being particularly busy waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order and then tried to politely catch one of the staff's attention to politely ask if someone could take our order whereupon we were given a look of contempt and told that she was busy. We waited a further 10 minutes and then walked out in disgust. We did notice that some people who arrived sometime after us were being served before us so clearly service was quite random and took no account of the order in which people arrived . A customer on a neighbouring table told us she had also been waiting ages for someone to take her order . This is a great shame as this tea garden is a unique and distinctive location but is being let down by staff who don't seem to care about customers. We cannot comment on the food or drink as we did not get an opportunity to place our order. In fairness in our previous visits here which were some time some time ago we had no problem . After walking out we finished our walk at Exceat where we went into the café and a waitress took our order within 2 minutes despite this café being busier than the tea garden and our tea and cake arrived within a further 5 minutes and was very good.My advice therefore is please get you act together as this was always a wonderful old establishment. We would love to come back here but could not face another experience like this after a 10 mile walk in the heat.

The food is over priced and average, pretty little place though with a lovely location, gift ship and beautiful crystal shop

We visited for a coffee on our way back from walking In Abbot's Wood in the bluebells. Nursery is on it's last leg. The gardens are beds of shrubs and weeds. The tables have plastic cloths with stains on them. We ordered 3 cappuccinos having specifically asked if they had a espresso machine. Well what we got was certainly NOT cappuccino. This tea garden was once a jewel in the East Sussex countryside but it is sadly tarnished. We won't be going back

Visited with friends one afternoon. The location and garden is nice enough. Unfortunately the food wasn't great. Cake was dry. Sandwich was dry and dull. Jacket potato was dull. Not a great experience.

This once excellent tea garden, with pleasant young staff dashing about with reasonable efficiency and usually excellent tea/snacks, has become a shadow of its former self. Maybe it was an off day, but waiting almost 30 minutes for a simple pot of tea is not acceptable, particularly when the place was barely a third full. And the prices keep creeping up.

When the next day, you’re still talking about how bad the service was, and watch every table you arrived before get served, eat, and leave. Literally lunch was over before we got served our lunch. Service was friendly on arrival, but that’s when it ended too. No one wanted the warm-ish food when it finally arrived. We didn’t leave a tip, and that’s super rare to annoy us that much.

What a dissapointment. Booked tablet for 7pm our starter was served on burnt enamel oven dishes with 5 mushrooms for the breaded mushrooms starter. Waited 50 mins for the main. Mixed grill all the meat was burnt black as charcoal underneath. Hunters chicken cooked so much it could not be cut with a knife. Ended up getting our money back.

We visited your cafe for tea and cake and the customer service we received was appalling, the tables were dirty and not being cleared or cleaned. We won’t be back.
