Hmmm, not sure why people are reviewing the car park or the hospital waiting times. It's not like you would choose to stay at a hospital (!) I am reviewing the small cafe in the hospital foyer which is open during the day. They sell sandwiches, snacks and cold drinks. They also advertise that they sell Costa Coffee. I had been to the hospital and wanted to get some lunch as I had not had anything to eat so got a sandwich and a drink. Although it was busy staff were working hard to clear the queues which they managed. The seating area was clean and well presented even though it was busy.

The worst car park I have ever used. Extortionate charges £3.70 for 20 minutes!!! Exceptionally poor design with insufficient room to manoeuvre, illogical layout. Very narrow ramps between floors with low metal barriers that have clearly damaged huge numbers of cars. Low metal barriers that are not always picked up reliably by reversing sensors. Low metal barriers show lots of different colour paint and scrapes - evidence of where they have damaged cars. Sometimes congested at busy times. At minimum the ramps need rebuilding to substantially widen, and the low metal barriers need replacing with a design that is more visible and less prone to cause damage. In a word AVOID parking here if you possibly can!

As a previous H&S manager and now a Senior Operations manager of 5 catering outlets for a global company I feel qualified to write this review. There are no allergen notices displayed, in fact the cakes and hot pastries aren’t labelled at all so you have no idea what you are ordering (let alone calories or ingredients). The table we sat at was dirty, the barista machines were filthy and the counter tops were just as bad, the drinks weren’t being dispensed in order of purchase and the till was left open with the staffs back to it whilst they were making drinks. The place is a shambles and doesn’t not meet basic Food safety standards which appalling in a hospital setting.

Firstly, waiting staff are very helpful and friendly. The management need to refurbish the staff/public restaurant on the second floor. The menu changes on a daily basis, however everything looks the same and a bit anemic. The Costa coffee shop needs to be opened a bit longer with a better offering and cleaned on a regular basis.

Coffee nicely and correctly made. Nice place outside to sit and drink the coffee. Pity it is not open 24 hours since it is at a hospital which is open 24 hours.

I fancied a jacket potato can't go wrong with these surely but you can. Only had sweet potato left. No bother. Well I should of know when the unreal cheese didn't melt. It was luke warm and stringy. And the atmosphere of the place was like the 1980's but worst. Staff moaning, staff restaurant chatting, staff not cleaning tables properly. Oh it's just gross. Won't be eating here again in a hurry!! Yuck!!

Took my partner today as his carer as could hardly walk. I know there's a pandemic but thought I would be allowed in and was for over an hour and a half. But then a head nurse (not sure who she was actually) told me I had to leave and my partner wouldn't stay no matter how hard I tried to pursued him too. So I have a crippled partner who won't go back and he needs seeing too, not sure what to do but I won't be going to this hospital until after the pandemic or I may never again after, as she was very rude which she didn't have to be. 3 stars to the nice staff who understood why I was there. Wouldn't give any to the other woman whoever she was, and yes she was a member of staff but has no patient manners

Although the coffee is good but pricey, my main complaint is that when asking for it to be served in their proper non disposable cups you are told no. When I mention recycling concerns I am told it takes too much people power to process the cleaning! Sorry costa you failed🙁

By and large a very well run, welcoming hospital. Has a canteen, food not bad, serve breakfast, , lunch and tea. Handy hotel next door, two pubs within easy walking distance. All the departments as standard. Looking a bit dilapidated- built in 1972. The staff were helpful but rushed. Saw queues everywhere, in pharmacy, phlebotomy, even in Costa's coffee bar at the front of the hospital.

Received text to tell me about an appointment. No letter or email etc so had to call them to find out more information. Got there and parking poorly marked. The multi storey is ridiculously tight on the ramps between floors with very heavy marking from car scrapes on the walls and barriers. Asked at reception where to go and they didn't know from the text! (Well nor did I). Was sent to wrong place who sent me to the wrong place and then very close to the right place. Seen on time so can't fault then in that way but the Dr was terrible. Disagreed with the surgeon who sent me to them after looking at me for 10 seconds. Toilets were not great and if you look at the picture they were overdue a check by 80 minutes!! So guessing they check hourly so not checked for nearly 2.5 hours! I'm a hospital!! Worst place I've ever been

This is the worst hospital cafe I have been in. Had a breakfast which was cold, expensive and served on a small plate so only the smallest scoop of beans or tinned tomatoes will fit on plate without spilling off. Staff more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving.

Arrived early so needed to sit somewhere - have a drink and check my email. You can sit here comfortably and away from the crowds - coffee machine was down, so I had tea - which was fine. Good wifi connection. Most of the food on offer seemed a bit carbie! Except of course for the fruit.I would go back if I had time on my hands - and if I had to be at this hospital.

The staff restaurant can cater for gluten free (and it’s good food, too) - but it’s open for two hours a day. Your options outside of those times are two varieties of disgusting Bol salad, crisps, brownies or protein bars. You’d fare better in a service station. There’s a Sainsburys over the road that sometimes has gf wraps (but be quick because they sell out because the gf offering at the hospital is pathetic)So if you’re here for the long haul (eg holding vigil in the ICU) bring food or you won’t get to eat.

My elderly mother in law (nearly 90) had to wait in A & E in a wheelchair with what was found to be a fractured pelvis after WE had to take her in as we waited OVER 4 hours for an ambulance that FAILED to turn up, terrible wait times for an elderly person who was in pain yet repeated requests for pain relief for her fell on deaf ears. Bearing in mind I am from a healthcare background and therefore KNOW how stretched they are and this is still unacceptable

As another reviewer has pointed out, there are actually two places in the hospital where you can grab a snack. The one close to the main entrance is the busiest and the noise levels are just too high for me. This place is run by volunteers and is okay for a quick cuppa, but keep walking towards the lifts down the main corridor and you'll see a sign for another eating place, which is much quieter. I originally thought this was solely for use by the hospital staff but visitors to the hospital are welcome too. The coffee is better and there is a small choice of snacks and other drinks. But, most importantly, it offers a quieter environment away from the crowds milling around at the entrance. This isn't the kind of place that you're going to visit unless you have business at the hospital, but it is worth knowing about should you need to be there at any time.

There's two places to eat in the hospital. There's a main buffet restaurant away from the entrance deeper into the building and a small cafe near the entrance. I enjoyed a fresh sandwich and pot of tea in the cafe on this visit. The prices are not too bad. The service is always very good considering they're always under constant pressure in a busy environment. There are vending machines with fresh food too. The shop selling news papers, confectionary, crisps & general goods is near the phlebotomy dept.

Have only ever visited the coffee shop and in my opinion it is very over priced. The sandwiches are pre package and cost around £4 but are nothing special. The cakes when fresh are very tasty particularly the scones. Some of the staff come across as short, not the ideal impression to be giving out.

Why can't The Lister hospital get a costa coffee franchise instead of the appalling tea and coffee that is served along with the sandwiches and pastries . I feel it devalues the Costa brand when coffee like this is given to the general public. I really don't like to complain and I know this is not down to the hard working staff. This hospital is in desperate need of a decent coffee shop where family's can sit for a bit of time whist waiting for loved ones.

Awful in almost every respect.Sign saying to wait here to be seated but no staff. Interminable wait for service and at one point everyone in the restaurant had finished eating but nobody was clearing tables. Several people appeared to receive the wrong order or returned theirs for unknown reasons. Bland, microwaved food and very small portions. No sign of the steaks advertised outside! There have to be better places than this to eat in Stevenage.

Food is awful. The oven they use to cook the fridge stuff always leaves one side of the bread crunchy. Like rock crunchy
