Dinner was different class - stupendous food. Highly recommend the shin of beef with a caramelised parsnip puree and roast vegetable jus

I cannot praise the lion Quays Waterside restaurant enough!! My sister, mum and myself have dietary allergies and are always apprehensive when eating out. Last year we went their twice and on both occasions the chefs went above and beyond to make sure we could have what we wanted and enjoy it as well. The waitresses and waiters were also attentive and professional. Lion Quays are therefore always our go to for a lovely meal. We have also had spa treatments at the country club. Last time we went Colette, Laura and Beth looked after us and made each of us feel special. Sarah the manager was brilliant in booking our treatments and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend the spa county club and the treatments they offer.

My husband and I were staying in a lodge nearby and decided to pop in for coffee and a cake. My cappuccino coffee was made with decaf coffee and alpro coconut milk a combination I drink regularly. It came and it had no head on at all. I took a sip and it scalded my mouth, so I left it for 10 minutes. My husband said his wasn't great either. I gave it a stir and there were lots of floaters, so I left it. The barista? was pleasant, but clearly had no idea how to make coffees. Card only, which was off putting too. It was a shame because the place was clean and pleasant. The bought in cakes were fine and they had a vegan gluten free option

We stayed at the Lion Quays hotel for a week with our 3 generation family; eleven of us from seniors through to two teenagers. It was all we had hoped and more! This was the anchor week of a 3 week family vacation from Canada, and included us hosting a family reunion with our English cousins in the Conservatory (35 in all for that afternoon and evening event). The Conservatory with access to the patios, docks and green space was the perfect setting for a relaxed extended family gathering. The buffet meal was a delicious, no fuss part of the celebration. Gluten free and vegan options were included as requested, and the family gave them a thumbs up rating. All week long the Lion Quays exceeded our expectations in every way. Rooms opening onto the canal added to the ambiance. The restaurant staff offered to set up a breakfast table for all eleven of us in a quiet nook, so that our family members could come for breakfast when they were ready, and have a spot at the family table. That was a lovely way to start every day, and accomodated our varying schedules. Food was always very good, be it breakfast, pizza on the terrace or a full Sunday meal. All the staff provided excellent service, but some special mentions: One of the staff, Mathew, tried everything he could think of in an effort to get our memory stick of photos to play on the Conservatory TV. (our formatting error, not the TV). Ella Revell, events manager helped us arrange the accomodations and Conservatory event months ahead of time, over several phone calls from Canada. She covered off every detail cheerfully and competently. Right from the minute we arrived, every detail was as discussed. We Definitely recommend the Lion Quays hotel and restaurant for a relaxing family holiday or for a special celebration. Wishing we could come back again. :)

We spent 3 days at this hotel on a leisure break. The staff were amicable and helpful and the hotel was immaculate. The breakfasts and evening meals were good. a wide variety and well-presented. The Spa has extensive facilities and is well worth a visit.

I stayed here with my mum en route to pick up my new puppy and we weee pleasantly surprised. The hotel room is basic and can do with some sprucing up for sure but the facilities and the staff are great. I thought the spa was fantastic and the fact there is no extra cost for such a great spa is very unusual. You get access to the spa upon arrival and up to 4pm on day of departure so it’s great! The restaurant was very busy and very understaffed but enjoyable and cosy. I think this hotel gets quite bad reviews and if you take it for what it is it’s really got some great qualities - especially for the price point!

Twin beds on arrival (had booked a double) had booked a snuggle and snooze with breakfast in bed and access/disabled room given. Assured bottle of fizz in room as booked directly. No fizz. Told to go bar for a drink and was going to be sorted out. Back to room which was still as it was. Still no fizz and twin beds again. Beers warm. No refresh to room at all. Very disappointed if I could find somewhere else at short notice would definitely do so. Extremely disappointed and a waste of over £150 for one night. Still no fizz in room. Makes out it’s four star!!!! No chance! Had better in premier inn or Travelodge only bonus is the SmartTV

Was given an afternoon tea gift voucher and went here to spend it. We were told to sit anywhere and someone would be with us shortly. A waitress came and brushed crumbs off the table but didn't disinfect it and it was dirty and sticky. She said she would be back with the afternoon tea platter and that was the last we saw of her, 35 minutes past and I asked at the bar what was happening with our tea, they had obviously forgotten about us but didn't apologise. When we did eventually get served the food was of good quality and the cakes were varied and nicely decorated. There was a wedding on at the same time so I'm guessing the staff were run off their feet.

Over priced for really poor quality meal and service. The gammon was over cooked. There was no walnuts with the goats cheese.. and with that you only got 1 slice of goats cheese.

Genuinely terrible pizzas. Cheap ingrediants with them being undercooked so the middle of the base tasted like cheap bread. Service hit and miss. Rest of meal overpriced and small portions. Nice for a drink outside. Avoid.

Stayed the night on March 23rd. My room was below standard for what I expect from a 4 * hotel. The whole place was tired and scruffy and in need of a good clean. The curtains were mildewed, the patio was filthy, the bathroom was downright disgusting. The bed linen was on inside out. No fridge or extractor fan in the bathroom.

Food was awesome and atmosphere very pleasant. The nachos were to die for (I know they are only nachos, but we have eaten so many bad nachos 🤦). The mains we large and very tasty, we were full and happy when we left. Would recommend this restaurant and feel it was very good value for money .

Dirty teacups, wallpaper hanging off the wall, headboard disgraceful. Hotel not fit for purpose. No accountability from hotel staff. You have been warned.

My husband and I stayed here for his 40th birthday celebration (11-12th Feb). We stayed on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis, we bought a thermal spa package and we each had a treatment. Spa & Pool Facilities Pool was extremely cold Steam room not available Jacuzzi closed after 15mins of arrival (did not re-open in time for us to use) Facial - felt rushed, therapist was heavy handed (not relaxing) and during scalp massage it seemed like the therapist was distracted as hand movements were sporadic and intermittent. I've had many facials before so knew this wasn't right! Hotel Room We paid for a double room. As I have a disability we were allocated the only accessible room they have. We walked in to find twin beds with their own duvets pushed together. Not a double room at all. The wetroom was not set up properly. There was no seat for the shower so I had to sit on the floor. The cleanliness of the floor was poor (grime & hairs). Evening meal Overall very good, only issue was the fillet steak was a little chewy. As we're not a couple who like to create a scene and we find writing our complaints down we sent an email (which the hotel website indicates you can) to the hotel manager on the same evening that we departed the hotel. There was back and forth communication which ended abruptly. I requested some monetary compensation. The response I received was as we hadn't complained in person they would not give us monetary compensation (they would if we'd complained at the time). They offered a discounted rate, upgraded room (which couldn't happen as they only have 1 accessible room) and 1/2 day spa access. This all means they expect us to spend more money with them (benefitting them). I pointed out that whether we complained at the time or we sent them an email the complaints are still valid and the same form of compensation should be offered. Being given monetary compensation allows us, the customer, to decide whether we would want to return not being made to return in order to compensate us for the poor experience we've already had. The manager ceased communication at this point. Overall poor customer service!

Very satisfied with our stay, helpfull and obliging staff. Restaurant is fine although it was the most expensive piece of steak I've ever bought and I'd have been just as happy with a burger. The spa is good, pool is nice but the changing room floor is slippy so watch out! The Mumbai Maska is definitely worth a visit if you like curry. Well presented food in a well presented restaurant. We would make a return visit.

We booked a table for 7pm and were seated. We ordered some drinks and a starter however we were able to eat the starters before our drinks made it to us we waited nearly 40 minutes for drinks. We asked a passing waiter to see where they were who told us it wasn't his job and to ask a different waiter. Our empty starter plates were left on our table for excessively long obviously then slowing down our mains (although it did mean we had drinks for the main). There were staff walking the floor who didn't know where they were going stopping at a number of tables before getting waved at by customers who could recognise their order. The food for a restaurant attached to a 4* hotel was average it was edible but I couldn't rave about it. Some staff were flying around working their hardest however others were clearly not walking past tables that needed clearing and leaving empty handed and generally it was disorganised. In summary the food was OK but the service really let it down.

Had a lovely time in the restaurant the food was nice, but room for improvement . I would like to thank Charlotte and Jo for been absolute stars whilst we where there you girls are fantastic.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were amazing. We had the meal package so we ate at the waterside restaurant. The restaurant was lovely and got very busy, although it was busy service from are waitress was very good and she made sure she stopped and chatted to us and made sure we were happy with everything.We were very lucky to have the same waitress every evening and couldn't believe it when we asked her a question about breakfast times and she explained that she was new and that she would have to ask someone. We didn't realise she was new and was very shocked as she was absolutely brilliant! So a huge well done to Sarah who done absolutely amazing all weekend and made us enjoy are time away a little more. We have already planning are next trip here and can't wait to come back.

Disappointed. Phoned up yesterday to book a table outside for drinks. Told over the phone that they don’t take bookings for outside. Fair enough. Turned up today to sit at one of the empty tables but was told we couldn’t have one as we hadn’t booked. Really? Who’s fault is that. Was told we could talk to the manager though but decided not to as we had already wasted our time. Went somewhere lease local and had a lovely welcome. This is not our only negative experience in this place so crossing it off our list.

We stayed at this hotel on a deal from Off Peak Luxury and cannot fault it for what we paid, it was amazing value. We had a lovely room overlooking the Llangollen canal, although the bathroom was very small and room was a bit tired looking we still enjoyed our stay. We had great food and the spa and pool are amazing. Overall it was value for money, although the rooms and breakfast was a bit of a let down

I was looking forward to sharing my first afternoon tea with my wife bought for us by my sister for our last year birthday presents delayed due to Covid. We had a voucher for an afternoon tea with a glass of champagne which did not start well as the barman offered to get us both a glass of Prosecco as that was their Champagne! After my wife pointed out that the voucher was for CHAMPAGNE and as it had been bought as a gift then that is what was paid for, the barman returned with two glasses of Laurent Perrier Rose together with the bottle to show us. However, he then went on to say that this was left over from the weekend (four days earlier) but was perfectly fine as he had tasted it to make sure! Unfortunately, as with any sparkling wine that has been open for more than a few hours, it soon lost its fizz and the second half of the glass was undrinkable.One of the plates brought to the table had to be sent back as it was dirty and the mug containing one of the coffees was chipped but those details may not have been worth mentioning had the actual food been worthy of the £50 cost.Tragically, the quality of the food brought to the table was the worst selection of sandwiches and cakes that my wife has ever been served as an afternoon tea. The sandwiches were few and sparsely filled; there was no other savoury option (quiche, vol-o-vents, sausage rolls etc.) and the cakes were out of a packet and totally unappetising. The only acceptable part of the entire tea were the scones which were quite nice despite also being shop bought.All in all, the whole experience was awful and would have resulted in us asking for our money back had we paid for this.We did receive a half-hearted apology from the barman who confirmed he would feed this back to the chef but did not seem to know what else to say. Safe to say, we will not be returning and will be actively discouraging friends and family from visiting also.

This hotel is marketed as luxury - it certainly isn’t. We booked a feature terrace room and really expected something special. However the room was small, and the terrace was dirty - bird droppings on the chairs and floor, and it needed a good sweep. A wrought iron separation between the next door terraces, and the guy in the next room terrace was smoking. He was only a metre away from us so it was very unpleasant. The bathroom was very, very small, the tiles in the shower were cracked and the door needed a good coat of paint. There are no public areas in the hotel so you are confined to your, small, room if it’s raining. The restaurant is exactly like a Wheatsheaf (Premier Inn type), except the prices are higher and the menu is limited. The only bright side about this hotel is the staff. All very friendly, helpful and efficient.

My comments refer to the Waterside Restaurant at Lion Quays, and not for the actual hotel or spa as those parts of the resort were still closed because of the covid lockdown.We booked a table in the restaurant (outside patio area) for 5 people for 7.30pm over the recent May bank holiday weekend. We moored our canal boat at the hotel quay at around 5pm and arranged with the waitress to arrive at our table at 7pm for pre-dinner cocktails. It might not be the responsibility of the hotel, but the moorings are very cluttered with lots of debris in the water eg branches, logs, and just general clutter. It could certainly do with a tidy up.We arrived at our outside table at 7pm and ordered a round of drinks including 3 x Porn Star Martinis and then our food which was all fairly straightforward. About 20-25 mins later our FOOD arrived, but still no drinks, we said we expected our drinks first. When the drinks came out a few minutes later, we queried the ingredients of the Porn Stars as they just didn't taste right or nice. The waitress went away to check with the bar staff and came back saying that they didn't have any passion fruit puree so they decided to use orange juice. We asked why they hadn't checked with us first, but she didn't know and then walked away, leaving us with the Porn Stars that weren't Porn Stars. We also had to chase up 2 missing side orders of onion rings. She came back shortly and offered to take a new drinks order. We ordered a bottle of English red wine along with a few soft drinks. We also gave her back the undrunk glasses of Porn Star. A few minutes later, a man who looked like the restaurant manager then came out to us saying they couldn't do the red wine as the "restaurant is in England and the wine is English", we all looked at each other expecting to hear the punchline or a further explanation but there wasn't one forthcoming. We laughed and said to each other that it can’t be Brexit related as it’s an English wine but didn’t bother to question it further as he had already walked away with an order for a glass of French wine instead. The sides of onion rings finally arrived, they had been freshly cooked but were now quite late through the meal. After all these problems, we decided not to order dessert or any further drinks and returned to our canal boat via the local Shell petrol station where we picked up some nibbles and a very nice bottle of red wine. The restaurant didn’t charge us for the Porn Stars and the rest of the food was OK but the whole experience just seemed very disorganised and left us wanting to get back to our boat ASAP. A family member had initially recommended Lion Quays to me and said their bar was ‘amazing’ but based on my recent experience and judging by some of the other reviews on TripAdvisor, it certainly seems like they have gone downhill. I’m hoping the restaurant will try harder and regain its good reputation.

I’m absolutely appalled by the travesty that they call the Lion Quays, my girlfriends and I decided to come out for a post lockdown celebration and what a disappointment! We orders cocktails that they failed to tell us were £10 each and the majority of it was just ice! Oh and it gets worse we ordered desserts and it came with a big black hair in! 6th December at Waterfront Restaurant- slow disappointing service at restaurant - booked ahead put us on a table for 2 but there was 3 of us - no room when the Sunday platter was put on our table had to ask for it to be moved do we could eat our lunch - lunch was not hit until we put the gravy on the food -waited 30 minutes for dessert that had been pre ordered 1.1/2 hour before in the end we had ask for it- our table seemed to be not on any particular staff member area to be looked after- extremely disappointing experience especially when it was for my partners 50th birthday

Lovely hotel clean and tidy well lite at night and a quiet surrounding we enjoyed the canal boats and would definitely stay again

Fabulous stay fantastic staff from reception to waiting staff nothing to much trouble amazing breakfast. Evening meals a bit pricy.

Dinner was fine. Breakfast-terrible. Waited 15 minutes for coffee that came in mugs with coffee splattered down the sides. Another 15 minutes to order food. Toast eventually came after 10 minutes. Two rounds of toast on a tiny plate, one piece hardly toasted - no other plates. No marmalade etc. No cutlery. After another wait found someone to ask for cutlery. Another 30 minutes food arrived - minus my fruit salad.Also, the restaurant was NOT clean. Food crumbs down the skirting boards (we were in the conservatory) and the chairs in the bar area were very stained. Dd not feel safe there.For a "luxury" hotel this was certainly not up to standard.

Food was very good, but service was terrible. Will not be going back. Had to wait 50 minutes to receive our main course and that was after asking.

Spent a 3-day short break here on bed, breakfast, and evening meal basis. The room was very nice with a small terrace with a table and 2 chairs where you could sit out and watch the barges go by. The food in the restaurant was of a good standard and an adequate choice. The spa complex is excellent but certain parts were not open due to the present virus restrictions. I would definitely return to this hotel and can recommend it.

Really enjoyed our visit this evening. Was very busy but the service was good , efficient and very attentive. We ordered a negroni which wasn’t on the menu but the barman stepped up and delivered. Bravo. Food was very good. Had a 7 year old with us and she was well catered for. Very enjoyable evening with a good wine on top. Thanks a lot.

We booked to have afternoon tea was disappointed with weather but the riverside restaurant soon cheered us up with lovely prompt service .We had a lovely afternoon tea it even had small quiches which were delicious The different cakes were amazing We couldn’t eat everything so they kindly boxed it up for us to take home It was lovely and reassuring that all cutlery were in sealed plastic packets and everyone one had masks on or visors and tables were all distanced

I have very mixed reviews on Lyon quays as my then boyfriend brought me here for my 33rd birthday and we had the most amazing time. Lovely evening meal fantastic room service breakfast and excellent spa and treatments. We loved the place so much we came back to a wedding open day and a few weeks later we booked our wedding the communication was fantastic and the planning was all going fab and then when we paid for our Wedding i felt as though we were not kept up to date with much and told we would have a meeting with our wedding planner the day before the wedding so at this point I’m panicking hopping everything is going to be ok not how a bride wants to feel in the lead up to her wedding.we arrived the day before our wedding the meeting went fine which I was happy about but it wasn’t with whom I expected I’d never met these people before.Then me and my husband had booked separate rooms the night before the wedding him staying with his best man and me staying with my maid of honour. We went to get ready for a pre wedding night family meal and my husband had to get maintenance in as his room was flooding and stunk of drains we went for our meal and was told it was sorted on his arrival back to the room the smell was worse and all the suits were In there for the wedding.they said they had no other room to move him to then after 40 minutes of us refusing to stay in the room he was finally given another room which had someone’s luggage in who was due to arrive so now they had no room unless they went in the smelly drain one !!!Our wedding was a lovely day and evening and our guests loved the place. Nobody from the hotel has contacted us for feedback from our wedding or asked if everything went ok we’ve been married a year on Monday and I feel my love for the place isn’t the same after the lack of communication after payment and the wedding as the communication just didn’t exist !!!

Had a fabulous meal here, went as part of my mums 70th celebrations. A Spa Package. There was 5 of us. The hotel and rooms were amazing, plenty of room, we had champagne and muffins waiting for us. We had a great time in the spa, used all the facilities. The bar is very well stocked and the prices are reasonable considering it is a hotel. The restaurant was great, the menu caters for everyone we all had different mains and the were spectacular. I will let you see for yourself. The waiting staff were very attentive and work long shifts. Some of the staff from the evening were serving breakfast- which as you may guess was also top notch.I have been to a few places but the cuisine here was a cut above. We will visit again.

Welcoming staff on arrival and pleased with the room. The robes and towels in the room were great for exfoliating your skin as they were so hard. The mattress was very comfortable however the pillow put you in the need of a full head and neck massage the following day to recover, on our way to the spa the next morning we asked the hotel reception if they could change our pillows but I presume that they didn’t have any available as nobody came back to us. The spa staff were superb with no complaints at all, my treatment (full body massage for one hour) was superb, however my wife’s was cut short for some reason and she only received 45 minutes therefore wasn’t very impressed. We dined in the restaurant both nights and to be fair the food was nice once it finally arrived! The staff were very good and apologetic however the wait was ridiculous and once it did arrive on three occasions there was a mixup and you were served the wrong order or it was duplicated with your starter. Overall a very disappointing weekend for a lot of money spent. Great staff let down by a system that clearly does not work.

Hotel ubicado al lado del canal, en una zona ajardinada con diferentes edificios. El primer edificio es un Spa con una gran variedad de tratamientos, otro edificio es el hotel y al lado del hotel está la zona de restauración. El trato del personal es excepcional , el restaurante prácticamente siempre está completo, en definitiva un lugar para relajarse y disfrutar de la naturaleza.Esta es nuestra tercera estancia y debo de reconocer que nos hemos convertido en adictos a este establecimiento.Muy recomendables los paseos por el canal, cuando no llueve.

Stayed at this hotel last week on a romantic lazy break package and was so impressed with everything,it was really good value for money Spent the afternoon relaxing in the spa and then we were checked in to our room by a lovely receptionist called Hannah who couldn't do enough to help us and is a credit to the resort.Included in our package was a three course evening meal, we were very impressed with the choice and quality of the food,We dine often and can honestly say this was the best meal we have had in a long time,and our waitress Kimberley added to this lovely experience We will definitely be returning, well done Lion Quays
