Lingo in City of London, Westminster

Food might be good but one staff member is beyond rude and frankly racist (she has a mole on her face so is hard to miss). Was rudely told to ‘move from the door as I’m not a bouncer’ even though I was waiting for an order in the designated area for takeaways. Needless to say I won’t be returning.

A small restaurant with two tables outside, which is where we sat. Had chicken dumpling soup to start and then seafood ramen. Very tasty indeed. Quality and quantity of food very good. Price relative for area

Nous sommes tombé sur ce restaurant un peu par hasard et nous n’avons vraiment pas été déçus. C’était excellent ! Merci beaucoup pour l’accueil.

Arrived at 620pm for my 630pm booking, we were shown to the basement table of which I had no issues with. We were given a table right by the toilet, I then asked the waitress could we possibly sit at the end table, slight away from the toilet, she replied, no it was reserved. I didn't think of it much as it could well be the case. Sat down, another waiter came, no greetings, he just put down 3 very dirty menu on our table then off he went back upstairs. We all looked at each other thought, its going to be an interesting dinner. I wipe cleaned the menu and obviously none of them have been cleaned for a while, see picture uploaded. The same waiter returned to take our order and I mentioned the dirty menu and shown the dirty wipes, no apologies he just laughed it off.....I made no further remarks, and just crack on with our order. We ordered a few starters to share and main each and I specifically asked for the main to be served after we finish the starters, thought reasonable request right? Hell no, all our dishes came at once....once again my husband and I just looked at each other. Food was very mediocre, not worth raving about. And wait for the best part, the waiter came to clear up our plates with a tray, and he signalled us to put our plates onto his tray...we sat down at 625pm and by 730pm we couldn't wait to get out from this restaurant. And guess what the entire time we were the only table in the basement. Poor hygiene, poor service, there are plenty plenty Japanese restaurants to choose in the West End Soho area,and can give you a better dinning experience, do me a favour you can give this one a miss!

We ran into this little place by mistake but it turned out to be a great little Japanese restaurant. The fish was fresh and by London standard this is not that expensive. The tempura was done well but the udon was a bit too salty. Otherwise, the dinner was great.

Nice, small, quiet original Japanese restaurant for a nice variety of food. Recommend it for anyone who enjoys sushi, sashimi and all the variety. My choice, the seaweed salad with sushi and Kirin.

Small and cosy, only 6 covers upstairs and a few downstairs, but very friendly and inviting. Menu superb and a good range of basics as well as specials.

Came here for a pre-party drink and snack with my colleague last night. Very small, only four or five tables but I love that vibe! Beautiful authentic food. We had a salmon hand roll and soft shell crab sushi. Very very enjoyable. This with two asahi’s was near £40 which is steep but for the food and venue, I would come back here again. They had lots of choice on the menu, so lots to try out!

My husband and I visited Nala for the first time two weeks ago. We found everything delicious, especially the sushi and the prawn gyoza. We tried to come back last week, but the place was full! Today, we were lucky and get one of the 7 tables in the restaurant. We ordered the prawn tempura, the prawn tempura roll, the prawn gyoza and the nigiri mix. All as delicious as before. This place is a gem. Well worth the visit.

Loved this restaurant. The food is authentically Japanese and the atmosphere is really friendly. Visited three times out of out four days in London because it was so good. Feels like a really family run diner and just like something you'd experience in Japan. The staff put up with my awful Japanese and we had a lovely conversation about the sake and the fact that we should visit Nigata next time we go to Japan for the best sake! Came across this place while on the walk and I'm so happy that we came in. Small yet cosy place with friendly and polite staff. Food also delicious that makes me want to come back again.

We passed by on Monday and it was packed. Last night of freedom ahead of lockdown, we decided to go there. We managed to get a table, it was fully booked but there was an hour window so we sat and the host was very friendly and gave us the menu. So many dishes to choose from! Everything came quickly and it was super fresh! Best sushi I have ever had! We chose: avocado maki (so fresh), wakame salad; vegetable gyoza ( so tasty and soft); octopus balls and beef don. Looking forward for the lockdown to end to go back! Highly recommended!

London felt a bit odd with people around. This little restaurant was welcoming and felt very safe. Delicious fresh fish and noodles.

Nos sentamos en solo 1 de las 2 mesas que estaban fuera del pequeño restaurante pintoresco. Antes de que nos sirvieran, nos leyeron la temperatura y nos dieron toallitas con alcohol. Había una buena selección de sushi y comida tradicional japonesa, incluidas cajas bento. Pedí el pollo teridón y mi novia pidió el tofu teridón, y pedimos un lado de tempura de verduras (no hay una mala selección de opciones vegetarianas). Las raciones eran bastante abundantes y sabrosas y nos sorprendió que nos dieran una sopa de miso y una ensalada cada una. ¡Más un par de rodajas de naranja después de la comida! Definitivamente estaremos visitando aquí nuevamente. La factura llegó a 38, que incluía 12. 5% de cargo por servicio (3 redes).

Este restaurante no está ubicado en calles concurridas, pero como los cocineros son japoneses, su comida sabe muy localmente japonesa. Hay muchas opciones de comida, incluyendo ramen y udon, brochetas y vino como el sake. El precio es de rango medio pero no es caro. Fue una tarde tranquila cuando visité y fue una experiencia agradable.

Muy mal servicio. Éramos dos, pedimos un entrante para compartir, un plato principal cada uno con una sopa de miso, dos copas de vino para mí y cerveza para mi amigo y luego té. Trajeron la factura sin solicitud cuando ni siquiera me terminé la comida. Luego trajeron la cuenta cuando mi amiga todavía tenía la mitad de su cerveza. Luego pedimos té porque los postres del menú no estaban disponibles. Después de que apenas terminamos el té, trajeron la cuenta y dijeron que estaban cerrando. Sin embargo, no se lo dijeron a las personas en otras mesas. Tres mesas estaban vacías. Did not read the reviews until I decided to try this small independence establishment. I choose the bento box meal during after lunch hours on a weekday. Nice well presented food, polite and friendly staff. The meal is well portioned and traditional, if you like traditional japanese sushi/sashimi. Price is what you pay for, neither cheap or expensive but happily pay for both food and atmosphere. Small place but has been here for many years. I will definitely come back!

Fresh fish well prepared with a generous portion in the lunchtime sets. Punctual service. Feels very much like the sort of small restaurant you can find on street corners in Tokyo or Kyoto.

Glad we never read any of the reviews on here before we went! Stunned by the previous reviews! The food was absolutely exceptional. It's not cheap but then it's not that expensive either! We had edamame to start, with another dish with seaweed to start(Sorry forgotten the name). The edamame is with seal salt and nice sized portion for two. The seaweed dish was superb. Had a mixed sushi for main course between us and every one was a delight. Then had the mixed tempura, with veg, prawn and fish. Just superb.The service was so polite and nice, I'm really surprised to read previous reviews. We were never rushed at all. Maybe new owners.Trust us , we will absolutely be back. Lovely little place with a handful of tables. Really felt like we were back in Japan.

Order one plate at the time. I ordered 3 dishes in one go and slam bam the small table was filled with all the bowls. Not very appealing, though the food was good, without being a spectacular Ramen.

Hemos comido aquí varias veces. La comida es buena. Pero el sábado pasado, apenas terminamos de comer, nos presentaron la factura de inmediato, aunque no la habíamos pedido. Nos dijeron que otros clientes estaban esperando. No nos dieron la oportunidad de pedir más comida, que fue decepcionante y muy desagradable. Parece que el personal está más preocupado por recolectar dinero que por clientes satisfechos, lo que es una pena. Probablemente no volveremos ni lo recomendaremos a nuestros amigos.

Nous sommes tombés sur ce petit restaurant par hasard c'est notre fille qui voulais manger japonnais et quelle bonne surprise il n'y a pas que des sushis dans les restaurants japonnais. Le personnel est très serviable il nous a expliqué tous les mets que nous avons commandé. Les plats étaient copieux et excellents avec des produits de qualité et frais nous y retournerons.

We came here starving for a late dinner. It was close to 10:00pm but they welcomed us warmly. We placed our orders and the service was fairly quick. They didn’t rush us at all. They have a wide range of options - our group got kimchi pancakes, bibimbamp, ramen and bento box. The food was good and we were happy with our hearty meal after a long day! The main floor is pretty tight on space but they have a few tables outside and additional seating in the basement. We'd recommend you try it.

We had gyozas and some rolls as starters. Then we try the chicken teriyaki/beef roll. It was delicious, and in a very quiet mood we ate outside. We really enjoyed it!

Muy cuidado, el servicio muy bueno y rápido. Gyozas súper ricas, el sushi bastante bueno, pollo al curry genial...El precio un pelin elevado (pero nada desproporcionado). Merece la pena ya que se aleja de los típicos locales en Picadilly de comida “de batalla”. Volvería sin duda.

We went there on a saturday evening about 8pm. Luckily we got a table for two without reservation. All other tables were occupied. Sashimi were fresh. Udon noodle soup delicious. Other dishes tasty too. Service was quick a d friendly. Reasonable price!

Been here twice. Friendly and fast service. Food is good but main dishes could be much better given the prices they ask. I guess this is due to their prime-location. Sushi and some of their veggie starters definitely good quality.

This is our new "go to" sushi place in Central London. Fresh and varied selection, great flavours and not too expensive for the quality you get. We'd prefer more choice in the drinks menu.

Passed lingo last week with my boyfriend and we decided to give it a go, we were in kind of a hurry but to our delight the food arrived quickly and still tasted really good! I was also surprised at how cheap it was here compared to others, for 2 mains (tonkatsu donburi and chicken katsu curry both came with miso soup) and a coke we paid £24 (also includes 12% service charge) which is not too bad especially with the portion that came with it. Overall we were quite happy with our visit and the staff were really nice!

We visited there last week but had experience bad customer service. Food took time and was tasteless. Just disappointed. I don't recommend to visit.

Salimos de la Real Academia de la tarde, cansados y hambrientos. Entorno a encontrar algún sitio para comer, que no era una trampa para turistas, Piccadilly Circus, nos encontramos con este pequeño (pero hay abajo, así como la 4 / 5 mesas arriba) y acogedor restaurante japonés. No elija las especialidades coreanas pero pegados a Favoritos japonés (tofu agedashi edamame, delicioso! ) seguido de salmón y pollo donburi (que venía con un tazón de sopa de miso). Justo lo que necesitaba! Muy razonable para esa parte de la ciudad. Estoy seguro de que volveré.

Been here before and this place never dissapoints me..xx I love Japanese food and their menu selection is awesome. My favourite is the Agedashi tofu and the chicken teriyaki bento which is served with miso soup, pickled salad and sushi rolls..xxIt was lunch hours and we were lucky to get a sitting. The decor is cosy and the waitress very pleasant and hospitable. Very prompt service and the food portion is worth the value of what we paid for. The menu had a variety and well thought through description of dishes.Its a good 5 mins walk from the Piccadilly Circus Underground station..very Japanese/Korean outdoor decor with lanterns on display..xxOverall worth a visit. Good proper Japanese food.

Tucked away off Golden Square, Lingo has a wide and varied menu at competitive prices. Smartly decorated, Lingo offers a great option amongst faceless chains nearby. Takeaway option too!

We were looking around for a restaurant to have dinner and we chanced upon Lingo. The restaurant looks cosy but it quite small, we decided to have a try - and it proved to be a good decision !A group of Japanese ladies was having dinner when we came in - which is always a good sign. After all, say, a French restaurant where French people actually go is more likely to be good than one where they don't go !The food and service at Lingo are good. The food is Japanese and Korean and it gives full satisfaction. Special recommendations : the Unaju Don and the Seafood Pancake (dip it in the sauce, even better), delicious ! The seaweed salad is equally very good.

Just beside Piccadilly Circus but far less crowded than the latter's restaurants, this little spot was a lovely find for lunch! The menu is extensive and varied (also includes Korean options) and the food ranged from decent to great - the udon broth was very tasty, not too salty, and the tempura was well-battered, crisp and fresh. Prices are reasonable considering the central location and the service was fast and polite. Would return if in the area again!

stumbled upon this small eaterie after wandering around china town not sure what we wanted to eat. What a lovely find quite basis very small place with just a few tables on street level and downstairs. Food however was lovely eel nigiri yum and katsu curry big enough for two. Tried to visit again 2 days later but could not find unfortunately. Found receipt hence writing this and have made note of location should I visit London in the future will make sure to visit.

Went for dinner with relative. It's quaint and traditional. The food is tasty, the miso soup was really excellentWould definitely go back. Prices are reasonable, but did not have any alcoholic drinks, these are allegedly expensive in central London

Very large food choice if you stay in, not only Japanese (super good bibimbap for example), but not many tables so come early (seating downstairs available, but not so charming). Food is generally very good, staff very nice, prices really reasonable. We often take away, the menu here is much simpler but very good options too. It is a simple place, there are many other trendy Japanese in Soho but usually more expensive too, so Lingo is a really good option.

I come often to this place when I visit London for business. A quick lunch, good food, nice people and reasonable prices.

We wanted to have a Japanese lunch and found this amazing little restaurant close to Piccadilly Circus.We had a glass of wine and an Asahi beer.We had a mixture of starters and some main courses and good service and tasty food.Recommendable.

Lovely litte find only just off the beaten track. At 7.15pm where more obvious places were rammed Lingo had some free tables so we could sit on comfort (not noisey) and be looked after by the very attentive staff and capable chef. Plenty to choose from. Amo gst our choices especially noteworthy were the spinach in sesame paste (simple, delicious) and the salmon teriyaki don. The hot saki warmed us this very cold evening. Served quickly so we were in time for our show 8.30). £39 for two.

Tried it for lunch: 10 piece sushi set, 2 skewers of yakitori a miso soup and green tea. £33 inc service. Food tasted fine, fresh and well prepared but not exceptional. Surrounded by places that are more exciting and value for money I'm afraid.

Even though we didn't have a booking on a busy Friday night we were welcomed in, staff were helpful & attentive.The food was all brought over at the right time, first the sushi which was fresh and tasty.Then our other starters. We were too busy eating all the yummy food hence the lack of photos! Do not be put off by the size of the restaurant, the food is incredible & you can also see the staff making the food. Can't wait to return again! Would give it 10 stars if I could!

We came across this tiny restaurant on a busy Friday night and luckily they had a free table which they quickly cleaned. We were starving and the food came quite quickly, but the complementary salad sufficed in the meantime. Food was really delicious - we had vegetable gyoza, tuna sushi rolls, beef don buri and a korean dish. The beef was particularly amazing, really tender and perfectly cooked. The little leaf shaped bowls were very pretty and the service was excellent. Amazingly reasonable prices for such a great location. Will definitely return.

Lingo is one of those place where you could sit in a cozy area watch the cook prepare your sushi and enjoy all this and a good meal at a very reasonable price in soho. I always come back when I feel like eating sushi. Just a couple of notes:- they tend to put a bit of wasabi between the fish and the rice in sushi. - the place downstairs can get a bit hot- in the summer they tend to put tables outside

We tried Lingo for our evening meal this last Friday after deciding on Japanese food. I had walked past this cute little restaurant earlier and thought we would give it a try. Good welcome and quickly seated with menus and ordered drinks. The menu is quite large and we didn't want a huge meal, so we settled for a bowl of miso soup each, and prawn and vegetable dumplings to start, which arrived quite quickly and were pronounced good. They were accompanied by a complimentary small salad which was a pleasant surprise. My partner chose an avocado and shrimp sushi roll which tasted quite nice, I had a pork Dom buri - a rice bowl dish, which was pleasant but way too much rice. We didn't try any deserts and called for the bill, which came with the customary 10% gratuity, which we paid and left. I think Lingo is quite a good place to get your Japanese fix but will need to visit again and try different selections before I can fully recommend.

Used to be our favourite sushi place in london for a couple of years until owners changed sometime this spring.The table setting, menu, pricing etc stayed the same but the quality of the fish changed dramativally overnight.Too bad. We have nothing against the staff which did their best to be as good as the previous group but whoever buys the fish thought the diners wouldn't notice the change.Sloppy thinking. You lost our bi weekly business. Had to find new places in london to replace our dear old Lingo (RIP) (found a few )

Originally we were planning to go to Ittenbari on Brewer Street but it looked shabby from the outside so we came here instead.It's a small, cute little place - I think it had extra tables downstairs too. There's lots on the menu to choose from, the prices are okay and the staff are so friendly. We shared two sushi rolls: a salmon one (delicious) and a crab one (average). Then we shared sashimi and then beef with steamed rice and a fried egg. After drinks the bill came to £50.. I guess not too bad for the centre of London.

Sushi not fresh. Taste gloppy. The best thing on the plate was the wasabi. Also the prawn gyoza was not fried. More like steamed and pretty poor. Chicken gyoza had no discernible chicken in it. Needless to say won't be returning. Service was also so good we got the bill before we asked for it!

This was our first visit to Lingo, we enjoyed the food very much well cooked and good quality, the salmon was lovely. Service good, food arrived quickly.

Food was so so and the portions were small and prices not cheap. Seafood was not fresh. Both the nearby "Ten Ten Tei" and "Taro" restaurants are much tastier and better value for money.

I really loved it!!!! The food quality is really good no complaints at all... Nice people too. Definitely I'll be back...

Went there at lunchtime with a friend and ordered ramen each. Ramen was fairly tasteless and average.Pretty sure the broth is made with seafood so should not say suitable for vegetarians on the menu.Then when settling up, was forced to pay the full 10% service charge, whether it is warranted or not.So to summarise, average food, misleading menu and they rip you off! Avoid

This was not a planned visit and we stumbled upon this place when looking for a Japanese restaurant. The staff was friendly, with a cosy setting, albeit a little bit crowded.We ordered spicy tuna maki rolls, which were delicious. The portions of the main were very large as well.Overall , a decent place to eat if one is on a budget.

i've been there with my bro who recommended me some of their fine dishes. it was quite fine to be honest with a very friendly staff and a nice spot to stay although it is quite small and kind of stuffed if it's crawded. after all we enjoyed the food and it was fun to try, i personally think it's not going to be my last visit.

Tried a lunch time takeaway a few weeks ago and felt a little let down by the portion sizes. Gave them another chance and it was even worse. £7 for Chicken Yakisoba. Dish half empty and with 2 tiny bits of chicken. Accompanying Miso Soup also half empty and had 2 tiny pieces of tofuBoth tasted OK but completely unacceptable.

My daughter and I ate there last week. We stumbled upon it by accident while looking for a restaurant. The service was good and the food was excellent. It was served hot.

イギリス人の友達から勧められたので、和食を食べ尽くしている美食家で料理好きの友人と行きました。かわいいお店でスタッフの方々はとても親切フレンドリーでいい感じです。が、大変残念ながら、このお寿司は最低です。セットで１８ポンド、見た目にもカラカラに乾いていました。私はサーモンだけいただきましたが魚臭くて、まだ某テイクアウトの店の方がましです。ラーメンに関しても一口スープを食べてやめました。ラーメンは仕方ないけれど、和食屋ならばせめてお寿司はまともなものを期待したいです。その他の前菜ものはおいしかったので、そういったものを注文するか、もしくはどんぶりものならおいしいのかもしれません。
