Poor choice and poor food. My chicken & ham pie with roasted veg was so dry I couldn't eat it. My husband's portion of squid was so small, it was not worth having. Plus, the chef's hiphop music was playing so loudly in the kitchen that we could hardly here the tasteful background music in the restaurant. The waiter was lovely and really did try to look after us well. We were staying in the Hall overnight but there was no inclination to eat there again because we would have struggled to choose something - it really is just basic pub grub that is not very good and it really should be so much better for such a lovely setting/hotel. The wine selection for rosé was astonishingly bad ( a lovely summer's day and there was a zinfandel and a very rough pinot grigio blush - please at least put a Provence/Pays d'Oc rosé on the list or at least a better quality PG blush!). I really hope they make some improvements because a lot of the problems are really quite basic.

We went as a party of 7 whilst staying for a wedding. The staff were lovely but the food was absolutely awful. There was no steak as they had run out. The vegan burger looked like something from Bird’s Eye and my friend refused to eat it understandably. My pasta was enormous and presented poorly and the chips looked like what was left in the pan. Biggest bug bear…..the 30% surcharge added to the bill. Turns out there is a disclaimer on the menu that this gets added but it’s so small we missed it. We won’t be returning!

Awful experience after driving over half an hour with a newborn and a toddler! A limited menu to begin with but we ordered 3 of the 7 starters before hitting on one that they were actually able to serve. Chicken Liver Parfait was substituted for 'Ham Hock Terrine' which was still in the shape of whatever tin it had come out of... Our toddler ordered a melon and berry starter and even he commented that there were no berries... We left upon being served our mains much to our hungry toddlers dismay. The burger was tiny, dry as sticks and I've not seen as bad in fast food restaurants, served with a condiment sized dish of chips. The chicken and leek pie was no better, under a pie top was a watery yellow sauce with pieces of chicken floating (I couldn't bring myself to even taste it as it resembled what can only be described as sick). At £19 a main course they really need to do so much better!

We visited Linden Tree for dinner as part of a stay at Linden Hall Hotel. It's a lovely little pub, and the food was excellent. We had a very good meal in this pub in May 2019 whilst staying at The Linden Tree Hotel. Visited again this month and the pub is open but for drinks only. Such a shame. Suspect it was drawing diners away from the perfectly pleasant but somewhat over priced hotel restaurant. Maybe Macdonald Hotels need to have a rethink on this one.

We were staying at the Linden Hall hotel and for our second night decided to eat at the Linden Tree pub. I have to be honest and say we were not going to eat there having read quite a few negatives on here about the pub but we decided to risk it. Choice of food was good , I chose the steak and ale pie with horseradish mash and vegetables , it was served piping hot and it was very tasty. My partner chose the fish and chips which she said was very nice and it looked nice as well, I had a few of the chips as there were far too many, they were nice too, freshly cooked by the look and taste of them. I rounded off the meal with a very nice Strawberry cheesecake served with ice cream. We both had a drink and the bill came to around £40 which we thought was good. All I can say is despite some of the other reviews we couldn’t fault the pub, all of the staff were very friendly too. So perhaps do as we did on a two day break, one night in the hotel, the other in the pub.

Staying at the Hotel and opted to have dinner at the pub; good atmosphere and varied menu. Generally staff good but attention to detail and service did let them down and reason why gave an average rating. Food was very good, so would rate the chef higher. However the things that let the staff and pub down were; visited earlier on in the day, tables not cleared, bag of rubbish lying outside conservatory door, over grown weeds in areas, rusted bbq, asked waiter for astray to be pointed to one in someone else’s table and he didn’t empty it for me so left with dirty astray. Initial service at dinner very good, although had to ask what soup of the day was. Twice asked for glass juice no ice both times came back with ice, asked for water had to ask again. Bag of rubbish still lying from earlier on in the day. Although food was lovely and good atmosphere unfortunately it’s the small things that generate dissatisfaction suggest staff just need to focus on the detail and Macdonalds need to carry out some grounds maintenance to the external patio area.

Went here while staying at Linden Hall Hotel. Lunch was OK but the evening meal was not at all good. Four people had what was described as "free range chicken pie with ham and leeks in a creamy sauce". There was no sign of any ham, nor of any leeks and the chicken was stringy and overcooked - there were a few odd lumps of solid chicken. None of the four could finish it - we told the waitress it was inedible but she just said "Oh". Atmosphere was OK and the service, especially as it was busy, but would not recommend the food at all.

Like a previous reviewer, we also hadn’t been to Linden Pub for quite a few years. Back then, it was a “go to” destination; we remember the fish & chips being excellent and their Sunday roasts were first class. We decided to try the place again today - what a mistake. The pub looked run down even from the outside. The once immaculate car park was bordered by patches of ground overgrown with weeds. When we entered the pub, we knew instantly that this place had gone drastically downhill. It looked dated and dismal and there were no other diners. We should have known we’d made a mistake at that moment. We were greeted by the barman who asked us whether we knew that they were only serving sandwiches. I pointed at their “Specials” board and asked whether they were not, in fact, on offer. No, he said. We turned to leave but he said he’d go and check with the chef. After some negotiation, he told us that, yes, the Specials were indeed on. So we both chose the spinach & brocolli soup and also asked for potato skins to share. My wife asked for a bottle of sparkling water. They only had large bottles, she was told. She declined that offer. The tables were set in the conservatory so we sat there with a view on to a sad little courtyard with a few tables, one of which was uncleared. Not a good start. Eventually, the soup arrived. It was almost cold. Having had experience at other restaurants of returning cold soup only to have it return like molten lava, we ploughed on. Well, at least the roll is nice & warm, I said to my wife. She opened her roll and found the center to be completely frozen. We called over the barman to ask if the roll could be replaced. 10 minutes later (and after we had both given up on the now clay cold soup), the roll arrived. My wife tried to pick it up and yelped as she was scalded by the roll that had obviously been “nuked”. The skins were OK - but the garlic mayonnaise obviously had several cloves of garlic squeezed into it. I can still taste it 4 hours later. The bill came to just short of £20. What a shame. This used to be a wonderful venue - somewhere to go as a treat. MacDonald Hotels - you should be ashamed of yourselves. If this is where your standards have dropped to, you really do have some problems. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Booked a table but on arrival they could not find our booking but that was no problem as there were plenty of tables. We both liked the idea of the special, fish pie, and were told, on asking, that the fish was white and probably haddock. It was salmon. And, of course, pink. But very little of it in a very thin white sauce. The accompanying vegetables were only a few carrot slices and some cauliflower, both so al dente our forks bounced off. For dessert my sticky toffee pudding had a concrete base so I asked for it to be changed for what my friend had ordered, brownie with cream. I got my replacement long after she had finished and it had probably been shoved in a really hot oven or blow torched as it was burnt on top. No apology for what seemed like a common complaint. Do the people running this restaurant not read these reviews? We are staying just up the road but we won't be going there again. Our waiter was nice though but he deserves a better employer.

We said no, but thought there would be no problem as it was quiet. However the barman said that he would need to check with the chef as they had another party of 4 booked at 1.30. He came back but ignored us and when I asked whether we could eat he said the chef wasn't sure. There was only one chef on today and they had four people coming in, and in any case there might be a bit of a wait....... so we left! I felt like we were an intrusion. If they can't cope with more than a handful of customers, then there is something seriously wrong somewhere. The pub lost business; I am sure we would have spent upward £70. Anyway we went to the Anglers Arms at Weldon Bridge and had a wonderful welcome and a wonderful lunch - and we will probably return. Won't bother trying the Linden Pub again.

Tired, jaded and food very poor. Ordered scotch broth soup ...mostly barley and very little veg. Roll was a frozen one that had been put in microwave prior to serving so it was like chewing on a piece of leather. Prawn ciabatta came in a cold clearly just defrosted ciabatta. £9.50... Appalling This is attached to a 4 star country house hotel ..really?? Won't be returning. Someone needs to take this pub on and reinvent it ... At least get a chef who can produce decent food. And.... Modernise the decor. It's stuck in the 80s/90s. One of the worst places I've eaten in .... Avoid is all I can say.

One ham sandwich was served to my elderly step mum on "doorstep " sized white bread and the other came in supposedly ciabatta which had clearly come out of the freezer and pushed in the oven but not for long enough and was a doughy mess! Both sandwiches were smothered in mustard mayonnaise, usually this would be served separately. The only thing that was ok was the bottle of sparkling water but at £5.00 a bottle I wouldn't have expected anything else...to top it all the place was totally empty obviously with no atmosphere and no deduction was made from the bill! Felt sorry for our waiter who as trying his best and said he would have a word with the chef, if you could call him that!!Needless to say we will not be back and if anyone reading this has any sense give it a miss too...

More relaxed setting and a more straightforward menu but the food was of excellent quality and well presented. We ate both here and in the main restaurant and enjoyed both immensely. Nice range of local craft beers to try. Sheltered courtyard area outside for dining if the weather is good.

Went for Sunday lunch today with my elderly parents for a treat - DONT BOTHER.Entered Linden Tree Pub and my Mum politely asked the waiter at the bar could we have a table for Sunday lunch - his reply 'We don't do Sunday lunch' and turned his back. We were a bit taken aback as there were clearly people eating in the conservatory.I commented 'Sunday', 'People eating' 'Lunch' given his otherwise previous disinterest, to which other people sitting down began agreeing with my comments. He said we could perhaps have a table or he could phone Linden Hall and see if they could fit us in.We almost were thinking about sitting down but due to the lack of respect for their customers I said we should leave and did so promptly to take our business elsewhere.Linden Tree Pub - we wont ever be back and shall ensure none of our friends ever have the opportunity to be offended by your rude and ignorant disinterested staff. If the manager would like to discuss you can email me on abowmanuk@hotmail.co.uk - I'm annoyed I wasted my time and fuel getting to your establishment!Tim

Four of us enjoyed a discount voucher lunch here. We had different starters which were tasty. Then we all chose the blade of beef with mash and cabbage. The beef was very tender and tasty. We did not have a dessert this time but we intend eating here again very soon. The waiter/ barman was friendly and helpful, service was very quick as the restaurant was fairly quiet.

We had a meal here today using an Itison Voucher. I rang & booked the table on Friday but the staff on duty had no record of the reservation. They did not seem to know anything about the promotion. Our first drinks, a pint of bitter and a gin & tonic came to £10.70 which was rather eye watering. Swiftly changed to a half of lager instead of a g&t for my next drink bringing the cost down to £5.60! On the plus side the food was delicious.

Well what can I say! Choice of the Dobson restaurant or the Linden tree pub. We chose the pub . Menu looked quite simple, what could go wrong. Ordered one burger in a brioche bun and one Scampi. Burger was overdone ,no flavour and a few chips £14. Scamp was underdone all 6 of them and a few chips with a bit of tartare sauce £10:95. Complained about the Scampi, and they took it away. 10 mins later 6 more cremated Scampi and a few chips. To get rid of the bad taste these left in our mouths we shared a fudge brownie £5.00,and 3 piece cheese board £9. Brownie was ok. But the cheese board came with three pieces of cheese that can only be described as Dairylea size, and three oat biscuits 6 tiny grapes and three shavings of celery. Price in total including 4 gin and tonics £ 80. Worse still the next morning we both had upset stomachs and toilet issues! The presentation of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Be warned eat there at your peril. Absolute garbage. Did tell the receptionist at the hotel, all she said was oh I'm sorry about that! Never go back there again, left a bitter taste in our mouths!

Poor, poor food choice, expensive pub grub!We chose to eat in the Linden Tree as there was a wedding reception on in the main hotel and it seemed staff were running backwards and forwards to serve the wedding party and also serving in the Dobson restaraunt. The Linden Tree pub is a two minute walk from the main hotel, nothing wrong with the mainly conservatory setting, however service was slow despite booking a table via the hotel reception.I chose the veggie curry and chips from the blackboard specials menu at £10.95, this was a watery concoction looked like a very poor tinned ratatouille, tasted just like watery veg, I am not a vegetarian but I do enjoy some veggie based meals. I could not eat the curry, I just ate the chips so my main meal ended up costing me just shy of £11 for chips. I then chose ice cream for dessert which was just ordinary ice cream. My husband had the braised beef and mashed potatoes meal from the main menu which he said was tasty but no vegetables accompanied the meal and it was a small portion. The staff seemed to disappear, we went to the bar to pay our bill , the bar man stated 'they' ? had pinched his waiter to help serve in the conference hall at a young farmers event. We chose to eat out away from the hotel on our further two nights stay as we were disapointed to say the least. It seemed as the hotel guests take a back seat if there is an event on , which there was the wedding and the young farmers event. It is a shame as I do like to have a relaxing dinner and a drink without worrying about driving when I stay in a hotel. To summarise , poor service, poor food choices, expensive pub food! Take stock and observe before choosing your meal venues is my future recommendation, in any hotel!

Hadn't been to thus pub for a couple of years but had a Gift Voucher so decided to give it a try! Booked in advance due to the Bank Holiday but there was no record of this on arrival! We waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged at the bar. There was one member of staff to cover the bar, take orders from the tables and serve the tables! As the golf shop was shut, he also had to register golfers setting out on the course! The menu was fine if you like steaks, burgers and fried fish but vegetarian choice was limited. It is somewhat overpriced at £14 for fish and chips with lukewarm "crushed garden peas".The real ale was unavailable today; as was sparkling mineral water. The warm chocolate brownie was chilled (just de-frosted?) and looked like something from Iceland. It was heated on request.Customers next to us were served sandwiches on sliced white bread. They were unimpressed but told that was the only bread available despite the bloomer and ciabatta listed on the menu. Compared to our last visit, the place was quiet and lacked atmosphere- perhaps unsurprising at £55 for an uninspiring lunch. Wetherspoons has a better choice of food and drink and more staff to serve it!Unlikely to return.

Whilst looking at the main hotel as a venue for a birthday meal, thought that we would try the pub for some lunch. It was very quiet and we were able to find a table in the conservatory. (it did become quite warm). Good service from young waiter. My wife chose the fish pie with seasoned cauliflower and carrots and found it tasty. It could have benefited from more white fish. I had what was sausage and mash but had a up market description, again tasty. My lemon tart sweet could have been sharper. I was sat facing the servery so had a view into the kitchen which may not suit everyone.

Only customer in there at lunchtime. Wasn't sure if it was open as it resembled a shop rather than a pub, with golfing merchandise everywhere. However, the barman was very professional, welcoming and pleasant and served me a perfectly acceptable sandwich and coffee very quickly - so no complaints there.

We really wanted to enjoy the Linden Tree pub, as it was the first night of our holiday week. CONs: (1) Service was truly appalling: insufficient, undertrained staff, who insisted they get our drinks but then took half an hour to pick them up from the bar, failed to log our food order with the kitchen, leaving us waiting for an hour despite reminders and then a "I don't know what happened there" instead of a simple, honest apology. The poor waiters have to wear ridiculous ill fitting uniforms which just exacerbate the horror. NOT GOOD!(2) The ambience is more motel than pub. (3) Very limited food options. PROs:(1) Helpings (when they came) were LARGE.That's it! In short, best to go elsewhere, sadly.

Situated as part of a hotel/spa/golf course complex. Not a true Pub but a bar/bistro with a bar area but also conservatory dining area. Food choice limited and when we visited fresh fish was not available. Food only average for cost with charred steak and large chips not impressive.Service reasonable but stretched.Good parking and toilets.

We came here because we were staying at the hotel which this pub belongs to. It is effectively the restaurant for the hotel most of the time as the main hotel restaurant is only open at weekends, unless you are here as part of an event. The food is good pub standard from a limited menu, and the setting is pleasant. But you have to pay inflated prices because of the location (and the captive market) so it is not good value for money. Try the haggis starter or the chicken caeser salad or the burger to be on the safe side - our party were disappointed with the gammon and steak.

We are vegetarian. The options were very limited. But tasty. A 2 night stay involved eating the same again. Even soup of the day and specials of the "day" did not change. They were meat based. Tuscan bean soup whippe. With bacon, kill me! There is no need to randomly insert meat. Get a grip! Being vegetarian in Northumberland has been tough!

Had a nice evening meal here quite pricey but to be expected when part of the hotel. We had haggis Bon bons and mixed bread to start, both lovely and very good portion sizes for the price. Then we had scampi and chips and the mixed grill. The scampi was really nice with a lovely salad on the side. The homemade tartar sauce was a bit too sour for my taste as it had too much vinegar in it but it didn't detract from the meal. My husband enjoyed his mixed grill although his steak wasn't as rare as he would have liked. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding which was really good and a peach melba sundae which was ok but had a distinct lack of peaches! The ice cream with both desserts was really good and very creamy. The menu isn't very big but still varied and we did enjoy the meal overall.
