Lily's Vegetarian Indian Restaurant in Tameside

Vegetarian food is my favourite and Lily's don't disappoint! We had a dhosa (not had one before, amazing!), A paneer butter masala, a signature sizzler (must have!) and a Puri dish with a garlic naan. It's great sharing food and the flavours are amazing. If you're considering going to lily's,go go go!Also, get a chai tea. So good!

Booked here as it is the first vegetarian Indians I've ever seen. Staff were lovely, food was gorgeous plenty of dishes I'd never seen before definitely come back again

It is fair to say that we have been here plenty of times now, as well as having had takeaway several times through lockdown, and it has always been a good experience. Always good flavour, a pleasant relaxed atmosphere that is not stuffy or overly formal, and very friendly staff. I enjoy coming here for lunch and having a mushroom puri, or coming from an evening meal and having a paneer makhani (we have the version with tofu, which is of course not identical to paneer, but as good an alternative as I've ever tried since I stopped eating the real deal!), baingan bharta, veg manchurian - with gujarati samosa and sev puri as starters/sides. The thali meals are also great value and always a good experience, and a way to try something different from your usual order.The samosas, and various other bits, are also available from the deli counter and are great value for a snack or to take home as sides for your own attempts at curries.

The food here is very predictable. It’s always great. Me and my brother are both vegan and this place is totally geared up for taking care of plant based eaters. We ordered (Click and collect) Palak & Mushroom (Spinach & mushroom cooked with traditional Indian spices. Gluten free.£6.50), Baingan Bhartha - Mashed grilled aubergines cooked with onions, garlic, tomatoes, chillies & spices £6.99, Tarka Dall .£5.50, Gujarati Rotis - £2.25 and jeeri rice. Everything was delicious. For all the food, we asked them when cooking it if they could use no/minimal oil as well as keeping everything meat and dairy free and they were very accommodating. Our Dad (in his 70’s) who hasn’t had an Indian meal in a long time also loved it and was not bad off it, no repeating, heartburn etc and we think it was because the meal had no meat, no dairy (no ghee butter) and min oil. There is something magical about eating plant based food, it hangs nicely and the body reacts extremely well to it. Go plant based!

Lily’s is the only authentic Indian restaurant and take-away in Ashton-under-Lyne so there isn’t really any competition. On the whole their food is good and the majority of the time the ingredients used are fresh, but every time I’ve ordered food from the take away I’ve found that the curries and chutneys are very watered down. As you can see from the photographs attached, a third of the sambhar sauce is a layer of pure water. This is probably done to make the sauces and curries go further but it’s really disheartening, as it affects the quality of the dishes. I didn’t even eat the sambhar which was meant to accompany my Masala Dosa. I am a real foodie and eat regularly at different food establishments/take aways, I also cook authentic Indian dishes myself, so feel I have enough experience to know good food when I find it, and I would say that Lily’s is very mediocre. The food is always average but as stated earlier, it is authentically Indian so it is the best option around if you want vegetarian Indian food. I would recommend their snacks and street food, in particular the Gujarati Samosas but I think the curries and sauces are average and could be vastly improved.

Over priced water curries with cold tasteless spring rolls and samosas, greasy rice and hard okra. Very disappointing birthday meal.

I had been recommended a while back but due to lockdown was unable to visit. We popped in as we set off to the Lakes for a small family break. The staff were incredibly friendly, hygiene measures were 5* and as a vegan it is lovely to have a full menu of options. I have gotten used to being stuck with one, maybe two options at many places. Spoilt for choice I opted for the palak and mushroom, which was to die for. Everyone had a pleasant meal, would highly recommend.

The food was just not authentic here. I’ve had lots of vegetarian Indian food in England, this place doesn’t stand a chance against those, but the atmosphere is great 👍

I really enjoy Lilly's... I have written a review before and think it's a nice place to eat. But the last two times I have not had a good experience. I asked if they would be able to do a Gobi 65, the first time they said yes and served Gobi Manchurian. I thought it could be a honest mistake so I didn't send it back. This time, I asked again, the server as previously went to the back to check and got confirmation they could. This time, I had ordered a take-away, I had already ordered a Gobi Manchurian as one of my dishes. When I got home, I discovered they had just given me 2 Gobi Manchurians which one went to waste. I would rather they just be honest and say sorry, we can't do this. It's not a big deal rather than force a sale.

Have been to Lily's many times and just love it. The food is really tasty and totally spoilt for choice with such a great menu. Great service and lovely staff. The "Thursday Thali" for £9.99 is just superb. Keep up the good work Lily's! Always a pleasure to visit (and get a few snacks to take home from the deli section too!)

Repeat visit to Lily's yesterday and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious; spicy and tasty. The vegetarian menu is varied, something for everyone and all our food was fabulous. The dosa was great and the sizzlers just fantastic. In fact we couldn't;t eat it all so we took a doggy bag home!The team have obviously gone to a lot of trouble make diners feel safe and secure in these strange times, and despite all the sanitising the service was prompt and friendly. WE'll definitely be going again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

The food was gorgeous, especially the cauliflower with Manchurian sauce. Tables self distanced and staff had visors , felt really safe. Everything exceptional.

Amazing afternoon tea with everything vegan. I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Felt completely safe and service was excellent as ever. My favourite local restaurant. Absolutely recommended.

I have to write again about this restaurant. As I wrote on a previous review, I have never had a bad meal here and I have been several times. I never mentioned the staff the last time, I should have done. We were made to feel welcome throughout the time we were there. Always smiling too. It was a lovely experience in this crazy world of today! I had something totally different from the menu, Papdi chat it was amazing.

Just posting to shout out Lily's Vegetarian Indian Cuisine in Ashton Under Lyne.My first time there tonight and truly felt welcomed by the staff. The person we spoke to first was keen to inform us that they could make almost any dish on the menu vegan for us, as well as telling us about their in house made paneer. Then another member of staff came over to take our order and acknowledged that their colleague had communicated we required a vegan meal. The food was absolutely gorgeous and I loved that you could get small portions of lots of different things, my favourite way to eat!We ordered our desert but unfortunately they didn’t have the fudge cake and yet another lovely member of the team came to explain what they had available and returned with our delicious pudding as well as an on the house beetroot Halwa which was unreal! I’d have never have chosen it from a menu but will definitely be having it next time! The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, I couldn’t fault my experience tonight we will definitely be returning for more!!

Me and my partner went here around November and the meal was amazing service was great and great price with me being veggie it was ideal and my boyfriend said even his was very nice and he is a meat eater

Visited with family. Booked online and received a confirmation straight away. As we got there we were given our table straight away. Service was brilliant and food even better. Best thing is after eating you can go to the shop to purchase snacks. Definitely a place to visit.

The food was delicious and it's so nice to have lots of veggie options. The samosa chaat was especially good. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Tables had been spaced out and everything was well cleaned between people.

Honestly, this is my favourite restaurant in Manchester and Greater Manchester. Never had a bad dish in the half dozen or so times I've been. Gorgeous food from the top to the bottom of the menu. Lovely staff too.

Visited the restaurant today for the first time since lockdown. It was a birthday treat and I went with my wife and two kids. I love what they have done with the restaurant since moving and today was no different. Amazing friendly staff and perfect awesome food too. It’s a credit to the owner and the team in what they have achieved. I am a long term fan and they only keep getting better if that’s possible. Couldn’t rate this place highly enough and recommend to everyone and anyone who likes some traditional vegetarian Indian food. We can wait for the new place in Chorlton to open but will still travel that bit further for the full experience here.

Me and my husband with to Lily's restaurant last week. The social distancing measures put in place were excellent. Tables were spread out. Declan our waiter had a visor on wonderful young man made us feel as ease. Menus were paper disposable ones. Had a wonderful meal. Will be going again very soon.Great food and excellent social distancing just what we need at the moment. Well done lily's!

Been to Lilys a few times and always impressed. The food is packed with flavour, especially the papdi chat which is gorgeous. All the staff are very friendly and attentive. This was our first visit since lockdown and we were impressed with all the health & safety measures in place - very reassuring . Always highly recommended

Lily's is a place where you can expect a warm welcome. The staff are highly professional here withiut any stuffiness. This is a place which knows what it does and does it extremely well.It is a good menu - not too long which is always a bad sign, but still there is lots going on. I fancied paratha - but that was not on the menu but they made me one anyway. Actually it was a stuffed one with some potato inside, an aloo paratha. With their dal makhani that was one truly inspired combination. They eat this stuff in heaven.Prices are very reasonable. If you live in Greater Manchester and like cuisine of South India, this place is a must. Going to Lily's makes people feel good about life. There is a deli on site which would be worth a look.

My wife and myself had lunch at lily's it's the first time we've been but won't be the last the food is excellent, the staff are friendly and welcoming the service is quick and efficient, a very nice modern decor, background music at a nice level so you can still have a conversation, I've never been to a vegetarian restaurant before unlike meat curries the food was light and not oily, again if you like Indian food then you must eat here.

I don't actually like Indian cuisine but my partner does and this place is amazing for it! The prices are reasonable and the food is all authentic. No wonder it has won several awards. Another gem is their little takeaway deli, even I find something delicious there as they've got a whole range of sweet treats and even vegan ice cream.During Covid-19 I'm not sure when their restaurant area will reopen but their takeaway is still available and we still pop in regularly.

It was my first visit to Lilys. The customer service was amazing; staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, would highly recommend the Dhosa!

After hearing that Lily’s is great for a few years now, finally got round to giving it a go. Being honest the reason for it taking so long was probably down to the fact there’s no meat on offer. If I’d known what to expect I would have come a long time ago. Really good fresh food, real depth of flavour and different to your run of the mill curry houses. Dosas are a treat.

Not one to post TripAdvisor reviews but do like Lilys and luckily I live nearby and think it's good to support a great local business. Sunday morning for breakfast. Very tasty. Can really recommend. Today's selection: Mini Uttapam, Sambhar, Chole, Bhatura, Fuli Ghathia, Sambaro, Pawa Bateta, Jelabi, Fried Chilies, Coconut Chutney, Masala Tea. Oh and a double decker dhokra arrived not listed as well. Sets you up for the day! Friendly service, had a good chat. Oh and with Covid they are reducing the number of tables and staggeringarrivals so the couple of no shows while we were there is really poor. If you can't make it let them know, applies to any restaurant at the moment.

Tried the breakfast for the first time, it did not disappoint! Absolutley delicious and the restaurant felt very covid secure.

I decided to try one of the pizzas from the new pizza menu. I got the chilli paneer pizza and the topping was alright but I was really disappointed with the cheap premade base (think 79p cheese and tomato 12' pizza from asda, it's that type of base). For 12.95 I expected fresh homemade base and I could have gone to any low budget take away and got a similar pizza for half the price.I've had Lilly's numerous times and they are the best Indian restaurant in the area by a long way but I'd stay well clear of the pizza menu.5 stars for the usual menu. 1 star for the pizza.

Ordered a takeaway last night and it was amazing! We’ve visited Lily’s for take away and dine in a few times before and we’ve always been highly impressed. The staff are lovely and friendly and can’t do enough for you. The masala chips are a must and the paneer tikka masala is delicious. I would recommend Lily’s to anyone!

What can I say? Me and my family ordered last summer and we definitely weren't disappointed. If I could I would eat here every day.

Ate here today ( our 2nd visit ), and as before the food is excellent, the staff are friendly and knowledgable about the menu and look incredibly smart. Thank you Declan who was one of our waiters today, unfortunately I didn’t get the young girls name who also served us, but they helped to make the experience there wonderful. I cannot fault the food; we’re not vegetarian but love eating there.

Food is great, ambience of the new hotel is unparalleled, I can see it is a jewel of Manchester. Real taste of India. The staff is very courteous and sure place to go. But do not go without appointment. Thali option is great, though a bit pricey , not too bad for £12.99.We went to this restaurant, bought loads of sweets trupti sweet with paneer and rasgulla is the best, some Bengali style sweets, all indian sweet, methipaak all excellent. bought ganthia and chavana, great price and well presentated, creates a hunger to buy. But the way in which we were dealt for food at restaurant was not good, there were some empty tables, but we were told no vacancy, not able to take away as they were too busy, we tried to persuade but no chance, it was still 2 hours to close, but were turned down. So had to leave with sweets and farsaan and eat in the car. had starved whole day as going to a fab place! So always book before you go.

We had a fantastic meal, the food was wonderful and the service excellent, the staff were so helpful and very knowledgeable about vegan food which was so helpful.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant to eat out at. The food is lovely and as a vegetarian I love having so much choice (for a change!), the staff are very friendly and always make a fuss of my baby daughter. I wish I could afford to eat out more because I love this place

Soon as we walked in we was made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff. Once seated the young waiter who was very professional went through the ordering process and also checked if we had any dietary requirements. We asked about certain dishes to which he knew the answers to which helped us make out decision on what dishes we picked. We didn't wait long for our courses to be brought out considering how busy it was. The food was amazing in flavour and presented beautifully. Throughout the night we had a number of waiters attend our table each one as friendly as the first waiter we had.

Had a wonderful valentines meal, the food was excellent and the service was extremely good especially as it was so busy.

First time here tonight and the food is amazing! Wide variety of dishes and everything sounded lovely. We had a Palak Paneer curry and a Paneer butter chicken and they were lovely.

You just can't beat Lily's. Such a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan culinary offerings in a colourful and attractive setting. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, so eager to please. Declan, a delightful member of the younger generation, (and an accomplished baker!) served us with tasty and authentic food. You could try one of Declan's (vegan) cakes for dessert too!

Decided to make the trip to Ashton to try this place after seeing and hearing lots of good things. Let’s just say that I was not disappointed! Staff are friendly and the food is delicious. I really struggled to choose what to order as everything sounded amazing but finally settled on some smaller dishes to share with friends so we could try some as much as possible. I honestly couldn’t fault it and would definitely recommend. I will certainly be making a trip back!

Visited with our 2 year old. I'm vegan. My partner is vegetarian. They were so helpful in advising on vegan dishes for me and I was over the moon about how much choice I had! Usually there's 1 or 2 options - here it's 90% of the menu! They even brought vegan mint yoghurt with the poppadoms!

Visited on Lily’s 1st birthday, unlimited thali day. Every dish was excellent, tip.. order the mango drink - delicious. Service very high standard, waiters knew all of the dishes, will definitely return. Happy birthday Lily’s!!

This was my first experience of Lily's & I cannot wait to go back again.The Food was absolutely beautiful, excited to try different dishes, excellent service, the staff were lovely and attentive. The environment warm, vibrant & friendly, there's some beautiful artwork on the walls. We were kindly given a complimentary dessert due to it being a birthday treat as myself and my friend have a birthday a week apart. It was an overall wonderful experience & I look forward to returning. If you find yourself in the area book yourself a table, you won't be disappointed.

Simply amazing food! I have been a couple of times in the last two months and cannot name a better restaurant offering Indian cuisine. All of the staff are so friendly too which definitely makes a dining experience more comfortable.

Suggested to me by my daughter, this was a new type of experience, since we are not all strictly vegetarian. The food was fantastic and definitely did not disappoint. It's all about the flavours and the menu is very wide ranging. Staff are really nice too. Busy and great atmosphere... I would definitely recommend!

I adore going to Lilys and whenever I go I start to plan what I am going to have upon my return!! It has become a firm favourite for family and friends get togethers. The staff are lovely and combine efficiency and attentiveness. It is a wonderful gem and a lovely,affordable treat.

My wife and I recently visited this restaurant with my daughter who is vegan, and her vegetarian husband. Neither of us are vegetarian, and to be honest we both wondered if the food would be as tasty as theregular Indian restaurants. To our surprise and great delight it was as good if not better than most other Indian restaurants we have been to.

Had a delicious meal here with my family at lunchtime. There were 5 of us. We all ordered 2 starters to share. Both bhel puri and Pepsi chat were delicious. 5 mains each one was so tasty. Lovely warm butter rotis. We had dhal, paneer,okra, palak chana and masala dosa. Service was friendly,attentive and courteous. I have visited before and will visit again. Best vegetarian restaurant.

I visited Lily's vegetarian Indian restaurant for a meal with my work colleagues. It was my first visit to a vegetarian indian restaurant and it wont be my last. The food was lovely, very tasty and good value for money.

When you go somewhere as often as I’ve been to Lily’s, you run out of new nice things to say about. So, I’ll just say that the food and service were really good and, if there were any teething problems when they moved into their new premises last year, they’ve sorted them.

Went here recently during Divali very busy but service still quick, really enjoyed the food even though I am a confirmed meat eater, Bhajis not the best I've had but still very tasty. Really liked the Rose Water Milk Shake very refreshing, prices good, surprisingly full and took doggie bag home. Bought a selection of sweets from the sweet counter very tasty if a little pricey.

Had my first visit to Lilys which was recommended by a friend. The decor and staff were great. The food was exceptional- will definitely be returning.

To celebrate the Indian new year, we friends had chosen this restaurant as many of us were vegetarians. A set menu was preordered to suit all taste.

Only ordered a dahl from the takeaway section of the restaurant – while it was perfectly okay, it was nothing special and in my opinion rather overpriced for the quality and the amount you got; have wanted to visit this place for years and now I have I won’t be returning!

Visited here to eat for first time and was impressed by the food, ambience and decor. Whilst there are lots of restaurants in the UK claiming to be ‘Indian’, this one is definitely an authentic Indian restaurant with well made and good value food. Service was a little hit and miss but overall a great place to visit for traditionally Street food and mains. I’ll certainly look to return. We also bought some food to take away including Indian sweets (mithai) and samosas - again excellent quality and lots of vegan choice. Well done Lily’s!

Loved our experience at Lily’s. Beautiful decor and attentive friendly staff. Absolutely loved the afternoon tea- beautiful mix of flavours and textures. Will definitely return to order from the regular menu. Purchased some fantastic treats from the deli- best samosas ever!

Travelled far from Altrincham via city centre. Staff seemed young and studenty which in city centre is a recipe for disaster. Here they are very knowledgeable about each dish, and the order came correctly aswell as hot and tasty. My mother was particularly impressed with deli counter selection.

New to the area. What a lovely friendly scrummy gem of a place! Staff so friendly (thanks Declan!) will be visiting again !

Good atmosphere good selection of food but not being a vegetarian I couldn’t get my head around eating a curry without meat. Sorry

Clean place , nice decor, but it stops there. Prices high , quantity for snacks miniscule, tastes odd with flavour non authentic . Chefs are gujarati and rajasthani but no gujarati or rajasthani touch . Punjabi flavour absolutely unbearable. Dont know which Indian cuisine they serve! Its neither western Gujarati maharashtrian or rajasthani or eastern bengali , oriya or assamese or south indian or northern punjabi or up bihar himachali flavour. I advise them to segregate genuine flavour by employing proper chefs . These chefs who make mawa-ghee-sweets from milkpowder and probably condensed milk has no authentic indian sweets ingredients. Restaurants has food from the same world as non indians bangladeshi muslims running Indian restaurants with their own version of indian food catering to English spiceless tastebuds for decades , a far cry from real indian flavours . This is a vegeterian indian restaurant run by indian looking NON INDIANS . They are 3rd or 4th generation of kenyan gujaratis who have never been exposed to variety of Indian Street and home cooked foods from a vast variety of cuisines found all over India . The owners have lived all their lives in uk or kenya in Africa but not in India . Their chefs too are of low quality smalltime cooks . I am sorry but it is true . They need to revamp their COOKING AND TASTE. It is kenyan gujarati management but with non- authentic indian vegeterian dishes of no particular region or regions of India . This comment is to change your Chefs and bring in high standard chefs who CAN COOK and give genuine sumptuous indian taste to British public and set a bench mark . British have been travelling a lot to india and are aware and familiar with indian food taste . One cannot dupe for long . Kindly bringin good , tasty , genuine Indian vegeterian food from varioys regions of India .

What an amazing restaurant. Such a huge variety and such a fresh change from usual Indian restaurant choices. Restaurant did not miss the meat. Will definitely be back

Delicious food and good management. Arrived swiftly after we ordered even though there were 13 of us on the table. Manager wanted to charge us extra for people on our booking who didn’t arrive which is understandable because they are busy, but she eventually agreed to wave it because we did buy food for my absent friend who couldn't attend the event due to illness. Very nice of the manager which was very nice of her. These areas require flexibility which she was. Will definitely return
