There was a Karaoke going on when we walked in and the atmosphere was. Absolutely Brilliant. 🎤 Merry Christmas the Owners bar Staff, and everyone who are regularly drinking in there or have never entered the premises 🎄🍺🍺🍺🥃🍷

Embarking on the saga of this legendary establishment is like diving into a tale as old as time, starting with its enviable history and a spot that couldn't be more cosmically aligned. Nestled at the crossroads of Shirehampton's natural spring and one of Earth's magnetic hotspots, the Lifeboat is more than just a pub—it's a magnet for beer enthusiasts seeking a sip of perfection. Legend has it that the mystical forces at play here align the ions in the beer as it flows from kegs to taps, ensuring a freshness that rivals any pint in the British Isles. As if that weren't enough, this pub has etched its name in the annals of history—Sir Winston Churchill penned his iconic "We shall fight on the beaches" speech while enjoying a glass of Scotch in the back left corner. It is common local knowledge that rollerblading was invented within these hallowed walls, and the dulcet tones of "Hotel California" by the Eagles was loosely based on this establishment. Step back to the summer of '85, the bar scene from the movie “Top Gun” was filmed in the Lifeboat, with Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, regulars around the village, grabbing groceries at Woolworths or munching on chips outside the Blue Dolphin chip shop. Yet, words struggle to encapsulate the essence of this place. Perhaps it's the crispness of the beer or the surprisingly soft toilet paper—details matter, you know. Or maybe it's the harmonious symphony of locals joining in with the musicians, creating an atmosphere that defies definition. Whatever it is, the Lifeboat will weave its enchantment around your heart, just as it has for countless others. If you've yet to make this pilgrimage, add it to your bucket list. It's not just good; it's otherworldly.

They have done a good job on renovation. Pleased to see kept the lifeboat as a bar, was worried about that when work started on re fit. Much more chilled vibe now a days. Less potential for aggro? Lol. But not as busy? Beer prices a bit high for area, which might account for the above? Still a locals pub though. Half decent smokers/beer courtyard to side/rear, which can be a proper sun trap. Could do with a few plants though. Food? Ham/cheese rolls and that's about all.

Went in for a drink early evening midweek, was fairly quiet but had a warm welcome from behind the bar and a nice pint of Gem. Looks like they don't really do food, but there was a hot food cabinet behind the bar with Clarks pies and a few other bits. Looks a lot more welcoming after the makeover internally a few years ago, and still with the half-Lifeboat as the side of the bar. Good job.

The refit is of a good standard, and nice to see the retention and reorientation of the original bar. However, the Music is too loud and detracts conversation. Whilst a good range of Cider is available from traditional style Cheddar valley through the more popular haze and gold from Thatchers to the old favourite Natch from Taunton Cider(now St Austell brewery). However the let down was the quality of the draft beer, Bath Ales Gem was poor quality and not well kept even with a new barrel presented.

Ignore all the previous comments on here about dirty toilets and unhelpful staff, under new and local ownership the place is transformed, while retaining the character that made it what it was. Still loud and lairy as the night goes on, but you wouldn't want it any other way. With so many pubs going downhill fast, a pleasure to be in one that is on the up! CAMRA types should note they have a revolving choice of ales (Gem and Twisted Oak at present) in a place not previously known for that kind of offer, so get in there and encourage them to keep that going.

First visit on Sunday afternoon after the reopening. What a transformation! Moving the bar round has totally opened up the room. It was nice to meet some of the owners and have a chat. The bar manager is friendly, approachable and enthusiastic. The vibe is fantastic - the first of many visits. Well done to everyone involved in bringing ‘The Boat’ back to life. Kai you did an awesome job when we were there. Respect!

Had a wonderful night in, newly refurbished The Lideboat on Saturday night. The place looks great, a real passion project for 9 local lads who have pumped heart and soul into this local landmark. The shirehampton community clearly appreciated it. A great atmosphere, cracking beers and wonderful staff. Long may this place thrive. It is set to become a mainstay of the Shire cultural fabric.
