Very disappointed we had to reheat I ordered tartar sauce didn't receive it

Best chips I've had in a long time! Went here because the first fish and chip shop I encountered had nowhere I could safely tie my dog. This one, I could at least order from the doorway (although a dog ring outside would be handy). Staff were really friendly. Prices reasonable and opening hours good. Not quite enough vinegar though 😉

One of the strangest chippies food wise, service was good, but the chips are bright yellow, with a very odd coating, and very oily, not pleasant, looks like others have remarked on it. They also appear to use frozen fish pieces, the shape of the fish is always a dead give away, small and flat, but it was cooked as well as it could be. It was a convenience stop, not my usual chippy, but definitely a one and done for me, threw most of the chips out. Sadly Cornwall is fast running out of decent chippies. Why oh why are we using cardboard boxes instead of paper I’ll never know, there is barely any heat retention and just doesn’t taste the same.

Food was good but very late and not very warm

We had a delivery today, the burger was absolutely delicious, the best burger I have had in Hayle for a long time, the chips with the crunchy coating and the battered sausage were also delicious, I would highly recommend ordering from Lewy's, delivery was fast and the food was hot very happy with our order. Thanks Lewy's can't wait to try more

Very nice fish and chips with peas and sausage for the dogs of course

Went in to get take away fish and chips. Place very clean, staff pleasant and food cooked to order. Only problem, meal served in a cardboard box. Very trendy but by the time I got home, 5 minutes, the meal was lukewarm and had become very greasy particularly the chips which seemed to be coated in some sort of batter. The piece of fish was a good size and quite tasty . Fish and chips need to be wrapped in paper to keep them hot, a box is fine if you are eating them just after collecting them.

Great fish and chips. Generous portions. Fish is delicious. Im not sure what the coating on the chips is. Would recommend.

Great fish and chips (slightly battered which added a crispness) Wasn’t keen on the mushy peas, tasted watery and looked like a colouring had been added to make them dark green

So disappointing! Visited last night for dinner, and the chips were absolutely awful. They were dry, shrivelled up, and appeared to have been sat there for hours and reheated. I waited for around 30 mins for my food. Now, if this was so, I received freshly cooked chips that wouldn't be a problem but to be given such horrible chips is an insult.

Very nice Fish and Chips. Shame that there was no Haddock as we prefer it to Cod! Couldn’t fault what we had though! I’d recommend

Been in Hayle and Lelant for a week, and decided for a fish n chip meal. Omg devine. The chips had like a fine crispy coating and a yellowish tinge, something new for me, as a fish n chip officionado. The batter was lovely and crunchy too, and the fish so sweet and juicy.

We had a lovely takeaway chippy tea from Lewy’s. Friendly service. Food cooked to order. Golden crispy chips, delicious fish. Generous portions. Would definitely recommend.

Disappointed as I've had a good meal from here when I called in a year ago when in the area. This time the small cod (and it was small) was dry and chewy and the chips, although plentiful and well cooked, were an odd bright yellow colour. Never seen chips that colour before. For the best part of £10 it was poor. I wouldn't bother again.

Lewy's Fish and Chips was a mixed experience. We were the first order of the evening, but the wait felt longer than expected, though I understand everything is cooked to order. Unfortunately, the scampi was overcooked to the point of being cremated. On the upside, the chips were quite nice. Customer service was fine—nothing remarkable but nothing terrible either. The place does have a distinct battered fishy smell... and that's just the staff! Overall, it was an average visit with a few laughs along the way.

Yep. Pretty darn good. Big portions and quality of fish was OK.

Best chips ive ever had anywhere in the UK!! Can not wait till we are back on holiday near by to come and have fish and chips again!

Arrived 20 mins before closing and asked the 2 seated workers if they were still open. They reluctantly said yes, no hello or greeting. Served without a smile as if they were being inconvenienced. Took our food, thanked them and left. No goodbye, nothing. Got the food home and half of it was burned and inedible. I would rather they had just apologised and said they had already turned the fryers off. Never getting out fish & chips there again.

Great fish and chips lovely crispy batter on fish easy to park and had twice during our stay in a nearby caravan park . Will definately return here .

Overcooked but the chips were nice.

Chips were ok. Fish was shocking & that's putting it mildly - for £7:45 the fish was tiny in size, wafer thin & overcooked. We won't be returning.

When there is a queue outside, it's always a good sign! This was very tasty fish and chips, not too greasy and plenty for a good portion. The cod was tasty and fresh, chips were absolutely delicious and the scampi beautiful! Not bad at all for a takeaway. My only gripe is they turn down cash for payment. Whilst I was there, they turned down 3 customer orders as they wanted them to pay card instead of taking cash. Lucky for them, the customers obliged.

We are always pleased with our food from Leweys but would prefer.the chips to be cooked for longer. Thank you

Popped in as just wanted chips late afternoon. Yes the chips are pricey but to be fair nowhere is cheap now but wow…. The chips were delicious!!!! We sat in the car, hubby and I shared a portion and son and his gf shared a portion too, absolutely delish. Prob best chips we’ve had in a while.

Lovely fish and chips, nice light batter, good portion size. We ordered on the app and picked up 25mins later, no problems. Ate on the bench opposite- nice view!

Lovely fish and chips, cooked to order so a bit of a slow service.

I would say that the large cod was a bit on the small side for what they are charging at £6.95 The large chips portion is a very good portion for £4.00 The mushy peas were of a reasonable size for £2.00. The food was well cooked especially the chips. I would probably call again if I was in the area.

Staff were lovely but completely out of their depth. Chips were undercooked and lacked flavour. Chunks were overcooked and fish was mushy.

Really bad experience. Don't bother! Placed large order (£65) over the phone 19.05.2024 Sunday evening, we collected and went back to eat. As we plated up, realised we were missing the 3 large cod! The main part of the meal. When we rang to ask if it was there we were told we must have it and that the fryers are now turned off! After some debate they said they would cook the fish. We went back to collect and ask if they would do the lot again as by now it would be cold and they refused. We had packed and wrapped the chips and other bits back up but was still cold. Really bad service, bad attitude and blamed the customer....

They were amazing we had homemade fishcakes,pea fritters and chips,staff were great we will be back

Given 1star as no option to leave a zero star review. Can’t actually comment on the food as we left without having anything due to the staff being rude and utterly unhelpful.

Very disappointing, the girl behind the counter absolutely lovely, hence the 4star. The Bearded male could do with some training on how to talk to other staff. And don't order a chicken burger...... the most pathetic "attempt" I have ever seen in my life... photo below

Had a takeaway this evening and the fish and batter was well over done underneath..had alot of hard ends of chips 🍟 also VERY greasy on bottom of the box, not the best 😑 for sure on this occasion I'm afraid 😑

Most delicious crispy batter. The fish wasnt the best though and it still had skin on it. Maybe next time i shall try the cod.

Used to always use this chip shop, but this evening the batter was really greasy and tasted of oil. The batter was the same on the fish and the sausage, very thick batter and small fish.

Came here for the first time last week. Had the hake and chips. The fish was cooked nicely, but the batter was quite greasy. Chips were a standard affair, and nothing special. It was worth the price paid though, and wouldn't discount the place again for a chippy tea.

The food is cooked well and very tasty. This is a take away only business but has a nice small waiting area.

Very disappointing experience. Ordered 2 Regular Chips, 1 Cod, 1 Sausage and 1 Curry Sauce. The ordering experience was poor. The person on the till was friendly but found it hard to hear over the kitchen noise and made an error with our order. (Sausage meant to be Jumbo Sausage) We waited 25-30 minutes for our food which, considering the shop wasn't busy, in my opinion is way too long. We had to wait outside in the meantime. Luckily it didn't start raining. We finally get our food, only to find 1 portion of chips had no salt or vinegar on (we asked for salt on one and salt and vinegar on the other), the sausage was missing completely as well. We had to return to the shop to get this rectified. The chips were poor, the fish was standard and the sausage was standard. While waiting, 3 different customers came back to the shop because of errors with their orders. As it seems to be a trend for this shop to miss items from orders and we did not receive what was expected, I do not recommend this chippy. Food Rating: 2 (Standard, loses a star for poor chips) Service Rating: 1 (Very poor, should be 0) Atmosphere: 1 (Had to wait outside, lucky to not get rained on)

AVOID!! The smallest and thinnest cod I have ever seen, really disappointing!!! So small the girl behind the counter said she topped it up with fish bites (what you give kids) you would think being in St ives the fish would be of quality. We took a few bites and lobbed them in the bin and had soggy wet chip sandwich even the chips wasn't up to scratch! Don't waste your money I wish I demanded a refund!!

Came down for a weekend, searched best chippy in town, found Lewys, service was good they were friendly however my vinegar and mushy peas were not included in the order, I went back for the vinegar but didn't realise no peas until back to the digs... food quality, very bland and very greasey. Unfortunately not enjoyed at all...

Really good fish and chips. Had 2 small cod and a large chips. There were enough chips for 4 people.

Cod, chips & peas was £10.40 - is that expensive? I don't think there were any facilities to eat in, but then with the overwhelming smell of 'old fat', you wouldn't want to. HOWEVER ...the product is above excellent! Say whatever you like about Lewy's, their fish & chips tastes bl***y good! And - it never repeated on me so despite the grease, I enjoyed my choices more than I anticipated..especially the fish. Forget the other establishments - try out this little known gem.

Food was great, but found the staff a bit miserable and not keen to help, they also charged us for extra food we didn't actually order however we ate that anyway as it was so tasty and wasn't going to drive back to complain.

Great portion size, fresh and delicious. It's a little tradition I have to get a mushy pea fritter when going to the coast and they didn't disappoint. Hands down was the best one I've ever had

Perfect lovely freshly cooked fish and chips.... I make it now my first port of call after arriving back from the Scillonian. Forget Penzance for fish and chips...head straight for Hayle and Lewys fish and chips.
