This is a grand old building & it is showing it’s age the grand staircase was beautiful but the carpet on it was filthy that was the first indication of what’s to come some of the rooms have noisy toilet that sound like jet engines the shower was awful couldn’t have a decent shower only wash my hair to much furniture crammed in to small rooms bed was like sleeping on wood so hard I had back ache for whole stay the rooms need gutting & a refurbish get rid of wood hip it doesn’t cover the cracks. The breakfast was however the highlight of the stay the scrambled eggs were the best I have had in a long time shame the stay was marred by the rooms

We stayed at the Eliot House for 4 nights recently and would stay there again. Derek made our stay memorable because he truly cares about his guests. The breakfasts were delicious, hot and promptly served. I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone staying in the Liskeard area.

We recently had a family event held at the Eliot House Hotel. Derek and his Staff could not have been more helpful, or supportive during what was for us a difficult time. The spread that was laid on for us was excellent, with all that had been requested served up in abundance. Thank you.

We attended last night for our surprise Ruby Wedding Anniversary party. Made to feel very welcome by Owner & all the staff. Great venue, absolutely delicious buffet with plenty to go around & great variety. All family & friends also felt relaxed & all enjoyed a great evening from aged 2 years to 82 years. Thank you. This is the second time within a few months we have visited Eliot House Hotel - last time we had a lovely sit down meal in the restaurant.

Bit of a mixed bag, this one. Clean, friendly, welcoming, good service. Food, it has to be said, is variable. I've eaten there many times in the past three years or so, and have had some excellent meals, notably the salmon with dill sauce. They do a lively turkey curry and the simple ham, eggs and chips is a good standby, with good quality ham and nicely fried eggs - but, sadly, the ubiquitous bagged frozen chips. The daily roast is decent, served with generous portions of varied vegetables - not just the same old peas and carrots. On the negative side, it is not unknown for them to run out of things, and if you have a post-prandial coffee it is likely to be instant.

This carvery takes place in a hall used for dancing, weddings and other functions. This means it is not cosy or comfortable. The majority of customers are elderly and this means the meat is over cooked as this is how they tend to like it.

We were recommended to try the Sunday carvery and were not disappointed, having small appetites we chose the " children's " portion and were more than well fed. Puddings are very expensive so we declined, not particularly impressed by the few plates of desserts that went by our table considering the cost of them. Delicious coffee and lovely staff. All in all we will be back.

An old fashioned building, but nicely renovated with old pictures of the town in the bar area. Local's still frequent the bar, which gives the place a homely feel. The boss can be seen wandering around talking to customers at all times of the day. The food is excellent, the portions very generous and the service is outstanding. Worth visiting in the evening or on Sunday lunch time for a carvery. Prices are very reasonable.

It has convenient parking. We came here in, I think, November for a gathering after a funeral. We were treated. Dry well. The food was straightforward, possibly because that may have been what the family ordered. The staff were polite and considerate. But the place does not have much going for it. I doubt I would chose it for a meeting or an event. The listing could do with a few photographs to show how it looks inside and out.

We drove down from Swindon for an impromptu weekend. Because of traffic we were going to arrive outside their 9pm cutoff for checking in. After phoning ahead to inform, the polite person at the end of the phone assured us there wasn't a problem and enquired whether we would be eating on our arrival! When we eventually arrived the friendly young man showd us to our room.We chose a superior room... WOW... the size of the room was the size of similar small suites we have stayed in!The overall decor may not be to everyones taste but if you like traditional/oldy woldy then it is more than exceptable. We loved it :)All the staff are VERY nice/conversant and knowledgable when asked about local places/things to do.Derek the owner is a character and half and sat with us whilst we had a night cap.The breakfast was also very good and we gave our thanks to the chef.We are looking to return with our children for another weekend.Highly recommend.

The carvery offers a great selection of meat and a wide choice of vegetables. All stunningly cooked. The staff were attentive and helpful and we did not have to wait to get our food. Our only concern that whilst this is advertised as a carvery you can not help yourself - it is all plated for you - after your meat is carved the server then goes along the units and asks what you would like. I do not have a problem with this as I was given exactly what I requested but I do like to choose my own potatoes (that is my preference!). I am presuming that this type of 'carvery' reduces waste as people tend to put less on their plate when served (which I feel is a good thing as I hate to see people loading plates of food that is then left) and also is food is not contaminated by others who have stood over it! I will certainly eat here again - great value for money and great service.

The menu is not exciting compared with many, some may find the ambiance old-fashioned. But the essentials of quality and service are hard to beat and the food is obviously prepared by a chef with skill who really cares. You don't need Heston or Michelin to tell you when food is good. Just sample the syrup sponge - light, perfect texture, and never a sign of being anywhere near a microwave as is often the case with reheated deserts which then develop the tell-tale bitter or burnt undercrust. The mains were also excellent and the proof of the pudding is that we would happily eat here again. What's more, the prices mean it's great value for both drinks and food!

Eliot House Hotel offers one of the best Sunday carveries in east Cornwall. You can choose between beef, pork, or lamb, (or some of each!), and the vegetable selection is superb. You end up with very little room left on your plate! For the smaller appetite you can have a smaller plate, which is excellent value at £5. There is a great deal of attention to detail from genial host Derek Gilbard. We find ourselves going back increasingly frequently, even though it involves a 20 mile round trip.If you can, arrive early (12 noon) to avoid queueing and be served with food at it's absolute peak. If you haven't been before, a treat awaits!

Without a doubt the friendliest pub in St Ives. Fantastic landlord, manager and staff who always made us feel welcome. Our son was always made to feel welcome too, he loves his football and music and pool! Had something for everyone everyday. And a special shout out to Yogi Bear the pub dog who is adorable. Great choice of drinks, reasonable prices what more could you ask for on holiday or local for that matter! X
