Amazing food. Beautifully cooked and presented. We had crab with runners beans to start and one pork and one sea bass as main. Chocolate mousse as dessert. Open kitchen and they cook on a barbecue. We may try to sit at the bar next time to see how it's done.

Why 3 Stars? It's stylish, the food is high quality. Service, while not quick was warm. The central problem is the relationship of prices to portions. It's bonkers. Also, with only 4 mains to choose from, it was hard to find something other diners in my group wanted to eat. Fitzroy felt precious. Almost experimental. Very into themselves, philosophically. We were reminded of an American skit show called "Portlandia" (granted, an arcane reference). One memorable episode featured very posh diners and their weird demands and the kind of restaurant that caters to this type of person. As I said the service was warm, so you don't see the attitude issue there. But it's evident with the rigidly narrow menu and sky high prices. A skilled kitchen but not, I'm afraid, a good value. In the end, it just felt silly.

The atmosphere is smart but very casual. Its all good quality and zero pretension. Carefully selected wine list of small organic vineyards. The menu was small, focused, fresh and local. Absolutely stunning. Service immaculate without being overwhelming. This is a gem of a restaurant.

Beautiful decor and atmosphere in restaurant. Loved all the details- especially the FREE sanitary products in the toilet (only the second place in U.K. I’ve seen so this!). I also like places with open kitchens so you can see the chefs at work. Friendly attentive service. Food yum, especially the lobster. Only criticism would be dogs in the restaurant and slightly over priced for the food, but otherwise very good.

Everything was great; the atmosphere and the vibes right from when we arrived, the service and the food! One of our party has a serious allergy and this was dealt with professionally and made us all feel at ease. We asked for some advice about wines and how many plates to order and the staff were all brilliant, and made us feel really at home. The food was amazing; really exceptional with lovely coastal flavours and attention to detail. The starters, sides and mains were all equally fantastic. (We were too full for pudding!) The only reason it’s not 5 stars is the price; although everything was great, the price was like central London (about £95 per head). It’s defo worth a visit, just budget accordingly!

We have eaten here last summer and went back this week on our return to Fowey. After reading recent reviews I was a little apprehensive. However once the food arrived it was as good as we remembered. We had John Dorey as a starter with amazing carrot salad, my husband had octopus and it was totally different to any octopus he had ever had but really nice. Me and my son had the sea bass, I was nervous as served whole, I do feel the restaurant should offer to either help fillet the fish for you or at least provide suitable cutlery to be able to get to the fish. Anyway we managed to fillet it as best we could and it was worth the hassle as it tasted delicious. My husband had the turbot and again on the bone so difficult to eat but very tasty. We had cheese and the chocolate desert which were both again super delicious. So yes the portion sizes are not huge, yes the menu is limited. However if you want really tasty fish and food that tastes different to anything you’ve had elsewhere than this is the place to visit. If you want standard food with large portions this is not the place for you. I def recommend and will def return on our next holiday. The only other criticism is I don’t drink and like still water with my meal and they only offer bottled sparkling or tepid tap water, really feel they should offer s bottle if chilled still water.

Not really sure how to judge this restaurant. There wasn't really anything wrong with the food but it was the make up of the menu that was strange. We decided to opt for the pork and spinach pie which was pulled port with spinach at £35 to share. But what did it come with? Nothing unless you wanted the leaf salad or the potatoes. The pie was good but relentlessly pie and the lettuce did not overcome the lack of anything resembling a green veg to alleviate the heavy nature of the pie. Some would say the menu was a little pretentious perhaps. I don't think this is a particularly good or disappointingly bad place to eat but when Fowey has so many very good restaurants that serve well balanced meals, this one doesn't quite measure up.

The restaurant started off well; we chose bar seating to enjoy watching the chefs at work and my starter of a scallop was nice but the crab salad was very tight on crab although it did taste fresh, the lobster main was nice (but if you love anything smothered in garlic butter you would) but the monkfish was over cooked, we ordered a wine from Lisbon on tap (a mistake as it was undrinkable) the response to complaining was to check how much we had drunk…which was half a glass between us! We continued on to have a tiramisu and a cheese course which were both extremely average so to summarise we were both really disappointed and wished we’d picked one of the other restaurants on the same street! (And like a couple of other reviews also wished we’d read these before booking)

You cannot visit Fowey without a visit to this superb restaurant, only open Thursday to Sunday evenings. Otherwise they have a small Tapas style restaurant during the day. An open atmosphere restaurant with the kitchen on full view. Excellent quality service and the food was superb prepared to the highest standards. It beats many London establishments. Try the turbot if it’s on. Great wine selections and the no flour Chocolate dessert is to die for. Expensive, but well worth it especially as we end our weeks vacation in this beautiful town.

Absolutely awful we felt so cheated quality was atrocious, food served raw, portion sizes minuscule we should have listened to the reviews. We decided to give them a chance and they failed on all scores. Diners around us were also moaning at the same things so sadly it wasn’t just us. Like many other reviews we went on to eat elsewhere as we had to leave the food due to its poor quality. We paid £36 for a finger sized portion of turbot which was over cooked see picture. From outside this restaurant looks very inviting in a rough and ready sort of way, the space itself might have been a garage in its previous life. But don't be deceived! It is not difficult to cook sea food, as the ingredients are pretty tasty before one even starts. However "North St Kitchen" made it taste ordinary/boring. But there are plenty of eating places where the food is ordinary/boring. What separates this one from the rest is the ridiculous price and meanness of portions. In all my life (I am 77) I have not come across an eatery as mean with portions as this one. It is astonishing that they are not embarrassed to serve a 3" square toast with smattering of brown crab meat for £10, and 3 half slices of bread for £3. There are plenty of eating places in Fowey, no need to be lured into this one!

We visited Fitzroy’s on the 24th September and I can honestly say we have never felt so disappointed. There is literally nothing good to say. Decor basic beyond belief, the even had a tea towel pinned up at a window I guess to stop a draft? Basic everything from the furnishings to the school dinner style crockery and glasses. Attitude arrogant, service mediocre. The food average at best. You will notice a very limited menu which you know before you go but to arrive for a 7.30 reservation to find that 2 out of the 5 main courses are not available we think is unacceptable and the attitude when our disappointment was expressed was no more than a shrug of the shoulders, no apology! Starters ok but basic, had better. Choice left was lobster (ok if you like shellfish) , a vegetarian dish (again fine if that’s your thing) or a very strange mullet dish, lobster was ok but underwhelming and small and the mullet dish was just strange. Desserts worse than school dinners literally a dollop of stewed apple, a dollop of very rubbery custard and a shortbread biscuit in a bowl, no attempt at presentation and not pleasant to eat. 3 people £267 left hungry and poorer. If you like good food there are many better options in Fowey, in order of our preferences The Dwelling House (superb), Appletons or Pinxto. Happily spent about the same at all of these and left satisfied and smiling.

We enjoyed the Fitzroy, the ambience worked and the staff were great. For starters we enjoyed the fish fritters, while the courgette was ok, a bit tasteless. We both enjoyed the lobster and new potatoes ( not sure what previous complaints about the number of them was about). Finished off with the poached pear. As for the wine list, without a doubt a bit differ but it worked for us. I enjoyed the Gruner Veltliner Malinga! Overall a 4-1/2 star enjoyable evening.

Lovely restaurant with good food and friendly staff. We have been many times since this foodie gem opened. This time we had a meal for twelve in the room upstairs. The Hogget pie was particularly delicious. Wine menu is limited but those we tried were good. The only strange thing being a reluctance for us to push the two tables together upstairs to make one big one with a few grumbles about making it tricky to service the table as one. Really didn’t appear to be the case and we put the room back the way we found it. We will be back!

Finally managed to get a table at Fitzroy, we were a little nervous after seeing some of the reviews but so glad we ignored them. Yes it is expensive and there is a limited menu but everything we had was really lovely. We had bread, fish fritters and runner bean starters which were delicious and very different to anything we’ve had elsewhere. I had ricotta pasta for main which was really nice, my son had the Denver which was rare cooked slices of beef. My husband had the lobster and he said it was one of the best he’s had, and a lot better than the one he had at Steins Seafood restaurant in Padstow. We then shared the cheese for desert. We found all the staff to be really friendly and attentive. I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. We thought we might be still hungry after visiting but the complete opposite we were all really full. The only criticism is I would have loved to have the whole sea bass but they only serve it complete they won’t remove the bone and fillet it you after cooking which is a shame, having eaten at other fish restaurants where they are happy to do this. We look forward to returning to Fitzroy and recommend to anyone wanting something special and to try some different food.

It went from bad to worse for us. The rude arrogant waitor was annoyed at our party as soon as we arrived as the lady who booked our table failed to put down the correct number of guests. The waitor clearly annoyed, quite rudely and almost aggressively moved us to a new table to accommodate the additional guest (they missed). Then he asked about allergies. My 7 year old son has a peanut allergy and carries an epi pen which we told the waitress upon booking the table. However, we were then told by this waitor that it was company policy to refuse service to anyone with a severe allergy. We have been to many restaurants and never have we ever heard of such a discriminatory policy. We then politely asked if we could get him food from elsewhere while the rest of our party ate, and he said no and that the restaurant would refuse service to our entire party as we had a member with a severe allergy. It was akward and embarrassing and we left with my 7 year old apologising to his family for a medical condition he can not control. This then left us with no where to eat due to all restaurants being fully booked. Every restaurant we have been to prior to this experience has always been overly accomodating to his allergy and we've never been refused service anywhere before. It's a very discriminatory policy and is definitely worth the group looking at reviewing this and making changes going forwards. If you have an allergy of any kind, avoid this place!

The most horrendous restaurant experience of my life to date. Greeted by an arrogant waiter, we were moaned at because they had got the number of diners wrong on the booking (the extra diner was my 7 year old nephew, which I had told the waitress about when I booked the table). The waiter sat us at a different table and said ‘since you have an extra person we weren’t aware of, is there any other allergies on the table?’ I had already informed the waitress when I booked that the 7 year old had a nut allergy. She said it was fine if he was okay with traces. The rude waiter said ‘we can’t serve any customers that have someone with a life threatening allergy with them, is it life threatening?’ We said he is okay with traces but he can’t eat an actual peanut and does carry an EpiPen! He said ‘it’s a really simple question, is the allergy life threatening, yes or no?!’ We then asked if it was okay if we got my nephew some fish and chips instead and the waiter said he would have to eat it outside. Whilst this is not only rude and obnoxious, it is discrimination!! Our last night in Fowey for my dad’s 60th Birthday, left with no where to eat, caused by a pretentious restaurant who clearly don’t want to pay the insurance to allow people with allergies to eat at their restaurants. As a fellow hospitality worker, not once in all my work-life have I experienced, or condone this kind of treatment. Nor in my personal dining experience have I had to leave a restaurant, prior to even ordering a drink, feeling angry and embarrassed, with my 7 year old nephew apologising to my whole family because he has a nut allergy. The group owners should be ashamed of themselves; a disgrace to the industry.

We had the cod roe, courgette, lobster and chicken followed by baked custard and chocolate cake. The venue is small and makes for a great atmosphere and the open kitchen helps too, it’s been done really well. Our only slight negative was that the menu was fairly limited and although it was all really tasty (probably as a result of not over extending to a convoluted menu) it would have been nice for the one meat option to have been something other than chicken. I think that’s just the luck of the draw though as the menu is changed daily, which is also really unique and interesting. There were also no diet or sugar free soft drinks (apart from water) and one choice of beer (but it was a nice one apparently!) Regardless, would definitely recommend.

The Fitzroy is a classic example of a promise made but not kept. The simplicity of its menu and the styling of the well manicured restaurant and staff speak to the trend among places of excellence that are spinging up so frequently in Cornwall these days. Looking at the menu you could absolutely be forgiven that thinking, as I did, that this trend is continuing in full force. Alas, you would be mistaken. While there are moments of brilliance, they are sadly outnumbered by moments of adequacy. While the monkfish with curry sauce and the raw mackrel were simply wonderful, the lobster tasted old and tired, the brill was dry and bland, and the chicken was overcooked to the point of rubberiness. I was deeply disappointed that my initial expectations were shattered so cruelly. This restaurant has great potential, which I hope to one day see ot fulfil.

Such a great place to eat, the food was stunning, we had lobster, tomatoes with oregano, crab and green beans and rice pudding. All of it was delicious. I’ve also never had a wine I didn’t like here and I’m very fussy. Bravo Fitzroy!

Very overpriced and underwhelming food . After being in Cornwall for a week this was the most disappointing meal. I think this place relies on how busy Fowey is and mainly tourists where they don’t have to rely on repeat customers. Your booking is written...

Had fantastic dinner last night - great atmosphere, amazing food, particularly the lobster, and friendly team who very kindly accommodated our late arrival and made it enjoyable experience despite our tardiness! Just brilliant!

Was looking forward to eating here but unfortunately it wasn’t really worth the visit. Although they do take family bookings it’s really not suitable for kids under about 12. There is no kids menu and nothing particularly suitable for them to eat, our daughter had...

An absolutely delicious meal and excellent service. I had the melt in the mouth sardines; followed by an incredible lobster; and completed by the baked rice pudding and praline. Utterly delicious food. Fab staff too!

This was a first night out in a long time after long down. We were really looking forward to it, the person who booked for us said it was going to be great. It was not great. £9 for a glass of wine. Nice wine...

Fitzroy is a well-regarded restaurant set up in an old bank in the pretty port town of Fowey pronounced Foy 🙄 Soak up the vibe; posho in deck shoes, tied sweater worn over shoulders, second homer 🤦 £140 for an early dinner for 2 with 1 x glass of wine. We left feeling the mucho dinero experience was OK. Could have eaten the other half of what was a small lobster.

Visited on 21st July 2021. All dishes starter sized and overpriced. Half a lobster tasty but small unfinished plate, sitting in a lake of garlic butter with a couple of potatoes. I ordered a double mackerel starter for main -again two small fillets of mackerel...

Don't go here !!! Ok so the plus side is a good atmosphere and friendly staff, BUT it's overpriced and in my opinion a rip off. I might have missed it but I didn't see anything about a 10% service charge on already inflated prices....

Superb stay at The Fountain Inn. My old local from 35 years ago. A very warm welcome from Tracey, a very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. We will return ! Highly recommend.

We went to The Princess Pavilion to watch Ride, although the hall is cosy for a concert the acoustics were excellent, there are good toilets and a well appointed bar and ample free parking at the site. We ate out at Wetherspoons in Falmouth which was clean friendly served a good curry and a good pint. Falmouth is an old haunt which myself and my kids frequented to visit my dad who lived there for many years. The town and harbour are still a fond favourite of mine. 👌🏻

Stopped for food but told short staffed and would have to wait an hour and half for food, had a drink and got food elsewhere. Would try again.
