Levan in Southwark

This is a review for Bar Levan which adjoins Levan. I turned up on a Friday night and there were quite a few tables. They obviously didn’t like how I looked as they turned me an away but sat two young pretty girls behind me. I’m standing out in the rain! 😂 I made a reservation (there were plenty available) and returned. They said we have no table for you, interestingly I stood outside watching free tables. Oh dear - am I too old or ugly?! I don’t think I did anything - perhaps not cool enough. Wait until all the hipsters leave and places in Peckham will be forced to seat residents! 😂

Not bad on the whole except that the fish (skate in funny red sauce) was catastrophical! Prices are ridiculous bearing in mind the fact that the restaurant is pretty basic (don’t look at the floor) and it is hardly located in an expensive part of London. It must be said that the staff was very friendly.

We arrived as part of a birthday group. We decided to take the full menu with matching wines. The foods are very nice but very, very small. The wines, though good, were not generous at £120 for the wine matches I would expect more. For example, could you make one wine bottle fill 8 glasses? They can and take the wine back as well, not even leaving it on the table. Pricey with mediocre staff we went home and cooked afterwards as there was such little food.

Really cosy with an excellent wine list. Will definitely be ordering a cheese board next time we return. I have definitely found my new local happy place! Great service as well.

This came recommended and was so happy to make it on my visit. The two of us had a tasting menu; one vegetarian, the other omnivore. I’m late writing this review so cannot remember all the dishes, but they were good portion sizes for a tasting menu, and had a logical (and tasty) progression. I also selected from their wines by the glass which had some intriguing and low-intervention selections - all top-notch. Surprisingly bereft of the excellent English wines in production today, which would be my only criticism. Service started very strong and was most friendly; a bit inattentive as they got busy, but otherwise fine. Would highly recommend as a treat - prices are a bit on the dear side.

Fantastic food and wine matching, with a delightful waiter to guide us through the wines and menus. Well worth a visit, just delicious.

Levan is cosy and informal restaurant near Peckham Rye station, starving high-quality and inventive European food. We chose the 6-course tasting menu (which can be adapted for vegetarians). The dishes were intricate and imaginative, if on the small side. There is an extensive wine lost, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. An expensive evening but a memorable one.

This was my second visit to Levan and I had the tasting menu and every course was very very good. My issues was that the tasting was just that a taste I left the restaurant hungry. The other issue was that although the atmosphere is good it is mega crowded and on 3 occasions people bumped into our table as they were taking their coats on or of. Overall however a good experience

Absolutely incredible meal this Saturday evening. I highly recommend the chips, broccoli, pumpkin and chocolate and sherry ice cream. The food blew my mind. Absolutely delicious and very cool restaurant. Can’t wait to go back.

We came for lunch as Levan is fairly local for us. The food was excellent, the wine was great quality and service was really friendly. It isn't cheap but the food, wine, service and ambience make it well worth it..

Incredible food. We found Levan on the off chance browsing Tripadvisor nearby from a cocktail bar. It was amazing, service was relaxed and friendly. The food was great. I’d highly recommend the mushroom tempura and chicken main dish - I can’t stop thinking about it! Thanks and see you again, guys!

After entering, it struck me as a pop up.. very basic and not much attention to the decor, so I thought well, if the foods good than I’ll let that slide.. As I was driving, I wanted little other than a beer.. One beer on offer OR £33 bottle of Cider… Ooo Kay!? We both had the tasting menu. Each serving was small enough to be a joke.. if that wasn’t bad enough, was he serving was incredibly average in flavour and didn’t weren’t a tasting experience.. Overall.. our bill for 2 was £190 and felt i was being laughed at on our way out, without a farewell from the staff. I’ve been to many a high end restaurant and independents, but this scores very badly, and I only write this so I hoped it’s observed for Levan to improve the experience for customers, especially at this level.

The food here is so good, always exciting and interesting to taste. Very good use of textures and well flavoured, we have loved all the meals we have had here. They change their menu regularly so you can go once a month and have totally different food.

The meal started with something cheesy and naughty, because what else! Then, a starter of perfectly cured fish in a tomato consommé that slapped you in the face with flavour! The highlight came next: a stunning plate of English spring vegetables served in a lovely split sauce of cream and chive oil. I can go on about the dishes that followed, but you will just have to go yourself and try it. Everything about our evening was perfect. The natural wine pairing was very well put together and exciting to try. “Nothing is worse than a stingy pairing!” , we were told upon arrival and indeed, the servings of wine were generous. All the staff was lovely and it was an honour and joy to sit at the kitchen counter and watch the chefs do their magic. Chef Luke’s passion for his food is wonderful to watch and frankly, addictive! The pud deserves a special mention as the stem ginger back-of-the-throat burn was a true delight. We had the most exciting meal we have had in a while, all accompanied by some excellent music as well.

Lovely place. I’d been walking pass this place regularly but had never eaten there, so I was glad finally to have a chance to go. This place is very popular and it’s easy to see why. We had a lovely evening. The food was very good, particularly the cheese soufflé, though the first half of the meal was better than the second. This month’s set menu includes rabbit which was a touch disappointing. Overall the food did represent good value for money, but the wine was expensive. The service was good. Reservations essential.

Really recommend Levan for anyone who loves delicious food and drink! The service was fab too. Rating it only four stars as the set menu is expensive.

Having visited before and rated as exceptional it was a disappointing experience last night. One par excellence dish (tartare) but the remainder didn't hit the expectations of previous visit. Slightly over cooked turbot main dish and a forgettable turnip first dish, never hit the heights if Nov meal. Loved it before, second thoughts at present.

Great night out ina relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic food served by great staff, who were attentive and unobtrusive. The food is exceptional. Cannot fault them ans, highly recommended.

Probably in my top 5 restaurants in London: amazing food almost up to the standard of a Michelin star restaurant in a super cool environment, with great service, interesting wines and…it’s cheap for what it is. Really well done to the team behind this restaurant.
