On an unusually hot Spring evening, Soho was its usual exciting chaotic self. Walking in to L'Escargot is like walking into the First Class lounge at a busy airport. The smartly dressed staff smile and are welcoming. The lighting is subdued - and the air conditioning works! We went for the "pre-theatre" dinner. It is an absolute bargain, but (if you want to) you can easily ramp up the price by ordering a few treats. The whole meal was excellent. Of special note is the bread (£5). There were 4 different breads. An authentic flute reminiscent of Paris was overshadowed by something that resembled a Danish pastry. I was intrigued, bit into it, and the part that looked as though it might be sweet was actually parmesan and truffle. I usually avoid both these ingredients, but together, in some very clever bread they were delicious! Instead of the usual, boring, "brewed in the UK" bottled beers there was Noam. It tastes as good as it looks (the bottles are works of art) and is brewed in Bavaria. We hadn't been to L'Escargot for a few years - but we will be coming back very soon.

A great place - truly a piece of Paris in London. The food is fabulous and most of all the staff are incredible professional and kind. The atmosphere is nice and elegant. The wine collection is phenomenal, a reason to visit on its own. We only had ‘snacks’ and wine, and wish to have had more. The truffle and pecorino nuts are recommended

As a French person living in England, this restaurant was really good. From the first bite to the last, the quality was great, easily comparable to some of the restaurants back home in France. The service was amazing and the staff so friendly. Pleasantly surprised with the pricing. For this level of quality and attention to detail, I found the prices very reasonable.

@lescargotsoho is the oldest French restaurant in London, and the vibes really showed it. Service was super friendly (thanks to the waiter who tried to take really nice photos of us) and we had a pleasant time. Of course the escargots were my absolute favorite and is a must order. The other dishes were alright and didn’t particularly stand out. Linguine was good but the risotto was unfortunately too salty so I couldn’t finish the whole thing.

L'Escargot, a Soho institution, provided the perfect setting for a delightful Sunday lunch with my partner. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable – attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced. My meal began with the crab mayonnaise, a delicate blend of sweet crab and tangy pickled cucumber, a refreshing start. The roast rib of 28-day aged Scotch beef was the highlight, a truly magnificent cut cooked to a perfect medium-rare; the meat was meltingly tender and full of flavour. The accompanying Yorkshire pudding was crisp and light, and the horseradish sauce added a welcome kick. Throughout the meal, we enjoyed selections from L'Escargot's magnificent wine and champagne menu, each pairing perfectly with our chosen dishes. Finally, the soufflé au chocolat, a 20-minute wait well worth it, was a rich and decadent delight, the perfect ending to a classic meal. L'Escargot delivers a refined and consistently excellent dining experience, making it an ideal choice for a special occasion or a simply enjoyable Sunday lunch with someone special.

Wow! What a fantastic Sunday lunch! The menu was packed with tempting choices, making it hard to decide. We went for the three courses for £45, and it was worth every penny. The crab starter was just amazing – so fresh and delicious! And the terrine? Bursting with flavour! The rib of beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, cooked absolutely perfectly. The service was spot-on, really friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a stunning art collection and lovely fresh flowers on every table. But the desserts! The soufflé was a showstopper – perfectly cooked and that hot chocolate sauce was divine! My guest was raving about his homemade lemon curd ice cream too. Honestly, I don't think you could find a better Sunday lunch anywhere.

I had another superb meal at L'Escargot last week, made even better by dining with some particularly fine, erudite and sporting company. In a city so often consumed by the hottest new restaurants or must-try cuisine, L'Escargot is much like its namesake: always moving resolutely ahead, confident in its abilities and untroubled by the fuss that surrounds it. I didn't even have to ask for my wine glass to be topped up either – great service! Thanks L'Escargot staff, hope to be back again this year.

I booked a table in January for my husband's birthday and we had an excellent evening. The ambience was excellent; although the room was full, the restaurant did not feel too loud at all, while we enjoyed the decor. The staff were very attentive throughout and surprised my husband with a birthday treat. We ate three courses (smoked salmon and langoustine bisque to start; duck confit and mushroom linguine for main; crème brulee as a shared desert) and it was all delicious. The wine list was very extensive and not unreasonably priced. We shared a bottle of Chardonnay. The restaurant permits dogs and we enjoyed getting to know the pets of the table next to ours as we waited for the bill. Overall, a fantastic experience marred only slightly by the very warm fire behind my chair, which meant I was slightly overheated by the end of the evening.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An easy 5 star sweep across the board for Brian Clivas’s Soho institution L’Escargot. Delightful service and delicious French food served in a warm, beautifully inviting setting nestled in the beating heart of Soho’s Greek Street. At the time of writing there is an excellent value lunch menu at £20 for two courses and £25 for three. It doesn’t get better in Central London. This is somewhere you’ll want to revisit time and time again. Bonus that it’s dog friendly! Food: French What I liked: • Top notch Service • Stunning interior • Perfectly portioned, beautifully presented food • Great price point What I didn’t like: • N/A Do I recommend going? Haven’t been here for years and was quite excited having had good memories. Hadn’t bothered looking at the menu beforehand as we both like our food. The menu was a little disappointing; starters were all just a little boring. She choose the lobster bisque which had a depth and complexity but she found sickly with too much cream. Main courses were similar - mostly red meat or cream based dishes. She went for the risotto but just too creamy / buttery and left it. I had a perfectly pleasant but unexciting g beetroot starter and confit duck. Which was excellent. Adequate wine menu. Didn’t do pudding. Not quite as good as I remembered. £200 for 2 with a single glass of champagne and a nice Bordeaux.

Stunning legend from 1927. I have not been for 30 years. Initial welcome (they were busy) a shambles as shown to a table for 5 not 6 as booked. But thereafter, staff were excellent. Lots of staple classic fayre - superbly cooked and presented. Wines were well chosen options. We enjoyed the legendary Tournedos Rossini - just succulent - and Châteaubriand, Duck, Chicken. Etc. Escargots of course. All very well done, and tasty. Cheese was nice, if a modest morsel. It's expensive, but is Central Soho. A lot of boorish, boyish, braying other guests - the sort of oiks, or orcs, one finds these days regretfully. A special meal for a special occasion. Bravo!

As we were in London for Mum’s birthday to see Les Mis, I thought we’d stick to the French theme and treat her to lunch at L’Escargot. One of my better decisions! From the welcome when you arrive, to the beautifully classic decor, to the delicious food, it really is a special place. We started with the obligatory birthday bubbles and then moved on to the very reasonable prix fixe menu. Amazing French onion soup followed by perfectly cooked salmon for me, and Mum was very happy with her charcuterie plate and mushroom risotto. The service was impeccable and the icing on the cake was the complimentary plate of chocolate snails complete with birthday candle and handwritten postcard. I can see why it’s survived for so long. Having been recently for a lovely business lunch, decided to go for dinner with my partner. This experience wasn't quite as good as the welcome was indifferent and the table I'd specifically requested and had confirmed, was given to someone else. They offered us two alternative tables but both were in a different section so defeated the object somewhat. Food from set menu was excellent and very good acoustics despite the noisy table next to us. Lovely old fashioned dining room appeals and I'll be back....but not rushing.

I visited with friends for an early dinner on Friday. I had the onion soup and the duck. While the soup was fine, the duck was quite dry, but I ate it as I was hungry. Unfortunately, this led to a weekend of feeling extremely unwell—nausea, tiredness, and ultimately food poisoning. When my friend reached out via email, we received a rather unfriendly response, which you can see in the comments here. While the interior of the restaurant is beautiful, I didn’t feel that the food matched the price. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I will not be returning.

I had dinner for 3 here at the recommendation of a friend and was severely disappointed for the price paid. The service was some of the worst I’ve ever had in any dine in restaurant. While we were seated fairly promptly, it was almost as though we had been forgotten shortly after that. We would see our waiter fairly infrequently and our simple requests, like water for the table, were misunderstood or flat out ignored/forgotten more often than not. The men’s restroom was out of paper towels both times I checked even after alerting the staff of the issue. At the end of our meal our waiter had completely disappeared and we had to grab the attention of someone else to handle our table after ~20 min of waiting. The slap in the face was receiving a forced 15% gratuity at the end of the meal on top of our cost despite service nowhere near warranting it. (And I’m already from the US where that is largely expected) All of this would’ve been the worst part of the experience had I not woken up in the middle of the night to food poisoning. I had to delay all my plans and have a doctor visit me in the hotel since I could barely stand for two days straight. Given everything I had eaten that day, and what my friends had also eaten and not gotten sick, the doctor deduced the pheasant I ate here was the only contender for something this bad and started me on antibiotics that have helped me recover over the past few days. I cannot recommend this restaurant in the slightest.

Decent French restaurant in London, but overall, not worth the hype or the price. We started with half a dozen escargot, which were fine but nothing memorable. For mains, we had the duck confit and the filet with foie gras. Unfortunately, the duck tasted a bit off, and while the filet was okay, it didn’t stand out. The service was average at best—neither attentive nor particularly friendly. For the price they charge, we expected much better quality and experience. Sadly, it fell short. Wouldn’t recommend.

Had pre theatre menu, very good value and tasty. We had duck and it was wonderful, the onion soup was tasty, but very hot! Lovely decor and tables spread outside that you are not sat too close to your neighbours. There is a time limit, but it was more than adequate as the service was very good and we never felt rushed. In fact all the staff were very attentive and very polite. I liked that I was able to hold a conversation as there was only quite background music. The ladies toilets are upstairs but I was assured if I returned with my friend who has mobility issues that they can use the toilet (gents) on ground floor and staff would ensure that no men would walk in. We told the waiter we had to rush , which we did at 7:14, he stuffed half of one soufflé into a plastic container with no spoons and a paper bag and we had to run to be on time for our play. The restaurant manager (the man in the suit, I assume) and the receptionist had a rude attitude toward my table, showing impatience and a dismissive tone that was noticeably different from how they treated other guests. While the waitstaff were nice and polite, that was the only aspect I appreciated. (5 stars for them) As an asian diner, I didn’t feel comfortable dining here, I couldn’t enjoy the food and just wanted to leave as soon as possible.

Came here for dinner to catch up with some friends, had a wonderful time! Portions were filling, service was great, beautiful atmosphere. Recommend the escargots, French onion soup, and the Toulouse sausage. It seems like if you want to dine after 6 pm you have to book some weeks in advance. I will definitely be back for my birthday soon if I can get a reservation a little later in the evening!

We celebrated my mum's 70th birthday here - a special choice as her parents came here for dates in the 60s, and it turns out their parents did as well! It feels like nowhere else in London - full of history, art and atmosphere, grand but with a welcoming home-like feel to it. The staff were lovely and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Snails converted us all! This gem has a life of its own and we'll definitely be back (and hope our children will too ;)

Cosy, well decorated French restaurant in the heart of Soho. I went for a Sunday lunch which was lovely. The portions were generous and the staff friendly. The highlight was the fruit tart with cream dessert. Recommended

I thought hard whether this should be a 4 or 5. On the positive side, the decor was great, our waiter was responsive, they took allergy issues very seriously and the ambiance was nice. However there were a couple of errors on our order and the food was nothing special, with only a medium quality-price-ratio. Service was also not very quick albeit for a dinner this wasn’t such a problem but I don’t think I’d have time to go there for lunch.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had a lovely evening! The interiors are super swanky, the staff were so welcoming and attentive, and the food was 10/10. Our only problem was that we’d over ordered so were stuffed to the brim by the time the mains arrived. The lobster bisque and chicken parfait were THE best I’ve ever had. So flavoursome and delicious. The lamb main was amazing but the ribeye didn’t seem very high quality. Overall - will be back for more tasty French food!

The restaurant itself was very pretty and cosy, but the atmosphere was sadly disrupted by: 1. The cheap rechargeable table lamps from Amazon – they should replace those with beautiful candles, as they used to do. 2. The music playlist also felt off; modern commercial tunes instead of a selection of classic French songs from the early to mid-20th century would better suit the ambiance. As for the starters, the £££ bread selection didn't feel fresh at all, dry and hard; The onion soup was good; The salad with melon had unripe, hard melon and an overly salty seasoning, which wasn’t to my taste. The main course, a pea risotto, was excellent. We didn't have dessert as we were full. A big, BIG, "no-no" was being served a hot bottle of sparkling water on a warm summer evening. Please keep them refrigerated!!! The staff was incredibly kind, especially the dark skinned French lady with a captivating grace. It was a birthday dinner, and they surprised us with a small plate with a "Happy Birthday" message and a snail-shaped chocolates, which were one of the most delicious chocolates I've had! In terms of food quality, I excepted more from this restaurant. I think the change of ownership affected the core of the place and with it it's quality.

It you like traditional French cooking, this SoHo mainstay is still Five-Star. Food is fabulous and Aurora our server was cheerful and helpful. Move it to the upper section of your list of preferred restaurants.

Came here for my birthday dinner and the whole experience was fantastic. The decor, the customer service and the food... all of it. The classic French onion soup lived up to its name and expectation. We were too full for dessert but as it was my birthday, the waiter brought out a lovely birthday surprise - a candle with handmade dark chocolate from the chefs - delicious! Will definitely return!

lovely quirky french restaurant in the heart of Soho. It really stands out in frantic Greek Street with its traditional but bold decor. We had the pre-theatre meal, goat cheese tart and entrecote steak for mains. Both were delicious. The cocktails were delicious, and service was attentive and friendly.

We have been to L’Escargot a handful of times over the past few years and it has always, up until now, been special. Unfortunately, the restaurant has lost its je ne sais quoi. The food is still good, but the service and general ambience have shifted towards the unremarkable and at times below par. There were specific issues which resolved themselves during our meal (eg long wait for wine, coffee unavailable at the end of the meal, sparkling water not refrigerated), but it was the general sense that something had changed. The soul of the restaurant had left the building. A quick google search triggered by the odd inclusion of a German dessert on the menu and the unavailability of French fries (only thick English style chips which, by the way, are cooked far better in the majority of ubiquitous gastropubs across London) revealed that the restaurant was taken over by Thomas Hitzlsperger, an ex-German professional footballer with a keen interest in economics and finance. I don’t know if this is the reason that the execution was flat, why everything felt a little 4 star with corners being visibly cut, but it could well be. It’s a real pity, but it’s unfortunately (another) one of those London institutions that isn’t quite what it used to be. Would no longer recommend.

L'Escargot is the place to visit for a treat. The welcome by the hostess was amicable. The layout is separate dining areas throughout which gave the feeling of intimacy. Felt a little like stepping back in time, reminiscent of Hercule Poirot. We chose Duck Terrine, which was beautifully presented and flavourful and the Lobster salad as starters. Again an excellent presentation but at £29 it seemed excessively pricey for a bowl of lettuce leaves with a few pieces of lobster. I somehow expected more. The citrus dressing was tasty, but not enough of it for my liking. We drank the 312 St-Emillon Grand Cru, an excellent full-body red wine. For mains, we had Leaf salad, very well presented but again, lacked flavour. The Poached Sea Trout, which was utterly delicious, and the Navarin D'Agneau, also very good. We opted not to have dessert and were treated to "snail" chocolates. A sweet gesture and delicious too. The meal, in general, was very nice, and the restaurant had a lovely ambience. Picture crisp white linen tablecloths, deep red velvet chairs and silver cutlery. Special mention must be given to the service by our waitress Aurora, she was truly delightful. This place is worth a visit, particularly if you want to impress a date or important client.

It was hands down the best corporate dining experience I've had in London. Firstly, Brian (the private dining reservation manager) was a dream to work with to book my private room customer lunch, he was responsive, flexible and went up and beyond to make a custom menu for us! We got the Green room private dining room, it looked like a grand royal ballroom! The ambiance, food, server were all perfect. L'Escargot will be my go-to restaurant to host my customer meals from now on!

The service is impeccable and the venue is very photogenic. However, the crab linguine was soso (i think there was lemon grass in it? not entirely sure) because the herb smell was strong. The duck confit wasn’t that special either. The set menu is a better choice than the a la carte.

Very attentive, friendly service. Lobster salad seemed lacking dressing and flavours as a result. Goat cheese salad was excellent. Lamb was slow cooked to perfection, while the beef and spinach were OK but nothing special. Creme brulee was great to finish. All in all a perfectly good meal, but not great nor justifying the price.

The food was a real delight, with the freshly cooked grilled halibut, Hollandaise sauce, and the tournedos of beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce being particularly delicious. A special mention goes to the succulent soufflé au chocolat. However, it’s unfortunate that the tables are placed so close together, which significantly detracted from the experience. The atmosphere was ruined by five very loud, overly animated women and one man setting nearby. It would have been much better if we had been seated in the second room, which was completely empty.

Had a great pint at the windsor, really solid pour. Beer came with a perfect head, served cold, and tasted fresh. You can tell they take care of their lines. Nice, consistent pour every time I’ve been. Good spot if you appreciate a properly poured pint.

Excellent little corner pub in central Soho. Small inside, and many drink outside in good weather. Had very good pint of Titanic Plum Porter. Of course, it's not a cheap location. Recommended
