We went here for dinner before going to the theater. We were greeted very friendly at the door and escorted to the table. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the food is really good! I had the oysters as a starter, I can definitely recommend them! If you're in London, I would definitely book a table if I were you!

Had pre theatre menu, very good value and tasty. We had duck and it was wonderful, the onion soup was tasty, but very hot! Lovely decor and tables spread outside that you are not sat too close to your neighbours. There is a time limit, but it was more than adequate as the service was very good and we never felt rushed. In fact all the staff were very attentive and very polite. I liked that I was able to hold a conversation as there was only quite background music. The ladies toilets are upstairs but I was assured if I returned with my friend who has mobility issues that they can use the toilet (gents) on ground floor and staff would ensure that no men would walk in. I will most definitely be back.

Been here several times and it never fails to impress. A gorgeous dining experience, wonderful cuisine, attentive service. When I got home I noticed a couple of mistakes on my bill... called restaurant immediately and David sorted out everything professionally, kindly and without delay, even phoning me to confirm the refund. So refreshing to be treated this way when shoddy customer service is so prevalent elsewhere. Love this place!

We arrived @5:50, with plenty of time to make it to a 7:30 show. The waiter said “ don’t worry” we have plenty of time. We had a wonderful meal and good relaxing conversation. Before we even finished our meal, we ordered our deserts (2 chocolate soufflés and a crème broulet )in order to be sure we had plenty of time to make our show. The waiter reassured us we would have no problem. We told the waiter we had to rush , which we did at 7:14, he stuffed half of one soufflé into a plastic container with no spoons and a paper bag and we had to run to be on time for our play. We were never served our 2nd souffle. What a terrible experience. I called the owner who offered us our souffle and a glass of Champaign. No thank you. Never again. Wen and Chet Atkins/ USA

Tonight's visit to l'Escargot made me fall in love with French dining again. Wonderful decor, a relaxed atmosphere, a perfectly executed menu and attentive service made for a great experience. Our waiter went above and beyond to talk us through the wines and was observant enough to hear us congratulating our son on his graduation (the reason we were there). He brought us a great plate of celebratory chocolates to round off our meal - such a lovely touch! There are good reasons why this place is an institution. A wonderful evening - thank you.

My overall dinner experience was disappointing. The restaurant manager (the man in the suit, I assume) and the receptionist had a rude attitude toward my table, showing impatience and a dismissive tone that was noticeably different from how they treated other guests. While the waitstaff were nice and polite, that was the only aspect I appreciated. (5 stars for them) As an asian diner, I didn’t feel comfortable dining here, I couldn’t enjoy the food and just wanted to leave as soon as possible.

I thought hard whether this should be a 4 or 5. On the positive side, the decor was great, our waiter was responsive, they took allergy issues very seriously and the ambiance was nice. However there were a couple of errors on our order and the food was nothing special, with only a medium quality-price-ratio. Service was also not very quick albeit for a dinner this wasn’t such a problem but I don’t think I’d have time to go there for lunch.

Our only problem was that we’d over ordered so were stuffed to the brim by the time the mains arrived. The lobster bisque and chicken parfait were THE best I’ve ever had. So flavoursome and delicious. The lamb main was amazing but the ribeye didn’t seem very high quality. Overall - will be back for more tasty French food!

The restaurant itself was very pretty and cosy, but the atmosphere was sadly disrupted by: 1. The cheap rechargeable table lamps from Amazon – they should replace those with beautiful candles, as they used to do. 2. The music playlist also felt off; modern commercial tunes instead of a selection of classic French songs from the early to mid-20th century would better suit the ambiance. As for the starters, the £££ bread selection didn't feel fresh at all, dry and hard; The onion soup was good; The salad with melon had unripe, hard melon and an overly salty seasoning, which wasn’t to my taste. The main course, a pea risotto, was excellent. We didn't have dessert as we were full. A big, BIG, "no-no" was being served a hot bottle of sparkling water on a warm summer evening. Please keep them refrigerated!!! The staff was incredibly kind, especially the dark skinned French lady with a captivating grace. It was a birthday dinner, and they surprised us with a small plate with a "Happy Birthday" message and a snail-shaped chocolates, which were one of the most delicious chocolates I've had! In terms of food quality, I excepted more from this restaurant. I think the change of ownership affected the core of the place and with it it's quality.

We have been to L’Escargot a handful of times over the past few years and it has always, up until now, been special. Unfortunately, the restaurant has lost its je ne sais quoi. The food is still good, but the service and general ambience have shifted towards the unremarkable and at times below par. There were specific issues which resolved themselves during our meal (eg long wait for wine, coffee unavailable at the end of the meal, sparkling water not refrigerated), but it was the general sense that something had changed. The soul of the restaurant had left the building. A quick google search triggered by the odd inclusion of a German dessert on the menu and the unavailability of French fries (only thick English style chips which, by the way, are cooked far better in the majority of ubiquitous gastropubs across London) revealed that the restaurant was taken over by Thomas Hitzlsperger, an ex-German professional footballer with a keen interest in economics and finance. I don’t know if this is the reason that the execution was flat, why everything felt a little 4 star with corners being visibly cut, but it could well be. It’s a real pity, but it’s unfortunately (another) one of those London institutions that isn’t quite what it used to be. Would no longer recommend.

L'Escargot is the place to visit for a treat. The welcome by the hostess was amicable. The layout is separate dining areas throughout which gave the feeling of intimacy. Felt a little like stepping back in time, reminiscent of Hercule Poirot. We chose Duck Terrine, which was beautifully presented and flavourful and the Lobster salad as starters. Again an excellent presentation but at £29 it seemed excessively pricey for a bowl of lettuce leaves with a few pieces of lobster. I somehow expected more. The citrus dressing was tasty, but not enough of it for my liking. We drank the 312 St-Emillon Grand Cru, an excellent full-body red wine. For mains, we had Leaf salad, very well presented but again, lacked flavour. The Poached Sea Trout, which was utterly delicious, and the Navarin D'Agneau, also very good. We opted not to have dessert and were treated to "snail" chocolates. A sweet gesture and delicious too. The meal, in general, was very nice, and the restaurant had a lovely ambience. Picture crisp white linen tablecloths, deep red velvet chairs and silver cutlery. Special mention must be given to the service by our waitress Aurora, she was truly delightful. This place is worth a visit, particularly if you want to impress a date or important client.

The food was a real delight, with the freshly cooked grilled halibut, Hollandaise sauce, and the tournedos of beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce being particularly delicious. A special mention goes to the succulent soufflé au chocolat. However, it’s unfortunate that the tables are placed so close together, which significantly detracted from the experience. The atmosphere was ruined by five very loud, overly animated women and one man setting nearby. It would have been much better if we had been seated in the second room, which was completely empty.

Without a doubt, one of my favourite restaurants in London. And because of this I’m willing to overlook the appalling service which came courtesy of a waiter who looked so depressed we were forced to ask him what was wrong, to which he informed us he had had a long day. Having worked my way up from dish washer to silver service waiter, so designing and reviewing restaurants, bars and hotels, I know it can be a gruelling job. However I also know that patrons don’t care if you have blisters when they’re shelling out over £150 per head. Service aside, the food was exemplary. The onion soup starter was just as I remembered it from my many trips to Paris, though it came out so hot that I was unable to eat it for at least 10 minutes as it cooled. The portions were generous, and our table in the farthest corner of the room gave us a wonderful view of the entire, historic space creating a wonderfully exuberant atmosphere that I was loathed to leave behind.

Only stopped by at L'Escargot as we were intrigued by the Grand Marnier soufflé. This review will thus only refer to this dish. The previous month we had an authentic Grand Marnier soufflé on a trip to France which led to comparisons and high expectations for the current experience. Unfortunately the soufflé let us down as it appeared to be overcooked, tasting bland at first, then the cooked egg flavour became unpleasantly overwhelming. The soufflé itself comes with a Grand Marnier sauce on the side, this being a step down from it being cooked within the soufflé which would have given it a nice citrus flavour. As we find ourselves to be enthusiastic soufflé enjoyers, we mentioned our suggestions to the servers which were more than pleasant and helpful throughout the evening.

We had to go downstairs to order our drinks and wait for ages to have them bought up. At 3:10 I asked why our table was taking so long, then the waiter says our table is ready. So had I not asked, would we still be waiting? We then get sat down and the waiters practically throw the menus and say we need to order as the kitchen is about to close. Ridiculous since we’ve waited 40 minutes for our table. We were rushed the whole time and couldn’t even finish our sentences before the waiter walked away. Experience ruined and disorganised.

First impression was solid, however despite the average food and rather inattentive staff one last mishap stood out especially unwell to us. We had booked a table over dinner and upon arriving we were told we had to wait as they weren’t ready yet. The nice lady at the entrance offered us a cremant due to the inconvenience and were told this was „on the house“ - however in the end they ended up charging it to our bill…. We only caught it a day later and even though it is only regarding a small amount, less than £20, we are very unhappy about them offering drinks on their account but eventually letting their customers pay…this is either a very untrue and rude customer service or a function of uninterested and not well trained staff….I am hoping for some statement of the restaurant to at least understand how that happened on Wednesday…

Great restaurant with awsome staff. Tried snails for the first time too. The only thing that took away a star for me was the limited menu.

We arranged a private dinner for a birthday celebration in the Salon Bleu (Blue Room) at L'Escargot. Mattia was very helpful and responsive in making the arrangements. On the night, we were very well looked after by our waiter Hugo, the room was lovely and the food was delicious (everyone very much enjoyed their meals)! The creme brulee was perfect! I would definitely go back. They even had a live pianist in their bar area which was a lovely bonus after finishing our meal. Thank you L'Escargot!

Escargots were great. The sauce paired nicely with the bread. Soups were superb. The duck and the beef were alright.

Blew me away. Traditional food made superbly - way above expectation. Fantastic service as well. Hugo was great. Above all, they had proper quantities. I was actually full!!!

Everything was just glorious about L'Escargot - the food, the service, the welcome, the decor. This place very much should go on your to-do list.

The quality is there, good welcome, the prices are in order for this type of establishment. A cuisine that aims to be French but with some subtle adaptations for the English public.

Amazing decorations Amazing food Professional and helpful staff Highly recommend it, specially for special occasions. I had the wild mushroom risotto and my friends tried duck and steak! We all loved what we had. Oh, also the French onion soup which was the cherry on top

An amazing restaurant that has stood the test of time, it’s over 100 years old! Ordering the snails is a must. Find classical French cooking at this place, in a comfortable setting, where it’s easy to catch up with friends and family. There is bag and coat storage at reception. Ladies toilets are on the upper floor, whereas the men’s toilets are on the ground floor… For any of you on wheels. Excellent service, with kind staff. Shout out to the person who took my reservation via the phone, I really appreciate that they made a few jokes with me in a good natured way.

We had the pre-theatre menu so accepted there would not be much choice. Food was very good, staff attentive, pretty little restaurant and we got to the theatre in time!

Excellent, we will go back again very soon. I've been eating at this lovely Brasserie for 30 or more years and it never disappoints. We had their pre- theatre dinner menu priced at £28 per head for 2 courses. We had the most delicious mushroom risotto and confit of duck which was divine. Dessert was a fab lemon tart. Delightful 😊

Wonderful evening. The service is perfectly balanced between friendly and formal. The food is classic French. No surprises but very well executed. It's both part of Soho and an escape from it.

Food was okay, very oily and salty though. The chocolate souffle tasted like plastic. Did not appreciate the "sleight of hand" from one of the waiters. After we placed our order he came up and offered a basket of bread and gave us the impression that it was on the house and never told us otherwise. We only realised we were charged for it when we were paying the bill. For such a reputable place, such acts should be transparent.

This venue is a sheer delight, boasting stunning and character-filled decor. The service staff were both amiable and professional, enhancing the overall experience. The cuisine was sumptuous and decadent, making it an ideal choice for a special occasion. Our selection included lobster bisque, De Foie Gras terrine, steak, and duck confit, all perfectly complemented by a superb bottle of chateau. However, the true highlight for me was the rhetorical escargot with its delightful butter sauce—so irresistible, I could have savored it with an entire loaf of bread. Truly an exquisite experience. Thank you 🙏🏼

I have been to afternoon tea many times around the various haunts in London. The newest addition being at L' Escargot. This is my second visit with a friend and I can say it was again delicious. We started our afternoon with a glass of fresh, crisp Cremant, the understated but brilliant and brighter cousin of Champagne. We enjoyed it so much, we order another round. Which was followed by tea. The tea is Mariage Freres, on both occasions I opted for the French Breakfast which has a slight malty undertone that compliments the food. The sandwiches are made fresh, with the softest bread and spread with rich, tasty butter. The selection was traditional cucumber, smoked salmon, egg and cress with a seasonal turkey sandwich. All delicate, all delicious. The scones, warm and crumbly and the cakes have the right level of sweetness. On my most recent visit, we had an eclair, a small cake and a luxurious meringue. Now the staff, well, I cannot say how wonderful and accommodating they are on both visits. The restaurant is very welcoming to dog owners, however my guest is allergic to them, so without hesitation or fuss, they moved us swiftly, giving us a choice of different tables. Afternoon tea is a hidden gem in the middle of Soho and at a very reasonable price of £48 (in December 2023). Very much looking forward to a visit again soon!

wonderful environment, very attentive staff, present but not intrusive. they reported my gluten intolerance in the kitchen and sent me some excellent warm gluten-free bread accompanied with delicious butter! the waiters were very attentive in telling me which dishes were gluten free or in reporting any contamination. the meat tartare and truffle potatoes are highly recommended!

I have now been twice, once for dinner, once for lunch. The food, as others have noted, is superb and the philosophy behind the place seems to work. Relaxed, cultured but unstuffy, friendly, modern. The venue helps. The staff seemed unstressed. I like their approach to ingredients and reducing wastefulness, it seems to work for everyone and isn't just some gimmick they pay lip service to. Not a pricey as it could have been, I think their fixed standard menus are great value. Wine list is fair with a good selection and isn't the usual gouge pricing. I think I'll be going again if I can find an excuse to be in the area. That it was pretty full on a Tuesday lunchtime in November tells you something.
