Great riverside views here. Lovely for chilling. But very weird service, erratic, seems chaotic. There is a bell you have to ring if you want to be served which we thought was comical. To be fair it’s in the middle of nowhere so can’t be that surprised really. Worth a visit in the summer.

We visited today en route to a local holiday cabin … as we had our dog with us we had called ahead and were advised we were welcome in the Top Bar … what an isolated room !!! Service was fine if you rang a bell !! Very expensive wine £9.50 a large Zinfandel to sit in a room on your own, I visited the ladies and found I was overlooked by the car park !!! NEVER again , another couple arrived also with a dog and walked out as fed up with waiting to be served … they had rung the BELL twice

We were recently on a short break with our family near Ludlow and visited the Lion a couple of times for dinner and Sunday lunch. There was six of us including two young children under five and our two dogs. We dined in the dog friendly ‘top bar’. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious, especially the Sunday lunch. They also have a good children’s menu. I would highly recommend the Lion but do you need to book as it’s very popular.

I don't usually write reviews when dining out, but my families visit today was not a good experience. We had booked our table for a birthday treat and this was explained during the online booking. On entering the restaurant we could see that there were two large parties being catered for and we were shown upstairs to our table. We ordered drinks and waited for our order to be taken for our meals. Another table arrived and their orders for food and drinks were taken while we were waiting. Our food order was eventually taken and we waited an hour for our food to arrive. The plates and food were not hot , and there were no waiting staff to ask for assistance. When a waitress did arrive to apologise to another table for their wait for puddings and orders we were given some menus to order our puddings, but noone returned. We eventually gave up waiting and went to pay for our bill. We were met downstairs by diners who were searching for waiting staff as they had missed a meal from one of their group, clearly our group wasn't the only table with problems. We had waited two hours and received no apology, warm food, poor service and sadly I don't think we will be going back.

Beautiful restaurant , tastefully decorated and offering a warm welcome. Service was friendly and welcoming. The menu offered other options to the Sunday roast, I chose the roast which was delicious. The beef was tender and the plate was nut swamped with too many vegetables!

Had two meals here and was lucky enough to sit outside overlooking the river for both. Recommend booking as it gets very busy, and rightly so as the food was lovely. The first meal we had all of our group ate every last scrap. The waitresses were confident and seemed on the ball. We went inside to settle the bill at the bar - found that a quicker way to do this. Overall, recommend for a nice relaxing meal.

Fantastic location right by the river you can watch the world go by. Lovely place to dip your toes in the water or to enjoy a nice refreshing drink. Unfortunately our meals were awful all round. The staff were young and clueless and obviously could not care less. Hopeless! Worth a visit for the river views but the food and service is terrible.

Lovely food and in the beginning good service However as the evening went on all the staff except for the barmsid seemed to disappear. After our sweet we were not offered anymore drinks or coffee all of which we would have had and I had to ask the barmaid twice for the bill ,she was busy serving customers who had just come in for drinks .I could see she was under pressure but no one else about until someone eventually bought us the bill frustrating end to a good night .¹

We visited the Lion today for an outdoor live music event. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great so was initially concerned it may be a wash out. I couldn’t have be more wrong. The staff were all so welcoming and happy , the location was stunning by the river, the live music was provided by local talent who were amazing. There was plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas (kindly provided to shield us from the rain). There was a lovely warm, family atmosphere which made the day so relaxing. The funky outdoor bar provided drinks and freshly cooked pizzas. There was a great selection of drinks on tap too. A great afternoon had by all. Thank you to all of the staff for making it such a lovely day. We will definitely be returning. 😊

I’ve called to ask if we can have breakfast and if dogs are allowed. Then without asking my question the girl on the phone jumped by asking what time I would like to come, I said in about 40 minutes. It was a bit too late for breakfast and I said it’s fine we will have lunch, just to tell me they’re are fully booked because of Mother’s Day. I just managed to say “oh yes, I didn’t take that in consideration”, then she put down the phone without saying anything else. Her voice was a bit rude since the first few words out of her mouth. What they claim to be friendly and informal and make their guests feel comfortable has nothing to do with the reality in my own experience. I’ve been a receptionist in my early 20’s and what I know and learned is you are representing the face of the business, you make the first impression! Train your staff!

Popped in on the off chance today that the pub would be serving food. Hadn't booked but warmly welcomed by friendly staff and sat down to a really lovely lunch. I had the open steak sandwich with skinny fries and coleslaw which was absolutely gorgeous - tender rump steak topped with little caramelised onions, shaves of parmesan & a lovely mustard dressing. My partner had the fish & chips which looked scrumptious, so of course I had to have a taste.....battered hake cooked to perfection with scrummy triple cooked chips. The best piece of fish I've tasted for a very long time. The quality of the food was fantastic but obviously cooked by an exceptional chef. Thank you, it was lovely and we're looking forward to coming back very soon!

What a find yesterday! We hadn’t booked but found the Lion en route home from Ludlow to Cheshire. We were shown to a lovely window seat upstairs where the sun streamed in & the river Teme was in full flow under the ancient bridge. The food was first class as was the smiling service we received from all staff members. Will make this a regular stop… just idyllic, Sherry & Mick

One main course was inedible. I was surprised the waiting staff didn't ask what was wrong when they took a whole plate of uneaten food back to the kitchen. Sweet potato curry had no taste except for tinned tomatoes. The potatoes were rock hard cardamon rice has whole pods of cardamon left in. Pastry on the dessert was solid, wet and lardy. The waiter I complained to was a schoolboy and was telling me how his school had gone down since the new head was engaged. The young lad clearly wasn't interested in our meal. This was not only Valentine's day but also my husband's birthday. Our disappointment was somewhat mitigated by the manager refunding us the cost of my msin course. Would not recommend for an evening meal.

The service at The Lion was excellent. All staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. We were eating with three children and were not made to feel like this was a problem (my baby makes a mess!). The food was excellent - my only gripe were the fries with my burger. I would have preferred proper chips (to be fair, the menu does say fries) and they came luke warm and were a bit tasteless. The venison meatballs were great and the mustard sausages a lovely nibbly starter. My wife's turkey dinner was of generous size. Kids meals were good quality and decent value. The service from the young team was excellent. One slight gripe is that there were a couple of lads in there, at the bar, enjoying a Christmas drink. Us and several other tables were sat eating in the small bar area. These lads (hi vis stuff, just finished for Xmas probably) were enjoying a few pints and shorts and their language was not what I want my 5 and 7 yr old to hear. We all had a right to be using the pub but perhaps mixing diners in the bar area might not always work? Just an observation really.

Delicious evening meal and wonderful full English for breakfast the following morning. The meal, even by August 2022 standards, was terrific value for money. If the Luon can do it why can't others ? Highly recommended and will definitely return.

We visited on a Sunday and booked a table outside. We arrived and were greeted by Summer. We were seated at a lovely table outside as requested. 2 of us had roast dinners, 2 had fresh pizzas and 1 had fish and chips. We also ordered a few staters to share as the menu sounded so delicious. Starters were: grilled chorizo, chilli buttered prawns and smoked salmon. Absolutely everything we ordered was outstanding. We would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant. Beautiful location too. Compliments to the chef and a big thank you to Summer, who was amazing and nothing too much problem, and to all the hard working staff. It was busy but not crowded and the service and food excellent.

Overall we enjoyed our Sunday lunch here. Firstly the parking is crazy! Car park full, roadside parking full. It was difficult finding a good, safe place to park. The staff friendly and worked hard. We had about 6 different staff attend our table at one time or another and yet we had to ask twice for a jug of water!! The roast was average, beef slightly overdone and a good variety of veg. Puddings good. We had a few flies constantly annoying us and not sure why? Would like to visit and sit in the garden next time.

A table of 2 was booked online for our young couple for Valentine’s at 6.15pm. On arrival a chap greeted our young couple and stated they only had an hour for a 3 course dinner, I fail to see how this can be achieved! I, as an adult challenged this and the response I got was extremely unprofessional and unpleasant. On the time of booking this was not in the confirmation email! To which I showed the server. The chap was rude and belligerent! Complete lack of customer service that I have never come across before! It’s now very clear why this establishment is generally quiet! I cannot comment on the food as I didn’t eat on this occasion but will never book again and I didn’t even get through the door!!!
