We visited this restaurant last Saturday. We arrived around 8.15 without a booking but they asked if we could come back at 9pm & they would have a table for us. So glad we went back as food & staff are amazing! We both chose off the set menu. Three courses for £24.95. Outstanding value for money as all courses were delicious. We both had creamy garlic mushrooms to start which was served with lovely thick bread followed by sirloin steaks which were cooked to perfection. This came with a selection of potatoes ( I chose garlic potatoes & my partner had chips). There was also salad & mushrooms on our plates & a separate dish of mixed vegetables which we couldn’t finish as we were so full! We also chose a garlic sauce & a peppercorn sauce as a side order & both were so tasty & plentiful. For our deserts my partner chose the apple pie which he enjoyed very much & I chose a selection of ice creams. All this was washed down with a bottle of pinot Grigio & bill was just under £74! There is a lovely atmosphere in this restaurant & we are so glad we visited. It is run by a lovely family who are very friendly. They kindly ordered us a taxi at end of night back to our hotel. If we lived nearby we would be regular visitors! Give this restaurant a try & you will not be disappointed!

Excellent value steak restaurant just off the main street. Eating off the Dinner set menu option, both the Garlic mushrooms and Premium prawn cocktail starters were very good. Sirloin steaks cooked perfectly.

Fabulous find, waitress great, friendly and very efficient. Too much food, and roast potatoes were underdone almost inedible and veg over done. Too many tomatoes on prawn cocktail, I would have like them cut up.plenty of prawns but some prawns warm others cold...steak was rare, despite asking medium fortunately not an issue I will eat mooing...salmon 2 large fillets definable good value for money.

Food was lovely as always… but the older waitress (possibly the owner) is the rudest person we’ve ever met, arrogant and unprofessional. We’ve been going there years, same disgusting attitude every time, nearly took it personal at one point, till I realised she’s like it with most people.

I went there for my friend's birthday dinner. It was my first time at this restaurant. I had Old English, fillet steak stuffed with Stilton cheese, cooked to perfection and the sauce was so tasty. I loved garlick roast potatoes and vegetables, especially red cabbage. I couldn't resist and ordered their apple pie with custard and I am definitely having it again. Lovely staff ! Just fab all round can't wait to go again and try Surf and Turf my friend had, I tried king prawn which was massive and it was the best ever. Thank you for this amazing experience! See you soon.

The food was ok, the vegetables were a little odd to be honest and was almost a through back to the 80's. I had the sea bass and it had been cooked beautifully although the potatoes tasted like they had been precooked quite a while ago and then reheated. Partners steak he said was very good, it came with some very white and depressing looking chips. However, above it all was the table. We had to ask for it to be cleaned because I was sticking to it. They cleaned it and it was so sticky I had to lay my napkins on the table to cover the surface. The cutlery was not great either. PLUS the table wobbled. Probably not go back.

Squeezed in between buildings at the top of some steps near the harbour is this ‘legend’ of a restaurant. The food is really good with portions of vegetables which could easily go between two. We saw several untouched veg bowls go back to the kitchen - just simply too much. Prices are so much cheaper than other establishments nearby and the service is friendly and casual. Bottles of wine are unbelievably cheap - around £20 each but I would rather pay more for a better quality wine to complement the great food. They don’t do cocktails and the bar selection isn’t wonderful but if you’re going more for the food then this is your place.

We had the set meal . Both had the steak and both cooked to perfection. I also opted for peppercorn sauce of which there was plenty not just a shot glass full. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at this restaurant. We will return .

Heard all good things, been meaning to try the place for years, when i lived in Torquay, now since moved to newton, finally tried it, and so glad we did, absolutely beautiful, steaks melt in ur mouth, the flavours are also amazing! We went to Legends at Steps for a celebration meal, what can I say the food and service were excellent, we couldn’t fault our meal whatsoever, I had the 12oz fillet with black bean sauce, wow wow wow the flavours were superb sweet, sour, hint of garlic with a slight kick of chilli and black beans, to me the chef was flawless on this, well done chef!!! nice accompaniment of vegetables, I didn’t have a dessert but the rest did and said they were really enjoyable. Front of house were very knowledgeable, we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and we will definitely be back, keep up the fantastic work 😀

First time here and absolutely amazed by the quality of the food, the price and the service. I went for king prawns with garlic butter which was a great size and so tasty. The old English fillet steak was phenomenal! Cooked to perfection, the chef definitely knows what he is doing! The food, drink and atmosphere was great and we will back soon! Little ,quite and cute spot in Torquay twon center. With the best steaks and the best service. Professional but with a touch of familiarity.

Steps has always been one of the first restaurants on our list when visiting Torquay so on Saturday we visited again. The first thing that hit us was the generally poor level of cleanliness, something not seen before. Dirty sticky table, dirty cutlery, very dirty drinking glasses, table mats that had seen better days & the floors were so sticky. Thankfully the food was of a reasonable standard but after many visits this will be our last!

Very disappointed! Was our Anniversary so decided to treat ourselves! Had prawn cocktail which was good! No conversation from waitress or waiter! Too busy chatting to people they knew in the other room! My husband ordered a 16 oz Sirloin which was expensive very undercooked and half was very fatty! Told the waitress and she said oh sorry nothing was done about it! Ordered no tomato on my husbands but came with tomato! Ordered no onions with my salad but came with onions! Still No apology and no conversation! Didn’t want to make a fuss as it was our Anniversary! Bill was £85 with one drink each ! Really upset!

Beautiful place,cosy, great atmosphere, super service, tender steak and a place we will definitely go to again when we come back to this area . Reasonable prices too. Drinks good. It's what I would call a secret little place up stairs out of the way ,but people obviously know about it because it was full. We were lucky to get in.

I have been very disappointed which has ruined my memories of this restaurant. The steak was fatty & not cooked to the medium I had asked for ( blood coming out of it ) Even the dessert just did not come up to the same standard as before. Disappointed

Had my 60th birthday here {group of 6}, The food was absolutely fantastic all the steaks were cooked to perfection as were all the other meals , large portions and delicious vegetable's all served by lovely staff, we had a fantastic evening and would highly recommend. we will defiantly return

We come to Torquay every year for our anniversary and for the last 6-7 years we have had a meal here and have never been disappointed. The food is amazing and we look forward to it every year.

Just the BEST steaks in the bay. Always have the 'Old English ' it's just incredible. A good addition would be to sell an alcohol free larger as I don't drink coke etc so had to have sparling water. Absolutely amazing! I have lived here for 6yrs and have never been to Legends before. We were "walk ins" and were given a table straight away. Great place. I had the whitebait starter which was a really good sized portion. I then had the surf and turf. The steak was cooked to perfection and the prawns were lovely and juicy again cooked to perfection. The garlic sauce on the prawns was sooo tasty, enough to mop up with my chips too. The sauté potatoes chips and vegetables were again all cooked good also there was plenty of them. Both meals were absolutely stunning. The waitress was helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Definitely going back again.
