Lee Tandoori in Gosport

This place never fails me to serve up a great Indian meal, pity i can only get here once a year as i live in France. Nice firey jalfrazi for me. As prevoiusly said, retro al la 1970's 80's, here's to next year.

I have used this restaurant for many years for both takeaways and sit down meals and it never disappoints. Staff are always welcoming and the food is fresh, tasty and well presented. Most recent visit was with family for a sit down meals and all commented how lovely the food was, some saying it was the best Indian food they had tasted. Decor is retro which adds to it's charm. Would definitely recommend.

Terrible service, waiters were so rude, asked where the toilets and got blanked and asked why I wanted to use the toilet!

Terrible service and were very rude when asked if we could use the toilets. We all good food poisoning and toilets weren’t up to standards at all. I wouldn’t bother wasting your money on this establishment, no surprise it’s always empty

Ordered for tandoori roti, very dry hard to eat. ( rock solid ) 🤯🤢Think they don’t know the difference between roti and papad 🫣 . 2nd time of worst food , will never order from same . Irony is most Bangladeshi cuisine for customers identify as Indian restaurants which is a shame.. grow u

Hi guys I've walked past this place on jaunts to Lee on Solent for 15 years and formsome reason never took the plunge until recently. So glad we did!!!! Stepping into this place it feels unapologetically retro. It almost feels like you've stepped into a curry house from 1987....this is not a bad thing in my opinion and adds to the experience. 8pm on a mid-month Monday is usually graveyard stuff for restaurants, so it said alot that it was packed but they still found us a table. The atmosphere is great and the staff SUPER friendly!!! My staple (which I ordered) in an Indian is usually Mixed kebab: standard but couldn't fault it. Meat was juicy and bharji not greasy King Prawn Butterfly: big, but slightly dry Lamb bhuna: meat was good, and though not the thickest and richest of sauces was still enjoyable Brinjal Bharji: no complaints Mushroom rice: no complaints Keema naan: again no complaints My wife had the Chilli Chicken Massalla (which was hotter than advertised, however the chicken was stunningly cooked) In keeping with the retro feel was the retro price, which I thought was amazing and to be fair is cheaper than alot of takeaways. Was it the best curry I've ever had....no!!!! however the superb staff never rushed us, were fantastically friendly and for that alone I'd come back, let alone the price Poppadom tray (4 poppadoms) 2 starters 2 curries 1 rice 1 veggie side 1 naan 3 beers 3 large glasses of Merlot Cost under £75 and they didn't even ask for a tip or imply it!!! If your in Lee on Solent and fancy a good meal, at a great price, with great staff, go for it!!!

Excellent meal tonight 😍 the best curry I have had yet in the area. Staff very attentive. They deserve to do well. Only criticism was no background music whilst dining. We will be regular customers

Come and visited with a few of my family for my birthday. The Food is superb, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating. And we had a lovely evening. Very refreshing to go to a nice Indian restaurant🥰

Poor service, food took over an hour. Food was ok but small portions. I wouldn't rush back.

This evening was the first time myself and my partner have been to this restaurant! Food was amazing and great portion sizes aswell! Despite the long wait for the food as we did not mind waiting for our food, it brought up the appetite more and for the poppadoms/starters to go down nicely with not having our mains straight after! There was no rushing on eating your food or leaving the restaurant. The waiters were all very polite, all in all a fantastic experience and will definitely be returning!

Went to Lee Tandoori last month for a friend's birthday. While the food was decent (especially for some of us), the long wait put a damper on the experience. We waited about an hour for our meals, and even then, only half of our group of 10 found their food enjoyable. Having fond memories of this place from the 90s, it was a bit disappointing. Additionally, our waiter wasn't very accommodating when we politely inquired about going off-menu. Probably stick to other restaurants in the future.

Waited over an hour for food to come out - the waiter was very helpful, but because we complained, they brought our food out before people that had ordered before us. We had 3 meat dishes, that all tasted very nice, however, the portion sizes weren’t great and there wasn’t much meat.

Usually when we have been here, and we’ve been a few times everything is okay. We went tonight and our table was booked for 6:30pm. Admittedly it was very busy with 3 quite big parties but we waited an hour and a half for our food. People were starting to walk out because they were fed up with waiting. Staff were telling people there food would be 5 more minutes but was taking a lot longer. There were no apologies for the wait or explanations and no courtesy discounts for the wait. Obviously it was busier than they had expected but it’s a bank holiday so prepare yourselves for a long wait as they obviously didn’t have enough staff to cope with the demand. Even though my chicken tikka was slightly burnt and dry it was still very nice as was the other food we had ordered. Poor service but good food.

Goto takeaway through lockdown...excellent food at a reasonable price... And now 2yrs on another great meal, this time in the restaurant with a group reunion of ex work colleagues. Fabulous food...the Naga Lamb is not for the faint hearted but delicious. Others had Mint Chicken, Veg thali, and a host of other dishes...everyone enjoyed their food and we will be back!

Sorry to say this visit was not up too scratch at all my tandoori chicken was dry and not very appealing most of it went back on the plate. School report would read could do a whole lot better

Old established restaurant. At this moment it has the best staff they've had in years. Friendly and attentive service. Good food and drink at reasonable prices.

Hoping this local place will improve, sadly not, dirty glasses, dirty toilets, food warm, and if you don't mind people who are F*N and blinding next to you then you'll be ok.

A group of 6 of us all having different main courses after popadums and chutneys. All meals were well received, even after a longish wait. Not really a problem as it tends to mean the dishes are fresh. Waiting staff very attentive. Average prices. Would return.

I read a review on Google which stated that this restaurant only had a level 1 hygiene rating. I panicked, having just finished my meal there, and did my own research- just want to inform anyone reading this that the restaurant does not have a level 1 hygiene rating, it has a level 4/5, which is good enough for me! Food was pretty good and staff were friendly enough, although they didn’t seem too happy about us bringing the buggy into the restaurant.

A lot of these reviews on here are from a person visiting just once, however, I'm a local and I've been going to the Lee Tandoori for the past 20 years. I can't recommend them highly enough. The food, the service and the atmosphere at the restaurant has always been excellent. The same people have owned it for a long while and have always been so kind and accommodating.

Not good service as we went today just for main course and drinks , rest of other people get papadom as complimentary but we didn’t get any moreover I have to ask for water but two ladies get everything on table even they come after us . Plao rice was just normal rice , lamb curry taste like nothing . Only Tarka daal was good . Overall I would not recommend. Bad service and food

Slightly unprepossessing from outside and a slightly odd layout internally, with what looked like a “sub room.” Ordering water is an experience, a small bottle is sensibly sized and a large one is massive. Chicken tikka starters were average plus but the main course version was really substantial. Draft Cobra super cold but ok. The star for me was the mint chicken tikka which I had not eaten before but which had a very flavoursome sauce. Slightly small portion however. Prawn biryani good. The head waiter does look like he has just woken up but the service was ok. Mains took a little while but all were well cooked, which is fine.

Seven of us visited the lee tandoori on Tuesday 25th July 2023. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and very friendly. We had a great time and will definitely go back again. Thanks for a terrific evening

Sorry I had to walk out. So poor. Worse than a witherspoon curry. So poor. Tasted of pure salt. I would never go here again. Chips came out cold and very late. The lady who served us was very nice and to be be fair they did not charge us but to be honest it was the worse curry I have ever tasted.

Visited here recently with my family for a meal. The food is authentic Indian and reminded me of my trip back in India. Had a long chat with the manager who is a very lovely man and I wish him the very best. The staff all went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant experience. And also treated myself to a cheeky beer to go with my lovely chicken madras. Will definitely be back soon. Thanks Lee Tandoori

Used to enjoy a takeaway from here, and the staff were always friendly, but after noticing their food hygiene rating had dropped to ONE, I decided to read the report on the Food Standards Agency website & will sadly not be eating from here again !! 🤢🤢

I normal enjoy my meal here but I went on Monday 22/01/23and unfortunately both curry’s we order were not good the rice had a funny taste to it. I was unable to eat the curry which was only a chicken Marsala. I said the curry did not taste nice I was told I tell the chef. No replacement or I cook another one was offered. Sorry but I think I will be giving you a miss for a while.

Excellent food. Top 5 Madras of all time. Food fresh and hot. Great unobtrusive polite service. Great value for money with a complimtary drink. Highly recommended.

We are longstanding customers of Lee Tandoori. Service and food are good. The oblique sea views and, at the right time of year, sunsets, are a bonus. Parking free after 7pm.

I have had better Indian cuisine. Taste of the food was okish! We had ordered Vegetarian noodles for the kids and it was not what we expected and even the kids refused to eat it.

Terrible food but the staff were polite. Will not recommend their food to Asians. Food prices are unacceptable according to the quality and quantity of food.

Gone down hill massively ! My family and I were regulars there for years up until recently. There must have been a change of hands as not only the food has been made with little effort, the customer service is terrible. The order they sent was wrong for the second time, when I called to complain they offered no apology. They don’t listen to your order. We will be going elsewhere in future

One of the staff was very rude. Probably he is the senior staff. Ppl order only what they want. We were kind of humiliated as we ordered less. We are not foodies and usually eat less. I still deserve basic respect as a customer. Other 2 guys served the food were polite. I won’t recommend, particularly if you are a non English national 🙂

Definitely the best Indian restaurant and takeaway around. Their Bangladeshi fish garlic bhuna is enough to make me squeal with utter delight.

Yummy, never a bad meal, been going here for over 30 years on and off.

This place has gone dramatically down hill. No veggie food on the menu ended up with a tasteless veggie passanda, luke warm Bombay potatoes and onion bhajis that had been reheated. The waiter was miserable as was the whole experience. Such a shame as it used to be great.

This is our local eat-in indian restaurant. The staff are friendly and the food is good. Decor a little tired but it's a nice place and I would recommend it.

First time I have used Lee Tandoori and I wasn't disappointed . I asked for both dishes to be mild. They were cooked to perfection I will definitely be using them again.

Although we had booked this place we were still treated with little respect and had to wait for 2 hours before getting our meal. This did give us time to chat and catch up but apart from the original poppadoms we ordered, there was no other conversation. We did ask and was told 'on it's way', many times. When the food arrived, it was lovely but by that time many were 'past hungry' so I felt disappointed and angry. Sort it out guys. If you can't cater for large crowds, 10, then don't accept them. As an after thought, we were offered plenty of free Baileys but many were driving so pointless. 😏

What has happened to this place??? Been going here for years but it seems to have changed hands. Visited on Wednesday 25th August. Waited an hour and a half for just main meals with only five other tables In. Disgusting food frozen pre cooked chicken in a sauce, over cooked dry mixed grill. They seem more focused on takeaways rather than people in the restaurant other tables also not happy with the wait times and food, most left their food paid and left. No care or passion shown from anyone serving they have given up. Will never return now after giving it a go for third time now since it’s changed hands. Avoid avoid

We had a takeaway from here and the quality of the chicken was very poor. It didn't look like chicken or taste like it and had hard grissle lumps through every piece. Very disappointed with the meal

I was in the toilet and I saw one of the staff walk out without washing his hands, I informed the manager and he said he didn't care and they'll use the toilet when they want. Pretty poor response and disgusting when serving food and especially during COVID.

A nice restaurant pleasent staff

Throughly disappointed! Me and my wife used to love the food and service. At Lee tandoori. However this has changed for the worse over the last couple of years. When we ordered delivery I got attitude on the phone for wanting to pay by card. Then, when the food turned up it had no flavour at all. The food was so bad my wife couldn’t eat hers. Such a shame to see what was once a fantastic place to eat go the way it has.

I am pretty sad to be writing a bad review but I'm not sure what's happened to this place. 2 years ago we had a lovely meal there but every time since it seems to have given up. I took my bf for his birthday with half 6 booking. Arrived, our table wasn't ready. Given drinks and poppadoms while ordered main course, all standard. So, around 645 we chatted and enjoyed our evening till 815 when after various attempts to ask staff where our food we left. We were certainly not the only ones either. The staff really didn't seem to care at all that all of these people sat at tables with no food and no drinks while takeaway food seemed to be going out as normal.I'm all for supporting local businesses but it was my boyfriends birthday and I was so gutted for him! Even when we left the staff didn't seem that interested in keeping us. Waived the cost of the drinks and that was it.We went home and got a takeaway from our local.

Went here for an anniversary meal. Arrived at 7.30. Drinks order took at 7.50. Food order took at 8pm. Left then for 45 minutes with nothing. Food then arrived cold and unappealing. The waiting staff seemed more interested in the big table that were having a birthday party. They had drinks galore and service with a smile. We however were just left with a bitter taste in ours mouths. We will not return.

Lovely food BUT tonight customers left because we were waiting so long for service. Takeaways/deliveries were flying out the door but the customer's in the restaurant were waiting hours to be served. Booking was at 7pm we left after 10 pm. Not good service I'm afraid :(.

Went here recently with a group of friends and I would never go back. The staff were incredibly rude. My food took over 2 hours to come to the table & when it eventually turned up it was cold, tasteless & dry. Cutlery was dirty, literally had dried curry stuck to the back of it, the waiter took it away without an apology and didn't bring me another fork to use after. Many people were walking out of the restaurant as they were having similar problems.

We booked a table for 7pm with a 2hour time slot, we weren’t brought drinks for 35 minutes from arriving. Our starters came out just after an hour, tasteless and cold, we waited until just after 9pm and decided to tell them to cancel our food after waiting over 2 hours. Guy serving was very rude about it, we explained 5/6 tables that were seated after our we dealt with first. Swerve if you want an enjoyable meal
