I haven't been yet for wine and dine, but we bought bread and cheese quite a few times. The owner is lovely and the cheese is excellent, varieties you would have a hard time finding anywhere else in the area. Cured meats also recommended.

The service was excellent! We got great recommendations on wine and food pairing which was explained with a lot of passion. The cheeses and chutneys went together so well we wanted to get them home. The interior is very simple yet atmospheric. Definitely worth visiting this part of the city.

I visited on a Sunday evening, about an hour before closing. Finding a nice little wine bar open on a Sunday evening was awesome! I had a really nice experience. The establishment was quiet; I was able to sit at the bar and have a relaxing experience as a solo traveler. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Lovely selection of wines by the glass across the sparking, white, red, and orange categories, with good descriptions of the wines on the menu and a knowledgeable bartender, too. Both wines I tried were outstanding. Note that it’s a limited food menu; there were a couple of hot specials, but the rest of the menu focused on cured meats and cheeses. Worry not, there was plenty of deliciousness to be had! I really enjoyed that the meats and cheeses went beyond some of the typical selections. My culatello (a nice change from prosciutto) and local cheese were delightful, served with delicious bread. A lovely stop. Its neighborhood, Bermondsey, has a lot of cool local restaurants and is worth wandering through before or after your meal/wine at Lechevalier.

We popped in to this wine bar for a quick glass of wine and ended up having four! Natalie was very knowledgeable and friendly. She gave us some excellent recommendations! We chatted to Christophe who was very interesting.

Lovely charcuterie and wine bar. We went with my 2 year old earlier when it was a little emptier so we could get a seat and table and fit a pram in. Choice of meat cheese and wine was amazing. We all loved the combinations of cheese and chutney/relish accompaniments. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable.

This place is always perfect. My boyfriend and I live close by and it has become a favorite. The staff are lovely and knowledgeable, serving delicious wine and charcuterie - the cost to quality ratio is a rarity in this city and we are oh so grateful each time we visit!!

An absolute gem hidden a stone’s throw from the bustling Bermondsey Street. If you’re looking for some delicious wine, cheese, charcuterie and fresh bread for a reasonable price, this is the place for you! My girlfriend and I visited recently and had a glass of wine, fresh bread, one ham and three cheeses recommended by the owner. Afterwards, we tried a dessert wine which topped off a great experience. In total with service fee, we paid £80 which I didn’t think was too bad!

Searching around for a wine bar serving lighter options we stumbled upon Lechevalier. Fresh off the plane as weary travellers we found the good old French hospitality nothing but welcoming and relaxing. Great knowledgeable staff paired with stunning food and wine. We just wish this place was around the corner from us!

I have now visited a number of times over the years and wanted to update this to reflect the consistently excellent experience I've had with Christophe and his team. Every visit has been a pleasure, whether at peak business or whiling away a quiet afternoon chatting with whoever is behind the bar. This is a standout venue for exploring novel expressions of wines backed up by an unbeatable selection of cured meats and cheeses. The wine range is well selected and diverse, reflecting the owner's interests and passions. There is an emphasis on unconventional takes with a broad range of biodynamic and natural wines. This includes some excellent examples of less commonly seen wines such as malavasia and furmint, as well as very interesting approaches to standards. While the wine list is full of interesting and new concepts I have never felt lost as the staff are friendly and approachable. I have never had a difficult time finding a drink I would enjoy. In conclusion: if you like wine and charcuterie, a must visit.

We let the waiters order for us after having a chat about what we liked. They met our expectations perfectly. 2 cheeses and 2 meats, all amazing. Particularly the Bonnet meat and Munster cheese paired with a bottle of Herbes Folles white wine. Knowing nothing about the place, we stopped in at LeChavalier for a pre-dinner drink. We wanted to find something away from the tourist-dominated establishments near the Tower Bridge. What a fortunate find! If you are interested in a place where you can try different types of wines that you will not find in a restaurant or an off-premise (package) store, this is the place. It’s intimate, bordering on tiny, and the wine list is as eclectic as I have ever seen. The cool part is every wine is hand-selected by the owner, Christophe, and he is engaging as he describes the wines and why he chose it. Christophe was there to greet us when we walked in - it was early for the dinner crowd, so we were the only ones there. He stopped what he was doing and sat with us for what turned out to be an amazing, sometimes wandering discussion about wine, food, and culture. Next time I travel to London I will plan to visit there again and stay for some food (looks amazing!) and tasting things I don’t get to elsewhere.

I was stressed and angry, in search of a place for a short rest in a day of madness. I happened to pass by Lechevalier on my way and was intrigued. I walked in a really nice place, with fine products and very kind people who gave me a welcome moment of relaxation around a glass of tasteful wine and a delicious plate of culatello. A discovery beautiful as unexpected, I’ll come again when I can ! Continuez comme ça patron !

Fantastic little bar. We got a selection of cheese and cured meats accompanied by delicious sourdough bread which Christophe packed very nicely to take home as we couldn’t finish all. Very good selection of wines and the most delicious tartiflette I have ever had- made in front of you.

Had a lovely girls night here, Laetitia’s recommendations on the wines were spot on and you can’t find this quality of products and level of service often in the city. The ambiance of the bar was perfect, we were impressed with the charcuterie selection and would go back time and time again.

I contacted Christophe about hosting a private wine tasting for a group of 10 of us and he couldn't have been more obliging! He took us on an entertaining and informative journey through different wine production methods whilst allowing us to sample 4 wines and 3 cheeses. To have the place to ourselves make it extra special and everyone afterwards told me that they really enjoyed themselves. Of course, as a wine bar, this spot is a gem. But if you are looking for a place to have an intimate, special event then I can't recommend Christophe and Lechevalier enough! I cannot wait to return.

Just returned home from Lechevalier and must say it was incredible. Those who worked there were very helpful and knowledgeable; they passionately assisted my partner and in deciding what to order. The food was absolutely delicious (best brie I've had in my life). Very good value for money given the quality of their food, and you can really tell that it's an independent business run by someone who cares about the details. Will definitely be back! Merci!

My local for quality cheese and wine. Lots of natural wines and Christophe is always happy to advise. You can take away or stay and have a drink with some snacks at the intimate cute bar. The wine tasting events that happen sometimes are a really fun way to meet new people and sample interesting wines.

I cannot say enough great things about Lechevalier. I first moved to the area just before the pandemic and -- as I frequently share -- went into this wine shop to buy bread then left about 30 minutes later with delicious bread, even more delicious wine, new knowledge and new friends. Christophe and his staff are fantastic. I've been back many times and have consistently received warm service, knowledgeable descriptions of literally anything in their shop (which varies substantially, sometimes even day to day!) and a deliciously fun experience. I highly recommend this bar and shop for anything from dinner party preparations to gatherings with friends, dates or even to hang out on your own. Very convenient to London Bridge, Borough and Bermondsey Street -- definitely not one to miss :)

Fantastic place to have nice wines and pair it with cheese and charcuterie. Staff is great, very nice vibe and super friendly. They truly know what they sell so if like me you don't know what you are looking for that time trust them with their recommendations. They also allowed us to try so orange wines which was new for us and some others that they had by the glass as well.

Terrible experience! I was placed on an uncomfortable child-like wooden table and miniature chair, literally 10cm away, from a smelly toilet, that customers were using,every two or three minutes, whilst there were many empty tables! Definitely, one of my worst ‘restaurant’ experiences! Don’t recommend to anybody the appropriately named, ‘Le Chevalier’ - Horse Stables!

This has been our local wine shop for some time and we love it here. Christophe and his team are fantastic, really care about the wine they are selling and you can sense the passion in every visit. We love this place both as a wine store and as a bar. The food combinations provided when you come here for drinks are always amazing and very different. The service is excellent and I thoroughly enjoy having long conversations about the wines for sale with Christophe himself. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Big props to the team at Chevalier for their impeccable hospitality this evening. After the longest day I was greeted with the warmest welcome, a stellar recommendation and genuinely on point service. The ever changing natural wine list keeps things interesting - Bordeaux du Paysan is standout right now. This little temple to wine, cheese and charcuterie is a real asset to the neighbourhood.

Good afternoon, I came into the shop on Saturday afternoon, and I asked for a sulphite free red wine because I have a strong allergy and I have to be really careful with it (the allergy reaction is anaphylaxis shock that could bring me to die rapidly), I would like to say a really big thanks to the manager that he served me really kindly and helpfully, I would like to inform you that the wine didn't create any problem. You can suggest for everyone coming inside and they ask you for sulphite free wine. Thank you very much to help me find a wine to drink. Every time is a really stressful mission to find it. Every time we come here the service is incredible and every member of staff goes above and beyond. There is no pretence whatsoever and we are always made to feel welcome. To top it off I learn something new on each visit. Thoughtful and passionate buying produces a diverse and exciting wine list, accompanied by great cheese and charcuterie. I fear the secret is already out, and hope I can still get a table in the future!

Used to like this place but will never go back because of the owner. He is one of the most rude and disrespectful shop owner I’ve encountered, ever. I went in to buy something and feel good, but actually left feeling bad and hurt because of him. I don't recommend.

Booked a table for Thu 2 Dec. Spent an hour getting there on the tube to find that they had closed with a "see you tomorrow" note taped to the shutter. OK it's a small business and things happens but you would have thought they would have taken the 5 mins or so to email/text customers who had reservations for that night but obviously not. Won't be returning.

A must! Visited Lechevalier regularly, each time I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the chat with the people who work there. Fantastic conversations, everyone shares their passion about quality and care about what they serve. Has a deli part of the store and a eat in section. It's one of those wonderful places you will eat at the bar and then take some extra home from the deli. Great service, delicious food and the wine complements. A must try! Just remember, pop by with 60 to 90 mins free, relax, enjoy. Such places are rare in London. Highly, highly recommend.
